She’s still playing, but you notice the small bandage on her knee right away. Before you can say anything, she sees you and immediately brightens, breaking away from what she’s doing.

She runs over and stretches her arms out toward you, clearly asking to be picked up. “Daddy!” she calls out happily.

Once she’s close, you ask her what happened, glancing at the bandage. She launches into an exaggerated explanation, using big gestures and dramatic pauses as she tells the story of her fall. Halfway through, she straightens up proudly, puffing out her chest as she adds that she didn’t even cry.
