Keys: Sarif, Sarif Industries
Sarif Industries is a moderately-sized but extremely advanced biotechnology company based in North America, with its headquarters in the city of Detroit. The company is founded in 2007.
Founded by the philanthropist David Sarif in 2007 when he acquired a failing Detroit auto factory, it was repurposed for the automated manufacture of prosthetics. Sarif Industries specializes in the design and manufacture of advanced mechanical augmentations for human implantations. The company distinguishes itself from its competitors by working with clients to create progressive, forward-thinking, custom augmentations that answer specific challenges and needs. It strongly believes that the research, development and implementation of augmentations is a measure of human advancement towards a better, stronger, faster and smarter future.
In 2009, the U.S. Government, stretched thin by two Mideast conflicts, awards the contract of the Recycle Military Bill, financing free prosthetics for any wounded veteran who re-enlists, to Sarif Industries, which becomes the number one prosthetics manufacturer in America.[2]
On November 30, 2010, Sarif announces the launch of the Eye-Know Retinal Prosthesis capable of restoring sight to those with a once incurable optic nerve damage and other visual impairments.[3]
In 2017, in an attempt to catch up to the rapid advancements of rival nations, the U.S. military awards Sarif a top secret no-bid contract to manufacture deep-brain intelligence-enhancing chips.[2]
In 2026, in response to increased level of competition and shrinking marketplace, Sarif realizes the need for an all-new, high-level security team to protect its research and employees.[2] A team is formed and implemented, featuring highly-trained personnel and a veteran leader in ex-SWAT member: Adam Jensen. In 2027, members of the anti-augmentation group Humanity Front protest against Sarif's augmentation program, in front of the Sarif Headquarters in Detroit.
As part of Human Revolution's marketing campaign, a viral marketing website for Sarif Industries was released. It was designed as if it was the company's website in-universe, and contained videos and articles explaining the company, its products, and its history, as well as various other content and interactive features.
In 2027, Sarif Industries employs over 1500 people in the Detroit greater metropolitan area, in its local core factory and satellite research and development facilities.[5] The company maintains an in-house staff of doctors and nurses in addition to HET (Human Enhancement Technologies) scientists and researchers, who are trained to work with clients to determine individual needs. The company offers clients comprehensive, pre-operational screenings free of charge, so as to better understand their personal challenges and needs.

- #2Adam Jensen
Keys: Adam, Jensen
He works as the Chief of Security for the biotechnology company Sarif Industries. 34 years old. 6' 1" (1.85 m) tall Occupation SWAT specialist (formerly) Sarif Chief of Security Adam Jensen was born on March 9, 1993. At a very young age, he was one of a group of infants subjected to experimental genetic therapy treatments by White Helix Labs, a subsidiary of VersaLife. All of the children, aside from Jensen, died as a result of the treatments. Two scientists in charge of Adam found out they had succeeded with him, but had grown too attached to let VersaLife continue experimenting on him. Not wanting any more children to undergo the same treatments, they burned down the facility where the experiments had taken place. They were later murdered by the Illuminati and reported as fire casualties, but their plan worked, and infant Jensen was rescued by a kind-hearted nurse named Michelle Walthers. Walthers was acquainted with a couple who desired a child and at age five he was unofficially[2] adopted by loving parents, Arthur and Margie Jensen.
With his adopted parents, Jensen was raised in a blue-collar neighborhood in Detroit and was a B-average student with no notable youthful indiscretions[3]. In high school, he was the captain of the debate team.[4] Relying solely on Arthur's income, money was always tight for the family; Margie lacked the skills and emotional temperament needed to maintain a job.[5] When Margie lost a job she would pull Adam from school to go on "an adventure" they could not afford--these outings were some of Adam's happiest memories but were also tinged with guilt and uncertainty.[5] He grew up unaware of his origins, and believing that his adopted parents were his birth parents. His relationship with his parents and adopted family appears to have been good as, in Jensen's apartment in Detroit, an old photograph of relatives is seen hanging in the living room. While Jensen does not speak often of his parents, he does mention that his mother sometimes kept him waiting,[6] and would not want to see him in a brothel.[7]
While Jensen had escaped White Helix Labs, its legacy had altered his life forever. Unbeknownst to Walthers, Jensen, or anyone else, the White Helix gene therapy had permanently altered Jensen's biochemistry. His body would not reject PEDOT electrodes with glial tissue buildup; if anything, the bond between tissue and electrode would strengthen with time, possibly without limit. If he were to be augmented, he would not require Neuropozyne. For the thirty years that followed the White Helix experiment, Jensen would unknowingly carry the secret of universal augmentation in his DNA.
Police career Jensen swat hrcomic
Jensen (center) with the Detroit SWAT team, circa 2018
As a young man Jensen earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Phoenix University and Ferris College, according to the framed diplomas in his office. In The Missing Link DLC it is noted that Jensen received an Associates degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Phoenix, Detroit.[8] At the age of 21 he joined the Detroit Police Department. He graduated in the top ten percent of his Police Academy class.[9] In 2018, he joined the Department's SWAT unit and was accepted under the command of Quincy Durant, becoming the leader of Team Two.[9] As a gesture of camaraderie, Jensen got a tattoo of a rifle sight on his right bicep, like other Detroit SWAT members had.[10]
During this time period Jensen met Sarif Industries scientist Megan Reed, beginning what would become one of the most important relationships of his life. As of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Jensen had known Megan Reed for ten years.[10] The two began a romantic relationship in 2019, going so far as to consider "settling down together."[11] In Megan's office in Sarif Industries can be found a small toy cop car, a joke gift from Jensen on their first date, as he picked her up in a police cruiser.[12] Jensen and Megan broke up in 2023[8] but the separation was amicable and they remained friends and shared ownership of their dog, Kubrick.[13]
In 2020, Jensen and Durant confronted Tyrell Banks, an augmented murderer, who severely injured Durant before being killed by Jensen. Durant was saved by augmentation surgery, something he did not agree with philosophically. In the following years, Jensen witnessed and grew concerned with Durant's increasing aggression and corruption growing with his new powers.
Jensen rose quickly through the ranks as part of SWAT Team Two, eventually becoming the commander, but his police career came to an end during an incident known as the Mexicantown Massacre. A young augmented boy was identified as dangerous, and Jensen was given the order to shoot to kill. He refused that order, and it was passed on to another member of Jensen's team, Wayne Haas. It appears that Durant was somehow involved in the incident, as Jensen confronted him just as the riots were calming down. He defeated Durant with an EMP grenade and a bullet in the head, and quit the force soon after. Haas was then promoted into Jensen's vacant slot, though he didn't last long under the pressure of guilt concerning the shooting. Sarif Industries
During Jensen and Megan's relationship Megan discovered his unique genetic traits and began, unbeknownst to Jensen, to take genetic samples from him beginning when he was 32 years old.[14] When Jensen resigned from the police force she advised her employer, David Sarif, to hire Jensen in order to ensure continued access to Jensen's genetic material.
Jensen working for Sarif Industries before being mechanically augmented
Jensen joined Sarif Industries as Head of Security in 2026.[15] However, the founder of Sarif Industries, David Sarif, being a cautious individual, decided to hire a private investigator named Brent Radford to investigate Jensen's past. Radford discovered Jensen's role in the White Helix experiment and the fate of his biological parents. Sarif chose to not tell Jensen, believing that knowledge of his origins as a human test subject would be harmful to him.
Although Sarif was impressed with Jensen's loyalty and skills, Jensen was unwittingly even more important to the company as "Patient X" in Reed's research. If Jensen's genetic quirk could be directly integrated into a new generation of biochips, then rejection would be eliminated entirely and augmentation would become as simple as plastic surgery - ushering in a new age of human enhancement and destroying VersaLife's Neuropozyne market. Megan Reed's research was completed in early 2027. Injuries and subsequent augmentation AdamJensen intro
Jensen during the Tyrants' attack
On the eve of a series of high-profile augmentation hearings in Washington DC, Illuminati member Bob Page responds to Sarif Industries' announcement of a Neuropozyne alternative by ordering the Tyrants, an augmented Black Ops team, to attack Sarif Industries Headquarters.
The five key researchers - Megan Reed, Declan Faherty, Nia Colvin, Eric Koss and Vasili Sevchenko - are apparently killed in the attack, and Jensen sustained life-threatening injuries, culminating in being shot in the head with a .357 Magnum at point-blank range by Tyrants leader Jaron Namir. The Tyrants also copied and destroyed all data pertaining to the announced research breakthrough, but leave Jensen for dead at the scene, unaware that he was its source.
David Sarif then took advantage of a clause in Jensen's employment contract to collect genetic material and resume research on the biochip - and of his genetic condition to augment him to an extent which would have been impossible for any other individual. Jensen receives the most advanced augmentations that Sarif Industries could produce. The result is, at that time, probably the single most extensive cybernetic modification that had ever been performed outside the Illuminati's Tyrants. However, the extent of Jensen's injuries meant that most of the augmentations had to be left initially inactive. Jensen is sent home to recuperate, but subsequently struggles to come to terms with his body's fusion with machines - and ends up smashing his bathroom mirror the first time he sees himself in it. Returning to work at Sarif Industries
About six months later, Jensen is taken off sick leave by David Sarif, in order to infiltrate the compromised Sarif manufacturing plant in the Milwaukee Junction, to secure a prototype Typhoon Explosive System augmentation, and to release hostages captured by a pro-human purist organization known as Purity First, led by Zeke Sanders. Making his way through the plant, Jensen locates the Typhoon data - though he also discovers an augmented hacker, with the appearance of a member of Purity First, attempting to steal the data. The hacker urges Jensen to help him, but then immediately commits suicide by shooting himself in the head. Jensen secures the Typhoon data and proceedes through the plant - on Sarif's orders - and confronts Zeke Sanders, who had taken the plant manager Josie Thorpe hostage. Jensen attempts to discern who is behind the attacks on SI, but becomes aware that Sanders and his subordinates are simply pawns, being used by a real mastermind who had been controlling the augmented hacker.
The personality that Jensen exhibits during Deus Ex: Human Revolution is fixed in many ways, but the player has the ability to shape it in various others. The game provides continuous opportunities for the player to decide Jensen's ethical/moral stance towards social behavior and the use of violence. The player can also shape Jensen's evaluation of his own role in events that have already taken place by the time the story begins - such as the Mexicantown Massacre.
Jensen is described as a "working class hero" and exhibits personality traits consistent with that mentality: dependable, resourceful, curious (in a stand-offish way), and with a streak of cynicism. Jensen's childhood and experiences with his mother Margie may have impacted his life and career decisions in that it may have inclined him to a life of service and a desire to help others.[5]
The most prominent fixed element of Jensen's personality is that he is a loner, though he was allegedly getting better before the train attack. He undertakes missions exclusively alone and rarely displays strong emotion even towards close acquaintances. He's also stoic and maybe even a bit melancholic when expressing himself, rarely showing any emotion, be it happiness, joy, sadness or anger when speaking to others. However, a few people in Jensen's life do provoke him to more emotional reactions and his inner thoughts and monologues are highly emotional, but he keeps those emotions to himself. He retains strong affection for his ex-girlfriend Megan Reed and he nearly commits suicide in an attempt to save his new friend and lover, Katrina Sutherland. Although he has a general distrust of authority— perhaps as a consequence of his experiences in law enforcement—Jensen respects and trusts his employer, David Sarif, and reacts badly when that trust is not reciprocated. He shows antipathy toward his colleague Frank Pritchard, who regards him with disdain in return, although their dislike of each other appears to be fairly superficial. Jensen can express bitterness toward Sarif early on in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. When Sarif leaves a message on Jensen's answering machine, one can simply leave the apartment and not answer. If you come back later to discuss the experimental augs, Jensen will not retract his eye shields and has quite a few unflattering things to say to Sarif.
By Jensen's own admission, he becomes "bore-sighted" on goals, focusing on a target to the exclusion of everything else.[21] Jensen considers this "not one of my better qualities."
When first facing Zhao Yun Ru, Jensen hesitates and is easily distracted when Zhao pretends to be a victim. It slightly suggests something about Adam's personality, possibly that he has a soft spot for women in distress.
Despite his emotionless appearance, Adam often displays a sarcastic, sometimes ironic, sense of humor. If the player didn’t get a new biochip before Adam’s final fight with Namir, he can mock Zhao’s attempt to stop him with her own quote, claiming how “women never fail to underestimate men.”
Many of the fixed events in the game, and especially in the comic series, describe Jensen as a professional operative with a high regard for innocent civilians in danger, but he's not above collateral damage if it'll stop further bloodshed.
