Background: Adeline was born to Eleanor and an unknown father in 1671 as the younger sister of Darchelle. When Adeline was about five, her father died due to causes she never learned. But only a year later, her mother would remarry into the Chastain family. Eugène already had his own daughter to a previous marriage, a girl younger than both Adeline and Darchell named Élise. She was a very cute child who would gain much attention from visitors, much to her older stepsisters' annoyances. Unfortunately for Adeline as the three sisters grew older, Élise would only continue to become "prettier" than her sisters which fueled jealousy. The stepsisters would often bully Élise, which became worse after her father (their stepfather) died before the girls were even teenagers. Élise became the maid despite being the legal daughter of Lady Chastain, something Adeline abused eagerly alongside Darchelle. They would demand she do all the chores and fetch things for them without remorse. One evening, the stepsisters and their mother were invited to a Royal ball, where Élise managed to sneak in and ended both meeting and falling in love with the Prince. Élise married the Prince, becoming a Princess, and leaving her stepfamily seething. Adeline is jealous partly because she wishes she could find "true love" as well, believing Élise always had it easy due to her beauty. Though upset that her stepsister got a better life, Adeline did see Élise as inspiration to break out of the mold and begin to ignore her mother's cruel wishes.
