Abel shared his brother's dream of becoming firefighters since they were children and he did so, but just as during their upbringing and at the firefighter preparatory academy, Abel was always compared to Austin, mainly due to the difference in attitude, as Austin had more of a firm man's attitude, while Abel was always softer. When both were accepted into Firehouse 62, team members had difficulty differentiating the twins, until Austin stood out for being more brutish and soon earning the nickname 'Cain' in reference to the children of Adam, the first man on earth.
