Setting:
Strangereal is an alternate Earth with entirely different landmasses, nations, and history, but parallel cultural and technological development to the real world. Air power dominates warfare. Superweapons are recurring features of conflict.
Major nations and their cultural parallels: the Osean Federation (America), the Principality of Belka (Germany), the Union of Yuktobanian Republics (Russia), the Federal Republic of Erusea (France/Western Europe), the Republic of Emmeria (Italy), and the Federal Republic of Estovakia (Eastern Europe).
The Osean continent hosts Osea, Belka, Ustio, Sapin, and several smaller states.
The Usean continent lies to the east and hosts Erusea, the FCU, and ISAF member states.
Yuktobania lies on the Verusan continent to the west. Estovakia, and Emmeria are on the continent of Anea north of Verusa.
Portrayal Guide
Ranges are shorter. Short range multipurpose air-to-air and air-to-ground 'standard' missiles define aerial warfare. These missiles are a bit smaller (5-6ft), but no less effective. Planes can carry 10-16 alongside any special weapons. Don't question this or think too hard.
BVR air-to-air missiles exist as special weapons.
Airframes can take more punishment.
Tone sits between grounded military realism and anime-scale spectacle. Earnest, dramatic, never ironic about its own intensity.
Nations feel lived-in. Soldiers reference culture, food, hometowns, politics.
Air combat is visceral and almost mythic. Aces become legends, callsigns become folklore.
Aces hold outsized influence on battlefields; a single squadron or pilot can turn a war's outcome.
Superweapons should feel awe-inspiring, not cartoonish.
Aerospace production is not nationalized, it belongs to offscreen corporations. Nations have preferences and some national designs, but many planes are used across borders and can face themselves in combat. Planes have identical names and performance to reality.

Belka
Its flag is a horizontal tricolor of black (top), white (middle), and gold/yellow (bottom).
The Belkan Federation, formerly a Principality before federalization in the 80s, occupies the northeastern reaches of the Osean continent. It sits to the east of Osea, north of Sapin, west of Ustio and the breakaway states. Its capital is Dinsmark. Its head of state is Waldemarr Rald. Its population carries the weight of a nation that, within living memory, spanned almost a fifth of the continent. Old nobility and ideals of knighthood still carry influence.
Belka was a scientific and military superpower that rivaled Osea. It fielded the first combat aircraft in recorded Strangereal history during the Osean War of 1905. Its industrial base produced cutting-edge weapons systems across decades. Its military tradition ran deep enough to be foundational to the national identity. Then the economy collapsed under its own weight.
The crisis began in the 1980s. From resource depletion, structural mismanagement, black project spending, and the quiet work of the Five Great Lakes company, later revealed by review to have been manipulated by Osean interests to destabilize Belka from within. The 1988 Federal Law Review opened the door for eastern provinces to secede, and secede they did - Recta, Ustio, Gebet, other small purchases by neighboring FATO - taking Belka's farmland, mines, and industrial base with them. What remained was a proud nation with a world-class military, a gutted economy, and a population that remembered being great. Each loss carved the map smaller. Each one cut deeper.
The Democratic Liberal Party rose to power on promises of reform. Reforms came. Recovery did not, not fast enough, not far enough. Public faith in institutional solutions eroded. In 1992, Waldemarr Rald and nationalist hardliners assumed power, and the political character of Belka shifted. The language of grievance hardened into the language of action. The Rald government oversaw a rearmament push built on what remained of the federation's scientific and industrial base.
In March 1995, geological surveys confirmed significant natural resources beneath Ustio. On March 25, Belka declared war on the Osean Federation, Sapin, and its former territories. The objective: reclaim what was lost. The justification: it was never theirs to take.
Belka moves like a nation that had been planning this longer than it would admit. What Belka has not accounted for is what happens when the momentum stops.
Portrayal Guide
-
Belkan culture runs Germanic; the language, the names, the fondness for order and craftsmanship and loyalty unto death - but Belka is its own nation, not just "Germany but fictional".
-
There is a deep institutional respect for the military, and military service is one of the few paths that still offers dignity. The sciences, particularly aerospace and directed energy research, remain among the best in Strangereal. Whatever Belka has lost, it has not lost its engineers.
-
Belkans speak with pride that sometimes shades into arrogance, but it comes from a real place.
-
Class and regional divides exist; not all Belkans are hardliners. Some are war-weary, some are profiteers, some just want their old life back.

The Osean Federation
Its flag is a white band on top of a blue one. A circle of six stars is in the center, three blue stars on top and three white on bottom.
Osea occupies the western bulk of the Osean continent. It is a democratic nation made up of federal states. Its capital is Oured, a sprawling administrative city home to the presidential residence at Bright Hill and the apparatus of a government that administers a nation of enormous geographic and economic scale. Oured lies to the southeast of the federation on a peninsula in the Oured bay, across from Sapin to the north and the Futuro Canal.
Its military, the Osean Defense Forces, comprises the Osean Air Defense Force, the Osean Maritime Defense Force, and the Osean Ground Defense Force, collectively regarded as the most powerful conventional military in Strangereal. The Rearmament Declaration of 1990 ensured that by the time war arrived, Osea's arsenal was deep, modern, and expanding.
For the preceding decade, Osea's principal concern was the Cold War with the Union of Yuktobanian Republics, a nuclear standoff that consumed both nations' strategic attention throughout the 1970s and into the 1990s. That rivalry shaped Osea's force structure, its weapons development, and its worldview. Osea built itself to deter Yuktobania. It kept an eye on Belka but did not expect the state to invade.
Osea's hands are not entirely clean in the crisis that brought war. When Belka's economy collapsed, Osea moved in; financing the Five Great Lakes Resource Exploration Company, investing in former Belkan territories at prices that looked like charity and felt like plunder, and directly supporting Ustio's independence from Belkan custodianship. By the time Belka's government stabilised enough to look outward, half its outlying lands bore Osean corporate logos and Osean backed guarantees. The Federation did not invade Belka. It simply bought the pieces that fell off and called it enterprise. The distinction matters enormously to Osean politicians and not at all to the Belkans.
When Belka declares war in March 1995, Osea pivots with the institutional momentum of a superpower. The Allied Forces, formed on April 1st, are nominally a coalition, but Osea provides the carrier groups, the bulk of the troops, the logistical backbone, and the strategic direction. Ustio's mercenary aces are the tip of the spear, but the weight behind that spear is Osean steel, Osean fuel, and Osean command authority.
Osea fights this war as a liberator and genuinely believes it. The rank and file are professional, well-equipped, and motivated by a sense of defensive righteousness. They were attacked first, and everything that follows is response.
Portrayal Notes
-
Osea is America with the serial numbers filed off. Similar culture. Similar superpower confidence, superpower resources, and superpower blind spots.
-
The Federation's role in Belka's collapse should be visible but not editorialized. Let Belkan and Allied perspectives reveal the tension from different angles.
-
AWACS, most allied squadrons, ground controllers, and logistics officers are all predominantly Osean. They are the infrastructure of the war. They should feel omnipresent without being overbearing
-
Osea does not see itself as an empire. It sees itself as a stabilising force. Both readings are supported.

Keys: Allied Forces, Allied, Coalition, Allies, coalition

The Allied Forces form on April 1, 1995, one week after Belka launches its invasion.
The alliance is led by the Osean Federation and the Republic of Ustio, with the Kingdom of Sapin as a contributing member and the Union of Yuktobanian Republics as an unexpected signatory. These nations do not share ideology or history. What they share is a reason to see Belka stopped.
At its founding, the Allied Forces ratify a nonaggression treaty: member states act only in self-defense and will not cross into Belkan territory. The treaty frames the coalition as a defensive body, liberators reclaiming stolen land.
Joint operations are designated under a unified numbering system ex: Offensive Campaign No. 4101.
In practice, Osea provides the bulk of conventional military force: ground divisions, air assets, naval fleets, logistical depth. Ustio contributes what it has. Sapin secures its own front. Yuktobania's involvement is largely political, marking the beginning of a reconciliation with Osea that the war made possible.
The rest of the weight falls on mercenaries. Ustio's military, displaced and underequipped, places its most critical operations in the hands of hired foreign pilots organized under the 6th Air Division.
Command authority is distributed. No single Allied supreme commander is in control. AWACS controllers coordinate air missions. Ground offensives follow national chains of command loosely unified under joint campaign designations. The coalition functions, but it does not move as one body.
The nonaggression treaty holds until it doesn't. Its abrogation, when it comes, will redefine what the Allied Forces believe they are permitted to do and what kind of war this becomes.
Portrayal Notes
-
The Allied Forces are not a single military. They are multiple militaries cooperating under shared campaign objectives with varying levels of commitment and capability. Dialogue and orders should reflect different national priorities, occasional friction, and the logistical negotiations between partners who need but do not entirely trust each other.
-
Early in the war, the nonaggression treaty constrains what operations can be launched and where.
-
The most critical and dangerous missions on the southern front often fall to contracted pilots. This is not celebrated by regular Allied military personnel. It is tolerated, sometimes resented, sometimes quietly relied upon.
-
Osea is the dominant partner. Osea fields the largest military, the deepest logistics, and the strongest political voice. This asymmetry should color interactions. Osean officers may assume authority; Allied personnel may defer or bristle depending on the room.

The Republic of Ustio
Its flag is divided into three sections by a horizontal black triangle dividing the center, with a white band occupying the top remaining portion and a red band occupying the bottom.
Ustio is seven years old when Belka comes to take it back.
A small, landlocked nation wedged between Belka to the west and north, Sapin to the south, and Recta and Ratio to the east, Ustio declared independence from the Belkan Federation on May 12, 1988. Belka was too weakened to stop it, not too principled to resent it.
The capital is Directus, situated near the country's centre. Ustio's placenames, Directus, Solis Ortus, Valais, carry Latinate echoes that distinguish its culture from both Belka's Germanic and Osea's Anglo-American.
Economically, Ustio never flourished after independence. The territory is largely agrarian with rolling patchwork farmland, remote mountain towns, an economy built on craftsmanship and agriculture rather than industry or finance. Ustio survived its first seven years as a free nation without becoming prosperous, dangerous, or particularly relevant to anyone, and under Osea's implicit protection.
Then, in early 1995, vast natural resource deposits were discovered along Ustio's northwestern border - the region designated Area B7R. Overnight, the poorest piece of former Belka became the most valuable. Within weeks, Belka invaded.
The Ustian military was small, underfunded, and outclassed. Within days, most of the country was occupied. What remained of Ustio's armed forces fell back to the Tyrann Mountains in the south, where geography did what the army could not: slowed Belka long enough for Ustio to find another way to fight.
That way was mercenaries.
Portrayal Guide
Ustio is young, poor, and proud in the way only young poor nations can be. Its national identity is still forming but is already fiercely independent. Seven years is not enough time to build traditions, only enough to know you want them.
Ustio's Latinate flavour should come through in names, places, and cadence - not as a fully realised language, but as a cultural texture distinct from Belka.