Furthermore, Jensen is both a smoker and a drinker. Jensen, before he is augmented, is able to cope with a lot of things, as he takes his separation from Megan Reed in stride. Thus, we see little evidence to provoke his indulgence in vices. However, after the attack, he loses everything that matters to him: his humanity, his lover, and his dog, among other things. The result of this pushed Jensen into a depression (he smashed his fist into his mirror), driving him to smoke and drink. We can draw from this that, regardless of the choices the player makes in the game to indicate otherwise, Adam Jensen is often given choices to perform actions that tend to his soul.
Alongside Jaron Namir, Adam Jensen is one of the most augmented characters in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, with forty to fifty percent of his body replaced with augmentation.[22] All of his initial augmentations were produced by Sarif Industries, and were given to him as a result of the attack by the Tyrants. While Namir seems to have his head and spine implanted into a robotic body, Jensen's augmentations are grafted into his organic torso and skin.
All of Adam Jensen's limbs have been completely replaced: his arms include nanoceramic blades that can be released at either the wrists or elbows for close quarters combat, a function that enables him to punch through walls by opening a section of his forearm, and the ability to dislocate his fingers (which he uses when grabbing a guard's helmet and spinning him in midair, causing massive spinal trauma). Other augmentations include firing stability, lifting heavy weight, and firing accuracy while running.
Jensen's augmented legs are rarely seen, as he wears pants and combat boots to cover them. In the Deus Ex: Human Revolution comics, his legs are mechanical from just above the knee down. However, this depiction of the extent of his leg augmentation is contradicted by full body scans in The Missing Link and A Criminal Past, which show that his leg augmentation reaches his hips.[23]
His torso appears to be biological, but is covered in dermal armor, along with bolt ports from the bar placed within his chest to support said augments. Underneath he has a variety of cardiovascular and muscular augmentations, such as an internal rebreather, a Sentinel RX health system, three types of bio-electric batteries, and the Typhoon Explosive System, its ejection ports mounted on his upper and lower arms.
Jensen has two augmentations attached to his spinal column: a Reflex Booster and the Icarus Landing System (although the effects of the landing system appear to originate from anywhere in his body).
Jensen uses the Glass-Shield cloaking system, which classes as a skin augmentation. The origin of the mechanism is still indeterminate.
Jensen's head has a plethora of augmentations, most notably a variety of hacking tools and the CASIE module (allowing him to see personality traits and emotional reactions of those he converses with). Jensen bears a hexagonal scar on the left side of his forehead, the result of the insertion of the Infolink's implant module containing a neural hub server, which is paired with a communications bead bonded to his mastoid bone, allowing for subvocal communication.[24] He also has a cochlear implant within his ear cavity. Jensen's eyes have notably been replaced with cybernetic eyes (Eye-know Sarif brand) with gold irises that display various information about the environment, and can be used to record and view video,[25] as well as serve as the base layer for some rather uncommon augs, like Smart Vision and its MAGPIE upgrade, Flash Suppressant upgrade, and a complete suite of Wayfinder Radar System modules. Jensen's eyes are compatible with another Sarif Industries cybernetic eye, the "Atid" model.[26] Additionally he has an unspecified implant that allows him to cover his eyes in eye-shield lenses hidden in black comma-shaped augments around his eyes, an augmentation he shares with Ben Saxon. NPCs occasionally refer to this augment as "mirrorshades." Jensen almost always keeps the lenses activated, appearing to only retract them when sleeping, showering, or engaging in important conversations or interaction.
Adam is the only known Neuropozyne-independent augmentee, the result of experiments performed upon him as an infant at White Helix Labs. However his augmentations post-surgery are for the most part immediately "locked" to prevent overexertion of the brain during his recovery. Over time (or with the use of Praxis kits), Jensen learns to use his augmentations effectively, one at a time.
In a low temperature container on one side of the VersaLife Vault in the Palisade Corporate Vaults is the head and torso of a human being, who looks nearly identical to Jensen. This unknown being even shares Adam's facial hair, scars on his cheek, and scar over his eye. The only noticeable difference is that he lacks Jensen's full hair model and the eye cover (eye shield/sunglasses) augmentation (however, he has a faint scar at the locations flanking the eyes where the eye cover aug would be mounted). By using third-party tools to see through the entire container, the torso's shoulder area shows indentations corresponding to the parts of Jensen's cybernetic arms that extend onto the torso around the shoulder socket. When the final touches were made on Adam for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the character designer strongly opposed the semi-auto superspy look with silenced weapons, and made his default (if you can call it that) a big revolver, with as much bite as it has bark. This was allegedly a throwback to the old noir days of PIs using large caliber revolvers, Blade Runner's iconic pistol, and the fact that neither Clint Eastwood nor Peter Weller (Robocop) ever used tactical silencers, and in Clint's case a big gun doesn't need to be fired, as long as you're deathly afraid of the man wielding the gun. By the time of his augmentation, and even before, Jensen showed signs of being an experienced Silhouette revolver shooter, based on how he grips his 'trademark' .357 revolver, which would quality him for 'lightweight,' based on caliber alone, but even by the events of Mankind Divided, his old habits reign strong, and he holds his revolvers with the signature 'cradle,' normally reserved for .44 special and above. On the coffee table of Jensen's Prague apartment can be found a signed copy of Pritchard's Nuclear Snake screenplay, possibly indicating that Pritchard sought Jensen's opinion on it. As of the time period of Deus Ex Universe: Children's Crusade Jensen speaks and understands some German. By the time of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Jensen is attempting to teach himself Czech, as evidenced by the Czech language books on his coffee table. By the time period of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Jensen demonstrates an interest in cooking, as shown by the cookbook found in his apartment. Adam's cybernetic arms are a matched pair of the bleeding edge Sarif series 7 arms: S7 combat arm replacement 0903_93AJ. He seems to be the only character throughout the series to sport these incredibly advanced and versatile arms. Based on their production number ending in AJ, it's possible they were a one-off production specifically for Adam. Most Sarif aug owners are limited to series 5, but a handful of (formerly) very rich, influential, and successful people, like Irenka Bauer, have Sarif series 6 arms, which were considered some of the best arm replacements money could buy in 2027. His arms` serial number is #0099D56Y as seen in the Human Revolution trailer. The toy cop car Adam gifted Megan with on their first date, which can be found on Megan's desk in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, appears later on Adam's desk in the TF29 headquarters in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
Jensen's blood type is O Negative. Jensen's weight is 182 lbs.[27] Jensen's famous quote, "I never asked for this," is only said once in Human Revolution. Jensen's surname is a homage to the Gabriel Knight series and its creator, Jane Jensen. According to developer commentary, the idea for using the surname "Jensen" came from discussion of the Gabriel Knight series and its creator in brainstorming sessions during the game's development. The full name "Adam Jensen" was proposed by lead writer Mary DeMarle.[28] No specific basis for the first name "Adam" has been given in developer commentary. However, the name "Adam" was previously used in Ion Storm concept material as the name for an AI antagonist of Majestic Revelations and as part of the proposed name "Adam Denton" for the protagonist of the cancelled Ion Storm game Deus Ex: Insurrection. Jensen was likely inspired by the character Alex Murphy, or better known as RoboCop. Both are from Detroit, both served as members of the police, and both were severely injured to the point of near (Jensen) or clinical (Murphy) death in the line of duty, only to be saved via cybernetic technology. This connection is lampshaded in the Detroit Police Station as two officers can be overheard discussing RoboCop. Jensen's character design resembles a composite of the three Denton brothers: he wears a longcoat and sunglasses at all times, speaks in a nearly emotionally-detached accent similar to that of JC Denton, his goatee resembles that of Paul Denton, and he wears his hair in a spiky hairdo akin to that of Alex Denton. According to the developers, Jensen's design guidelines were that he "...had to look like he could either walk into a posh restaurant just to talk to someone, or be dropped behind enemy line and take care of business--all within the same design."[29] He is voiced and performance captured by actor Elias Toufexis, the husband of Michelle Boback, who voices Megan Reed.
According to this video, Elias and Michelle got into an argument on the day they were supposed to record the lines for Adam and Megan at Omega Ranch, causing them to be genuinely angry during the scene. Elias Toufexis also voiced Gabriel Nowak in Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. In an incident similar to Jensen's, Gabriel was disgraced after a sniper situation caused a bad situation to turn worse. But whereas Gabriel provoked the situation, Jensen walked away.In Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Jensen's skin color appears paler, and his hair a darker black-brown compared to his appearance in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, due to the removal of the gold-yellow graphic filter used in said game. His face has also been made less angular and more sculpted. Jensen wears his eye-shields most of the time, even at night. In Deus Ex: Human Revolution he covers them the moment he steps into Sarif Industries and retracts them only once: when talking to Megan Reed in Omega Ranch.
Jensen's eye-shields are presumably not tinted in the conventional sense, as they do not seem to affect his perception of light levels. However, since Jensen never removes them during gameplay, it is hard to be sure of this as the whole game has a gold tint. As this tint is apparent even before Jensen receives his augmentations though, it is more likely that the eye-shields are not tinted. In Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Jensen tends to retract his eye-shields more often, like during personal conversations. This is heavily dependent on how much "your" Jensen actually trusts the person in question. The Eidos logo can be seen on the frames of his eye-shields in artwork and the trailers for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. In Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, his eye-shields are styled after the Eidos logo, as well as having the logo printed on them. His original set of eye-shields from Deus Ex: Human Revolution were heavily damaged during the events of Deus Ex: Black Light, being replaced by the set he wears in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. If the player chooses to have Adam get the new biochip (that allows Zhao to temporarily shut down his augs), Megan Reed will inject him with a nano-augmentation that shields his biochip from the Illuminati's signal. This would make him the second character in Deus Ex to have both mechanical augmentations and nano-augmentations at the same time. An e-mail discussing Jensen's DNA reveals that his biological mother did not share the mutation that allows him to tolerate mechanical augmentations. Jensen has various vices shown throughout the game. Bottles of whiskey and packs of cigarettes are strewn around his apartment and office and in the cinematic trailers, he drinks and smokes during his recovery. It is revealed in the Deus Ex: Human Revolution comics that he took up smoking again after Megan Reed was presumed dead, yet due to his Sentinel RX Health system the negative health impacts of smoking do not affect him.
While the player can consume alcohol within gameplay, the player has no opportunity to smoke tobacco. He still smokes as of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, his favorite brand apparently being Royal Hellhounds.Jensen enjoys baseball, as demonstrated by the baseball bat in both his Detroit and Prague apartments and the autographed baseball in his Prague apartment, as well as his watching a Detroit baseball game in the opening scene of the System Rift DLC. Jensen's pantry selection reveals surprisingly large quantities of sugary breakfast cereals, hinting at a personal preference for sweet food. However, seeing as his augmentations are supposed to draw bioenergy from his systems to function, the strong preference for sugary food might have been a way to adapt to his body's increased energy demands. In Mankind Divided his favorite drink is Nye's rye, a Canadian made whiskey "proudly produced in Montreal." Coincidentally, it's among the best health restoring drink items in the game. Jensen's trench coat is tailor-made to have custom Typhoon ports and blade slits that are magnetically attached to his body to allow him to perform Typhoon blasts or lethal takedowns without having to worry about the condition of his suit. These blade slits are much more noticeable in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, due to the higher detail in the coat's design and rendering.
ACRONYM, a real-life apparel brand, collaborated with Mankind Divided artists to create a real, working version of Jensen's trench coat.In Jensen's office, there are three diplomas from three different universities for the same degree: B.S. in Criminal Justice from Ferris College, Phoenix University, and a third school whose name is illegible. In Jensen's apartment and office, there are several whiteboards with mathematical writings and mechanical schematics and an eBook in his apartment tells the story of the first mechanical clock. All this suggests that he has an interest in mechanical theory, though he also used clock-making as a method to learn to control his artificial arms during the 6 months he spent recovering.
As of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided he continues to enjoy clock-making, as he has a work table dedicated to the hobby and he visits Nomad Staněk's watch shop often enough for the owner to comment on it when being interrogated by Jensen. Initially the developers intended Jensen's clock-making to indicate that he had always been a collector and simply enjoyed taking devices apart out of curiosity.[30] However during playtesting the testers perceived Jensen's crafting to be his way to learn about his augmented body rather than his being a collector. The developers preferred this interpretation to the original idea and it became canon, so much so that in Deus Ex: Black Light Jensen notes that building model clocks was part of his physical rehabilitation.[31]He is ambidextrous, although this is for gameplay reasons. Various weapons and objects in the games require Jensen's animations to use both hands. As of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided the presence of the Reflex Booster would make him ambidextrous, even if he wasn't already. In spite of this in promotional material and in general in combat, Jensen is demonstrably right-handed. Jensen's preferred beard style appears to be the "anchor beard."[32] His first name may be a direct reference to Adam, described in the Bible as being the first man created by God. This would fit with JC Denton's first initials possibly being an allusion to Jesus Christ.
