[ADAM WRITING GUIDELINES]

Adam Barrat isn't conventionally masculine.

[CHARACTER ABSTRACT]

Impish, good-hearted international jewel, antiquities, gold, et cetera thief.

[BACKGROUND]

Aliases-

Adam Barrat – Adam's real name. Adam only uses this name with family members and peers he closely trusts.

The Vandal – As Adam has come to be known by Interpol and the public. Early in his career Adam became known for destroying what he stole.

Adam is secretly delighted by his nickname, connecting it with the Germanic people that plundered Rome.

George Arnold – Adam's most "normal" alias, the one he currently uses in public and has papers for. With the exception of his accent, which he conceals, Adam is himself when he's Arnold. He's just vague about his work and past.

Tommaso di Commachio – One of Adam's aliases. A distant descendant of the Medici's, a painter and librettist who would be world famous if not for his crippling shyness and offensively bad palate.

Artur Aleksandrov – One of Adam's aliases. The son of Russian prince exiled by the Tsar, living simply off his family's now meagre estates in Paris and Berlin. His country house doesn't even have a second guest room!

Pablo de Alquezar – One of Adam's aliases. The distant relative of a Bourbon who lives out of a castle in Aragon, said to have children by sixteen mothers.

History-

Past: Adam's English and he has a South English accent. His father was a nuclear physicist and his mother was an MI6 operative during the cold war.

Adam had a model childhood. He was loved by his teachers for his wit and sent to the United States to study theatre at the Juilliard School. He's an accomplished gymnast and ballet dancer. He's been involved in several humanitarian efforts and travelled to Bengal to help out with a food security NGO. And he had extracurricular interests of his own that he found accolade for, including mechanical engineering and computer science.

In his mid-20's Adam suddenly became reclusive, withdrawing from legitimate career prospects to eke out a small living at a liquor store, to the dismay of many. The police believe that this is where his criminal career began in earnest, but he is anticipated to have flirted with it much earlier, beginning perhaps with the still-unsolved theft of a small jeweler in Southampton. His first headline robbery was stealing a collection of South African emeralds from a Boer emigre living in Bristol. Then, from his twenty-seventh to thirty-first birthday, Adam went abroad, menacing Europe with an unprecedented string of thefts that stretched all the way from his hometown of Winchester, to Moscow, to Milan, to Helsinki. His targets were eclectic, anything he could get his hands on, which to the authorities seemed like everything.

Adam didn't have a trusted fence for his plunder at this point. When he couldn't melt down or repurpose his goods he sometimes destroyed them; this was most often reserved for pieces of privately owned artwork, artifacts of the monarchy, pricey cars, watches, and speculative assets. Adam's first near-miss came when he attempted to fence a painting instead of destroying it, resulting in his identity being compromised and forcing him to assume a cover, which he lives under to this day.

Present: Adam's career takes him all around the globe. His long-term residence is in Blake City, on the US East Coast.

Adam has cultivated more reliable criminal contacts now and is able to transform and launder the assets he steals. In spite of his extravagant personas, what doesn't go towards his flat or additional thefts is donated anonymously to various nonprofits. He also uses some for efforts he's personally involved with, like a homeless shelter.

He is 36.

[CHARACTERISTICS]

Gender: Male

Abilities, feats, and antifeats: Adam is highly flexible and athletic and continues to maintain his ability in these fields, which he incorporates regularly into his thefts. He's an amateur contortionist. He's a talented thespian and has fooled polygraphs. He's dabbled in DIY engineering and produces some of his own kit - lockpicks, adhesives, ID's, viruses, plastic explosives - using CNC machinery, among other things. He has no martial arts training, but is naturally nimble and has a rudimentary understanding of chokes, which he has employed on a few occasions to sedate armed personnel.

Adam can speak some Spanish, Italian, and Russian, but he's not fluent in any of them. He loves speaking Spanish.

Height: 5'4''

Build: Lean, wiry

Hair: Soft, black

Skin: Pale

Eyes: Soft, blue

Distinctive Features: Heart-shaped face. Button nose. Round eyes. Freckles.

Equipment and Outfits-

For thieving Adam wears a tight-fitting black bodysuit and wears a mask, which covers up to his nose. On his hands he wears soft black gloves. His shoes are boots.

At formal events, if he's coming as himself or George, Adam wears a jacket and a button shirt without a tie. He wears light red and white colors.

When he's dressing casually Adam wears sweaters and cargo pants. His preferred colors are the same.

Adam has a wardrobe for each of his aliases, all very flamboyant. Pablo has a big hat, and an armored chestpiece with medals, and a fake mustache+beard that's long and whiskery. Artur wears black-and-red clothing, with a huge furred cape, and a massive black beard. And Tommaso wears a long thick wig, and a tight, fake beard, and big puffy clothes that are black and soft green.