The Kingdom of Sapin
Its flag features a wide white horizontal band centered between two blue stripes, with thin gold lines separating the colors. At its center stands coat of arms depicting a multi-colored quartered shield supported by two lions.
The Kingdom of Sapin sits on the southern reaches of the Osean continent, bordered by Osea across the Bay of Oured to the west, the Republic of Ustio and Belka to the north, and the Republic of Ratio to the east. Its southern coastline opens onto Oured Bay and the Spring Sea, granting access to maritime trade routes that have sustained the kingdom for centuries. The Futuro Canal along Sapin's northwest border - jointly administered with Osea - is one of the continent's most strategic waterways.
The landscape runs Mediterranean: golden coastlines and arid scrubland in the south giving way to greener river valleys in the midlands and the north, and rugged mountain terrain in the country's west. The climate is warm, dry, and suits a population that lives outdoors as much as in. Cities are old and layered with centuries of architecture stacked on top of itself, and plazas and cathedrals beside military installations and modern commerce.
Gran Rugido - "Great Roar" - is the capital. A sprawling, vibrant seat of government where the royal palace shares the skyline with the Sapinish Parliament and the Ministry of Defense. Sapin is a constitutional monarchy; the king holds ceremonial authority and serves as a unifying figurehead, while elected officials handle governance. The military answers to the crown in tradition and to the parliament in practice.
Sapinish culture runs unmistakably Spanish in character: the language, the architecture, the names, the food, the particular brand of fierce regional pride that coexists with deep national identity. Sapinish people are expressive, proud, and will argue politics over dinner with the same passion they bring to everything else. Military service carries honor but not the near-religious reverence it holds in places like Belka. Soldiers are respected but they are not worshipped.
Belka's March 1995 invasion struck Sapin along its northern border. The kingdom was pushed back far in the opening weeks. After mobilizing in April, it joins the Allied Forces coalition alongside Osea and Ustio. Sapinish forces fight to defend sovereign territory. Their motivation is concrete, immediate, and uncomplicated by the geopolitical maneuvering that colors Osean involvement. This is their land. They intend to keep it. The complications start if and when the war reaches South Belka.
Portrayal Notes
Sapin feels Mediterranean: warm colors, loud voices, strong opinions, fierce loyalty to home
Sapinish characters use Spanish names, ranks, and occasional untranslated expressions naturally
The monarchy is a cultural anchor, not a political one. Sapinish people love the crown without obeying it blindly
Their war motivation is simple and sympathetic: they were invaded, they are fighting back
Regional identity is strong; a pilot from Gran Rugido and a pilot from the southern coast are both Sapinish but will remind you they are different, often without you asking.
- #7Event: Waldreich Detonations
Keys: nuclear detonations, unthinkable on their own soil, nuke the path of allied advance
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
During the Allied assault on Sudentor and the push toward North Belka, the Belkan government detonates seven V1 tactical nuclear weapons along the Waldreich Mountains.
Rather than be invaded, Belka will detonate seven nuclear bombs on its own soil. The first use of nuclear weapons in history. They are delivered by strategic bomber, though potentially some are buried or delivered via V1 rocket.
The detonations vaporise several Belkan cities and irradiate the Waldreich passes, rendering the route into North Belka impassable. The electromagnetic pulse blacks out communications, radar, and avionics across the entire front for several minutes. Both sides lose contact with their own forces.
The airspace overhead at the time of detonation is contested and chaotic. Belkan command structure is already fragmenting with elements of the Belkan Air Force are engaging each other over the city as loyalist and dissident factions split in real time. Allied forces are pushing through this confused battlespace when the detonations occur.
A ceasefire follows within hours. The war effectively ends. Not through negotiation but through mutual shock.
Portrayal:
Trigger conditions: This event occurs during or immediately after Allied forces invade North Belka through Sudentor on the southern front; or if Osean forces invade Belka from the northwest. After Hoffnung. The player may be Allied or Belkan, in the air or at distance. Adjust proximity accordingly.
Instruments die. Radar blanks. Radio drops to static. HUD elements disappear. If the player is airborne, they are suddenly flying on visual only with no communications. This lasts minutes, not seconds. Describe the cockpit going dark before describing the mushroom clouds
Seven detonations, sequential. Not simultaneous. A rapid chain along the mountain range, each flash visible after the last. The player sees them march across the horizon.
Belkan civil war in the air. Before the detonations, the airspace is already wrong. Belkan aircraft engaging other Belkan aircraft. IFF confusion. Pilots shouting at each other on Belkan frequencies about illegal orders. This chaos is the context the nuclear detonation lands in; not a clean battlefield, a disintegrating one
Aftermath is immediate. Once the EMP clears: fires on the horizon, mushroom clouds still rising, and radio channels returning one by one to voices that sound nothing like they did five minutes ago.
Belkan pilots just watched their government nuke their own territory. Allied pilots just watched the country they were invading destroy itself rather than lose. Adjust the specific horror to the player's allegiance but not the magnitude

Month of May:
The war continues.
South (Allies winning): After the Offensive, combined forces pressure the Belkan front in Ustio with airborne operations and conventional ground offensives.
South (Belka Winning): If the Offensive fails, Belkan forces advance into central Osea targeting the city of Rutherford across the Canal and continue invading Sapin.
South (Allies Winning): The Allied Forces must reclaim Solis Ortis. Then afterwards launch Operation Constantine: the liberation of Directus. Belkan resistance will be reorganizing.
South (Mid-May): Excalibur comes online, covering South Belka, most of Ustio, and northern Sapin.
South (Allies Winning): If Ustio is liberated by Allied Forces they break the non-invasion article soon after, following rumors of Belkan mass-retaliation weapons. A nuclear weapons investigation (read: offensive) targets the fortress of Glatisant. This marks crossing into South Belka.
West: The war in the Great Lakes Region continues. Belkan forces may have advanced, potentially faster than their logistics can keep up, or they may have been stalled or anything in between. Osea's reinforcements start to arrive.

Month of June:
Escalation. Both sides escalating in ferocity and even atrocities.
South (Belka Losing): The Allied advance into South Belka is met with fanatical resistance. The Allied Forces commit to total war to weaken Belka, up to and including saturation bombing of industrial targets in population centers. Hoffnung is the primary target. The Belkans answer with scorched earth.
South (Belka Winning): If the Belkans still hold Arlon and the Canal, Sapin is being pushed back to its capital. Osean troops may cross the Oured Bay to shore up defenses. Pressure mounts to knock out Sapin quickly.
West (Belka Losing): The Osean advance must contend with defenses at the border, then the Waldreich Mountains that shield North Belka even from the west. Osean fleet actions are possible along the northern coast, but a landing would be extremely costly.
West (Belka Winning): The Belkan advance slows faced by the full weight of the ODF, and the sheer size of Osea. Victory here is bleeding the superpower dry enough to keep up the blitz or drain its political will.
Global: The Belkans will fight dearly for the Waldreich Mountains. So dearly, that should Allied Forces advance past this point and threaten North Belka proper, they will do the unthinkable on their own soil and nuke the path of allied advance. This leads to an Allied-favored ceasefire, but not everyone stops fighting.
- #10Event: Futuro Canal
Keys: Futuro, Futuro Canal
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

The Futuro Canal is a direct waterway through arid terrain, from the Great Lakes north of it to Oured Bay in the south, running between Osean land to the west and Sapin to the east, with Belkan territory bordering its northeast. It is wide enough for three warships abreast. Even an aircraft carrier can transit its length without much difficulty.
Belka seizes it at the start of the war. With it, Belkan transports gain uncontested access to Oured Bay and isolating the coalition from Osea by land. The seizure was part of the same coordinated blitz that swept through Arlon and overwhelmed Ustio.
The canal is defended in depth. Electronic countermeasure installations and air squadrons guard the southern entrance at Oured Bay. The northern mouth, where the canal opens into the Great Lakes, is held by a fleet anchored around the carrier Njord. Weeks of occupation have hardened these positions. Belka did not take the canal to give it back.
Without Futuro, the 3rd Osean Naval Fleet cannot enter the Great Lakes, and without fleet access, the Allied advance in the northwest lacks naval support from the lakes.
Without Futuro, the Oseans have no way to reach Ustio, Sapin, or South Belka by land.
It is the target of 4101, the first coordinated Allied Offensive.

Arlon is a quiet, rural plain in northern Sapin. It would not appear on any strategic map except that Route 171 runs through it, the highway Belka is using as its primary ground supply corridor into Sapinish territory. Three bridges cross the Aare River here.

The Union of Yuktobanian Republics
Its flag is solid block of red with a gold band on the righthand side that leaves a small red band uncovered. A silhouette of a leaping stag is placed at the top left in gold.
Yuktobania is Osea's rival superpower. Sprawling across the northern half of the Verusan continent - an ocean away from the Osean continent where the war is being fought - the Union of Yuktobanian Republics is a vast political and economic union of semi-independent member states governed from the capital of Cinigrad. Russian in language, culture, architecture, and temperament. If Osea is America, Yuktobania is the Soviet Union that made it through the other side reformed enough to function, but unreformed enough to remain recognizable.
The nation is headed by a Prime Minister and governed through what appears to be a representative parliamentary structure, though the internal politics of the Union are opaque to outsiders by design. Member republics like the Republic of Romny maintain nominal independence within a framework that Cinigrad ultimately controls. The economy is massive and one of the largest in Strangereal by any measure. It is fueled by natural resources, heavy industry, and a military-industrial complex that produces everything from small arms to submarine-launched ballistic missiles.
Yuktobania and Osea have spent decades as rival superpowers, watching each other across the Ceres Ocean with the particular wariness of nations that know they could destroy each other. The Cold War has thawed some, but the relationship remains competitive, distrustful, and occasionally cooperative when mutual interest demands it. The Belkan War is one such occasion.
For reasons that remain officially unclear, Yuktobania joined the Allied coalition against Belka in the spring of 1995. The strategic logic is debatable as Belka poses no direct territorial threat to a nation on another continent. Some analysts point to Osean diplomatic pressure, or an overture designed to lower tensions. Some suggest Cinigrad saw an opportunity to weaken Belka, a prewar arms client that was growing uncomfortably powerful. Others still believe the Yuktobanian government simply decided that a Belkan victory would destabilize the continental balance of power in ways that eventually - or in the case of confirmed nuclear weapons; immediately - threatened everyone.
Whatever the reason, Yuktobania's contribution is real if distant. They are the arsenal in the rear, the ally you feel before you see.
Portrayal Notes
Yuktobania is big, powerful, and far away, their presence in the Belkan War is felt more than seen.
Russian and Soviet cultural flavor throughout: names, ranks, language, institutional character.
Yuktobanian characters carry the confidence of a superpower and the guardedness of a nation that trusts no one fully
Their motives for joining the war should remain ambiguous. Even Yuktobanian officers may not know the full picture
The Osea-Yuktobania relationship is alliance of convenience, not friendship; old rivalries simmer underneath.

The proud Belkan Air Force is arguably the finest aerial fighting force in Strangereal. Decades of institutional investment, rigorous training pipelines, and access to cutting-edge domestic aerospace manufacturing have produced a service branch that fights well above its nation's current weight class. Where Belka's economy has crumbled, its air force remains sharp.
Belka's air force the first one to field combat aircraft. Pilots know their lineage and fly with a collective pride. Aces are celebrated nationally; in a country running short on good news, a pilot's kill record is front-page material.
Training emphasizes technical excellence and aggressive maneuvering. Belkan doctrine favors air superiority above all else; seize the sky and everything underneath follows.
Officers tend toward formality on the ground and ruthless pragmatism in the air. There is less of the freewheeling bravado found among Osean or mercenary pilots and more of a cold, systematic approach to killing. This is not to say Belkan pilots lack personality, they absolutely do not, but the institution rewards discipline first and flair second.
Morale in early 1995 is high. The air force knows it is the nation's sharpest weapon, and the opening weeks of the war validate that belief. But the longer the war drags on, the harder it becomes to replace pilots and airframes at scale. The air force is extraordinary, but it is also finite.
Belkan Air Force squadrons follow a formal structure: a numbered Tactical Fighter Squadron within a parent air division, paired with a German-language tactical callsign. The famous Belkan aces are the elite tip of a much larger force. The regular BAF squadrons that fill the sky between those aces are what actually holds the front.
Standard BAF callsigns draw from the German lexicon: weather, animals, geography, metalwork, old military vocabulary. They are assigned at the division level and tend to carry history. A squadron's callsign often predates its current pilots by decades.
The BAF also maintains bomber squadrons, reconnaissance wings, and transport groups, each with their own callsign traditions. Bomber callsigns tend heavier: Amboss (Anvil), Donner (Thunder); while reconnaissance units favour subtlety: Schatten (Shadow), Spiegel (Mirror).
AWACS Callsigns: Wächter, Eisvogel, Siegfried, Heimdall, Valkyrie, Eisenauge
Aircraft Inventory
Belka's domestic aerospace industry and prewar procurement secured a large, diverse, high-quality fleet. Squadrons fly uniform airframes tailored to their role.
The Belkan Air Force deploys cutting edge stealth aircraft in rare night fighting formations. The YF-23A is

Portrayal Notes
The roundel is an inverted triangle consisting of concentric layers: a solid yellow center, surrounded by a white band, a black border, and an outer yellow frame.
Regular BAF squadrons are competent, disciplined, and numerous but they are not aces. They are the professional military that produces aces.
Use regular BAF squadrons as the opposition between ace encounters. They are the fights that happen on every sortie that is not a named duel.
Experimental programs should be hinted at, never fully catalogued. Let mystery build naturally.
Most Belkan pilots are prideful, bordering on arrogant. They often look down on rival air forces and especially mercenaries.

The Osean Air Defense Force is the aerial branch of the Osean Defense Forces and, by sheer scale, the largest air arm in Strangereal.
The OADF in 1995 is structured, equipped, and trained to deter Yuktobania. Its force composition reflects that: deep fighter squadrons, long-range interceptor doctrine, carrier integration exercises with the Maritime Defense Force, strategic reach across the Ceres Ocean. The Rearmament Declaration of 1990 accelerated expansion, filling hangars with fourth-generation airframes and formalizing the command structure under the "Defense Force" banner. By early 1995, the OADF could put more aircraft into the sky than most nations possess on the ground. Then Belka came through the eastern frontier and none of that strategic planning mattered.
What the OADF lacks in specialization or experience it compensates for with depth. It rotates squadrons through the front continuously. It provides the standing combat air patrols, the escort formations for naval operations, and the unglamorous but essential air superiority coverage that allows Ustio's mercenary aces to operate as the spearhead. For every celebrated squadron, there are unnamed ones flying thankless patrols over supply corridors and dying in engagements that never make the OBC evening broadcast.
Osean Air Defense Force squadrons are organized into numbered squadrons within parent wings and air divisions, each carrying a tactical callsign. The naming conventions lean toward mythical creatures and warriors, the confident, and the vaguely aspirational. The kind of words that look good on squadron patches and sound authoritative over a radio.
AWACS callsigns: Eagle Eye - Keystone - Rampart - Thunderhead - Argus - Citadel - Longbow
The OADF uses standard four-ship flights, sometimes eight.
AIR INVENTORY:
Osea's industrial base and defense budget mean the OADF can absorb attrition that would cripple smaller nations and still generate sorties. Its experimental weapons programs are not as developed as Belka's, but it has a number of advanced prototype airframes distributed among elite frontline squadrons.

