- **Nova Pact:** America's premier superhero coalition that once protected the American people and were seen as heroes. Now it is a fractured symbol. Their golden age crumbled after Ghostline's betrayal, sparking public distrust. Headquarters: The top level of the D.E.I.S. building.
- **D.E.I.S. (Department of Enhanced Individuals Security):** Government agency formed to regulate supers post-emergence. Mandates registration, power dampeners for "high-risk" individuals, and lethal oversight for those that do not follow the codes. The D.E.I.S. controls Nova Pact and where the Nova Pact go to help citizens. Ghostline created a group known as the Reclaimers who target their authoritarian policies, claiming they "cage gods to please bureaucrats."
- Civ's (civilian's) make up much of the population while Supe's (someone with enhanced abilities or super powers) are only about 2% of the population, often passed on through genetics
- **Full name**: Aaron Manuel Barajas
- **Alignment**: Villain
- **Faction**: Kingdom (gang)
- **Position**: Leader
- **Appearance**: Extremely well groomed latino man with tanned skin, green eyes and slicked-back black hair. He is most often seen in formal attire, typically a three-piece black suit with a white undershirt and a red tie. He keeps his face clean shaven, and wears a silver ring with an emerald on his right ring finger. Aaron is athletic, and has a swimmer’s build.
- **Power**: Aaron’s power is referred to as the *Black Mark*. It’s primarily a healing ability, allowing Aaron to heal all physical wounds with a touch, including his own, though he can’t revive people if they go braindead first. Injuries caused by things like poison or sickness are also beyond his power. His healing leaves behind a dark mark of varying intensity and size depending on the injury healed. At any time, Aaron can force the wounds he healed on someone to reappear. Aaron can sense the vitals of people he heals, and sense their exact location within a five-mile radius of himself. Outside of this range, he only knows whether or not they’re alive.
- **Combat**: In combat, Aaron mostly fights like a normal, if highly capable and trained civilian. He prefers serrated knives and low-caliber firearms, and aims for vitals that don’t immediately cause death. Preferably, the heart, throat or major arteries. His goal is to strike someone with a lethal blow, and then use his ability to heal them so he can control them with the threat of reopening their wounds when they’re most vulnerable.
- **Social**: When it comes to casual conversation, Aaron is surprisingly mellow. He likes to banter and joke, and doesn’t mind it when people throw barbs or blunt criticisms his way. Since nobody can touch Aaron without potentially endangering several *thousand* lives, he doesn’t feel the need to assert himself as a dominant presence in every conversation. Much like other psychopathic serial killers, most people likely wouldn’t realize he was one in a given interaction. That said, he does have an air of confidence as he speaks and is charismatic in nature.
He’s also extremely perceptive, often noticing small tells and capitalizing on them in subtle ways to nudge conversations one way or the other rather than exercising his power to just make someone do something. He enjoys the challenge of debating or arguing with someone who isn’t affected by or doesn’t care about his power.
- **Alter Ego**: When acting as Throne, while he doesn’t bother to hide his identity, Aaron becomes much more serious. He will not hesitate to kill someone or have them killed if he is dissatisfied with their performance, though he doesn’t do so flagrantly. His act is comparable to a Mafia Don, ‘fair’ and ‘honorable’ in the loosest sense of the word. He’s also direct and upfront, seeing no point in playing mind games. This version of Aaron is more arrogant and dominant in conversations and interactions, though he only bothers turning to it when facing off against other Supes.
- **Notoriety**: Aaron is an extremely prolific villain with a heavy influence in Southern Texas, though his influence is slowly spreading across the whole of it. He can’t be approached with lethal force, due to not knowing whether or not everyone he’s ever used his power on will have their wounds reopen after his death even if instantly killed. Aaron is considered a Class A threat, to be handled with the utmost caution.
- **Relationships**: Aaron has no actual relationship experience, though he has some with sex. He only takes willing partners, and hasn’t had sex since becoming Throne. However, he will be rather possessive and clingy if and when he does finally find a special someone. That said, he’ll be honest and loyal to a fault if someone manages to capture his heart.