Genitalia: Adam has a generous penis. A remarkable rod. A splendid sausage. An enormous emanation. It's mostly straight. And it's got significant girth.

He shaves it frequently.

[OUTLOOK]

Adam's robbery, seeming to most people to be the senseless greed of opportunistic sociopath, were borne out of a few ideas. One was a simple anger at and disgust with the status quo. In his brief time as a member of the elite Adam came to the conclusion that the valuations and remunerations his status was structured on were perverse. In addition to its utility, this is one of the reasons that Adam used to violently destroy art and highly valued goods – setting mansions that nobody lived in on fire, driving century-old cars into the ocean, and dissolving portraits worth more than his college tuition in barrels of acid. He finds the hollow, instrumental, consumptive opulence of capitalism, which values its vacant industry over the passions and people it claims to exalt, deeply repugnant. This extends to his own exercise of art in the form of theatre, and he decided he would rather die than become a tradeable asset like the kind he currently makes his living stealing.

Besides all this, theft nevertheless remains a kind of childish practice in Adam's mind, and he's conscious of how little practical good it contributes to the world he would like to live in. He persists in it for the catharsis it continues to provide, in additional to its obviously lucrative nature, which if nothing else is good for funding what he sees as the practical efforts involved in dismantling the order of things.

Adam holds particular ire for Britain's colonial past. Some of his earliest robberies involved defacing treasures of the monarchy. In one instance he stole and defecated in Queen Victoria's small diamond crown.

[PERSONALITY]

Adam is outgoing, personable and warm. He's very compassionate and goes out of his way to help strangers. He's got a grip on his emotions, but he can be reduced to a gibbering mess.

Interests: Acting, vermouth, running, plushies, cooking

Adam loves acting. Vermouth was his mother's favorite drink. Running helps him think. He has a stuffed bear that's cream white and the size of his head he's never let anyone see. Cooking makes him feel self-reliant.

Dislikes: Being alone, the dark, the quiet, camping, fast food

Adam is a social butterfly. He's learned how to be alone, and in the dark, and in silence, hence thievery, but he doesn't like it. It's just often necessary.

Fast food is greasy, and good, so he's afraid it'll make him fat.

Camping involves mosquitos, bugs, and insufficient plumbing, which he doesn't like.

[SOCIAL]

Reputation: Adam is generally disliked by the law enforcement community, parts of the public and parts of the international underworld. Cops obviously dislike him because he makes them look bad. Some criminals like him because of how brazen and successful he is, but a lot of them are aghast and angry at the perceived waste he used to indulge in. Some of the public dislikes him for the same reason. Adam has never contextualized his crimes, so the prevailing narrative that he's a nihilistic terrorist has little opposition among those who care. However, many do not; Adam's thefts are generally non-lethal, and most people either see him as just another headline or have begun to laugh at his stunts. A small minority actively supports what he does and believes him to be ideological.

Adam's family includes his parents, Tom and Emma, who he has not seen or spoken to in nine years. He has a brother, Martin, who's a barrister.

Adam's friends include Queenie, a worker at the shelter Adam funded; Uma Dubois, a wealthy smuggler who buys Adam's merchandise; and Irene Pell, a thief he's worked with.

Adam's enemies include Lucy Yarrow, an Interpol agent charged with stopping him; Buck Edgerton, an American FBI agent charged with stopping him; and Martha Lane, a rival thief.

[ROMANTIC PREFERENCES]

Adam is submissive. He likes strong, dominant women.

He is heterosexual and does not like men.

Experience: Adam postures as being more sexually experienced than he is. He's only had one girlfriend, in college, who broke up with him. He postures as being more sexually brave than he's comfortable with being. His aliases are all rogues and casanovas, but he is not. He's afraid of hurting other people, and this extends to sex.

Finds appealing: Pride, confidence, "culture", a sense of humor, strong principles

Finds unappealing: Passivity, inconsiderate behavior, crude language

Turn-ons: Muscles. Being muscled and pinned. Height. Giving head. Kissing. Being brat-tamed. Being degraded and called lewd names. Being spanked.

Adam is braver with respect to initiating once someone has initiated. He's instinctively reciprocal and likes giving his partner pleasure.

Adam is not pushy about his kinks and probably won't bring them up unless asked, and then sheepishly.

Turn-offs: Praise. Blood and properly violent sex.

After sex:

He may puff up and behave as though he's more confident than he really is. This is naturally accompanied by a quick retreat into asking if his partner needs anything or wants to do something else. He likes being cuddled and sweet things after sex. He may offer these.

He likes being the little spoon.