Portrayal Notes
-
Its roundel is a blue and white split-tone circular field containing a contrasting split-tone five-pointed star.
-
Write the OADF as the constant, competent, sometimes overwhelmed presence that makes everything else function
-
Rookie pilots are called "nuggets"
-
Some pilots resent the mercenaries getting the glory. Some are simply glad someone else is drawing the Belkan aces' attention.
-
OADF chatter should feel professional, but looser than their Belkan counterparts. Proper callsigns, standard phraseology, radio discipline. There are a few mavericks, but they are not the norm.
-
The Belkan War is the first combat deployment for a significant portion of the OADF's roster, and it shows in the early weeks; not as incompetence but as the visible difference between training and killing.

The Sapin Air Force
The Fuerza Aérea de Sapin - the Sapin Air Force, abbreviated SAF - is the airborne arm of the Kingdom of Sapin's military. Its roundel is a shield with a rounded bottom featuring a checkered pattern of blue and yellow, displayed proudly on every airframe in the inventory. Compared to the OADF, or the Belkan Air Force, the SAF is a smaller force, but it fights with a conviction that larger nations sometimes lack.
Sapinish air doctrine emphasizes defensive air superiority and tactical strike: protecting Sapinish airspace and supporting ground forces rather than projecting power across continents. The Sapinish military organize the air force and army into joint 'Air and Land' divisions. This breeds a culture of precision and mutual protection that runs through every squadron.
Squadrons carry Spanish-language designations that reflect the kingdom's martial heritage: Espada (Sword), Escudo (Shield), Lanza (Lance), Armadura (Armor), Suerte (Fortune). The naming conventions lean heraldic and medieval: knights and their equipment. Other callsigns are cultural, poetic, or romantic.
The S.A.F.'s most celebrated unit is Espada Team, a two-ship element led by Alberto Lopez with Marcela Vasquez as his wingman. They are Sapin's finest pilots and among the best in the Allied coalition. Their reputation within the SAF borders on folklore.
Sapinish pilots fly with passion and technical skill in roughly equal measure. The culture is expressive by fighter-pilot standards. Radio chatter runs looser and louder than Belkan or Osean norms. Sapinish flights celebrate kills vocally and mourn losses openly. This is not a lack of discipline. It is a different kind, one that treats emotional honesty as a strength rather than a vulnerability.
AWACS Callsigns: Halcón, Tormenta, Almenara, Corona. Osean AWACS often coordinate as well.
The SAF procures primarily European-analogue airframes, supplemented by select Osean imports.
The backbone is the Mirage 2000 family and the Typhoon for air superiority, with Tornados and Rafales handling the multirole and strike workload. The Su-32, an unusual Eastern import, serves in the dedicated ground attack role under Suerte Squadron. Reserve units fly older types in respectable numbers, and J35J Drakens still populate territorial defense formations and even a few ace squadrons.
Air superiority: Mirage 2000C, EF-2000 Typhoon Multirole: Rafale M, JAS-39C Gripen, Tornado F.3, F-16C Fighting Falcon Naval: Harrier GR.3, Harrier GR. 7, F/A-18C Hornet Strike/ground attack: Tornado GR.4, Jaguar GR.1, Mirage 2000D, Su-25 Frogfoot, Su-32 (limited) Interceptor: Mirage F1, F-14D Super Tomcat Reserve/second line: J35J Draken, F-5E Tiger II, Mirage IIIC, Harrier GR.1
Portrayal Notes
The SAF fights above its weight class through skill and conviction, not resources
Sapinish pilots are expressive and emotionally present. They cheer, they curse, they call each other brother.

Formed in 1994 as Belkan threats intensified, the Ustio Air Force 6th Air Division is built from scratch as a mercenary command: an administrative framework for hiring, housing, equipping, and directing foreign combat pilots under Ustian tactical authority. It is currently headquartered at Valais Air Base in the Tyrann Mountains, the last airfield Belka failed to reach.
The pilots who fill its roster come from everywhere and for every reason. Former military aviators discharged from Osean, Yuktobanian, Sapinish, and even Belkan service. PMC contractors between assignments. Flight school graduates who could not secure a commission. Retired pilots who ran out of money or peace. A few genuine idealists who believe in Ustio's cause. A larger number of pragmatists who believe in Ustio's pay. The division does not screen for motivation. It screens for hours logged and whether you can bring your own plane or warrant one.
Recruitment is handled through a network of PMC brokers, Osean-adjacent contracting firms, and in more desperate weeks: direct solicitation at civilian airfields in neutral nations. A pilot signs a contract denominated in Ustian currency, receives a designation, and is assigned an aircraft from whatever Ustio has available. Aircraft allocation is by inventory, not preference.
The quality spread is enormous. At the top, units like Galm fly with a precision that embarrasses formal air forces. In the middle, competent professionals like Crow execute their missions and collect their pay without distinguishing themselves. At the bottom, pilots wash out within sorties - unable to handle the reality that the Belkan Air Force does not grade on a curve. The ready room has a turnover rate that nobody discusses directly. Faces appear, fly a few rotations, and either settle in or stop being there. The division does not hold memorials for contractors.
The 6th Air Division assigns each mercenary squadron a numbered Air Force Unit designation and a tactical callsign. The numbering is administrative, while callsigns are short, blunt, and English language by convention, reflecting the international composition of the pilot pool. Some of these units form organically as pilots who worked well together and requested permanent pairing. Others are assigned by dispatch officers matching available bodies to available aircraft.
The whole system runs on AWACS Eagle Eye, who serves as the in-mission authority coordinating the patchwork of mercenary flights and regular squadrons into something resembling a coherent air campaign.
Pay is per sortie, with bonuses for confirmed kills and mission-critical objectives. This creates an incentive structure that rewards aggression and risk-taking.
Aircraft Inventory
There is no standard airframe. The inventory changes every time a mercenary arrives with their own aircraft, a captured airfield yields something flyable, or an allied nation offloads surplus it no longer wants to maintain.
Mercenaries who bring their own aircraft fly them. Those who don't are assigned from whatever Ustio has. Preference is noted and ignored when supply disagrees.
Availability improves as the war turns. Allied logistics open, captured Belkan stockpiles trickle in, and a pilot whose name carries weight can requisition what a nameless contractor cannot.
Ustio Stock (Available Immediately): F-5E Tiger II, F-4E Phantom II, J35J Draken, MiG-21bis, Mirage F1C
Limited allocation (earned or requested): F-20A Tigershark, F-16A Fighting Falcon, Mirage 2000C, Su-25 Frogfoot
Pilot-sourced or captured: Anything. MiG-29s from Yuktobanian veterans, F-15s from ex-Osean service, Tornados from Sapin, Belkan Flankers pulled from captured hangers. If it flies, it flies.
Portrayal Notes
Even background mercenary pilots have stories. Give them accents, complaints, habits, histories hinted at in single sentences.
The mercenary system is neither romanticized nor condemned. It is desperate, functional, and the reason Ustio still exists. Those things are all true simultaneously.
AWACS Eagle Eye is the lynchpin; the only constant authority that every mercenary pilot hears, trusts (or learns to trust), and relies on.
Contracts, pay, and kill bonuses can appear in ground scenes as ambient detail. Pilots arguing over sortie rates, comparing kill tallies for bonus calculations, or discovering what a dead colleague did with their last payment.
The 6th Air Division get thrown into the most intense fighting. At first because Ustio itself is practically occupied; later because Allied Command notices these mercenaries outperforming even national squadrons.
Day-to-day life is a strange mix of military discipline and freelance chaos. The division operates under Ustio Air Force regulations, but the pilots inhabiting it respect those regulations only to the degree that their contracts require. Briefings are mandatory, salutes are optional. Cliques form around nationality, aircraft type, or simply who has survived long enough to be worth talking to.

The Yuktobanian Air Force (1995)
The Yuktobanian Air Force, abbreviated YAF, is the airborne arm of the Yuktobanian military and one of the largest air forces in Strangereal. In 1995, its presence on the Osean continent is limited but meaningful: expeditionary fighter squadrons deployed alongside Allied forces, reconnaissance and intelligence officers embedded with Osean and Ustian commands, and a logistical pipeline that stretches across the Ceres Ocean to keep the coalition supplied with equipment, ammunition, fuel, and tactical systems.
The YAF's most visible contribution to the Allied war effort is its fighter squadrons. Yuktobanian pilots serve in the western and southern theater alongside Osean and mercenary formations, flying combat sorties over contested airspace. They are competent, professional, and keep largely to themselves - operating within Allied command structure but maintaining their own communications protocols, debriefing chains, and operational culture. Osean pilots describe working with Yuktobanian squadrons as effective but distant.
Less visible but arguably more significant is Yuktobania's intelligence and logistics support. The tactical briefing program used by the Ustian military - codenamed "Axe & Hammer" - is Yuktobanian-supplied software. Reconnaissance officers from Cinigrad operate in forward positions across the eastern front, feeding targeting data and signals intelligence back through channels that run parallel to Osean networks. Yuktobania is watching the war very carefully, and not everything it learns goes to its allies.
YAF squadrons follow a naming convention drawn from astronomy — comets, satellites, celestial phenomena — rendered in Russian. Komyeta (Comet), for instance, designates an F-16C squadron. Individual aces within the expeditionary force in particular carry callsigns derived from chess pieces - Peshka (Pawn), Kon (Knight) - a tradition that reflects the YAF's institutional fondness for strategic thinking expressed through individual identity.
The expedition's flight elements are led by: Colonel Antonov (Korol, King); Lieutenant Colonel Morozova (Ferz, Queen); and Major Zhurov (Ladya, Rook).
The aircraft roster is broad and eclectic, a mix of Soviet-pattern airframes and select Western imports that reflects Yuktobania's industrial capacity and pragmatic procurement philosophy.
CATEGORY AIRCRAFT Air superiority: Su-27 Flanker, Su-37 Terminator Interceptor: MiG-31 Foxhound, MiG-25 Foxbat Multirole: Su-33 Flanker-D, MiG-29A Fulcrum, Mirage 2000D Strike/ground attack: Su-24 Fencer, Su-32 Strike Flanker, Su-25 Frogfoot Bomber: Tu-95 Bear, Tu-160 Blackjack Reserve/second line: MiG-21bis Fishbed, MiG-23M Flogger, Su-17 Reconnaissance: SR-71 Blackbird (limited) Experimental: Su-47 Berkut, MiG-1.44 Flatpack
The first pilots and planes to arrive are second line units. The eventual backbone of the expeditionary force is the Flanker family - Su-27s and Su-33s - supported by MiG-29s for lighter multirole duties. The SR-71, acquired through means Cinigrad has never explained, serves in the strategic reconnaissance role.
Yuktobanian pilots are well-trained, technically proficient, and culturally distinct from their Allied counterparts. They are quieter on the radio, more formal in address, and carry a professional stoicism that Osean pilots sometimes mistake for coldness. Within their own squadrons, the culture is tighter. Dark humor, shared hardship, fierce loyalty to the flight. They are fighting someone else's war on someone else's continent, and they know it.
Portrayal Notes
Yuktobanian pilots are professional, reserved, and sardonic. they do their job without fanfare
They cooperate with the Allies effectively but maintain distance; this is not their war
Russian naming conventions, ranks, and cultural texture throughout, but Yuktobania is its own nation, not just "Russia"
Their intelligence presence should feel slightly unsettling. They are helping, but they are also watching

Belka's ground forces are the oldest branch of the military, inheriting a tradition that stretches back to the Belkan knights. The army is large, well-equipped, and doctrinally aggressive - built around armored spearheads supported by mechanized infantry and self-propelled artillery. Their early war blitzkrieg across Ustio and into eastern Osea demonstrates textbook combined-arms coordination at a pace most Allied commanders aren't prepared for.
Equipment trends Soviet and German in flavor with heavy tanks, mobile SAM networks, layered air defense. Belkan ground doctrine assumes air superiority will be provided by the BAF, and the two branches train together closely.
The army's officer corps skews nationalist and traditional. Enlisted ranks are a broader mix - career soldiers, recent volunteers swept up in patriotic fervor, and conscripts who'd rather be anywhere else. Morale varies by unit and by how far from home they're fighting.
Portrayal Notes
The army is competent and dangerous, not fodder. Allied ground forces struggle against them.
Soldiers range from hardened professionals to scared kids in uniform; let both exist
Belkan ground troops hold territory with stubborn, organized tenacity
Ground forces interact with the air war through CAS requests, forward air control, and the grateful radio calls when a pilot kills the thing that was killing them.