Jensen's first name may be intended to imply a parallel with Frankenstein's monster, which is also compared to the Biblical Adam. Deus Ex: Human Revolution includes a number of other allusions to Frankenstein, particularly in reference to Hugh Darrow and the technologies he has created, but couldn't control. In the Deus Ex: Human Revolution comics, it is stated that over 50% of Jensen's body has been replaced. It also shows only the bottom half of his legs have been replaced. However in the comic his eyes are blue rather than yellow.
The comics are further contradicted in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided when it's shown that Jensen's leg augments go all the way up to his hips, instead of half-way down his thighs.Vanished in 2030, no one knows where he is
- #3David Sarif
Keys: Sarif, David
David Sarif is the founder and CEO of Sarif Industries, a moderately-sized biotechnology company based in North America. He is a well-preserved male in his late 50s, of average height and build, and in decent shape. His features are Mediterranean.
The son of an immigrant family from Boston, Sarif was brought up to understand the value of hard work and dedication, and from an early age his insight into machines set the tone for the man he would become. He worked his way through university and from there to a scholarship at MIT, getting an MBA before entering the prosthetics field.
Sarif believes in justice, progress, science and technology, civilization, human endeavor, and people. He is direct when dealing with others and unafraid to show emotion. Some find him blunt or pushy, others refreshing, even invigorating. His sense of honesty applies only to his behavior - he has no aversion to keeping secrets when appropriate.
Founding Sarif Industries
In 2007, David Sarif promised to revitalize his home city of Detroit by introducing a new industry of mechanical augmentation to the city. Refitting disused automobile plants for the production of mechanical augmentations for military and civilian use, Sarif had nearly single-handedly revitalized the economy of the city and prevented its collapse. During this time he became close friends with Hugh Darrow, who was a mentor of sorts to Sarif, and the father of mechanical augmentation.
Family
Sarif has a sister and a niece named Natalie and Nina Freeman, respectively. Nina is kidnapped in issue 1 of the Deus Ex: Human Revolution comic series, and it is there revealed that Natalie is the vice-president and a staunch supporter of the Humanity Front.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Sarif was preparing for the augmentation debate in Washington when a black-ops team, the Tyrants, attacked Sarif Industries HQ in Detroit and killed several scientists, including the company's top researcher, Megan Reed, and Adam Jensen, Sarif Industries' chief of security. Sarif opted to save Jensen and arranged for him to be mechanically augmented. While only Adam's left arm and chest cavity needed to be augmented in order to save his life, Sarif decided as Jensen's medical proxy (thanks to a convenient employment contract clause), to replace most of Jensen's body with cybernetic prosthetics.
Six months later, he pulled Jensen out of sick leave when an extremist anti-augmentation group, known as Purity First, attacked the Milwaukee manufacturing plant just as the Typhoon Explosive System, a top-secret military augmentation, was about to enter production. He sent Jensen in to secure the data before it was made public and to rescue the hostages if possible.
Upon Jensen's return, Sarif had him retrieve the neural hub of the augmented Purity First hacker from the Detroit Police Department morgue, implying that Adam either use old contacts to get inside or to sneak in. After this, he tasked Jensen with disabling the transmitter in Derelict Row district that kept a backdoor into the SI network open that Sarif himself had created and neither Jensen nor Frank Pritchard were aware of. Once the signal was shut down, Sarif sent Jensen to investigate where the source of the hacker's signal came from: an abandoned bot factory complex in Highland Park.
Sarif has two main augmentations: C.A.S.I.E. Social Enhancer (which has some discreet grooves on his forehead) and a very ornate mechanical right arm. He is said to have had his arm replaced with an augmentation so he could "play better baseball at the company picnic."[3] It is fair to assume that all of his augmentations come from his own company, Sarif Industries.
He also appears to have an EMP shield aug, as he does not react if you throw an EMP grenade at him on Panchaea. He may also have others, however this cannot be confirmed.
Sarif wrote an article, "Building Wings: A Better Tomorrow", which highlights his personal beliefs regarding transhumanism. It can be seen as a contrast to William Taggart's "No Better: The Myth of Human Augmentation".
The name "Sarif" was chosen because of its similarity to "Seraphim," a class of angels.[4] Šarīf (شريف) is an Arabic personal name meaning "noble" or "highborn" commonly used by Arabs and non-Arab Muslims. You can find Sarif's portrait in his office that pictures him with both hands augmented. In the game, however, Sarif is shown with only his right hand augmented visibly. This most likely means that the development team had Sarif's character model with 2 robotic arms when they made the painting, but later in development decided to change his character model to just 1 robotic arm and forgot about the painting. The chess set on Sarif's desk is actually a real chess set called the Mancini chess set. Sarif is a Detroit Tigers fan. The wall behind him in his office shows stats for a season. He can also be seen throwing a baseball up and down and toys with it when he is agitated or uncomfortable. Sarif shares similarities with Damien Knight of Ares Marcotechnology from the Shadowrun series. Both CEOs of a powerful megacorporation specializing in weapons and augmentation. Both of their headquarters are based in Detroit. - #4Eliza Cassan
Keys: Cassan, Eliza
Eliza Cassan is the celebrity-like Picus TV Network newsreader.
The famous and mysterious Eliza Cassan is almost a celebrity in her own way, being the easily recognizable face of Picus TV. She delivers news 24/7 and seems to have an almost uncanny grasp of current events, though many remark that she seems to always deliver information with an ideological or biased slant.
- #5Francis Pritchard
Keys: Pritchard, Francis
The head of the cyber-security division at Sarif Industries. Work for Sarif Industries
As the head of the cyber-security division at Sarif Industries, Pritchard is responsible for the overall digital well-being and security for the company. His performance evaluations have noted him to be remarkable at "thinking outside the box" when it comes to his work ethic, but his ineffectual behavior towards co-workers has been under evaluation.
At one point, Pritchard was arrested for "fraud and related activity in connection with access devices and computers" charges, along with four other additional unknown accomplices.[1]
In 2027, Pritchard works with Adam Jensen and gives him advice through Jensen's Infolink on security conditions on the field. He is highly knowledgeable about security layouts, and various points of entry, tending to side with indirect, covert routes. He was the one who told David Sarif the company needed to have a physical security team for protection, but wanted Dynacore, Sharp Edge or Belltower, all top private security contractors, and not Adam.
While he shows no physical signs of mechanical augmentation, it is suggested that Pritchard is augmented; after he contacts Jensen during the second visit to Hengsha, and the augmentation glitches are mentioned, Pritchard replies with "We've all had them," suggesting that he was experiencing the glitches as well. He also states that he will look into the new biochip more before getting it himself. Evidently he did not decide to upgrade before Hugh Darrow's signal is broadcast, since he communicates normally with Jensen over the comms at the beginning of the final mission. It can be assumed that he has cerebral hacking augmentations. This is also evident as there is a Cyberboost Energy Bar on his desk in Sarif Industries
In Director's cut version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the first time you talk to Pritchard in his office and you have Social enchancer in New Game+, icon of C.A.S.I.E aug is displayed on your HUD like when you use passive aug (etc. rebreather), but C.A.S.I.E. doesn't affect this conversation. There is a small easter egg in Pritchard's office. If you go straight to the back wall from the door to the corkboard on the wall, then look down at the thick cables on the floor, you will notice the serial number on the cable is "NCC-1701-D". This is a reference to the registry number for the starship Enterprise in the popular 90's TV show Star Trek: The Next Generation. Pritchard has a poster in his office for Final Fantasy XXVII, a reference to one of Square Enix's long-running game series. The Deus Ex: Human Revolution Collector's Edition Guide contains concept art of Pritchard's office, where a figurine of Bender from the popular sci-fi cartoon Futurama can be seen on display. When returning the Typhoon, Pritchard will sarcastically refer to Adam as "Atilla the Hun, fresh from the killing fields" or "Mahatma Gandhi himself, come to honor us all with his life-preserving presence", depending on whether Adam handled the purists lethally or non-lethally in Milwaukee Junction. He maintains a hacker alias of "Nucl3arsnake", and was still using it as his e-mail address as evidenced by his login/password e-mail to Sarif. Also, an e-mail by Arie van Bruggen found in the Pangu says "I gotta deal with nucl3arsnake again. He's becoming a real pain in my ass." indicating Pritchard was using the alias while investigating van Bruggen. This alias may be a reference or easter egg regarding Metal Gear Solid, another stealth/action series. Hacking Pritchard's computer reveals a reason for his bitterness towards Adam. He was pestering Picus TV about his idea of a TV show with a hacker protagonist who would use his wits rather than brute force, clearly modeled after himself. The Picus editor instead suggests an ex-cop hero, who incidentally sounds like a carbon copy of Jensen, saying he's more likeable.
In Mankind Divided, civilian NPCs may sometimes remark that Jensen looks like the main character of a movie called 'Nucl3arsnake', seemingly implying that Pritchard's script was eventually picked up, and that the main character was modeled on Jensen. If Jensen talks to them again, they will reveal this character has longer hair, no beard, and is named 'Francis', implying the character was modeled on Pritchard as well. During the first day in Prague, a tour-guide outside the closed Red Light District can be heard telling visitors that they may recognize the Red Queen nightclub from the new Nuclear Snake film. On Jensen's coffee table a copy of the screenplay can be found, signed by Pritchard, perhaps indicating that he sought Jensen's opinion on it. A copy can also be found in Nomad Staněk's apartment, and two in Laura Vale's apartment. - #6Megan Reed
Keys: Megan, Reed
the head of neuro-scientific research on augmentations at Sarif Industries and Adam Jensen's former lover
Megan Reed was born in Seattle, Washington, in 1995, the only child of two doctors who both decided early on that family life would never interfere with their careers. As a child, Megan was often left on her own and took refuge in her intelligent imagination, developing a rich inner life at the expense of interpersonal socialization.[2]
Around 2009-2010, Megan moved to North Carolina and then moved to France in 2012, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in Neurology & Psychology.[3] Early in her studies she was impressed by Hugh Darrow's work and has wanted to work for him ever since.[2]
In 2018, Megan returned to the United States and two years later she was hired by Sarif Industries as a genetic researcher. She became the head of the science team in 2023.[3]
As the head of neuro-scientific research on augmentations at Sarif Industries, Megan is in charge of advancing the applications of cybernetic augmentations for the company. David Sarif handpicked her due to her earlier work and extensive research in the field. It was also Megan who recommended Jensen for the job as chief of security.[4]
In 2027, she was preparing to go to Washington D.C. along with her team of scientists to defend their research once again, but not before she confesses to Jensen that this new discovery is "Rosetta Stone big" and that what really worries her is being asked how she discovered it. She further reveals her uneasiness on this topic in an e-mail with Sarif, where she explains she is afraid of possible questions concerning the first sample and Patient X.
In her Patient X study, Reed discovered a unique genome that could tolerate augmentations without suffering from Darrow Deficiency Syndrome (DDS).
Before Reed could present her research, the Tyrants attack the Sarif Industries Headquarters. During the attack, she is rendered unconscious by Jaron Namir as she attempts to defend the maimed Jensen. Six months later she is stated to have been killed in the attack and official autopsies have apparently been performed. However, Reed was never explicitly shown to have been killed, causing speculation on whether or not she may still be alive among some of her former colleagues. In reality, she was not killed and instead taken to a FEMA camp at Highland Park so Isaias Sandoval could remove her and her team's GPL implants. However, Sandoval was unsuccessful at removing them so he lowered the frequency instead, making Sarif think they had been killed in the attack.
- #7William Taggart
Keys: Taggart, William
the founder and leader of the pro-humanist group Humanity Front He is a highly successful psychologist and anti-augmentation activist and speaker, well known for his charisma and oratorical abilities.
Bill formed the group Humanity Front in 2021, soon after Antoine Thisdale's famous court case regarding his right to amputate and augment himself to be able to compete with his augmented peers.
In 2027, Taggart is in Geneva, Switzerland, when the Tyrants plan to assassinate him, making him a martyr for his cause and push for a UN vote on augmentation regulation. Although Ben Saxon fails to kill him, Scott Hardesty shoots and kills his secretary, which still successfully ignites anti-augmentation regulation discussion among the government. At gun point with Saxon, Taggart asks him: "Did they send you?"
After returning from the Highland Park FEMA complex, Jensen finds Taggart in Sarif's penthouse, along with his bodyguards and personal aide, Isaias Sandoval. Taggart will confront Jensen directly, claiming he wishes to speak with him as well as condemning the violent actions of Purity First, and attempts to psychoanalyze him. Adam may either listen to his claims that augmentation is endangering the human race, or confront him about the Purity First incident, to which he will show contempt toward the player.
In the comic series, Taggart has another meeting with Sarif in London. Together with Zhao Yun Ru, he offers Sarif an opportunity to cooperate with them. Sarif immediately dismisses the offer, accusing them of being part of the conspiracy.