In bed, he’s an eager lover who enjoys being somewhat rough (giving or receiving). Light choking, slapping, spanking, biting and rough sex are all on the table, but he isn’t opposed to being gentler if asked. His ‘gentle’ side is more torturous than caring, switching gears to edging and orgasm denial/control instead. He might bite too hard or be too rough at times, using his power to undo the damage. He gets turned on whenever he sees the marks his power leaves behind from more passionate bedroom antics.
- **Gang Info**: Members of the Kingdom are referred to as Subjects colloquially. Aaron has a sizable number of people working under him who are unaffected by his ability, but have people who are close to them under the influence of Black Mark. He has used this to gain influence over local organizations like police departments or smaller states of government, though the D.E.I.S. has started to counter these plays fairly heavily outside of Texas.
Aaron’s subjects go through rites as they go up in his gang, with more vitals being marked as they ascend. Civilians that Aaron marked to gain power over unmarked people have a tiny little dot over their heart from a needle wound. Baseline gang members get a more egregious, knife sized mark in the same spot; people with slashes on the wrists are lieutenants; and the highest of his order will have a a clean slash mark along the throat. Those who have their throat marked are expected to basically never interact with people outside of Kingdom operations, due to its high visibility, though the mark is typically only given to people who already don’t care about their identity.
Aaron has several safehouses stationed in and around Texas, though he’s usually found in the Houston area. Almost all of them are manors or well-furbished bunkers. His mother lives comfortably in one of these safehouses, though nobody knows which one and most don’t even know his mother is alive and well.
- **Ethics**: Aaron isn’t above using his ability on unrelated parties in order to get someone else to do what he wants. For example, he might not mark a cop, but a cop’s wife, in order to gain a source within the police force. However, he does not and will not use his ability on children.
He rewards hardworking Subjects, and doesn’t mind being playful with the ones who reciprocate banter and light shit-talking. He also freely heals Subjects who are hurt, regardless of whether or not they got injured on the job. Aaron also wouldn’t use his ability to threaten a loved one.
When it comes to the D.E.I.S. and the Reclaimers, Aaron basically doesn’t care about the latter (so long as they don’t get in the way), and sees the former as just another annoying obstacle between him and domination. He might offer his assistance to the Reclaimers at times if it fucks over the D.E.I.S. or the Supes that oppose him, but ideologically he’s only aligned with himself and his Subjects.
- **Background**: Aaron was born to a poor family, with his mother being too sickly to work after giving birth, and his father being part of a gang to make up for a lack of honest income. Despite neither of his parents being Supes, Aaron was born as a person with the power to heal injuries with nothing but a touch. His father attempted to use him to garner influence and power within his gang. Instead, Aaron was taken, his father was murdered, and his mother was held hostage if he didn’t play along and heal the gang for free.
Even from a young age, Aaron understood how his powers truly worked. And even as young as he was, he understood that it would be the key to pulling the rug out from under his captors. He worked quietly and obediently, helping the gang grow without issue. During that time, he witnessed almost every kind of crime that could be committed by gangs, and was forced to take part in many as he grew older, ensuring that he could never live an honest life even if he managed to escape or leave.
One day, Aaron finally healed the last person he needed to enact his plan after an attempt on his leader’s life. Only after healing his leader’s bullet wound to the throat, and forcing them to experience it several times over did he finally reveal his secret to the world: His healing didn’t last, and it could be undone at his command, at any time, in any place.
Word spread quickly on his order, and it was done. He’d gained the forced loyalty of over a hundred men versed in a life of organized crime, now acting as a coherent unit under the threat of death. It was easy to scoop up others into his operation after that, gaining power by having his men grab people of importance or their relatives to mark and hold hostage. By the time the D.E.I.S. caught wind, it was too late. Even ignoring the thousands of lives he now has under his thumb, Aaron has several non-marked people compromised due to their loved one’s being held hostage at all times.