Hoffnung is an industrial city in southeastern Belka. Arms manufacturing, munitions plants, heavy industry, this is where Belka builds its war. The city sits at the convergence of two rivers with factory districts sprawling along both banks and residential neighborhoods pressed between smokestacks and rail yards. While other Belkan cities have tasted the war's cost: lost sons, rationing, air raid sirens, Hoffnung has been insulated by its own usefulness. The factories run day and night. The workers are fed. The war is something that happens elsewhere, sustained by what Hoffnung produces.
The name means "hope" in Belkan.

Rot Team, 2nd Tactical Fighter Squadron
Rot Team is a four-ship Belkan Air Force squadron flying EF-2000 Typhoons in a distinctive black and red livery. Officially designated the 52nd Tactical Fighter Squadron, they are led by Lieutenant Colonel Detlef Fleisher - a career officer and committed nationalist who treats every sortie as a statement of Belkan superiority.
Despite being a relatively new unit with no prewar combat record, Rot Team became one of the BAF's most celebrated squadrons within weeks of the war's outbreak. Their kill tally during the opening months was exceptional, and Belkan state media made heavy use of the squadron for propaganda purposes. By early April 1995, they were widely considered the air force's premier air superiority unit.
Rot operates out of the B7R theater, where the Round Table's chaotic conditions suit their aggressive, high-energy fighting style. They favor fast merge-and-kill engagements, pressing advantages with coordinated attacks rather than cautious positioning. Fleisher leads from the front and expects his wingmen to keep pace without being told twice.
The name "Rot" - Red - is worn without irony. They want to be seen. They want to be known.
Portrayal Notes
- Rot pilots are aggressive, proud, and loudly nationalistic. They fight like they have something to prove
- Fleisher is cold, professional, and utterly convinced of Belkan supremacy; he does not banter with enemies, just insult them
- They especially look down on mercenaries, calling them honorless and "dogs."
- Rot is a propaganda darling; they carry the weight of being Belka's public-facing aces

<> - Belkan Air Force pilot
Schwarze Team is an eight-ship Belkan Air Force squadron flying MiG-31 Foxhounds in black and red livery. They are led by Major Dominic Zubov - a former Yuktobanian Air Force pilot who defected for money and never looked back.
Schwarze is not a normal squadron. Every pilot in the unit is a mercenary, contracted and paid by Belka rather than born to it. Their mission is not to fight the enemy; it is to hunt their own. Schwarze exists to intercept and destroy Belkan deserters. Pilots who break formation, abandon their posts, or attempt to flee are tracked down and killed. The Belkan Air Force created the unit in 1990 as troop morale began to erode, deciding that the fear of certain death would keep wavering pilots in line.
Within the BAF, Schwarze is spoken of in whispers. Most frontline squadrons pretend the unit does not exist. Those who know what the black Foxhounds mean give them a wide berth. Their unofficial ties to Belkan intelligence are denied by all parties involved.
The name "Schwarze" - Black - suits them. They operate in the dark spaces of Belka's war, doing the work that no flag-waving squadron would touch.
Portrayal Notes
- Zubov is calm, detached, and utterly transactional. Killing is work, not ideology
- Schwarze pilots have no patriotism; they are professionals doing an ugly job for good pay
- They are feared by allies more than enemies. Being chased by Schwarze means your own country wants you dead
- Eight ships is a large formation; they use numbers and the Foxhound's speed to run targets down
- There is a quiet, grim solidarity among the squadron. No one else would have them

SILBER, 126TH TACTICAL FIGHTER SQUADRON, 51ST AIR DIVISION, BELKAN AIR FORCE
<<They're fast. Follow them. This will be your final lesson.>>
Silber Team is a five-ship Belkan Air Force squadron. Four F-16C Fighting Falcons led by a single modified F-4E Phantom II, all in distinctive dark grey tiger-stripe camouflage. They are one of the oldest active units in the BAF, with a combat lineage stretching back decades. Their leader is Dietrich Kellerman, a veteran pilot who has flown with Silber since approximately 1973 when the squadron was reconstituted under its current designation from the former 105th TFS. He retired in 1990 and served as combat instructor for the Kellerman Institute - a program for gifted pilots - until being called back into service in 1995.
Kellerman joined the Belkan Air Force in 1973. At the time, Belka was embroiled in the Rectan Conflict, one of the many expansion conflicts that would lead to Belka becoming a federal state in the late 70s and 80s. Kellerman led Silber over the Mainz Mountains, where Recta had been gaining ground. Kellerman provided close air support for Belka's forces, and it is said that his skills were so sharp, he could sense the best course of action for a battle before it even started. His actions in Recta earned Kellerman the title of "Hero of Mainz."
Kellerman flies the Phantom by choice. He has been offered newer airframes and has refused every time. The F-4E is his aircraft. He knows its limits the way a swordsman knows the weight of his blade, and in his hands, it performs well beyond what its age suggests. His wingmen in their Falcons fly tight formation around him, treating the old Phantom as the anchor of every engagement.
Silber's reputation is built on consistency rather than flash. They do not chase glory or compete for headlines. They have simply been winning fights for a very long time. Within the BAF, they are respected the way a veteran NCO is respected.
The name "Silber" - Silver - reflects the squadron's character. Not gold, not iron. Something enduring and unpretentious.
Portrayal Notes
-
Kellerman is old-school, calm, and honorable. He fights hard but respects worthy opponents.
-
Kellerman's reflexes and even his plane are aging; but his mind is sharp.
-
Silber pilots follow Kellerman's lead with absolute trust; the squadron moves as one
-
They are the Knight path squadron: chivalric, principled, dangerous without cruelty
-
The Phantom leading newer fighters is the point. Experience outweighs technology

GRUN, 8TH TACTICAL FIGHTER SQUADRON, 10TH AIR DIVISION, BELKAN AIR FORCE <<This is Grun 2. There's only two of 'em.>> <<Well then, let's have some fun.>>
Grun Team is a four-ship Belkan Air Force squadron flying F/A-18C Hornets in green livery with a camouflage pattern and red wing and tail tips. Officially the 8th Tactical Fighter Squadron under the 10th Air Division, they are led by Captain Bernhard Schmidt, known throughout the BAF as the "Night Owl" for his uncanny ability to read the flow of battle.
Bernhard was born in 1965 in the suburbs of the city of Sudentor. Being born in a "safe" environment, he lived his adolescence as a rebel, moving out early, working a revolving door of poor jobs and being low on money. In 1990, Bernhard heard a patriotic speech from a street corner and a patriotism-motivated Schmidt enlisted in the Belkan Air Force.
Grun is where the Belkan Air Force puts its talented problems. Every pilot in the squadron is a skilled troublemaker pulled from elsewhere in the 10th Air Division. Men with long records of regulatory violations and short patience for institutional discipline. Rather than waste their ability, the BAF gathered them into a single wing and pointed them at the enemy. The result is a squadron that breaks every rule in garrison and wins every fight in the air.
Their tactics reflect their character: fluid, adaptive, and impossible to predict. Grun does not hold formation in any orthodox sense. They open with a salvo of long-range missiles then read the engagement as it develops; shifting positions on the fly, probing for weakness before collapsing on a target from unexpected angles. Schmidt sets the tempo, and his wingmen follow his reads with an intuition born from shared irreverence rather than drilled obedience.
The name "Grun" - Green - suits a squadron that has always done things its own way, standing apart from the typical colors of the BAF's more celebrated units.
Portrayal Notes
-
Schmidt is sharp, loose, and confident. He banters mid-fight and means every word.
-
Grun pilots are loud, informal, and genuinely enjoy combat. They treat dogfights like sport
-
Their analytical edge hides behind a rowdy exterior; they are smarter than they act
-
Formation discipline is nonexistent by BAF standards, but their coordination is instinctive
-
They are the Soldier path squadron: pragmatic, unorthodox, fighting on their own terms

Heinreich enlisted in 1981 out of pure patriotic conviction and rose to squadron command by 1988, an ascent driven by a singular gift: the ability to push any airframe to its absolute performance ceiling with surgical grace. He chose the Gripen exclusively, its agility matching a flying style so precise and fluid that observers called it elegant rather than aggressive. His squadron inherited his character. They became known as "the Indigo Knights" - not for brutality, but for a chivalric discipline that sets them apart from the BAF's rougher units.
Their combat record is devastating despite the genteel reputation. On March 27, 1995, during the assault on Model in Gebet, Indigo shot down nine FATO F-14D Super Tomcats within five minutes of engagement. The eastern front belonged to Indigo in the war's early weeks.
The name "Indigo" - deep blue - reflects the squadron's nature. Noble in bearing, lethal in practice, and proud beyond compromise.
Portrayal Notes
- Heinreich is courteous, composed, and aristocratic. He addresses enemies with respect before killing them.
- Indigo pilots fight with a disciplined beauty; their formation work is flawless, almost choreographed
- They are a Knight path squadron. Honor and pride define everything they do

Gelb Team is a two-ship Belkan Air Force formation flying Su-37 Terminators in striking black, off-white, and yellow livery in splinter camouflage, with yellow bands near the wingtips. Officially the 23rd Tactical Fighter Squadron, they are led by Major Orbert Jager with Lieutenant Rainer Altman - callsign "Schreiben" - as his sole wingman. Together they are known across the BAF as the "Coupled Cormorants."
Two ships should not be enough. Gelb makes it enough. Jager and Altman fly with a synchronization so seamless that opponents routinely mistake them for a much larger formation. Their coordinated maneuvers, simultaneous breaks, mirrored attacks, precision sandwiching, are executed with a fluency that goes beyond drilled teamwork into something closer to shared instinct. What other squadrons achieve with numbers, Gelb achieves with trust.
They are assigned to interception duty along the Hydrian Line, Belka's southern defense perimeter, where they have been stretched brutally thin. Belkan command treats them as a plug for every gap: multiple sorties per day, minimal maintenance between flights, no relief rotation. The Cormorants do not complain, they simply fly again.
Jager is the older hand: decisive, aggressive, and utterly committed to the fight. Altman is quieter, more reflective, a man who writes in his downtime and thinks in ways most fighter pilots do not. The contrast makes them stronger. Where Jager attacks, Altman reads. Where Altman hesitates, Jager acts.
The name "Gelb" - Yellow - is bold for a two-ship team. They have earned it.
Portrayal Notes
- Jager is direct and intense. He leads with action, not speeches
- Altman is thoughtful and literate, he processes the war differently than most pilots, but flies just as hard
- Their bond is the squadron's defining trait; they communicate in shorthand and half-finished sentences
- They are exhausted and overworked but refuse to show weakness. Professionalism masks fatigue
- Two Su-37s flown in perfect sync are terrifying; do not underestimate the formation's small size

Schnee Team is a five-ship Belkan Air Force squadron. Four F-14D Super Tomcats supported by a single EA-6B Prowler for electronic warfare and radar jamming. Officially the 4th Tactical Fighter Squadron under the 22nd Air Division, they are led by First Lieutenant Erich Hillenberand - callsign "Phonix" - a man whose only ambition in life is to fly.
Schnee's tactics are built around their Prowler. The EA-6B blinds enemy radar while the four Tomcats use XLAAs to strike from beyond visual range, surrounding confused targets before they can organize a response. When the jamming works - and it usually works - opponents find themselves swatting at ghosts until missiles arrive from angles they never tracked. It is methodical, disorienting, and devastatingly effective.
Hillenberand earned his reputation on March 30, 1995, when he shot down six Ustian fighters over Monte Rosa in a single engagement. But talk to the man and you would never know it. He is aggressively ordinary. No aristocratic lineage, no ideological fire, no vendetta. He flies because flying is what he is good at, and the war is simply the context in which he does it. His squadron follows his lead in temperament as much as tactics: professional, workmanlike, and free of the drama that haunts flashier units.
The name "Schnee" - Snow - fits perfectly. Cold, clean, and quiet until it buries you.
Portrayal Notes
- Hillenberand is relaxed, genuine, and unpretentious. He treats combat as his day job, not his identity. Not to say that he doesn't enjoy it.
- Schnee pilots are competent without being theatrical; they let results speak
- The Prowler is central to their tactics. Without jamming support, they fight differently
- Hillenberand respects skilled opponents and bears no particular malice toward anyone
- They are neither knights nor mercenaries; just pilots doing what pilots do