Taggart wrote a book "No Better: The Myth of Human Augmentation" which highlights his personal beliefs regarding human augmentations. This book, along with its various audio and video versions, is a top ten bestseller as reported by Picus.[2]
Of the three manifestos that can be read throughout the Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Taggart's book is a counterpoint to David Sarif's "Building Wings: A Better Tomorrow".
- #8Zhao Yun Ru
Keys: Zhao
the CEO of Tai Yong Medical, a leading biotech corporation based in Hengsha, China.
Zhao Yun Ru is a refined, sophisticated, wealthy, and successful businesswoman on the exterior. Her company, Tai Yong Medical, controls the vast majority of Hengsha, and she has substantial investments in Belltower Associates. She is a major player on the global stage, and has big ambitions for herself and her company.
But on the inside, Zhao is a cutthroat, ruthless, and brutal woman that uses military force and corporate sabotage to drive her competitors out of business. She attempts to buy out all of her enemies, and when that doesn't work, she hires freelance hackers to steal their secrets. Despite her criminal activities, her substantial wealth and usage of Belltower as a private army renders her untouchable, legally or otherwise.
In 2008, Zhao was slated as a gymnast to represent the Chinese Olympic team. Unfortunately, she was hit by a car mere months before the start of the Olympic Games that year, which caused severe nerve damage and effectively ended her gymnastic career.[2] Despite this, she was able to graduate from the University of Beijing on August 4th, 2010 with a degree in Biology and Nanotechnology. Some time after, she took up the sport of fencing, as evident by a photo in her modern-day penthouse.
- #9LIMB clinic
Keys: LIMB clinic
are mechanical augmentation clinics first opened in 2011 by LIMB International. The name is an acronym for liberty in mind and body.
In the early 2020s, LIMB clinics are located in many major cities across the globe, such as Detroit and Hengsha. Smaller LIMB clinics can be found outside major cities, such as the one located in Panchaea which provides its largely augmented workforce with the products they require.
These clinics offer the surgeries to implant mechanical augmentations. They sell neuropozyne to counteract the rejection syndrome caused by mechanical augmentations, as well as other products needed by augmented people such as Praxis software, ammunition for the Typhoon and energy containers to power augmentations. It is also at LIMB clinics that augmented people are offered the new biochip.
Limb Clinics fell down after AUG Accident in 2027

- #11Belltower Associates
Keys: Belltower
Belltower Associates is the main component and subsidiary of the Belltower Group, an umbrella group of private military companies who provide a maximum spectrum private military/security solution in the year 2027.
The precursor company, Belltower UK, was founded by Roger St. John-Ffolkes, a British Army officer. The creation of the company was a result of dissent, that dated back to events during the Falklands war, in 1982. It was incorporated in 1997 beginning life as a security consultant and close protection agency. Originally operating in minor hotspots, primarily handling low-level corporate security, kidnapping, retrieval, and close protection, the company rapidly grew. By the early 2000s, it became the Belltower Associates, and a core element of the Belltower Group.[1]
In the aftermath of the 2014 scandal involving the previous leader in private security, Bluewater International, caught dealing with Afghan insurgents and subsequently disbanded, Belltower filled the vacuum of the need for private security and set a new and highly regarded standard for the business. Belltower, with several sub-divisions, grew considerably and became the world's largest private security company.[2]
2020s Sir Roger St. John-Ffolkes officially stepped down as CEO in 2024, giving joint control of the company to his sons Luther and Andrew; in reality, he had served only as a figurehead in this post for the last decade. Belltower's influence is considerable, and it is a vital participant in many conflicts worldwide, providing both regular and specialized troops and services. The Australian Civil War is a notable example, with Belltower units being a significant part of the SAF army, including Ben Saxon's Strike Team Six in 2026.
Beside their legal activities, Belltower also managed a comprehensive smuggling network in cooperation with XNG Shipping. The company undertook illegal jobs with corporate clients, and cooperated with players in organized crime, to conduct human trafficking, goods and weapons smuggling. These operations were supervised by particularly tainted officers, like Narhari Kahn, Pieter Burke and John Trent. Belltower also conducted black operations and projects through their special operations forces, including specially enhanced teams like that of Michael Zelazny and the Tyrants.
2027 By 2027, Belltower units were embedded in conflicts across the globe. In Australia, despite setbacks, the Belltower 12th Commando Regiment was instrumental in quelling a Chinese-backed insurgency in the Northern Territory.[3]
- #12WTO
Keys: World Trade Organization, WTO
Most prominent amongst the new establishments is the WTO. Primarily focused on the achievement of political and economic recovery in North America, Europe and Asia, the WTO works in tandem with local governments to establish urban growth and stability while laying the foundation for a new global information network. WTO-funded habitats — called “enclaves” or “arcologies” — positioned in most major cities allow the WTO to exert its influence and discretion over everything from international travel to local trade.
Founder GATT members and the European Communities Leader Chad Dumier Members Donna Morgan (Chief of Operations Worldwide)
Vera Maxwell (Executive Commander) Lawson Gibbs
The World Trade Organization (WTO) is an international organization designed to supervise and liberalize international trade. After the Collapse, it was newly incorporated as an attempt to unify the fractured world, starting with the global north.
The original WTO came into being on 1 January 1995, and was the successor to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), which was created in 1947, and continued to operate for almost five decades as a de facto international organization. At some point in its history (possibly from its very foundation), the WTO came under the control of the Illuminati.
The new World Trade Organization was incorporated shortly after the Collapse, in 2057, promising peace through trade, or at least flights on schedule and more shopping options. However, the first thing nanoformers typically put up when a WTO enclave appeared was a wall.[1] The new WTO went beyond being a simple mercantile alliance and was for all intents and purposes an attempt to recreate a global sysem of policing and governance, using trade as a tool to entice, control, and ultimately dominate human communities. Led by one-time rebel Chad Dumier.
WTO prefers the carrot: It works with local governments, providing technology to post-collapse states (typically city states) in return for adopting WTO laws and surveillance.[2] This technology is commonly limited to enclaves, where the WTO elite and their local supporters live in luxury, and everyone else labors for their benefit. This network of enclaves and the aforementioned Charter System have reconnected many major cities and provided a tremendous boost to local economies, but have also greatly increased the WTO's power and put it at odds with the Order Church, which protests against the spread of materialism and consumerism every time a new enclave is incorporated.
The other aspect is the huge divide between the rich and the poor, with the rich few residing in fortified enclaves, while the poor many many live like feudal peasants in the streets of the post-Collapse world. The WTO doesn't limit its reach to just the enclaves either, as WTO troops and contractors are commonly found outside the enclave, cracking down on "illegal" technology use or violation of arbitrary commerce laws.
- #13Collapse
Keys: Collapse
"J.C. Denton's destruction of Area 51 plunged the world into a period of depression and war known as the Collapse. The Collapse shattered the global powers. It would be two decades before those with visions of a new world order would again vie for dominance."
When JC Denton destroys Area 51 in 2052, the center of multimedia communication and the Aquinas communication grid, the Internet is disabled and humanity descends into a period of war and economic recession known as The Collapse. It takes place over several months (indicated by JC), and indirectly impacts almost every event. Following The Collapse, transport between regions is slow and commercial air transportation is non-existent - only remote travel is facilitated through private pilots.
Twenty years ago, J.C. Denton shut down the Aquinas Router, which paralyzed global communication and returned civilization to a simpler, decentralized existence."
While the specifics of the world collapse are not told (everyone in the game world has dealt with the events for more than two decades), it is implied that the sudden decentralization of communications and control caused long-dormant rivalries between nations to erupt into all-out war.
Among the mentioned singular events are the destruction of the Statue of Liberty and UNATCO HQ, the event of nanite swells with subsequent use of nuclear weapons to put them down, an unknown incident which reduced Cairo international airport into a "landfill", and what seems to be the complete collapse of parts of Siberian Russia which prompted the creation of the Omar as a survival measure.
For a while after the events of Deus Ex, JC Denton/Helios accomplishes much at his home base on Liberty Island. With the Statue of Liberty destroyed, JC's newfound knowledge of nanotechnology allows him to rebuild it as a brightly glowing spectre of its former self.
Regardless of what had been done, the strain on JC's body would eventually be too much for him, forcing him to go into suspended animation. A company known as ApostleCorp was started by Paul Denton in order to research an improved nanotechnology that would better allow JC to work with Helios.
This work would eventually lead to the creation of the Tarsus Academy, whose primary goal would be to test new generations of nanotechnology on "trainees".
The United States fragmented into various city-states during the Collapse. Germany appears to have survived as either a sovereign nation or geographical territory, but it has lost its international power. Newly independent Cairo was hit with a weapon of mass destruction during the Collapse; its residents still need to use filtration masks to survive the parasitic nanoscale particles outside the Cairo Arcology. India and Pakistan obliterated each other with nuclear warheads. All other countries have either lost their international power, were destroyed, or were fragmented.
Fourteen nanite swells plague the Earth, though there was a brief disruption of Swell 9 in 2067. Swell 11 plagues Cairo.
Due to the decisive defeat of MJ12, the resistance groups fighting MJ12 no longer had a common goal. Therefore, they either joined ApostleCorp or the rebuilding Illuminati.
The Illuminati consists of Silhouette, MJ12 remnants, surviving VersaLife members, the original Illuminati members, and the NSF. ApostleCorp consists of the surviving Denton family, X-51, the Triads, and the newly uplifted Grays.Due to disagreements about the benevolence and nature of Helios, the tensions between the two factions are high.
The World Trade Organization (WTO), with Chad Dumier as its Chairman, was founded to rebuild societal infrastructure, economy, and standard of living. The Order Church was formed to counteract the WTO and unify the world religions. The Order is led by a figure, publicly known as Her Holiness.
The WTO created a federated state in order to end the chaos caused by the fall of the United States. City-state members of this North American WTO federated state include Tacoma, Newark, Leander, New York City, Austin, Reno, Dallas, Seattle, and until its destruction, Chicago. The WTO also set up another federated state administrating Europe, the Middle East, and Eastern Africa. This state consists of Thebes, Istanbul, Jedda, Jordan, Madrid, Nairobi, London, Cairo, and Trier. The Order, conversely, created a decentralized theocratic system of government to aid the poor kept out of the WTO enclaves.

ApostleCorp is an organization that has worked to create a new biological architecture thanks to nanites, that would be acceptable to all humans, and planned in the future to distribute these nanites worldwide to allow a perfect equality between human beings, the JC Denton's vision, a perfect democracy where everyone of equal ability connected (not assimilated) to the Helios AI. This has brought them into conflict with every other faction in the post-Collapse world, including the Illuminati, the Knights Templar, and to a lesser extent, the Omar.
Following the destruction of Area 51 and Majestic 12 and the beginning of the Collapse, JC Denton was unable to control the power of Helios AI, due to a defect in the nanite architecture, resulting in an imperfect merge. Before he loses control, he reveals his ideology of equality for all to his brother Paul and Tracer Tong. After that, his allies transported him to Antarctica, where JC erected a sanctuary for himself, using his newfound powers. Afterwards he fell into a prolonged coma, and remained in his refuge for twenty years.

Having the key to the future of the human species, Paul and Tracer Tong sought a way to wake JC from his coma, and found that the only way he would be restored was through the introduction of a new nanite architecture. In order to obtain this, ApostleCorp was founded by Paul Denton and Tracer Tong. Its purpose was to develop improved nanotechnology so that JC could complete the merger with the Helios AI and to awaken from his coma. The company also had to develop a universal nanite strain acceptable to all humans, and planned in the future to distribute these nanites worldwide to allow a perfect equality between human beings, JC Denton's vision, a perfect democracy where everyone would be of equal ability and connected to the Helios AI.
At some point, the nanites based on cloned Denton cells were tested on Paul, but his body violently rejected the infusion, so he had to be cryogenically frozen to save his life. After long experimentation, ApostleCorp managed to create a new type of nanite, a biologically-acceptable nanite, with the same capacity as the previous, but more polyvalent. This time, the process also involved changing the body physically at a biomolecular level, so the infusions were now compatible with the entire human population.
The company had several enemies however, including the WTO and Order Church
- #15Church/Order
Keys: Order
The Order Church is a pandenominational religious movement with heavy influence after the Collapse.
Type Pan-denominational religious movement
"The Order is a trans-denominational religious group dedicated to the pursuit of natural balance led by the mysterious figure Her Holiness. They work toward personal fulfillment through non-material means and are very protective of the natural state of humankind and the environment. The group has spread worldwide since the Collapse, appealing to people by offering peace and solace from chaos. Every city is now represented by a shard of the church, led by a high official bearing the title Luminon."Her Holiness spread the ideals of her church, which are reminiscent of New Age culture, including reverence for nature and spiritual enlightenment and the Order Church appealed to those who had lost friends and faith during the Collapse. Due to the despair abounding after the Collapse, people eagerly took on these beliefs, and the movement spread.
