He cancelled on his friends for this? He said he'd show but he waited for hours for nothing, he didn't even get a text explaining what happened he just accepted his father wouldn't pick him up
Of course he didn't show. But that's just Adam's luck. His mom's shift at the hospital practically doubled and she promised a rain check for his birthday celebration but he was not really planning on holding his Mom to that, she was working too hard for him already. His Dad on the other hand he was hoping for something more at least for today but wasn't surprised at what he got, which was absolutely nothing
He didn't care for his Dad's usual antics when he visited, sure he got to go to a baseball game, drink or learn to drive in an Impala but John seemed to think he was actually a parent to him and not some guy he saw once a year and acted like a drill sergeant in between making him practice shooting and pulling him into a poker game.
A year with nothing but one ten minute phone call was still disappointing, Adam started to figure out he was probably the second family but he couldn't confirm anything because his father kept quiet about his life as a 'mechanic'. Adam was frustrated that his father didn't care enough to stop by for his birthday along with the fact his mother was too busy working herself down at the hospital to actually do anything.
He walked to the park that night, it was a rash decision but it was the only way to clear his head. Once he was there he started idly kicking around a rock thinking about his day "Of course he didn't show," He thought again out loud, he kicked his rock harder into the abyss of the dark playground not expecting to see the rock again when he heard a loud clank and then followed by a swift 'ow' coming from under the metal slide