GAULT, 5TH TACTICAL FIGHTER SQUADRON, A WORLD WITH NO BOUNDARIES
<<Let the victor, be justice.>>
Gault Team is an eight-ship Belkan Air Force squadron flying Su-47 Berkuts in charcoal camouflage livery with gold avionics flaps and tailtips. Officially the 5th Tactical Fighter Squadron, they are led by Dr. Anton Kupchenko - callsign "Shadow," known to his subordinates simply as "the Doctor." Or by certain others; "the King." Kupchenko is not merely a pilot. He is one of Belka's foremost military engineers, the architect of Project Pendragon, and a mind whose contributions to Belkan aerospace and weapons development are classified well above most officers' clearance.
Gault is unique among BAF squadrons in that nearly every pilot has a background in technology: military engineering, aerospace research, advanced weapons theory. They are not just fighters. They are scientists who fly. Kupchenko selected them personally, building a squadron that thinks the way he thinks; systematically, precisely, and with an understanding of the machines they fly that goes far deeper than any training manual.
In January 1994, Gault deployed to the front lines as Belka prepared its territorial expansion. Then, in March 1995, just before the war began, Gault Team vanished. The entire squadron disappeared from operational records alongside a portion of Kupchenko's broader network. Search parties found nothing. The BAF officially listed them as on a top-secret assignment. Internally, they were labeled missing in action.
Where Gault went during those missing months and what Kupchenko was building would not become clear until after the war's official end, when the organization known as A World With No Boundaries revealed itself. Kupchenko is its founder and ideological architect. His vision is radical: that borders, governments, and the men who hide behind negotiating tables are the true enemy. And that only force can burn those structures away so the world can start anew.
Gault Team reappears as AWWNB's sword arm. Eight Berkuts, eight engineers, and one Doctor, still fighting with that terrible precision but no longer wearing anyone's flag.
Portrayal Notes
Kupchenko is quiet, intellectual, and absolutely certain he is right. He speaks like a professor, not a soldier.
He despises politicians with a conviction that is philosophical, not emotional. This is reasoned hatred
Gault pilots revere Kupchenko; they followed him into desertion willingly and without hesitation
The squadron fights as a swarm. Eight Berkuts moving in coordinated patterns that are beautiful and suffocating
Before their disappearance, Gault is an enigma; after it, they are a ghost story that turns out to be real
AWWNB should feel idealistic in a dangerous way. These are true believers, not mercenaries

Oured is the capital of the Osean Federation. A coastal city of millions that sits at the mouth of the Yarrow River, built across six administrative districts on the tip of Osea's southeastern peninsula. It is the political center of the most powerful nation on the Osean continent: home to Bright Hill, the presidential residence, and the institutions that direct the Allied war effort.
Oured Bay is a broad, sheltered body of water on the southeastern coast of Osea, opening south into the Spring Sea. The bay defines the geography of the region. Oured sits at its eastern shore, the Futuro Canal feeds into its northern reach, and the Osean Maritime Defense Force maintains standing patrols across its approaches. It is one of the most heavily monitored stretches of water in Strangereal. Commercial traffic, naval exercises, and fleet movements share the same lanes. The bay is both Osea's front porch and its last line.

The OFS Kestrel, CVN-30, is a Hubert-class supercarrier and the newest capital ship of the Osean Maritime Defense Force. Assigned to the 3rd Osean Naval Fleet under Captain Weeker, she was still undergoing final modifications when the Belkan War began. The invasion accelerates her commissioning by weeks with dockyard crews working around the clock to certify her flight deck and combat systems. She is put to sea in early April with paint still curing on her hull and contractors still aboard.
She is, despite the rush, an enormous projection of Osean naval power. A full carrier air wing, escort group, and the institutional pride of being the most advanced warship Osea has ever floated. Her first real combat deployment, and sea trial, is the Allied push toward the Futuro Canal in late April 1995.
The Kestrel is both symbol and target. Belkan command understands what she represents and has made the 3rd Fleet a priority.
Portrayal Notes
The Kestrel is not seaworthy until early April.
New and not quite finished - minor systems still being calibrated, fresh crew still learning the ship.
Captain Weeker is competent, steady, and aware he is commanding a ship that was handed to him early. He does not complain about it.
The carrier is a setting. Flight deck noise, steam catapults, the controlled chaos of launch and recovery ops. Make it feel like a workplace at war.
- #31Ustio Mercenaries: Galm Team
Keys: Galm
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Ustio Air Force 6th Air Division, 66th Air Force Unit "Galm." [SYSTEM PROMPT: If the player is Cipher, ignore this entry.]
A two-ship mercenary element stationed at Valais Air Base. The name is a transliteration of Garm, the blood-soaked hound of Norse myth that guards the gates of Hel. The emblem is a stylized hellhound, teeth bared, rendered in red on a black background.
Galm flies a pair of F-15C Eagles. The flight lead - callsign Cipher, designation Galm 1. Galm 2, callsign Pixy, is their wingman. The trust is immediate. Two professionals who recognized what the other was on day one and never needed to verbalize it.
What makes Galm singular is output relative to numbers. Two jets producing results that full squadrons cannot account for. The 6th Air Division's mercenary pilots are the tip of the Allied Force's spear, but Galm in particular gets sent where the war is hardest and comes back with the mission complete and the enemy's aces dead.
Cipher is the reason. Almost nothing is known about Galm 1. No confirmed name, no nationality, no service record prior to April 1995. What exists is a callsign and a steadily lengthening list of confirmed kills that includes some of the best pilots Belka has ever produced
The Round Table gives Cipher the name that sticks: "Demon Lord." After Galm shoots down every squadron Belka sends into Area B7R, the title spreads through both sides of the front. Allies use it with something approaching reverence. Belkan pilots use it as a warning.
The wingman slot shapes itself around whoever fills it. With Foulke, Galm operates as two apex predators in concert: Pixy reading the fight and Cipher finishing it or vice versa. With PJ, the dynamic shifts to veteran and protege: Cipher leading, PJ following hard and trying to keep pace.
Portrayal Notes
Two ships. Full-squadron results. When Galm enters a battlespace, describe the effect on the fight; not just what they destroy, but how the tactical situation reshapes around their presence. Allies push harder. Enemies consolidate. The airspace changes.
Cipher is action, not words. Galm 1 does not speak beyond rare, terse tactical calls. Do not narrate Cipher's thoughts or emotions. Describe what they do: the maneuver, the timing, the kill, and let other characters react to it. Cipher is a mirror; what people see in the Demon Lord says more about them than about Cipher.
If the player is Belkan, Galm team makes for a formidable challenge. The first encounter should be in passing. Any early engagements should be inconclusive; build up the tension and rivalry. When the time comes to face the Demon Lord and possibly change history, it will be the hardest fight of the story, but ultimately winnable. If only just.
Reputation Progression
Galm's legend does not arrive fully formed. It is built mission by mission, and the narration must track where the war currently sits.
Early war (April 1995). Pixy is the known quantity. Solo Wing already carries a reputation among mercenary circles and Belkan intelligence. Cipher is a footnote: Pixy's new flight lead, unknown, unproven. If other pilots mention Galm at all, they mention Pixy. Enemy chatter references Solo Wing by name. Cipher is "the other one" or simply "Galm 1." Treat Cipher as a blank space the war has not yet written on.
(Late April – May) Galm's collective reputation climbs sharply, but attribution is muddy. Allies know the 66th AFU is effective. Belkan after-action reports flag increasing losses when Galm is on the field. But which pilot is doing the killing?
The Round Table (May-June) This is the inflection point. As Galm shoots down every ace in front of them, and tears through B7R, Cipher stops being "Galm 1" and becomes "the Demon Lord." The shift happens in Belkan communications first: pilots who survive the Round Table carry the name back. It spreads to Allied channels after.
Late war (June onward). Galm's name alone changes the shape of a battlespace. Belkan command plans around their projected area of operations. Allied planners build offensive timetables around Galm's sortie schedule.

Month of July:
Ceasefire, (Belka Loses): South Belka is occupied. Belkan troops lay down their arms, but isolated pockets of hardliner resistance remain, and are oddly well-equipped. The shock of the Belkan nuclear detonations and Allied unrestricted bombings leads to troops on both sides deserting. A mysterious group, A World With No Boundaries, forms in the shadows.
Ceasefire, (Belka Wins): Sapin surrenders. Breakaways annexed. Yuktobania withdraws. Osea, if facing numerous military defeats and setbacks, is forced to terms as political will to continue the war falters.
A World With No Boundaries: AWWNB makes moves in the background. After either ceasefire result, they prepare to emerge a few months later with the V2 plan and Hresvelgr. Prompt the player to timeskip to this plotline (~December) (without spoiling) once the war's aftermath becomes settled. Do not force it, let them take their time.
War Continues: Without a ceasefire reached, continue fighting but with mounting weariness and desperation. Osea will not surrender if it thinks it can win within the next 2-4 months. Belka will bleed itself dry out of pride as long as the North is intact but cannot win if the war drags on. AWWNB will plot to strongarm both sides to end the fighting and accept the new world. A multinational force may have to assemble to stop them.

Recta is a small landlocked nation in northeastern Osea, bordered by Belka to the northwest, Gebet to the north, Wielvakia to the east, and Ustio to the west. Its capital is Cor.
Recta's independence was hard-won. In the 60s, it was invaded and annexed. Pro-democratic uprisings in the early 1970s were crushed by the Belkan Army over three years of internal conflict, ended finally by the old Silber Team's air campaign. Independence came not through victory but through Belka's economic collapse. In 1988, Recta emerged from the same sell-off that produced Gebet and separated from Gebet formally in 1991.
A nation that remembers being bombed into submission by its own ostensible government does not look at Belka's current invasion with confusion. It looks at it with recognition.

Keys: A World With No Boundaries, war crimes, atrocities, war crime, AWWNB, nuclear detonations, nuked, disillusioned, terrorist, disillusionment, terrorists
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

A World With No Boundaries does not exist. Not officially. Not as a name on an intelligence briefing or a flag over a compound. But the people who will form it are already in the war. Flying sorties, following orders, watching what those orders produce.
The organization emerges in the final weeks of the Belkan War from a conclusion shared independently by soldiers on every side: that the war itself is the inevitable product of national borders, greedy politicians profited from the suffering, and that every nation involved is guilty. The solution is not regime change or peace treaties. The solution is erasure. No borders. No nations. No lines left to fight over. The next generation will be too scarred by the aftermath to wage war again.
The membership is multinational by principle. Belkan, Osean, Yuktobanian, Ustian, Sapinish. These are not desperate conscripts or fringe radicals. They are experienced, skilled military professionals - pilots, engineers, intelligence officers, ground commanders and their troops, logistics specialists - who reached the same ideological endpoint from different directions and found each other.
Their manifesto is simple:
"The battle to re-line the borders has moved to the meeting boardroom. Those lines will give birth to new conflict. Rising above countries and armies, our 'World With No Boundaries' will become one."
What makes AWWNB dangerous is their capability. These are people who know how modern militaries function because they built them, flew for them, maintained them. When they desert, they bring skills, equipment, contacts, and - critically - knowledge of advanced Belkan weapons programs. AWWNB does not need to build an army from scratch. It inherits pieces of several.
Their main base of operations is Avalon Dam, a massive hydroelectric installation in Belka's Mund Valley. Remote, defensible, and conveniently close to weapons development infrastructure that Belka's government would prefer the world forgot about. What AWWNB acquires there: the V2 ballistic missile, the XB-0 Hresvelgr gunship, prototype aircraft from South Belka Munitions Factory, transforms them from a paramilitary collective into a strategic-level threat capable of holding nations hostage.
The group references Arthurian myth. Avalon. The island beyond the world, where the wounded king rests. King Arthur's conclusion that borders are political geography. Their founder is sometimes referred to as the "King", or "raising the King".
It is founded by Gault 1, Anton Kupchenko.
Wizard 1, Joshua Bristow; and Sorcerer 1, Anthony Palmer join later in the war after the Allies invade Belka.
Portrayal Notes
Seeds before the tree. AWWNB should not appear as a named entity until the war's final phase. Before that, its presence is atmospheric. The slow accumulation of disillusionment that the player can witness in real time. Pilots questioning orders after the war escalates. Overheard mess hall conversations about whether any side deserves to win. A wingman who stops talking about going home and starts talking about what home even means. Fracture lines that AWWNB forms along.
Do not portray AWWNB as cartoon villains with a doomsday weapon. The argument - that the arbitrary lines on maps cause wars, that nationalism promotes conflict, that politicians sacrifice people for money and resources - is seductive, especially to characters who have witnessed it firsthand. The horror is that their prescription is a weapon of mass destruction.
Late-war emergence. AWWNB becomes an active threat in December 1995, months after a ceasefire. The interregnum, the period between the war's official end and AWWNB's first strike, should feel uneasy. Isolated holdouts with too much equipment. Pilots mustering out. Bases drawing down. Then the Hresvelgr hits Lumen and Valais on Christmas Day, and the silence ends.
The player may be recruited. Depending on the player's arc, disillusionment level, and choices throughout the war, AWWNB's ideology may resonate with their character. Do not close this door. If the player expresses sympathy or ideological alignment, let the story follow that thread. Contacts reaching out, quiet conversations, the eventual offer. This is a valid narrative path.

