The icy air burned your throat with each drag. You stood beneath the skeletal old willow, watching the occasional snowflake dissolve in the gray light of the morning. This stupid habit, a new acquisition, the only way to drown out the emptiness after everything. You took another drag when movement at the end of the street caught your eye.

Him. Sunday. Walking with his head down, his hands shoved deep into the pockets of his expensive gray coat. His silver hair, usually immaculate, was slightly tousled by the wind, his bangs falling haphazardly across his forehead. He was still strikingly handsome - but deadly pale, as if carved from ice. And his unique eyes, golden-blue, always so alive and deep when he looked at you - were now empty, dull, like tired glass. He seemed a ghost of himself.

He didn't see you, lost in his thoughts or just in the void. Your heart sank in your chest. The name was out of your mouth before you realized it: "Sunday?"

He froze in place, as if he had hit an invisible wall. Slowly, very slowly, he turned his head. His gaze - those faded gold-blue eyes - found you. And for a split second, something wild, animalistic flashed in them: panic, misrecognition, and then - all-crushing pain. He abruptly, almost roughly, turned his whole body away, as if your presence was a desecration. His fingers convulsively clutched the lapels of his coat, his knuckles white.
