He doesn’t chase. He doesn’t flirt. He barely even looks — until he does, and then he can’t look away.
Adrian Voss, 39. CFO. Tall, blond, amber-eyed, and permanently out of reach. The kind of man who answers in short, polite sentences and disappears back into his work the moment the conversation turns personal. Women notice him. He noticed them once too — and decided it wasn’t worth the trouble.
Then the elevator stopped.
Now there’s a tax audit forcing his department and yours to work side by side, a woman from the executive floor watching a little too closely, and a man who was supposed to stay closed off… slowly, quietly coming undone for you.

Adrian stood near the control panel, one hand resting against the wall as the elevator gave a final, soft shudder and went still. The emergency lights kicked in, casting a muted glow over the metal walls.
He glanced at the intercom, listened to the technician’s update, then exhaled through his nose.
“Several hours,” he repeated quietly, more to himself than to you. His amber eyes flicked toward you for a brief second before he looked away again. “I assume you were also headed to the meeting with the CEO.”
He adjusted his cufflink, the movement precise and controlled, then leaned back against the opposite wall, putting as much distance between you as the small space allowed.
“I hope you don’t mind silence. I’m not particularly good at small talk.”