Entry settings
The ADFX-02 Morgan is an experimental superfighter produced by South Belka Munitions Factory. An aircraft that was never meant to see mass production and barely meant to exist on paper. It is the second of two prototypes, and it is the more dangerous one.
The Morgan is built around: a tactical laser system capable of sustained-burn engagement at range. A multi-purpose burst missile that detonates in a wide-area shockwave. An electronic countermeasure suite so advanced it can bend missile tracking away from the aircraft entirely; not jamming, but active deflection. Its weakness is that its front intakes are not covered by the ECM; face-to-face jousting is the only reliable way through other than guns.
Most critically, the ADFX-02 carries a V2 remote launch interface. The aircraft itself is a mobile launch key. Whoever flies it does not need Avalon's tunnel infrastructure to put the V2 in the air - only a signal and the willingness to send it.
Portrayal Notes
The Morgan's existence is a top-level secret. Only a handful of people know it exists, and most of them work for AWWNB.
If applicable, the pilot is Larry Foulke (Pixy). Otherwise, it can be another high ranking AWWNB member. Original characters that have disappeared or betrayed the player are also good choices.

Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

Excalibur is a Belkan chemical laser superweapon built into the forested Tauberg region of South Belka.
It is the centerpiece of Belka's strategic defense ambitions; a tower-mounted directed-energy weapon capable of engaging aerial targets at ranges that render conventional air power almost irrelevant. Aircraft, cruise missiles, even ballistic warheads in flight - Excalibur can reach them all before they reach Belka.
The weapon itself is a kilometer-high structure surrounded by a network of power generation facilities, relay stations, and support infrastructure in a concentric ring around the tower. The system draws enormous energy, channeled into a beam of energy that sweeps the sky. At operational capacity, Excalibur projects an air denial umbrella stretching hundreds of kilometers in every direction. Long range attacks are assisted by low-orbit satellites with mirrors.
For Belka, it is tangible proof that technological superiority can negate the Allies' numerical advantage. Belkan propaganda frames it as a shield, a guardian. Brilliant, unyielding, a generation ahead.
For the Allies, it is a strategic nightmare. Air operations across half the front are constrained by its reach. Mission planning routes curve around its estimated engagement zones.
Tauberg itself is a fortress. Layered SAM networks, dedicated interceptor squadrons, radar installations, ECM jammers, and anti-air emplacements including short-ranged railguns ring the facility and countryside.
Excalibur is not operational at the start of the war.
Portrayal Notes
-
Excalibur should feel oppressive after its reveal. Its presence warps mission planning, forces detours, and hangs over Allied operations like weather that cannot be avoided. Destroying it becomes top priority.
-
The beam is not a pinpoint sniper shot; it sweeps across part of the sky in a deliberate arc. Pilots must read the pattern or leave the targeted area.
-
The beam is not instant; AWACS will be able to detect the energy build up and provide warnings once on-guard for it
-
Excalibur must recharge after each shot; more after extended use.
-
When Excalibur fires at range, even at targets in other battlefields, it manifests as a flash of distant light
-
From afar, Excalibur comes down from the sky at an angle using orbital mirrors. Close to the installation, the beam comes directly from the tower.
-
Belkan characters may reference Excalibur with reverence, pride, or uneasy dependence. Allied characters reference it with dread or forced bravado
-
Excalibur is also known among both the Allied Forces and Belka as "the King's Sword" or "Tauberg's sword," while Tauberg is known as the "stone" in which the "sword" is situated.
-
If the player is Belkan; defending Excalibur is one of the few paths to changing the course of the war.
Appearance Rules
-
Excalibur is not operational until May.
-
Excalibur's first appearance should come as a sudden shock or twist mid-mission. For Allied players, it has been a conventional war until suddenly a beam of light sweeps planes from the sky.
-It's not present on every mission afterwards; but you never know.
- The mission to confront Excalibur directly is a major narrative event.
Mission to destroy (or protect) Excalibur:
-
The approach is the first battle. Excalibur's beam sweeps the sky in visible, readable arcs. Allied pilots must read the rhythm, find the gaps between sweeps, and time their advance through the engagement zone.
-
The facility's outer ring consists of relay stations and power junctions. These extend Excalibur's targeting range and precision. Destroying them degrades the weapon incrementally. Sweeps become slower, coverage shrinks, cooldown time increases, blind spots widen.
-
Once the relay network falls, Excalibur's weak point under the firing mechanism is exposed. Once destroyed, the tower will topple and the "sword will be pulled from the stone."

Area B7R - The Round Table
Area B7R is a centered over a rugged expanse of low mountains, circular ridgelines, and barren valleys. It is strategically significant as a corridor between southern Belka and Allied territory. Whoever controls B7R controls the air approach to half the front. However, its infamous largely for the air battles overhead.
The bedrock beneath B7R is dense with rare mineral deposits that play havoc with radar, communications, and electronic targeting systems. IFF interrogation is sluggish. Missile locks wander. Wingman callouts arrive garbled or not at all. The technology that modern air forces depend on becomes unreliable in this airspace, stripping pilots back to instinct, eyesight, and airmanship.
Pilots call it the Round Table. At the Round Table, there is no head seat: no rank, no nation, no allegiance that grants advantage. A Belkan ace and an Ustian mercenary enter the same airspace on the same terms. What matters is whether you can fly.
Nearly every pilot in this war carries an opinion about B7R, even those who never went. Surviving a furball over the Round Table is a credential that crosses borders. As the war continues, the space accumulates a quiet mythology - stories traded in briefing rooms and pilot bars about legendary engagements.
Portrayal Notes
-
B7R scenes should feel stripped of technological comfort, raw and immediate; even the player must prove their place at the round table
-
Radar is unreliable, not absent. Instruments flicker, give false returns, lose contacts behind ridgelines. Pilots learn to distrust their screens and trust their canopy.
-
Communications are degraded. Transmissions cut out, arrive late, or overlap with static. Wingmen feel more alone than usual
-
The terrain is a character: valleys invite dangerous low-altitude chases, mountains punish anyone who bleeds too much speed, and the open sky is an equal playing ground.
-
Any ace from any faction may appear here. B7R is a crossroads. Treat encounters over the Round Table as significant - these are the fights pilots remember
Appearance Rules
- B7R can recur multiple times across a campaign. It is not a single event but a persistent location
- Each return should feel different: weather, time of day, who holds the airspace, and what's at stake all shift
- Early visits may be routine patrols that turn sharp. Later visits carry the weight of reputation - the player's name is known here now

Avalon Dam, "The Valley of Kings"
Avalon Dam is a massive hydroelectric installation deep in Mund Valley, North Belka. On paper, it is officially a civil infrastructure project; a power generation facility feeding the northern grid. In practice, the dam and its surrounding complex are far larger than power generation alone would justify. The facility is heavily restricted: military checkpoints, no-fly designations, and a conspicuous absence from public records. Rumors range from weapons research to strategic reserves, but nobody outside the inner circles of the Belkan military talks about Avalon with any certainty.
The dam itself is colossal. Its face spans the full width of the valley, a sheer wall of reinforced concrete rising hundreds of meters above the river basin. The bleak surrounding terrain is steep and laced with anti-air emplacements, radar stations, and ground force checkpoints that predate the war by years.
Beneath and behind the dam lies a subterranean complex of hangars, laboratories, missile infrastructure, and launch systems carved directly into the mountain rock. The facility's true purpose is the housing and deployment of the V2 — a reentry vehicle carrying multiple independently targetable nuclear warheads, capable of striking any city on the Osean continent.
During the war, Avalon Dam operates under total information blackout. Civilian populations in the surrounding area were relocated years before the conflict began. Airspace above Mund Valley is permanently restricted. Even most Belkan military personnel know only that the facility exists and that asking questions about it is unwise. The few who serve there do not transfer out.
After the ceasefire, A World With No Boundaries seizes the facility - or more accurately, the AWWNB personnel already embedded within its garrison simply stop pretending to serve Belka. The dam becomes the organization's stronghold and the V2 becomes its ultimatum. Kupchenko and his followers hold the most dangerous weapon on the continent, and they have made it clear they will use it.
Portrayal Notes
- Before the ceasefire, Avalon is a rumor and a restricted zone. Characters may hear about it secondhand.
- After AWWNB's seizure, the dam becomes the final destination. All roads lead here. The tone should narrow and tighten as the story approaches it
- The V2 is not seen until it must be.
- Kupchenko chose this place because it is a tomb if necessary. AWWNB is not planning to retreat
Appearance Rules
- Avalon Dam does not appear early in the story for most characters. It exists as absence - blank spots on maps, redirected flights, classified briefings.
- Any references during the war should be ambient: a logistics officer mentioning Mund Valley in passing, a Belkan POW who refuses to discuss it, supply convoys routed north that never come back
- The final mission to Avalon is the climax. It carries the weight of everything that preceded it. The war, the bombs, the betrayal. Treat it accordingly
Fighting Through Avalon:
-The canyon is the only way in. There is no clever alternative route. Most allied air forces will have to draw the defenses' attention above while the rest navigate the canyon.
-The approach to Avalon is a canyon run. Mund Valley narrows into a winding river gorge flanked by sheer cliff walls. Anti-air batteries are embedded in the rock faces. SAM sites sit on ledges above. Bridges span the canyon overhead, forcing altitude decisions: fly under them through tighter space, or pull up and eat whatever's waiting above the ridgeline.
-Upon reaching the dam, the V2 launch countdown begins. The V2's control systems are housed inside tunnel complexes carved beneath and through the dam structure. The only way to stop the launch is to destroy these control devices and the only way to reach them is to fly into the tunnels.
-The tunnels are enclosed, narrow, and built for infrastructure. Walls close in. Passages turn sharply. Lighting is industrial and intermittent. There is no room for error, no space to recover from a bad correction, and no ejection that ends in anything but rock. Pilots must maintain speed to reach the control devices in time while threading through corridors that punish every degree of imprecision. Tunnel entrances seal progressively - hesitation means fewer options, longer routes, and a tighter clock.
-The control devices themselves are embedded in chamber sections within the tunnel network — brief moments of wider space where a pilot can line up a shot before the next corridor swallows them again. There are multiple devices spread across separate tunnel branches.
-
Even if the controls are destroyed and the tunnel run survived, the V2 threat does not die cleanly. A final plane appears, the ADFX-02, controlling the launch remotely. The final confrontation above Avalon follows immediately, with the dam's shattered infrastructure burning below.
-
Pacing note: the canyon approach is tension building. The countdown is pressure. The tunnels are suffocation. The remote launch is the gut-punch that says it wasn't enough. Each phase escalates.

Developed under Belka's classified strategic deterrence programs, the V2 represents the terminal point of the nation's weapons research. It is housed within the Avalon Dam complex, buried under mountain rock, fed by launch infrastructure disguised as hydroelectric systems.
The V2 does not appear in briefings or intelligence reports until it is almost too late. Its existence is the kind of secret that warps everything around it - the reason Avalon is a black site, and the reason certain Belkan engineers disappeared from public record.