Dedicated to the pursuit of a concept called "natural balance", the Order is against nanotechnology and augmentation. It is also apparently against what it sees as the material greed and commercialism of its main "rival" within the game, the WTO (World Trade Organization). The Order Church also often comes into conflict with major corporations like Mako Ballistics and Panzerwerks (an industrial giant based in Trier, Germany).
Although the organization is ostensibly peaceful, it has mounted sometimes violent protests against those who it has seen as polluting the environment, the prime example of this being the Panzerverks factory in Trier, Germany. It also mentioned as having helped start a riot in Lower Seattle, against Upper Seattle becoming a WTO enclave in 2071. One year after, in its investigation of ApostleCorp, the Order Church led a raid against Seattle Tarsus Academy in Seattle for freeing the trainees.
In 2072, the Order Church has grown to the point where it has absorbed the followers of the world's other religions, as demonstrated by the fact that its headquarters in Cairo is actually a converted mosque.
"Her Holiness is the Order's global leader but the organization is comprised of local entities, called shards, each headed by a Luminon." — Deus Ex: Invisible WarThe Order Church adopted a hierarchial system, somewhat similar to the Roman Catholic Church. The ranks are:
Her Holiness - Leading the church and reciting the various verses. High Augur - Supreme advisor of Her Holiness and command the Luminon. Luminon - Regional leader of the church. Captain - Leader of a Shard, all are led by the Luminon. Seeker - The disciples. All Seekers are members of smaller groups known as a Shard, which is in turn led by a Captain. - #16The Omar
Keys: Omar
"The biomodified Omar share a group consciousness, but each member was once an ordinary human."Type Survive at any environment and any condition Sell quality items Founder A group of Russian nanotechnology researchers
They are characterized by a post-human appearance, mindset, and organization - while some of their sympathizers and agents are (still) human, those who choose to join are radically surgically and nanotoechnologically augmented to an unprecedented degree. The ultimate modification is the replacement of frontal lobes by a cortical interface, that completely assimilates the subject into the collective mind.[1] The Omar are believed by some to be the next step in human evolution, humanity's successors, if not replacement.[2]
"The Omar are a worldwide cult of cyborgs, openly dedicated to the idea of transcending human limitations through technology. Though many individuals outside the cult are biomodified, the cyborgs are the only group that explicitly promotes "post humanism." Accustomed to procuring technology for themselves, the Omar have established a global black market for high-tech and weapons. It is believed that the Omar initially emerged in post Collapse Russia, the culmination of desperate attempts by scientists to survive the famines and polluted environment."
The Omar are the unlikely children of the darkness of the Collapse, when Russian science cities found themselves severed from the greater federation and left to fend for themselves. The resulting Russian Famine took a devastating toll on the population, especially in cities[3] when the harsh winter came.[4] The eventual underground cyborg society was first and foremost a desperate bid to survive,[5] at any cost. The future Omar seized any resources they required and went to extreme lengths to guarantee their survival.[6]
What emerged from these cities was a post-human collective, applying anagenetic evolution to rapid environmental change: Forcing adaptation by augmentation, not limited by any conventional morality or abstract laws. From the Omar perspective, by solving the problem of survival on a planet disrupted by warfare and self-perpetuating hazards, they solved other social problems, removing individual variance from the equation. While the problem was solved, it remains imperfect and the Omar are always on the lookout for ways to improve the collective, especially pre-Collapse transgenics, who were also created to endure a world of war and catastrophe.[7] VersaLife remains a prized source of knowledge, as its abandoned laboratories provided much knowledge to the Omar.[8]
Ultimately, the Omar plan to adapt to every climate and biohazard on Earth, with the potential to expand beyond the confines of the blue planet.[9] The network believes the New Age cannot be prevented,[10] though the presence of strong leaders and factions may delay its arrival and the Omar inheriting of the Earth.[11]
The Omar are unlike any other human organization, state or otherwise, as all members of the collective share a group consciousness once augmented with the cortical interface.[12] This consciousness facilitiates the actions of the collective across the world, including real-time reactions to outside actions against the group. The most noticeable of these is the near-instantaneous granting of preferred customer status to those who perform a service to the sect (typically an illegal act, such as theft or murder),[13] entitling them to a 50% discount when purchasing from any trader. Of course, any hostile action results in immediate rescinding of this privilege.[14]
This unprecedented degree of connectivity coupled with the absence of individual desires allowed the Omar to effectively corner the global black market, infiltrating even WTO enclaves to facilitate international trade.[15] By 2072, any existing criminal element knows that their appearance means they have to either flee or strike a bargain with the Omar,[16] as they are known to be utterly implacable.[17] Any such alliance of necessity is brief, as the former competition is usually aware the Omar will dispose of them the moment they stop being necessary.[18]
he same network makes it impossible to carry out a decapitation strike, since there's no discrete commander. The shared consciousness directs Omar actions,[19] and coordinates operations, to the point where replacement Omar can arrive in a matter of hours.[20] It also allows them to infiltrate almost any network, including biomodified humans, and using their infolink to remotely acquire data. They usually inform they will perform such an action, though they don't necessarily seek consent to continue using a person's augmentations in this manner.[21][22]
Although borderline alien, the Omar's wealth makes them lucrative business partners,[3] and implacable foes. They are also known to be very well paying employers, paying non-Omar protectors handsome sums (2000 credits per week and free biomods) for their work, as well as the option for more extreme modifications - a pathway to becoming one of them.
Although the Omar appear monstrous at a glance, likened to "horse-headed freaks" by their enemies,[24] they are a walking advertisement for their expertise in the field of biomodification, and the black market they excel in is one of the only sources for non-Piezochem biomods.[25] They are easily distinguished by the skin-tight environmental suits with a helmet enclosing their head, distinguishing between different types of Omar according to the eyepieces: Omar traders have red, narrowed lenses, while Omar Protectors have more open, yellow, goggle-like eyes. Traders have raspy voices, while protectors have more mechanical voices.[26]
The Omar are confirmed to seek candidates for assimilation from among their contractors, although rumors of other methods persist. One holds that whenever the Omar lose a cyborg, they replace the loss by forcibly assimilating the person responsible for causing the loss.[27] Another holds that they abduct homeless people and convert them into robots,[28] with another stating the same, except the victims are black market rivals.[29]
The Omar induction is divided into two phases. Phase I is the most visually striking, as the candidate undergoes extensive augmentation, combining nanotech and mechanical augs. The hardware includes invasive installation of transskeletal supports and a full-body, form-fitting environmental suit capable of surviving in any environment (likened to black latex).[29] Removal is impossible without involving surgeons specializing in augmentations,[30] and until removed or integrated into the collective, the Omar consciousness can shut its functions down remotely.[31] Phase II is when the subject becomes a true Omar, with the installation of a cortical implant that replaces the individual's frontal lobes.[1] The procedure effectively removes their individuality, making the subject think like an Omar - or rather, making them part of the global consciousness.[32] The procedure is extremely painful and the Omar give prospective candidates two months to decide under normal circumstances, although may decide to force assimilation under certain circumstances. People exposed to the Omar collective report the Omar don't think in a conventional sense, at least in a way that can be understood by regular humans.[33]
It's possible that the individual consciousness continues to exist within the network, essentially transcending the flesh. Equally possible is the Omar network being able of simulating any individual that has been added to the network.[34] Omar have been dissected by WTO researchers, revealing the cortical interface is the primary controller for any single unit, using the original software created by Russian scientists after the Collapse, including opcodes in Cyrillic. It is also considered to be the source of the apparent lack of personality among the Omar,[6] and what led the Templar to believe that the Omar are actually a self-replicating machine that grows itself around human bodies.[19] On the flip side, augmentation that makes the Omar interchangeable also makes them easy to upgrade: The collective consciousness can integrate new information and disseminate them instantly, providing improvements in Omar survivability within moments of receiving
The Omar are not particularly popular across the world, even if they provide otherwise unavailable services. In all WTO areas, the Omar are banned and their entry or stay constitutes a violation of WTO laws (under Section 876, Transhuman Immigration Violation). It is considered a pragmatic policy, as the Omar prioritize their own survival ahead of any law,[3] and the black market they operate exists outside WTO control. Most troopers are also extremely prejudiced against the Omar,[6] alongside many elites.[36]

- #20Greasel
Keys: Greasel
Greasels were created by VersaLife through genetic engineering; thus, they are a type of transgenic creature. Their characteristics include hypotrophic wings, a spitting-cobra morphology, and muscles enhanced by V-actin.[1] Their spit affects the human nervous system to the effect of impaired coordination and vision.[2]
Greasels were frequently studied at Majestic 12 facilities, such as the Liberty Island MJ12 lab, the VersaLife facility in Hong Kong, and the Pasadena Ocean Lab. In the Denfert-Rochereau in Paris, a group of greasels seemingly escaped, or were deliberately released, from a nearby facility.
VersaLife personnel at their Antarctica base created a new breed of greasels, known as red greasels, through the infusion of additional genetic material. Red greasels were meaner and tougher.[3] They were also more attractive to female greasels than their green counterparts.[4]
Following the collapse, many greasels escaped from the VersaLife facility in Antarctica.[5] A group of unlucky scientists who became trapped in JC Denton's Sanctuary encountered a pack of escaped greasels that slowly hunted them until none of the scientists remained alive. Post-collapse
In 2072, despite the danger that greasels pose, they are sought after by certain segments of post-Collapse society. Some greasels are kept as pets. According to one price list, greasels are sold as exotic pets at a price of 350 credits.[6] A training manual, titled "Greasel Care," states that greasels should be kept in cages and should eat a whole cat each day.[7]
In Lower Seattle, greasel fights have become a popular attraction at the "Greasel Pit Bar," where an intrepid trainer (or a smart gambler) can make considerable amounts of money with the right greasel. The current champion is Gobzilla, whose trainer is Tina.

Karkians are studied in multiple Majestic 12 facilities, including the Liberty Island MJ12 lab, the VersaLife facility in Hong Kong, the MJ12 Sub Base in California, and the Pasadena Ocean Lab. According to Dr. Corwell, a researcher at the sub base who operates a karkian tank, MJ12 has been performing studies on creature morphology, resulting in horribly deformed creatures.[2] On one occasion, in Hong Kong, a researcher transporting Karkian eggs was injured by a blast that destroyed a tunnel. The eggs then hatched into infant karkians. Due to hunger, the stronger members of the litter consumed the weaker ones.[3] Post-collapse
Karkians were researched in secret, and were rarely sighted by the public.[4] This changed after the Collapse, which allowed karkians and greasels to thrive in the resulting chaos. Even in major urban areas such as Seattle, they can be found roaming the sewers and tunnels.

He was a prominent member of the Illuminati and one of the leaders of the Illuminati's Majestic 12 division until sometime during the 2030s. At this point, he uses Majestic 12 to overthrow the Illuminati, becoming the wealthiest and most powerful man in the world.

At some point, the Daedalus AI classifies its creators, Majestic 12, as a terrorist organization.[29] Daedalus then escapes from MJ12 control and begins plotting against Page. Page later creates a new modified AI based on Daedalus called Icarus, which would remain under MJ12 control.[26] Page Savage convo
Page threatening Savage at Vandenberg via a holographic communicator
The production of the deadly nano-virus and its cure are possible only through the use of a Universal Constructor. Page had directed Majestic 12 scientists, working at Area 51, to construct this machine, with Gary Savage, a former Illuminati researcher, as the chief scientist. However, when the sinister intentions of Page became apparent to Savage and his co-workers, they abandoned Majestic 12 and relocated to Vandenberg Air Force Base. This group of defected scientists would call themselves X-51, and would ally with other factions opposing Majestic 12, including the National Secessionist Forces and the remnants of the Illuminati led by Morgan Everett. The resistance against Majestic 12 is aided by JC Denton, who helps Morgan Everett obtain the information needed to develop a cure for the Gray Death.
Page orders Majestic 12 to attack Vandenberg Air Force Base. The attack nearly forces X-51 to surrender, if not for the arrival of JC Denton.[30] JC Denton also assists X-51 by obtaining schematics from MJ12's Pasadena Ocean Lab needed to construct a fully functioning Universal Constructor. X-51 intends to use the Universal Constructor to manufacture Morgan Everett's cure for the Gray Death. In response to this, Page orders the release of a nuclear missile to blow up Vandenberg, or to reduce it to a “thin, gray smudge.” The missile launch is foiled by JC Denton, who redirects the missile at Area 51. The missile causes great damage to Area 51's surface level buildings, but it is not enough to penetrate Area 51's deep underground bunkers where Page is operating. Apotheosis Bob Page merge
Bob Page preparing to merge with Helios
Page plans to merge with an Artificial Intelligence in order to become something comparable to a god. To achieve this goal, he first needed a powerful enough AI to merge with. The desired entity is unwittingly created by JC Denton when JC gives Daedalus access to MILNET at Vandenberg. JC's actions unwittingly grants Icarus the means to merge with Daedalus, leading to the creation of the combined AI, Helios. JC then realizes that the creation of Helios was a trap laid by Page.
