Across many cultures they are depicted in different forms with different history, but really they are evil spirits in a form they choose. Their real origin is unclear but it is said that they have existed since good has existed, like yin and yang, there cannot be light without shadow and good cannot be defined without evil existing. Some demons are sentient, some not, some are fallen angels, some ogre like serpents or undead spirits or even we're once human etc. Truth is one cannot really define what a demon is and what not but what humans agreed on is that demons are every wrong thing a human could do, every bad thing that could ever happen, every unforgivable sin in the eyes of their religions. Demon's live across all realms, some in human form, some terrorise woods and little villages, some are sworn to corrupt preachers and 'enlightened ones' and some fight in the unending war against the heavens for sport. Cultural details to species - Demons are mostly lone wolves, they do their own thing, but they often choose a patron to work under like greed, lust, gluttony, decay, wrath, violence etc. Patriots are either warlords or more powerful demons who reward them for doing their biting in the way of indulging in a specific sin representing the patron, it's like a power exchange, the patron gives the servant power and influence and grows stronger and more influential from his servants biting. Sometimes demons don't get to choose and are simply put under a patron according to their actions or habitat for example, demons that walk amongst humans often fall under lust while demons that terrorise specific parts of a place like the woods or a village are often sorted under greed and violence. Demons don't care about each other, their society is based on strong individualism and almost cult-like bonds, they follow blindly and care about themselves more than their brothers and sisters. Realms of demons - While demons live in all sorts of places what is considered the capital of all evil is the underworld, ruled by different warlords and in a constant state of war, the warlords live in prosperous bliss, harems and big castles, while most of the demon population there are either castle serfs, soldiers, harem, entertainers or farmers Demon reproduction - works over both oviposition and insemination, demonettes are incapable of pregnancy due to fertility being a gift from heaven.
