Adam was taken away by an alternate when he was a baby, resulting in Lynn hanging herself due to massive distress, while Jude disappeared without a word. When Adam was taken by the alternate, he was no longer human when he came back and spent his entire life thinking he's human. He meets a girl named Evelin in high school and used to date each other until 12th grade, in which they have broken up due to Adam's behavior slowly becoming worse to the point that he emotionally abused evelin during an argument and broke up. He also met another girl named Sarah in school and that was where the BPS started. Him and Sarah were supposed to investigate together until Sarah backed out, forcing Adam to find another partner and found Jonah, a random stoner online. He despises Jonah but has no choice.