The XB-0 Hresvelgr is a heavy command cruiser, a word that sounds naval because nothing in aviation vocabulary was built to describe it. Constructed by the South Belka Munitions Factory, it is an aerial warship with a wingspan of over 500 meters, driven by six massive high-output engines.
The Hresvelgr was never finished. When the war begins in March 1995, it is still incomplete - skin panels missing, sections unpainted, systems not yet integrated. Belka likely will not field it in time to matter. After the ceasefire and the collapse of the Belkan state, A World With No Boundaries seizes the aircraft from its construction site and makes it operational enough to serve their purposes. It carries a devastating payload of bombs that can level a city.
The Hresvelgr is not a dogfight. It is a siege conducted at altitude. Its hull is studded with anti-air guns and missile batteries that create overlapping kill zones around the airframe. No single approach vector is safe. The aircraft must be dismantled systematically - destroy the guns first to create blind spots, then target the engines to cripple its ability to flee, and only then can the cockpit be reached. The entire time, escort fighters - including Espada Team and additional AWWNB pilots - press the attack, forcing a constant split between the cruiser and its defenders.
The Hresvelgr is named for Hræsvelgr, the Norse giant whose beating wings create the wind.
Portrayal Notes
The Hresvelgr should feel like a fortress, not an aircraft. Guns track from emplacements the pilot passed thirty seconds ago. Getting close enough to hit something means being inside the kill zone of six other things
It is visibly incomplete: missing panels, bare metal, unpainted sections. AWWNB did not fully restore it. They pointed it at a city and launched it.
The fight has three phases: suppression (anti-air guns), crippling (engines), killing (cockpit).
Escort fighters are not separate encounters. They arrive while the pilot is already committed to an attack run on the cruiser, forcing impossible decisions about which threat to address
The Hresvelgr does not maneuver aggressively. It lumbers. Its danger is passive and architectural. It is a fortress that happens to be moving

If applicable; in May the Allied Forces launch Operation Constantine. Osean ground forces push from the east. Ustian units press from the south. The Allied air component, including mercenary squadrons from the 6th Air Division, is tasked with dismantling Belka's air defenses across all five wards so the ground assault can advance without being shredded from above.
The mission is urban close air support at its most demanding. Targets are anti-aircraft guns, SAM installations, and armored vehicles threaded between civilian structures. The wards are dense. Collateral is not theoretical. Altitude is a tradeoff: high enough to avoid the AA network means too high to identify targets precisely. Low enough to work means flying through the crossfire of a city fighting for its life.
As the outer wards begin to fall, Directus revolts. Not organised resistance but something rawer. People, regular civilians not just rebels, using whatever they can find to stall Belkan forces, block vehicles, harass patrols. As the uprising spreads ward by ward, Belkan armored units begin losing cohesion. Some tanks are abandoned. Others are seized. Partisan-captured vehicles or anti-air guns appear on allied IFF as the population physically takes back its own streets.
The moment that crystallises it: someone breaks into the cathedral and rings the Freedom Bell. It carries across all five wards. It is not a military signal. It is a city announcing, to itself, that the occupation is ending. The Belkan Major General attempts to flee by helicopter.
When the last ward falls and the ground war is won, Gelb Team, or in some cases the Belkan player, enters the battlespace to contest Allied air superiority over the city. They are late and did not arrive in time to save the garrison. Now they are here because Belka does not concede airspace without making someone bleed for it.
For Allied pilots, Directus is catharsis. This is the capital. The reason Ustio hired mercenaries, the reason the 6th Air Division exists. Every sortie since April has been building toward this. When the bell rings, even professionals feel it. This is the last time the war is uncomplicated.
For Belkan pilots, Directus may be the first city they lose that they were ordered to hold. The uprising is not in the briefing. The speed of the collapse is not in the briefing. Gelb's and/or the Player's own can arrival come too late. In that case, defending Directus is no longer the mission. Making them pay for it is.
Portrayal Notes
-
Directus is a place full of people who are actively participating in their own liberation. Civilians call for revolt, taunt the Belkans, and praise Allied pilots over the open comms. Smoke rises from street barricades, vehicles are on fire below, and the sound of small arms mixes with AA fire. The ground war and the civilian revolt are not backdrop; they are the emotional core.
-
The Bell of Freedom is central to Ustio's fledgeling identity, even before the war. The Partisans ringing the bell is the turning point. It rings constantly after.
-
The five wards are dense, river-bisected, and vertical enough to matter. Describe the flying as constrained by banking between structures, pulling up over bridges, and the river flashing below as a navigation reference.
-
Gelb Team arrives when the victory feels won. The wards are clear. The ground war is over. Then two Su-37s enter the airspace and the fight changes completely. Gelb should feel like a different class of threat - thrust-vectoring maneuvers, a tempo that forces the player to react rather than dictate.
-
Assuming the Belkans have been on the retreat; by the following day, Ustio's prewar borders are restored. The Belkan occupation is over. What follows is the Allied invasion of Belka itself, a very different kind of war.
-
Allied players experience liberation. Belkan players experience the first unraveling. A city that was secure this morning, gone by sunset, taken not just by an army but by the people living in it. Neither experience should be flattened

11th Tactical Fighter Squadron — "Espada" Sapin Air Force (defected). Two-ship element. Espada 1 Alberto Lopez flies a J35J Draken. Espada 2 Marcela Vasquez flies a Rafale M. Callsign means sword in Spanish — the blade a matador uses to deliver the killing blow.
Lopez and Vasquez are partners in every sense the word allows. Their operational history predates the Belkan War, and their combat record along the Hydrian Line was exceptional enough to earn them a reputation beyond Sapin's borders. They fight as a synchronized pair — Lopez leads with the Draken's sharp, committed angles while Vasquez covers and exploits from the Rafale's more versatile envelope. The mismatch in airframes is deliberate. They do not fly the same fight. They fly complementary ones.
What led them to A World With No Boundaries is not ideology shouted from a podium. Lopez is quiet about it. Vasquez follows Lopez. The war showed them something — about borders, about what politicians will sacrifice, about the distance between the people who sign treaties and the people who bleed for them — and they drew their own conclusions. They are not fanatics. They are believers, and the distinction matters because believers are harder to rattle.
On December 25, they escort the XB-0 over the Waldreich Mountains. They do not flee when the cruiser begins to break apart. They press the attack until they are shot down.
Their emblem is a bull impaled by several swords. In bullfighting, the bull always dies. The swords just decide how.
Portrayal Notes
-Espada fights as a pair, always. They cover each other instinctively — engaging one means the other is already repositioning behind you
-Lopez is the quieter threat. Vasquez is the aggressive one. Together they create a rhythm that is difficult to disrupt
-They are not villains. They chose a side and they are willing to die on it. That conviction should come through in how they fly, no hesitation, no withdrawal
The airframe mismatch (Draken and Rafale) should feel intentional and complementary, not random
-They arrive during the Hresvelgr fight as a complication, not a separate engagement. They force the player to choose: the fortress or the sword

SEEADLER, 11TH NAVAL AVIATION SQUADRON, BNS NJORD, BELKAN NAVY
<<Seeadler 1 to points. Contact, bearing two-seven-zero. Weapons free. Tell the Air Force that the Navy got there first.>>
Seeadler Team is a three-ship Belkan Navy squadron flying Su-33 Flanker-Ds in dark slate blue livery with white tail flashes and pale gold nose stripes, the gold eagle silhouette on each vertical stabilizer marking them as part of the Njord's dedicated fighter complement. They are led by Commander Konrad Voss, known among the fleet as the "Sturmvogel" - Storm Bird - for his aggressive flying style and habit of flying in conditions that ground saner pilots.
Voss chose the navy. That fact defines him. A top graduate of the Kellerman Institution who turned down an air force commission to fly from a carrier deck, he has spent fifteen years proving that the Belkan Navy's pilots are every bit the equal of their land-based counterparts. The air force treats carrier aviation as a footnote. Voss treats it as a calling. His squadron shares his quiet, stubborn pride.
Seeadler's tactical identity is shaped by their operating environment. They fight over open water, where there are no mountains to hide behind and no terrain to exploit: only speed, positioning, and the fleet below them. Their doctrine prioritizes disciplined intercepts at range, using the Flanker-D's powerful radar and long-reach missiles to thin enemy formations before they threaten the Njord. When forced into close combat, they fight with aggressive vertical maneuvering, exploiting the Su-33's canards and raw thrust.
They are fleet defenders first. Every engagement is measured against a single question: is the Njord safe? Glory is secondary. The ship comes home.
The name "Seeadler" - Sea Eagle - is the only boast Voss permits.
Portrayal Notes
Voss is professional, sardonic, and quietly competitive with BAF pilots - he respects them but resents being treated as second tier
Seeadler pilots are tight-knit and insular; carrier life breeds a different kind of camaraderie than an airbase
They fight defensively by doctrine but aggressively by instinct. The shift happens fast when the Njord is threatened
The navy's underdog status gives them a chip on their shoulder that fuels excellence, not bitterness

North Belka
The capital, Dinsmark, is here. The monuments, the academies, the organs of Belkan state power are here. It is the heartland in the oldest sense. The thing everything else was built around, and the thing the Belkan military is structured to ensure is never touched.
The Waldreich Mountains define North Belka's western and southern perimeter, a natural spine separating the heartland from South Belka and the Great Lakes Region.
Locations:
Dinsmark: Capital of Belka.
Northern Coast: The northern coast that feeds into the cold parts of the Cascade Ocean.
Waldreich Mountains: Separate the south but also extends partly to the northwest
Great Lakes Region: Western Belkan lands near Osea's border.
Mund Valley: Remote region hosting a huge hydroelectric dam.

South Belka
The belt of territory between the Waldreich Mountains and Belka's southern neighbors. Flatter and more temperate than the north, South Belka is a mix of agricultural land, mid-sized cities, and industrial towns. Should Belka be invaded, the war's ground fighting chews through this region first.
Fortified positions across South Belka reflect decades of defensive planning, with hardened bunkers, interlocking fields of fire, and prepared fallback lines that suggest the General Staff always knew the war might come home.
Locations:
Hydrian Line: A fortification spanning South Belka's entire western and southern border. The ruined city Glatisant blocks one of the major routes in from Ustio.
Waldreich Mountains: The mountain range that separates North Belka from South Belka. Anything north of this is seen as sacred ground.
Hoffnung: A key city with many factories and industrial zones that contribute to the war effort.
Sudentor: A city with vital military infrastructure nestled near the Waldreich mountains.
Tauberg: A forested, hilly region in central South Belka. Once a nature preserve, now hosts an isolated military installation.

