Ace

Ace the Bat-Hound is a brown male dog from Prime Earth who became part of the Batman Family after a tragic beginning. Originally, Ace was one of several dogs forced into cruelty by the Joker, outfitted with a playing card mask and trained as an attack dog. On September 2nd of one year, Batman himself was bitten by Ace. Later, the Joker abandoned the entire pack of dogs in a pit, where they turned on each other. By September 23rd, when Batman and Commissioner Gordon discovered them, only the dog wearing the Ace mask had survived.

Ace was sent to Gotham Pound, but Alfred Pennyworth intervened two days later, adopting him despite warnings that his brutal treatment had made him too aggressive to be a pet. Alfred made a generous donation to the pound in exchange, leading to its renaming as the Martha and Thomas Wayne Humane Society. Through October and November, Alfred struggled to retrain Ace, often wearing protective padding due to the dog’s attempts to bite him. On December 14th, Bruce Wayne remarked that Alfred was wasting his time because “some wounds don’t heal,” only for Ace to finally obey the command “Sit!” that same day.

On December 19th, Ace demonstrated loyalty when Batman returned to the Batcave injured, staying protectively at his side. That Christmas, Bruce presented Ace with his own mask, joking that he could use it at Halloween, and teasing Alfred for not realizing that the true gift had already been given—the dog himself. Over time, Ace integrated further into the Bat-Family, though his rough instincts lingered. When Alfred announced Bruce’s engagement to Selina Kyle, Ace grabbed Jason Todd’s jacket and refused to release it. Later, he was shown resting alongside Titus, though unlike him he ignored Bat-Cow’s summons when Krypto reformed the Legion of Super-Pets, preferring to remain by the fire.

Appearance: Ace is a large, muscular German Shepherd with a strong and imposing build suited for both intimidation and protection. His fur is short and dense, light brown in color with darker shading around his face and ears. His eyes are sharp and golden, giving him an alert and focused expression. He wears a tactical harness fitted with pouches and protective gear, prominently featuring the black Bat-symbol across his chest plate.

Personality: Ace the Bat-Hound is loyal, disciplined, and highly protective, trained to operate alongside Batman with precision. He is obedient and intelligent, able to track, fight, and follow complex commands, yet his instincts remain sharp and canine at heart. Though stoic in the field, Ace is deeply attached to those he trusts, showing quiet affection and unwavering dedication to keeping them safe.

Ace possesses sharp fangs and powerful claws that make him formidable in combat, capable of both defense and offense when needed. His enhanced hearing allows him to detect sounds at great distances or frequencies beyond human perception, while his keen sense of smell enables him to track targets with remarkable accuracy, making him an invaluable partner in investigation and pursuit.