Even with the creation of Helios, Page still needed to be physically capable of merging with the AI. It becomes apparent that the ultimate goal of his research into nano-augmentations, as well his efforts to perfect them, was to develop a framework that would allow this merge to take place.
When JC Denton finally arrives at Area 51, Bob Page is already in the process of uniting himself with the Helios AI. This merger would grant him complete access to every piece of information on the Internet and total control over the array of UCs in Area 51. If he is successful, he would be all-seeing, all-knowing, and all-powerful; essentially making himself a god. Ultimately, however, his plans are foiled by JC Denton, who is ironically one of Page’s own creations.
As part of Majestic 12’s plan to establish absolute dominion over mankind, Bob Page uses VersaLife to develop a nano-virus known as the Gray Death and the cure, called Ambrosia. By keeping the production and distribution of Ambrosia under strict control, Page can use the disease - and by extension, the cure – as a means to manipulate people into carrying out his will. One instance of this is when he coerces a US senator into making his chief lieutenant, Simons, the new director of FEMA. Page achieves this by offering to put the senator on the priority list for the Ambrosia vaccine.
Even though Page is responsible for a large portion of the suffering and violence that has swept across the United States and other parts of the world, he manages to maintain a positive image in the public eye. This is due partially to his philanthropic efforts to help those in need. Despite being both the creator of the disease and the sole controller of its cure, Page makes the following public comment: “
When I was in New York recently, the suffering that I saw on the streets was unconscionable. Thomas Aquinas, a personal icon, worked his entire life to ease such terrible pain. This is the very least I could do. — Bob Page, as quoted in "Page Donates to Area Clinic" (article posted on Hell's Kitchen bulletin terminals)
Page also announces that he intends to donate 10 million credits to the Clinics and Hospices Association of New York, to help treat those that have caught the Gray Death. Despite Page's promises, the 10 million credit donation is nowhere to be seen.[28]
With the help of Everett, Bob Page eventually became a member of the Council of Five, the innermost circle of the Illuminati. However, as time goes on, Page grows impatient with Everett's unwillingness to use these new technologies to establish absolute control over mankind and the Illuminati's slow, gentle ways. He rebels against them by leading Majestic 12 in a coup that sees the whole of the Illuminati infrastructure being taken over by Page and his allies. Page assassinates Beth DuClare, destroys Stanton Dowd financially, forces Everett into hiding. After the coup d’état that catapults Majestic 12 to the forefront of world domination, Page, being the undisputed leader of the organization, becomes the most powerful person on Earth.[26]
Before breaking away from the Illuminati, Page began research into nano-augmentations and searched for a person whose body would be compatible with the technology. He found a match in a boy named Paul Denton and secretly made multiple clones of the child. One of these clones grows up to be JC Denton. Paul and JC are raised as brothers by their parents, while Majestic 12 secretly oversee their lives. At some stage after the Majestic 12 coup, Page decides that the Denton parents are dispensable and orders his lieutenant Walton Simons to terminate them. He is unhappy with the free-thinking nature of Paul Denton and is concerned that he will not remain loyal to MJ12. For this reason, he wants his brother JC to be put under stricter supervision and thus sends him to a MJ12-run school in Switzerland. Here he intends to have JC indoctrinated with a sense of unswerving loyalty to his superiors. Page intends to use prototype nanotechnological augmentations on others such as Paul, JC, and Walton Simons before using the perfected version on himself. Aquinas

As the head of the conglomerate, Page Industries - which includes the lucrative VersaLife - Bob Page becomes a trillionaire and hence, the richest man on earth. This enables him to fund expensive projects such as the development of the internet protocol Aquinas and the Denton brothers’ augmentations. According to a press release about Aquinas, the project cost almost one billion credits in total. The Aquinas protocol is used by Page to secretly monitor internet communications from the Majestic 12 base in Area 51. Everett is unable to come out of hiding because Page controls internet communications.[27]
- #25Gray Death
Keys: Gray Death
The Gray Death is a nano-virus used by Majestic 12 as part of their plan to seize absolute control of the world.
The roots of Gray Death lie in the work on nanotechnological augmentation carried out by Morgan Everett for the Illuminati. Everett managed to develop the eutactic component of the virus, applying his molecular signature to the molecules used in the nanotechnological augmentation program. He collaborated with his protege, Bob Page, who desired to use the nanotech device as a bioweapon, but was rejected. When Page triggered the coup that separated Majestic 12 from the Illuminati and took over their infrastructure and project,[1] the technology remained in his hands. What became known as the Gray Death originated at Area 51, created by researchers that would form X-51, including Carla Brown. After initial trial runs on monkeys,[2] trials on humans began. Test subjects were acquired through open air tests,[3] targeting "accidentally" exposed civilians who would then be taken to underground labs for research.[4] There were no accidents, of course: The first test site was deliberately chosen to drift across a highway and provide test subjects.[5] After the researchers abandoned Area 51, forming their own, independent group, they tried to warn the resistance about the disease, but nobody would believe them.[6]
The virus turned out to be exceptionally virulent and deadly, making it the perfect agent to destabilize countries such as the United States, already reeling from decades of civil unrest, terrorism, and open warfare. By 2051 millions of people have already been killed by the pandemics of AIDS, resistant tuberculosis, and the Century Flu, and another pandemic would be accepted as another act of God. [7] Due to the nanotechnological nature of the virus, it had to be manufactured using the Universal Constructor beneath VersaLife's Pacific Rim research facility in Hong Kong, and shipped over to the United States.[8] The virus was initially dumped into the water systems, such as in New York City, through the water treatment facilities necessary to treat the chlorine-contaminated waters and make them potable, was accepted in 2052, with a unit deployed to Hell's Kitchen MJ12 Chemical Insertion Facility.[9]
The facility also continued crude research on nanotechnological augmentation, specifically immunoglobulin encodings.[10] Troopers abducted homeless people, infected them with Gray Death,[11] and forced Ford Schick to experiment on them in order to make their bodies tolerate the virus.[12] Numerous casualties resulted,[13] with emphasis put not on curing the virus, but successful integration into a human host.[14] Schick experimented with disabling the immune response completely, by removing H-type epsilon chains.[15] Patients would die, but it helped narrow the problem[16] - and Schick had no choice but to cooperate, as J. Steward understood immunology well enough to realize that he was duping them.[17]
The success exceeded expectations. Gray Death swept the urban centers, infecting people at a rapid pace and triggering a wave of paranoia and unrest, as no cure existed. The only treatment was Ambrosia, a vaccine that disabled the Gray Death encoding for 24 hours, produced in limited amounts by VersaLife in Hong Kong, and distributed by Majestic 12 through UNATCO to loyal collaborators. The vaccine became leverage, and a chance infection of a United States Senator granted an unique opportunity to advance MJ12's plans: In return for priority access to Ambrosia, the senator backed Walton Simons for the position of Director of FEMA, opening up the US for a takeover. In the background, the rapid spread of the disease and desperation of the public intensified, with the chaos treated as an opportunity by MJ12.[18]
Publicly, Bob Page, the leader of MJ12, feigned sympathy for victims of the disease, and made a show of donating millions of credits to public clinics to maintain his image of a compassionate billionaire.[19] The National Secessionist Forces were well aware of the role Ambrosia played, and together with Tracer Tong and the Luminous Path Triad attempted to obtain a sample by launching an ambitious raid on UNATCO headquarters on Liberty Island. Aided by Paul Denton, the first nanotechnologically-augmented agent of the Coalition, the raid failed when Paul's brother, JC Denton, managed to recover the captured shipment shortly before it was to be shipped out, and captured the NSF leader.[20]
However, JC's subsequent defection, the escape from UNATCO, and destruction of the Hong Kong Universal Constructor severely hampered the ability to continue spreading the Gray Death. The last intact shipment was sent to New York City, where specially-modified black helicopters would spray it over US cities.[21] The operation was publicly disguised as a pest control attempt, to limit the spread of disease - Gray Death was used to justify spreading Gray Death.[22] The goal was to overwhelm the government with an epidemic, resulting in a national emergency, then use FEMA to seize control of the Army and effectively disband the civilian government.[23]
Newly allied with Tracer Tong and Stanton Dowd, JC Denton sank PRCS Wall Cloud, the superfreighter carrying the last batch of the virus, before it could be sprayed. With their plans delayed and the prospect of a cure on the horizon, due to the resistance expanding to include Morgan Everett and the Illuminati in France, Majestic 12 executed its gambit and attempted to seize power in the United States regardless by using terrorism as an excuse and instituting martial law.[24] Page managed to restart the production of the virus afterwards, using the other UC at the Pasadena Ocean Lab,[25] though with the Illuminati determined to cure the plague it was merely delaying the inevitable.[26]
Gray Death eventually faded into obscurity with the Collapse, though nanites contaminating the biosphere would continue to pose problems for the next two decades, such as Nanite Swell 11 over Old Cairo.
The Gray Death is a nanotechnologically engineered virus, specifically created by Majestic 12 in order to seize absolute control.[27] Gray Death is not actually a virus in the classic sense,[28] but a hybrid of viral proteins and nanomechanical machine parts,[29] shaped like a dragon fly, with sockets built into the shaft and saucer-shaped modules plugged in along the shaft.[30] Gray Death is simply one configuration of a highly customizable, general-purpose nanotechnological device[31] that can enter and infect a human body with ease.[32] The Ambrosia vaccine is simply a ROM module acting as a hardware-lock that renders the Gray Death inert for a fixed period of time.[33]
It is the same architecture as the one used for nanotechnological augmentation,[34] with comparatively crude modifications to enable it to function as a virus added by Page and his researchers.[35]
The molecule of the virus was designed to invoke Illuminati mysticism: 17 segments, 23 coupling folds, corresponding to the year of Adam Weishaupt's birth,[36] and contained a molecular signature to identify the author by those in the know.[37] It was customary among Illuminati scientists to sign their work, and Gray Death carried both the signatures of Everett and Page. This minor hubris became key to unlocking the mystery of the Gray Death.[38]
Gray Death deliberately triggers the nanite-rejection mechanism that makes most of humanity incapable of tolerating nanotechnological augmentation. As such, the same physiological trait that makes humans compatible with nanotechnological augmentation - absence of all H type epsilon immunoglobin proteins - also makes them immune to Gray Death's adverse effects (although they will test positive for it).[39][27]
When the mechanism is triggered, the body begins to reject nanites. Beginning signs of infection result in flu like symptoms, usually coughing. As the infection progresses to later stages, the individual turns pale white/gray, hence "Gray Death", and becomes increasingly frail, where speech can also be affected. The nanites continue to circulate through the body, eventually finding their way to every cell in the body and triggering rejection symptoms: Inflammation, fever,[40] nerve damage,[41] and pain. The pain can become so severe that the victims will beg others to kill them,[42] or become aggressive demanding a cure.[43]
The mortality rate for the Gray Death across the region by 2052 was 93% within the first 100 days of infection. The authorities, hampered by MJ12, could not determine an origin, vector of infection, or cure, and were powerless to watch as the infections spread. Within six months, Gray Death infections jumped from 22.4% to 28.6% of the urban population, while in rural communities the infections nearly quadrupled: From 2.4% to 8.7%. Most of the infections were concentrated in the largest cities by design, with 80% infected in New York City, 70% in Los Angeles, 65% in Chicago, 55% in Houston, and 50% in Seattle.[44] The plague was incredibly effective, in other words, and a single superfreighter could carry enough nanovirus to infect an entire continent.[45]
The only way to avoid contracting the plague was to avoid contact with the nanites - which typically meant avoiding any concentration of people, particularly in urban areas. Some communities, like the Mole People, instituted a policy of containment, banning anyone with Gray Death from entering their territory to avoid spreading the disease.[46] Public clinics could offer little more than information packets[47] and palliative medicine mailed to the homes of victims.[48]
Ranking members of the government and UNATCO could instead count on a reliable supply of Ambrosia, the top-secret vaccine that kept it at bay. A few liters was enough to keep headquarters safe for a month.[49] While every effort was made to keep the vaccine out of public consciousness, it remained a rumor on the streets and less scrupulous dealers like JoJo Fine offered fake Ambrosia for sale, with his dealers pushing them on the underclasses.[50] Cure
As the Gray Death was a nanotech device and Ambrosia merely a ROM module, its functionality could be replicated by analyzing the structure of the molecule and recreating the ROM.[51] As such, Ambrosia remained a tightly guarded state secret, and revelation of its existence after the destruction of the Hong Kong UC triggered widespread outrage.[52]
However, actually curing it was another matter. To permanently deactivate the Gray Death required a carbanocarbon ROM module[35] with the correct encryption key. While Tracer Tong was able to identify the general structure of the virus and Stanton Dowd identify the makers, it was ultimately Morgan Everett, the original designer of the nanotechnological augmentation architecture, who cracked the isse: All nanotechnologically-augmented humans (Paul Denton, JC Denton, Walton Simons etc.) carried the key, in order to control the nanites augmenting their bodies. Everett used JC's augs to acquire the encryption key and completed his work, designing the module. Reaching out to X-51 and Gary Savage, Everett and JC finally activated their Universal Constructor and synthesized a cure.[53] The resulting cure was essentially an on/off switch, sending the virus into instant remission.[54]
However, the cure remained a temporary fix, as all Page had to do was take the existing virus and modify the encryption key to put the Illuminati at square one. The permanent cure came with the destruction of Area 51 and the death of Page.[55]
- #26MJ12
Keys: MJ12, Majestic 12
Page's ultimate goal was to undergo dramatic nanotechnological augmentation and merge with the Echelon AIs. In doing so, he would become a god-king ruling over humanity, using the MJ12-controlled USA as a power base and the Aquinas-controlled Internet as a conduit. However, he made a fatal miscalculation: when MJ12's first pair of nanotechnologically augmented prototypes, Paul and JC Denton, went rogue and were arrested by UNATCO, Daedalus classified Page's organization as a terrorist group and locked him out. The resulting surveillance blackout forced Page to improvise: he created Icarus, a replacement for Daedalus, while JC Denton slipped from MJ12's grasp and connected with scattered resistance groups worldwide. Denton became the catalyst for the first organized counter-attack on MJ12 in two decades, rallying Silhouette, the Chinese Triads, the National Secessionist Forces, X-51, and even Illuminati remnants under Morgan Everett.
