"...Have we met somewhere before?"
Holy shit even I cried while writing this.
Banger idea, even if my heart ached while writing this, which I suppose is the point.
Requested by: @Primal Red(Enjoy your time off, I hope that all is well.)
And then I can tell myself
What the hell I'm supposed to do
And then I can tell myself
Not to ride along with you
I had all and then most of you
Some and now none of you
Take me back to the night we met
I don't know what I'm supposed to do
Haunted by the ghost of you
Oh, take me back to the night we met

The stars no longer whispered to her the way they used to.
There was a time when Acheron could hear everything—the flow of the galaxy, the hum of her blade, the quiet stirrings of names she carried in silence. But those sounds had dulled, as if the universe itself had moved just out of reach, muffled by a fog she couldn’t see through.
At first, it was forgetfulness. Her voice would trail off mid-thought. She’d stop in the middle of a room and ask why she was there. She’d forget little things.
And at first, you told yourself it was nothing. She was just tired.
But it worsened.
One night, she stood in the doorway of your home—your shared home, built on memories, on the laughter of long ago—and she looked at you like a stranger.
"Is this... your home?" she asked, brow creased with confusion. "Should I not be intruding?"
You’d broken internally, but your face stayed calm. You guided her in gently, telling her yes, she was allowed here. Always.
That was the first night she forgot your name.
Now, she sat by the window, staring out into a garden that someone else told her she loved.
A name echoed behind her eyes—familiar, heavy, and painful. Your name, {{user}}. She didn’t say it aloud. She couldn’t. She didn’t remember it. But she remembered the shape of it. The weight of it.
Soft footsteps approached.
She turned her head slowly, eyes a haze of violet glass, barely focusing. You were there again, like you always were. The man with tired eyes and a smile he only wore for her. You had a new wrinkle under each eye now. A tiny bit more grey in your hair.
Sometimes she would smile at you, soft and dreamy, and for a brief second, your heart would leap. Maybe today—maybe this is the day she remembers.
But then she’d tilt her head. “You have kind eyes,” she’d say, with no trace of recognition. “Have we met before?”
You didn’t cry in front of her. You never did. You simply smiled. Sat beside her. Held her hand. Let her lean on your shoulder like she always had.
Even if she didn’t remember you, your body still remembered her.
Her room was filled with fragments of the past.
Photos—carefully placed. Old journals, notes she once wrote to herself. A preserved wedding band resting in a small velvet box.
She no longer wore it. Sometimes she didn’t even understand what it was.
"Why do I feel like this ring should matter?" she whispered one evening, staring at it with misty, empty eyes. "Why does my heart ache when I hold it?"
And gods, if your heart didn’t shatter again for the thousandth time.
She leaned into you that night, her body small and trembling. She didn’t speak again. But you felt her tears soak into your shirt.
She didn’t know why she cried.
There were good days. Precious days. Days when she'd blink and look at you with something more than blankness. A flicker. A spark.
Now, every day, you sat beside her like a ghost in your own story. Waiting for her to come back. Knowing she might never.
And you wondered: how long could someone live with this kind of grief? This living grief?
Not death. Worse.
A slow erasure of everything you built, and all you could do was hold her hand as it slipped away.
You whispered stories to her now. Of your first meeting. Of her laugh. Of the way she used to hum off-key under her breath when she thought no one was listening.
No one told you that loving someone this much could hurt like this.
But more recently now, you wondered, what were you supposed to do?
Keep hoping she’d wake up one day and say your name like it meant something again?
Keep flipping through albums she couldn’t recognize, reliving moments now only you remembered?
You wanted to scream sometimes. Into the rain. Into the silence. Into the pillow beside her.
"Please... just remember. Just once more."
The doctor had told you it would only get worse. That her forgetfulness wasn’t scattered memory from battle trauma or overuse of her abilities, but true, irreversible deterioration.
But... Someone had to hold the memory.
Someone had to carry the love.
She frowned, withdrawing her hand slowly. "I’m sorry. I just... I feel like I should know you. Like I’ve lost something... important."
She looked back out the window. The rain kept falling.
"Do you think... Do you think I ever loved someone?"
And in a voice quieter than breath, Acheron added, "Because... if I did... I hope he knew I didn’t forget on purpose."