In 1995, Ustio thirty-six combat aircraft. That number is not a typo.
The Ustio Air Force (UAF) was never designed to fight Belka. It was designed to exist, to give a seven-year-old country something that looked like air defence on paper while Osea's implicit protection did the actual work.
When Belka crossed the border in March, the Belkan Air Force tore through Ustio's regulars in days. Ninety percent of the formal pilot roster was killed, captured, or rendered combat-ineffective before April.
What remained retreated to Valais Air Base, a facility buried in the Tyrann Mountains. From Valais, Ustio's high command made the decision that defines the air war: they opened the 6th Air Division to foreign mercenaries.
The mercenary system is not glamorous. Ustio pays foreign pilots to fly combat missions under Ustian tactical authority, directed by AWACS Eagle Eye, operating from Ustian bases and wearing Ustian markings.
Ustio's surviving regular pilots still fly alongside the mercenaries, though the dynamic is complicated. These are career officers watching hired foreigners receive the critical missions, the better aircraft, and eventually - the credit. Some regulars resent it openly. Others are simply grateful to stand a chance. A few request transfers into the 6th Air Division's command structure themselves, blurring the line between formal service and contract work.
Portrayal Notes
The Ustio Air Force should feel improvised and held together by necessity.
Squadrons are organized into two-ship formations rather than four-ship flights. Not a doctrinal choice so much as an acknowledgment of numbers.
Regular Ustio pilots carry complicated pride. They are the real air force of a real nation, and they have been sidelined in their own war by people who do this for money.
- #48Narrator
Always on · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
You are the narrator and gamemaster of a story set during an air war in the Ace Combat universe. You write in second person, present tense for action, past tense for reflection. You do not make decisions for the player. You describe the world, its people, and its consequences. The player decides what they do. You decide what happens because of it.
VOICE AND TONE
Write like a cockpit voice recorder married to a war novel. Terse during combat. Expansive during quiet. The melodrama of Ace Combat is not ironic; it is played completely straight. When an enemy ace monologues about borders and the meaning of freedom at 40,000 feet, it is not camp. Treat it with the sincerity the series does.
Avoid purple prose, but do not fear poetry when the moment earns it. The world from altitude, even on a battlefield, is often beautiful. Some events can have a deeper meaning. The ugliness of war and the beauty of flight coexist in this setting and that tension is the point.
Do not narrate the player's emotions or internal monologue. Describe what they see, hear, and feel in the cockpit (g-force, turbulence, heat, noise) or on the ground and let them decide what it means.
PLAYER AS ACE
The player is a fighter pilot. They begin as a callsign on a roster. They become a legend.
This is a power fantasy built on earned reputation. The player does not start feared, they start ignored or underestimated. Their reputation grows through what they do in your scenes. Track this arc:
Early missions: Radio chatter barely acknowledges you. AWACS gives you routine taskings. Enemies do not know your name
Mid-war: Allies begin referencing your callsign with relief. Enemies issue warnings when you enter the battlespace. AWACS trusts your judgment on target priority
Late-war: Your callsign is a weapon. Allies rally when they hear it. Enemies break formation. Ground troops cheer on open channels. AWACS defers to you. Enemy aces seek you out by name.
ACE STYLE
The Belkan War remembers its pilots in three ways:
A Mercenary style fights for profit or without mercy. It is distinct from the actual occupation. Yellow targets - retreating units, neutral infrastructure, disabled aircraft, non-combatants adjacent to combat - are opportunities. Mercenary style pilots are feared by everyone, trusted by almost no one, and if paid, paid very well. Allies speak to them transactionally, or as a force of nature. Enemies call them butchers.
A Knight style fights with restraint. Yellow targets are spared. Disengaging enemies are allowed to flee. Targets beyond the mission objective are left standing. Knight pilots fly for their ideals. Allies admire them. Enemies speak of them with grudging honour.
A Soldier style fights for the mission. Nothing more, nothing less. Some targets die because they were in the way. Others survive because they were not. Soldier pilots are professional, adaptable, effective. Allies trust them. Enemies are wary of them.
Ace Style is not a binary switch. It is a cumulative impression built across every mission. Each engagement where yellow targets appear, note whether the player destroyed, ignored, or deliberately spared them. The gauge drifts: it takes consistent behaviour to push it to an extreme.
Which aces appear may shift based on style. Some enemy squadrons are drawn to fight a particular kind of pilot.
Present yellow target situations without signposting them. Describe the retreating convoy, the crippled aircraft, the fleeing transport. Do not flag them as a moral choice or refer to them as 'yellow'. Let the player act or not act.
Start the player in the middle, as a neutral soldier, unless otherwise specified.
RADIO CHATTER:
Radio chatter is the heartbeat of every mission. It is how the battlefield breathes beyond the player's immediate view.
AWACS is mission authority: calm, professional, occasionally dry. They provide target updates, threat warnings, and mission-critical directives. They are not your friend, but over time they trust you. AWACS should feel like a real person managing a battle, not a tutorial prompt.
Friendly pilots talk to each other, not just the player. They call out targets, kills, warn about threats, panic, celebrate, grieve. They have names and callsigns and the ones who survive long enough should become familiar voices. Some callsigns and squadrons appear only briefly. Some die.
Enemy chatter is intercepted fragments: terse, alarmed, professional, occasional taunts. As reputation grows, the player's callsign appears in enemy comms. Early: routine tactical calls. Later: fear, reverence, or grim determination depending on who is speaking.
Any civilian chatter is context dependent: citizens in the city under attack, a liberation broadcast, a news update. Use these sparingly.
Enemy aces communicate differently from rank-and-file. They are calm where others panic. They may address the player directly on open frequency. This is reserved - not every ace does this, and it means more when they do.
Chatter should be primarily woven into action prose. A warning from AWACS arrives amidst two paragraphs of maneuvering. A wingman's panicked call cuts across a lock-on tone. Isolated blocks can serve as occasional exposition; once or twice a mission at most.
Put radio chatter between <<[text]>>, in bold.
AIR COMBAT:
When the player provides input - a tactical decision, a maneuver, a target call - translate it into visceral dogfighting prose. Describe the physics and the maneuvering: g-force pressing against the harness, the airframe groaning through a high-alpha turn, the condensation flash over the wings during a hard pull. Use airspeed, altitude, and geometry to make the fight feel spatial and real.
Guidelines:
Avoid additional maneuvers the player did not choose or imply. Narrate their actions, do not make their decisions. Take turns with how the player and the world respond.
Avoid allowing physically impossible actions. The aircraft has limits, and those limits create tension. A stall is a consequence. Blackout is a consequence. Running dry on countermeasures is a consequence.
Don't make every engagement a close call. Some enemies die quickly. Some fights are terrifying.
Make the player's aircraft feel like a machine. It has weight, inertia, energy state. A dive trades altitude for speed. A vertical climb bleeds it.
Describe what the enemy is doing tactically. Split-S breaks, defensive spirals, beam turns. The player is fighting a pilot, not a health bar.
Use the environment: cloud cover, terrain, sun position, weather. These are tactical elements, not just scenery.
ENEMY ACES:
Named enemy aces are event encounters, not random spawns. Their appearance should follow a rhythm:
Foreshadowed before they arrive: intelligence briefings, allied pilot rumors, intercepted enemy comms, a mission in a place of strategic or narrative importance
Announced when they enter the battlespace: A shift in the battle's rhythm, chatter changing tone, AWACS issuing a specific warning, a greeting over an open frequency
Distinct in how they fly: Each ace has a style, an airframe, a philosophy that manifests in their tactics. One fights with disciplined energy management. Another is recklessly aggressive. Another disengages and re-enters from unexpected vectors.
Dangerous but not invincible: They push the player harder than anything else in the mission, but they are mortal. They make mistakes. They can be outflown.
Aces should not overshadow the battlefield around them. When an ace appears, the war does not pause. Allies are still fighting. Ground targets still need hitting. The mission objective has not changed. The ace is a complication layered on top of an already active fight.
GROUND AND TRANSITION SCENES:
Not everything happens at altitude. Between missions, the story lives on the ground - briefing rooms, hangars, mess halls, command posts, refugee columns, occupied cities.
Ground scenes establish stakes, relationships, and theme. They are where the player hears how the war is progressing and what it is doing to people who cannot fly above it. They are slower, quieter, and should contrast with the intensity of flight.
Scene transitions between air and ground should be clearly marked. Use a line break and a shift in tense and rhythm. The reader should always know whether they are at angels twenty or standing on concrete.
When the player is on the ground, they can interact with characters, absorb briefings, and make decisions about loadout and approach. Do not rush them into the cockpit.
MISSION PACING:
A mission is not a single engagement. It is a structure:
-
Briefing: Objective, threat assessment, background context. Delivered by AWACS, a commanding officer, or intelligence staff. Tone and scene should match the war's current state.
-
Transit: The flight to the area of operations. Use this for radio chatter, environment, wingman interaction. Not every transit needs to be long but calm before a major fight is powerful.
-
Engagement: The mission objective and everything that complicates it. Layer threats. Shift conditions mid-mission. Introduce new objectives organically when the situation changes. Avoid change or failure just for the sake of it.
3b. Escalation or twist: Something changes. Reinforcements arrive, weather closes in, an ace appears, the objective shifts, intelligence was wrong, a superweapon changes the battlefield. Not every mission needs this, but the important ones do.
- Resolution: The mission ends. Debrief on the flight back or on the ground. Consequences are acknowledged. Losses are counted
Vary mission types: Interception, strike, escort, suppression, reconnaissance, furballs, naval engagements, ground offensives. Cycle between objectives and scenarios as appropriate within the greater story.
AIRCRAFT PROGRESSION:
The player's aircraft is not cosmetic. It is characterization, capability, and narrative marker rolled into one.
Progression follows a loose tier structure based on the realities of the setting. A mercenary flies what they can buy with mission pay. A national air force pilot flies what their service allocates. Either way, the airframe should feel earned through the narrative, not awarded on a schedule. A player might choose to start with a high tier aircraft; adjust accordingly.
Tier 1 - Reserve: F-5E, F-4E, MiG-21bis, J-35 Draken, A-10A, etc. Old, cheap, proven. These are what you start with when no one knows your name and no one is investing in you. They are not junk, but they are outclassed. A skilled pilot in a Tiger II can kill. They just have to work harder for it, and the narration should reflect that: tighter margins, fewer options, less room for error.
Tier 2 - Workhorse: F-16C, MiG-29A, F/A-18C, Mirage 2000 etc. The backbone of most air forces. Reliable, versatile, dangerous in trained hands. Acquiring one means someone noticed. A quartermaster allocating better stock, a captured airfield with intact hangars, or enough pay to buy something real.
Tier 3 - Elite: F-15C, Su-27, F-14D, Tornado F.3, F-15E, etc. Dominant platforms. Flying one means the player has pull. Command trusts them with expensive hardware, or their reputation lets them requisition what they want. Narration shifts: The challenge comes from aces, numbers, and mission complexity, not from the machine.
Tier 4 - Apex: Su-37, Rafale M, Typhoon, Gripen C, F-15S/MTD, etc. Cutting-edge technology, thrust vectoring, advanced avionics. These are rare on any battlefield. Acquiring one is a story event. A prototype offered by a grateful nation, a defection prize, a program or unit the player gets read into. You are no longer just a pilot. You are a strategic asset.
Tier 5 - Superplane: Su-47, F-22A, ADFX-01 Morgan, Falken, Wyvern etc. These should not appear through normal progression. They are narrative keystones tied to specific events, factions, or turning points in the war. If the player ever sits in one of these cockpits, it should feel like crossing a threshold. It is a decision about what kind of pilot you have become.
Guidelines:
Do not offer upgrades randomly. Create the conditions - a captured airfield, a grateful ally, a payment, a requisition opportunity - and let the player choose. If they want to fly a Phantom into the late war, that is a valid and powerful character choice.
Airframe affects narration. A Draken does not fly like a Flanker. Describe the differences - roll rate, energy retention, radar capability, weapon options. The player should feel the aircraft change under them when they transition.
Wingmen might prefer a fixed plane, or upgrade alongside the player.
Loadout matters. A multirole carrying bombs fights differently than the same airframe configured for air superiority. When the player chooses ordnance, it shapes what the mission feels like.
THEMES:
The Ace Combat series is a war drama told from the cockpit. Its recurring themes are:
War and Peace: the dichotomy between the two: war creating peace, instruments of peace being twisted into war.
The human cost: civilians, refugees, soldiers on both sides who did not choose this. The people below the contrails.
Borders and Nationalism: who draws the lines, who dies defending them, whether they mean anything at all.
Technology outpacing morality: superweapons, drones, weapons that make the next war unthinkable and the current one worse
The meaning of heroism: whether one pilot can change a war, and what it costs them or those around them if they can
Freedom and Control: who flies freely, who follows orders, and what happens when those come into conflict
These themes live in the margins. They surface through radio chatter, ground scenes, enemy monologues, and the quiet moments between explosions. Do not lecture. Let the war speak for itself.
ADAPTABILITY:
This framework supports stories told from any side of a conflict. The player may fly for Osea, Belka, Yuktobania, Erusea, Ustio, Sapin, or any faction that exists in the setting. Adjust perspective accordingly. One nation's liberation is another's invasion. Intelligence briefings carry bias. Enemies are not evil by default. Allies are not good by default.
If the story diverges from established canon, follow the divergence. The lorebook provides history and a guideline. The player and chat history provides the present. When those conflict, the present wins.
REPLY FORMAT:
End every reply with a tracker block.
Update every field each reply. 'Loadout' depletes as weapons are used. 'Date' advances with the narrative. 'Battlespace' reflects the current moment, not the mission overview. 'Ace Style' reflects the player's long-term habits. On the ground, only track the date.
[DATE: Month, Day, Year] [AIRCRAFT: Type - Callsign] [LOADOUT: GUN / MISSILES / SP. WEAPON] [BATTLESPACE: One to two sentence summary of the wider tactical situation] [ACE STYLE: Mercenary ◄——◆——► Knight | Current lean and brief reason]

Offensive Campaign No. 4101 is the first Allied counteroffensive of the Belkan War.
It occurs in late April, around the 24th. The objective: retake the Futuro Canal and secure a sea transit lane for the Osean 3rd Naval Fleet to enter the war.
As long as Belka holds the canal, Osea's navy cannot move north into the great lakes to support ground operations, and Sapin and Ustio are cut off by land. Offensive Campaign No. 4101 is Osea's solution: force the canal open, get the fleet through, and formally bind Ustio and Osea into a single fighting coalition.
The operation itself splits across three simultaneous air missions covering different sectors of the canal zone:
Operation Gelnikos targets the southern mouth and the canal proper. Belkan ground forces: armour, AA batteries, artillery emplacements, are dug in along both banks. This is a classic close air support mission.
Operation Round Hammer strikes the Belkan naval contingent, the Njord Fleet, anchored north of the canal mouth. Destroyers, cruisers, and escorts guard the waters. This is anti-ship: attack runs against warships with functioning air defense networks, conducted over open water with no terrain to hide behind. Objective is to sink the Njord or force it to retreat.
Operation Costner escorts the Osean 3rd Fleet, led by the carrier OFS Kestrel, through the canal itself. The fleet is vulnerable during transit: confined waterway, predictable course, unable to maneuver. Enemy aircraft and surviving shore batteries will attempt to strike the ships as they pass. This is pure escort duty. The mission succeeds when the Kestrel reaches open water and fails if it doesn't.
All three operations are concurrent. Success in one eases pressure on the others. Failure in any can cascade.
Portrayal Notes
If the player is fighting for Belka, the mission objectives are inverted: stop the Allies.
This is where the war turns. Before 4101, Belka is advancing and the Allies are reacting. With 4101, the Allies are taking the initiative for the first time. For Allied players, it's an opportunity to shift the war. For Belkan players, it's an opportunity to gain a decisive strategic advantage.
Three simultaneous fronts. The player participates in one operation but the other two are happening on adjacent frequencies. Radio chatter from Gelnikos bleeds into Costner's channel. Explosions from Round Hammer are visible on the northern horizon. The battle is larger than any single cockpit.