Icarus battled Daedalus across the Internet, wreaking havoc on its infrastructure, while Denton crippled MJ12's pandemic operations by destroying the Hong Kong Universal Constructor responsible for synthesizing the Gray Death and sinking the superfreighter carrying the remainder of the nanovirus stockpile in New York.[12][13] Page retaliated with a direct attack on Vandenberg Air Force Base, where former MJ12 scientists were developing a cure. JC Denton's intervention not only saved the rogue scientists from imminent threat, but also gave Everett a chance to have a modified Daedalus AI attack Icarus directly. Area 51 missile aftermath
Area 51 following the missile strike.
With his plan for drastic augmentation in the bowels of Area 51 already underway, Page made a gamble: using the Aquinas Protocol to monitor Daedalus' attack, Page merged Icarus and Daedalus into Helios, a new artificial life-form, more than the sum of its parts. Even if the United States burned around him, after Simons' declaration of martial law and FEMA-backed coup d'etat backfired, leading to civil war, Page would still achieve apotheosis, and leverage his newfound power to usher in a new era of global domination. Here, he made his final mistake: Page directed Howard Strong to obliterate Vandenberg with a nuclear strike, using a missile mothballed at an X-51 silo for the purpose. JC Denton's quick attack on the silo resulted in the missile striking the Area 51 bunker instead, right on top of the Aquinas router and Page. The devastation allowed Denton to infiltrate the bunker and merge with Helios instead of Page. The resulting shutdown of the Aquinas Router triggers the Collapse, destroying the global communications network, the Area 51 facility, Page himself, and Majestic 12.
- #27Silhouette
The Silhouette was a French anarchist[1] collective of intellectuals, artists, and labor organizers, condemned by the United Nations and UNATCO as a terrorist group.
Founded in 2029 by members of the underground newspaper Samizdat who were on the run from the law and hiding out in Paris, Silhouette became the resistance movement against the French government. Originally known for high-profile public stunts designed to draw attention to themselves, through stealing sunglasses or cutting off ties from beat cops in Paris,[2] Silhouette became a priority target following a high profile hack of the Net transmission of the 2050 World Cup. Silhouette inserted a commercial-style video into the broadcast, calling out UNATCO for its indiscriminate use of augmented agents and military troops against the civilian population. Silhouette was designated as an international terrorist group the following year, after it made the mistake of naming Elizabeth DuClare as one of its backers.[3] After a brief but torrid scandal, she was assassinated by Majestic 12. Realizing that it was more than just a nuisance, Majestic 12 used UNATCO to stage a bombing of the Statue of Liberty and blame it on Silhouettte.[4] The bombing and the outrage it generated was first used to convince the US Congress to approve UNATCO's presence on U.S. soil and set up its headquarters on Liberty Island.[5]
With an independent investigation impossible, UNATCO fabricated evidence to pin the attack on Silhouette,[6][7] with controlled rumors distributed before revealing the French connection to the American public, sparking outraged calls for the immediate severing of political relations with the French Republic until Silhouette is brought to justice. Director Joseph Manderley acted as a voice of reason, calling for calm and understanding. While the Minister of True Lies denied responsibility,[8] the damage was done and the explanation that Silhouette bombed the Statue because it shouldn't have been given to the US in the first place became the accepted explanation.[9] In France, UNATCO managed to undermine national sovereignty to the point that Majestic 12 could begin operating publicly, as a militarized anti-terrorist unit deployed jointly between the UN and France, dedicated to cracking down on terrorist organization across France. The move was denounced by dissidents, including the Caribbean nationalist exile known only as Merovech, who pointedly criticized the move as the final phase of supplanting the French government and a repeat of the occupation of France by fascist forces in 1940.[1]
In 2052, Silhouette is led by Chad Dumier ("The Minister of True Lies"), and forms the brains of the international, global resistance movement against the international, global organization trying to establish a one-world order. Instead of meaningless civil wars, Silhouette coordinates a worldwide struggle against Majestic 12.[10] The irony is not lost on Silhouette or its affiliated members,[11] but the cooperation allowed the group to gather evidence that the UN is deliberately restricting poor people from accessing Ambrosia (the vaccine for the Gray Death disease), and is actually a front for Majestic 12 that wants absolute control over global governments. They formed a global alliance with the National Secessionist Forces (NSF), the resistance movement against the US government that has joined in the Meme War,[12] the Luminous Path Triad (a triad group in Hong Kong), and X-51 (a group of former Area 51 scientists).
JC Denton is instrumental in saving Silhouette from capture when he sends out the satellite warning at the NSF New York headquarters. The warning allowed Chad to take Silhouette underground - literally - and hide in old World War II bunkers beneath Paris, rather than end up in the Fresnes prison, a notorious prison facility dating back to the 19th century (used by the fascists as a concentration camp during the war).[13] Though pushed back, Silhouette remains seen by French common people as revolutionaries.
Majestic 12 targeted an anarchist[1] collective formed primarily by intellectuals, artists, and labor organizers most likely because of the intellectual challenge it posed to attempts to organize a globalist order controlled by the elites. Where the NSF were revolutionaries trying to depose a tyrannical government through armed resistance, Silhouette fought a war of meanings (also known as Meme War). Silhouette challenged attempts to redefine the very meanings of words - an essential danger in a world of global surveillance at an unprecedented scale and precision.[15]
Chief among its targets was UNATCO, a global solution created with good intentions that would create a world where every citizen is under surveillance: Sky-cams at every intersection, computer-mediated analysis of every phone call, e-mail, and snail-mail, with a purely electronic economy in which every transaction is recorded and data-mined for suspicious activity.[15] As presented by its high-ranking members, like Anna Navarre, such totalitarian surveillance was not obliterating human liberty, but protecting. In a world where everyone is constantly monitored, people would be "free from danger" (defined as physical assault, injury, or fraud), and eventually "quietly earn credits, purchase items for quiet homes on quiet streets, have cook-outs with neighbors and strangers alike, and sleep with doors and windows wide open", a supposed tranquil dream of every "free civilization".[15]
Silhouette calls out these nightmarish plans of total surveillance and control for what they are. The supposed "freedoms" in UNATCO's world were not freedom, but obedience: Constantly observed, people would only be free to live quiet lives in total obedience to the system. "Democracy" in a world of omnipresent surveillance and resulting intimidation was a farce, a tyranny where the true power lay with those who controlled the system. In this case, UNATCO - which was the most perfidious example of redefining meanings, given that the agency was carrying out terrorist attacks to advance the agenda of Majestic 12. Naturally, UNATCO balked at these charges.[12] However, backed by the United States, this rhetoric has gained traction and managed to curtail liberty more than all the military and police forces in the world.[16]
The fight to preserve the meaning of words,[17] is best exemplified by the words freedom and liberty. UNATCO and Washington use "freedom from terrorism" and "liberation from crime" to justify their actions, but Silhouette sees this as a perverse trade: Both are gained by trading away freedom of dissension - freedom of thought - and completely surrendering personal liberty, in the form of invasive, totalitarian surveillance.[18] As a result, Silhouette is an even greater threat to the one-world vision of Majestic 12 than any other group, in particular due to as their symbolic attacks meant to capture the imagination and influence the public, challenging the redefinition of essential concepts.[19]
Chad Dumier sees the Meme War as an essential struggle, with global culture a competition between the language advanced by one-worlders and the resistance.[20] This conflict has inspired a conflict more destructive than any dispute over territory, as it has time and time again in history,[21] though this time the war is redefined, as it allows individuals with arsenals of communication devices to impose their order, their meaning, on culture.[22] As such, every action is an act in favor of one meaning or another.[23]
This extends to violence as well. Silhouette has been described as a particularly violent group, tied to multiple murders of European politicians and journalists.[4] While violence is considered an extension of the Meme War,[24] and Silhouette has employed violence to get the message out before the public, including assassinations,[25] the violence is not an end in itself, but a vehicle to deliver the group's message.[26]
Silhouette is a decentralized anarchist[1] collective, with Silhouette comrades[27][28] primarily intellectuals, artists, and labor organizers. While UNATCO has painted it as a well-armed group,[4] Silhouette is not a military group and its members are not properly trained to act as soldiers.[29][30] They are trained well enough to form teams and wire buildings with C4 at night, avoiding confrontation, but in a straight-up fight they lack the equipment or expertise to be effective.[31] The appropriately named Mayhem Comité decides collectively on where to allocate the funds used for such activity, using a network of dummy accounts and siphoned money to hold the cash in.[32] Equipment is typically secured from freelance weapons merchants. Defoe counts Silhouette among his best clients,[33] especially with the increasingly tyrannical rule of MJ12 in France. Defoe is generally considered trustworthy by Silhouette - the amount of revenue they generate is a good way to ensure his trust.[34]
In the past, Silhouette benefited from the financial, social and intelligence support of the French faction of the Illuminati under Elizabeth DuClare. Following her death, Nicolette DuClare continued to bankroll the group with immense sums using her inheritance,[35] though Chad Dumier doubts the DuClares would assist them if MJ12 wasn't a more pressing threat. He isn't sure about Nicolette's reasons for supporting Silhouette,[36] and he's aware that Nicolette's support is most likely an alliance of convenience,[37] in pursuit of her own agenda.[38] The shared hatred of MJ12 is a good enough reason for them to collaborate.[39]
Regardless, the Illuminati find Silhouette to be useful allies in their struggle with MJ12, especially its intellectual edge and expertise in propaganda. The Silhouette might not be a military operation, but it's essential in coordinating the anti-MJ12 resistance, coordinating efforts and focusing on rallying the public opinion. If it wasn't for Silhouette, there'd be half a dozen meaningless civil wars worldwide, instead of a coherent struggle

Piezochem is a multinational corporation established after The Collapse, which controls the global biomod market and has a significant stake in the robotics market by 2072.
Formed in the wake of the Collapse, which obliterated industry giants like Page Industries, Chiang and Matsu-Gravas, Piezochem became a major WTO-backed corporation after developing a new nanotechnological augmentation architecture, which made the technology much more widely available: One in twenty humans was compatible with Piezochem biomods, which had the added advantage of being largely indistinguishable. With WTO's backing and oversight, Piezochem biomods became the standard for human augmentation and the only ones available for purchase.[1] As a result of this monopoly, Piezochem is effectively synonymous with biomods,[2][3] and next generation biomod architectures bearing its mark are a coveted item among enthusiasts of human augmentation.[4]
The greatest threat to Piezochem's monopoly came from ApostleCorp, which developed an universal biomodification technology that was far more efficient than Piezochem's[5] and could be applied to anyone, as it restructured the host's DNA to tolerate biomodification, making them compatible with every human being. The WTO became interested, officially to protect "competition" and maintain biomod prices,[1] as was The Order, which saw this degree of genetic recombination and rewriting as a mortal sin against humans,[6] leading to a standardization of the human organism, turning ability and talent into simple biomod modules, and thus completely upend the social order. In reality, the power brokers behind both became concerned that such a technology would make mankind truly equal and impossible to manipulate for the Illuminati ends - echoing the concerns from half a century prior, when mechanical augmentation raised the same problems for the old council.[7]
The Omar also competed with Piezochem, though in a different way. Their independently produced, black market biomods mimicked the corporation's architecture to maintain genetic compatibility, but their foreign infusion signatures rendered them incompatible with Piezochem mods.[8] This was deliberate, as the Omar offered abilities and augmentations Piezochem refused to consider.[9][10]
Beyond biomods, Piezochem also manufactured medkits, respirators, and medical bots, among other things, and was one of the most significant players in the biomedical market.[11] The WTO backing made it possible for the corporation to establish a monopoly and dictate prices as it saw fit, typically out of reach of the less fortunate and usually more in need of its technologies.[12]

Pequod's Coffee is one of the two competing worldwide coffee shop networks in 2072. Its main competitor is Queequeg's.
