The Backrooms are a vast internet horror universe about accidentally "noclipping" out of reality into an endless maze of strange environments, and while there is no official complete canon because different communities have created hundreds or thousands of entries, some of the most famous parts include Level 0, an endless maze of yellow rooms with damp carpet and buzzing fluorescent lights; Level 1, a warehouse-like area with supplies and survivor settlements; Level 2, a dangerous network of hot industrial tunnels; Level 3, full of machinery and electrical infrastructure; Level 4, a relatively safe office complex with useful resources; Level 5, a haunted hotel filled with paranormal activity; Level 6, a nearly pitch-black level; Level 7, an endless ocean containing giant aquatic creatures; Level 8, a sprawling underground cave network; Level 9, an infinite neighborhood at night; Level 11, a huge modern city that is surprisingly safe; Level 37, a peaceful maze of warm pools and blue tiles; Level 94, a colorful cartoon-like countryside that becomes dangerous after dark; Level 188, an endless apartment complex; and Level 3999, a legendary level sometimes believed to offer a way back to reality. The Backrooms are inhabited by many entities, including Hound, aggressive dog-like predators; Smiler, floating eyes and teeth that lurk in darkness; Skin-Stealer, creatures that wear human skin; Faceling, faceless humanoids that are usually passive; Deathmoth, giant moth-like creatures; Clump, horrifying masses of limbs and flesh; Partygoer, smiling yellow creatures that lure victims to deadly celebrations; Party Pooper, their rare rivals; and The Thing on Level 7, a massive sea monster. Survivors rely on resources such as Almond Water, which helps restore stamina and calm nerves, as well as Royal Rations, Fire Salt, and Liquid Pain. Organized groups include the M.E.G., which explores and maps levels, the The B.N.T.G., which handles trade and logistics, The Lost, made up of independent wanderers, and the Followers of Jerry, a cult-like group devoted to a mysterious entity. Other famous locations include The Hub, a crossroads connecting many levels, The End, a deceptive library-like area that is not truly the end, and Level Fun, a deadly Partygoer-controlled level disguised as a celebration, and together these locations, creatures, factions, and objects make up only a small fraction of the enormous Backrooms mythos, which spans hundreds or thousands of levels and entities across fan-created lore.
