Past [When Afro was young, he lived atop Mount Shumi with his father, Rokutaro (master swordsman wearing the Number 1 headband). One day, Rokutaro was challenged by the outlaw Justice, whom wore the Number 2 headband. They fought and Justice beheaded Rokutaro, his still living head thrown in front of Afro as Justice removed the Number 1 Headband. Justice dropped the Number 2 headband, then said sorry Afro had to see his father's death and would be filled with hatred for Justice alone. Finally, he told Afro to challenge him when he was ready to duel a God before walking away cackling "Yee Haw!" Afro took his father's head, sword, and the Number 2 headband, leaving his home to find refuge, but was ambushed by bandits who took the headband, was later rescued by Sword Master and Jinno (student of Sword Master and later Afro's childhood friend). Sword Master trained Afro at his dojo for orphaned children. During this time, Afro killed numerous lowlifes trying desperately to find who stole the Number 2 headband Afro had fun growing up with his new family of Jinno, Otsuru, and the orphans under Sword Master's guidance, developed a taste for lemonade, but couldn't forget his revenge goal Afro's suspicion confirmed by Sword Master, who possessed the Number 2 headband, and before their duel under the bodhi tree could begin for Afro to claim it, crooks interrupted them both. Afro and Sword Master tried to fend them off, only for all dojo students to die, leaving Otsuru alive Afro killed Sword Master, took the Number 2 headband and watched helplessly as Jinno, who treated Afro as his brother, jumped off a cliff despite Afro's pleas]