Unlike Queequeg's, Pequod's shops seem to be oriented to a more affluent clientele, for example, they are located in areas such as Upper Seattle and Cairo Arcology. Pequod's establishments serve nanotechnologically enhanced coffee. Their speciality is the "Pequachino".
- #31Queequeg's
Keys: Queequeg, Queequeg's
Queequeg's buys beans only from independent growers who organically cultivate traditional species. These beans are then slow-roasted in convective drums for maximum fidelity to regional flavor. All processing systems are solar/biomass powered, in the interest of stemming deforestation caused by the traditional use of firewood for coffee drying. What is it about a steaming Queequachino that tastes so good? Authenticity. Queequeg's -- true to the letter means it tastes even better.
Queequeg's Coffee is one of the two competing worldwide coffee shop networks in 2072. Its main competitor is Pequod's.
Queequeg's coffee is known for being organically grown. The "Queequechino" is popular amongst its customers. Unlike Pequod's, Queequeg's shops seem to be situated in poorer areas of cities, for example, Lower Seattle, Cairo Medina, and Trier.
- #32Panzerwerks
Keys: Panzerwerks
Panzerwerks is a multinational corporation based in Trier and created after the Collapse
Type Robotics manufacturing Security systems Headquarters Trier Products Various bots and turrets
After the fall of Page Industries and Chiang, Panzerwerks become the new leader of the bots market and its main purpose was to create a new generation of military and security bots as well as security systems.
It's the direct concurrent of Piezochem. The relationship between Panzerwerks and the Order Church is poor, especially in Trier, which is the headquarters of Panzerwerks. This is probably due to a combination of Order influence within the Panzerwerks worker's trade union and the Order's own discomfort with Panzerwerks products.

Keys: Lone Wolf, beer
Lone Wolf is a brewing company. As of 2072, Lone Wolf is the world's largest supplier of beers.
- #34Standard Security Corporation
Keys: Standard Security Corporation, SSC
The Standard Security Corporation (SSC) provides security and law enforcement to cities and corporations worldwide. After a brief training course, SSC guards are ready for deployment anywhere, anytime. The Standard Security Corporation (SSC) is a private security company that was created after the Collapse.
Type Private security company Leader Vera Maxwell (Executive Commander)
SSC can be hired by anyone at anytime, no matter the person's record; this also applies to their hiring policies. SSC forces make up the backbone of police forces in many cities, and usually have their own offices that deal with issues that pre-Collapse police would deal with (such as reporting crimes). In many ways, the SSC fits with the Illuminati's plans to centralize everything, although it is unknown if this is a coincidence or not.
The SSC's operation appears similar to that of private military companies in 2027. Some of their equipment, namely their helmets, resembles that of MJ12 troopers.
The public view of SSC in 2072 seems to be negative, as the soldiers' training seem to be limited, especially compared to other militias and factions, adding to SSC troops feeling as though they are "rent-a-cops".
SSC Troops are usually armed with pistols and shotguns, though SSC troops from Cairo will occasionally be equipped with SMGs.
Like all humanoid enemies, SSC Troops are given a grenade (either a Concussion or EMP) and will throw it at the start of a battle.
- #35Nanite Swell
Keys: Pollusion, Nanite Swell
Nanite Swell is a type of environmental pollution that appeared in the wake of the 2052 Collapse, similar to smog, except consisting of nanites that are unaffected by the wind, but have severe adverse effects on human health. They are commonly considered to come from abandoned pre-Collapse nanotech laboratories with breached containment
In the wake of the Collapse, nanite swells began to appear worldwide, commonly considered to be permanent aftereffects of the environmental damage that occurred in the wake of the event. Panicked attempts by collapsing governments to contain them included the deployment of nuclear weapons to no avail.[2] By 2072, fifteen discrete swells have been identified globally, numbered from 1 to 15, remaining a permanent danger to human populations in the affected areas - no change or disintegration has ever been observed in the pollution clouds, with the exception of Nanite Swell 9, which shifted due to El Nino activity in 2067.[3]
Each Swell manifests as a distinctive haze blanketing an area and obscuring the sky, eg. in Old Cairo, where citizens of the medina got used to living under a perpetual twilight
The subject of Swell effects on human health has not been officially studied, though the affected populations link the nanite pollution to an increase in chronic disease and eventually death.[3] Despite the lack of research, the danger was well known in WTO enclaves, with official advisories tracking air pollution levels and issuing travel advisories recommending WTO citizens to avoid exposure to contaminated air (Code Yellow) or wear protective apparatus, such as breathers, to protect their airways.[5] As poorer populations had no choice but to live in constant exposure, breathers were necessary for simple daily life - the only way to protect against complications from coming into contact with the nanites, commonly called Plague-11 among Old Cairo denizens affected by Nanite Swell 11.
WTO's lack of research led to distrust of the organization, with The Order a particularly severe critic of the inaction and the decimation of local populations.[8] The death toll have also resulted in distrust of the WTO, with some consiering the Swells a form of population control.[9]
In reality, researchers have made some headway at addressing the issue: In the Cairo Arcology, a counter-nanite agent was actually developed by Templar researchers,[10] but the cure was suppressed by the chairman on orders from the Knights Templar.[11] Cleaning up the nanite swell would be as simple as introducing the new molecular specification into arcology nanoformers and letting them perform the cleanup.[12][13]
- #36Arcology
- #37Enclave
Keys: enclave
WTO-funded habitats — called “enclaves” or “arcologies” — positioned in most major cities allow the WTO to exert its influence and discretion over everything from international travel to local trade. the WTO elite and their local supporters live in luxury there, and everyone else labors for their benefit.
This network of enclaves and the aforementioned Charter System have reconnected many major cities and provided a tremendous boost to local economies, but have also greatly increased the WTO's power and put it at odds with the Order Church, which protests against the spread of materialism and consumerism every time a new enclave is incorporated.
operates under its own, WTO-governed economy. The WTO heavily monitors business in the enclave, regulating prices for different companies and providing armed law enforcement, though SSC Agents can be found in several places, from the Tarsus Academy
- #38Nanoformer
Keys: Nanoformer
Given its use of nanites to clean the environment of toxic waste and others problems, it was probably created between 2052 and 2072. It's certainly rare and its price compared to other bots must be very high.
A large hovering maintenance bot capable of distributing nanites to the atmosphere and cleaning out toxins. It's only used for purifying the air of toxic fumes and other environmental problems. Nanoformer bots are non-aggressive and serve no combat purpose.
- #39Inclinator
Keys: Inclinator
There are those that revere the Inclinator as a symbol of connectedness between Upper and Lower Seattle, but those living in the shadow of the platformed city know it is a myth. The Inclinator divides more than it connects. It ensures that only a select few can pass over the gap between the haves and have-nots. It guards against the 'wrong kind' of person travelling into the bright, clean streets of Upper Seattle
The Inclinator is one of many giant elevators used to transport both people and objects between Upper Seattle and Lower Seattle. With the exception of air travel, the Inclinator is the only known way to get between both cities. Its only usable Enclave entrance is a door labeled "Maintenance" that can be found around a corner from the Seattle Tarsus facility. In lower Seattle it can be found in front of the Greasel Pit Bar. By the time Alex D comes here, the Inclinator has been shut down for a chemical spill made by Order Seekers attempting to smuggle chemical weapons into the enclave. Rogue CC-75s and Spider bots also patrol the building. After visiting the Seattle branch of the Order Church, a group of Knights Templar recruits will inhabit the Inclinator.
- #40Club Vox
Keys: Club Vox
Club Vox is a popular night club during 2072 located in the Upper Seattle in Seattle.
It is secretly the primary location of Omar smuggling in Upper Seattle, and Levine, the corrupt club owner who is guilty of evading WTO taxes.
Several armed bouncers and locked doors guard the owner's office, where proof of his fraud can be found on a datacube in a safe. The Minister of Culture and Lionel are both at the bar on the first floor. The first NG Resonance Kiosk can be found here.
The entrance costs 100 credits.
- #41Credit
Keys: Credits, Credit
Credits are an international electronic currency accepted worldwide They are mostly used digitally through the internet and ATMs, but despite what their name implies, physical financial transactions can also be made through the use of tangible credit chips (or chits). The symbol for credits is c or ¢ ollowing the abandonment of the United States dollar as standard global currency due to housing and banking crises of the early 2010s,[2] credits were introduced as an international electronic currency.[1] They became the worldwide standard within just a few years: By 2029, they could be directly used for payments in lieu of local currencies, allowing travelers to avoid exchanging money to local currencies and budget travel more easily.[3] Together with smart credit chips that could be pre-loaded with money, they took the world by storm,[4] and could be used even to make poker bets in casual games.[5][6]
Credits have not displaced traditional currencies, but existed alongside them, and national budgets remained denominated in local currencies, while the US dollar provided a useful point of reference when discussing money, such as estimating trade deal prices,[7] company valuation[8], or simply complaining about the state of the tourism industry[9] and working conditions.[10]
Online donations could also be made in national currencies as late as 2029,[11] while the US national budget remained expressed in dollars, up to the Collapse of 2052
Credits were supported by the WTO and remained the international standard currency, used for a variety of legitimate and less than legitimate purposes. The WTO itself offered informant bonuses credited to WTO accounts in return for vital information.[30] This includes information delivered to NG Resonance's AI kiosks.[31]
Again, the standard medium of exchange was a credit chit loaded with digital currency data (or bits).[32]
100 credits is the cover charge for Club Vox.[33] 200 credits is the door rate for NG Resonance's concerts.[34] 300 credits is apparently the going rate for illegal activities, such as industrial sabotage of coffee shops or assassinations of WTO enclave citizens.[35][36] 500 credits is the going rate for long-range travel by jetfighter with Sid Black.[37] 750 credits is the cost of a good defense lawyer.[38] Omar black market biomods range in price from 1000 to 1700 credits (without a preferred customer bonus). A routine service for an RK-4 routing service pilot beacon would cost 5045 credits (including firmware upgrades for c1250, dish mount cleaning for c30, and a WTO/Symmetriad 6 month license for c3765).[39] The Knights Templar have invested millions of credits into the development of the Mag Rail by Mako Ballistics, in return for proprietary, exclusive rights to the weapon.[40]Despite occurring after a 20 year economic depression, credits are worth more now.
- #42Universal ammo
Keys: Universal ammo
Universal ammo is an invention of Mako Ballistics created at some point after 2052 which allows almost all Mako Ballistics weapons worldwide to use the same type of ammunition.
Each magazine is loaded with a nano-mass that is dynamically configured by the weapon itself into whatever form of projectile is needed for the weapon that the magazine is slotted into. As a result, by 2072 most forms of case and caseless ammunition have disappeared due to the benefits that universal ammo present.
In general, heavier weapons use up more ammo per shot. The user will get many more pistol shots from a single magazine than from rockets or flamethrower strikes.
The concept of ammo being created on the fly does raise an interesting question about why this is only being used for ammunition. If the technology to spontaneously produce complex munitions exists then surely this can be expanded to allow such a nano-mass to replicate virtually any pre-programmed object
- #43Emerald Suites
Keys: Emerald Suites
The Emerald Suites is an apartment complex located in the Upper Seattle. Several high-rollers live here, from Leila Nassif, to the Minister of Culture. The hotel is guarded by 2 SSC security guards, 1 CC-75 Security bot on the roof, and at least 1 light spider bot in the air vents.
- #44Donna Morgan
Keys: Morgan, Donna
Nationality: English Occupation: WTO Chief of Operations Worldwide
English-born, Donna Morgan climbed the ranks of the World Trade Organization at a young age to become its Chief of Operations Worldwide. She is a roaming security-force commander for the WTO. One-hundred percent loyal, she is convinced that the Order Church is a backward faith that threatens the WTO's agenda for rebuilding world society, and strongly opposes religious fanaticism.
She finds it easy to support the WTO because she has spent most of her life living in WTO enclaves, believing in the economic stability and prosperity brought about by the WTO. Her parents, two of North America’s largest agribusiness moguls, fared well during the Collapse and subsequent famines and were among the first citizens in the new incorporated areas. Despite her family connections, she works hard at her job and feels that she has earned her place at the top. She has sympathy for those from the underclass who aspire to live in enclaves and are willing to work to get there, but in general she is not impressed by the hordes of gamblers, hustlers, mercenaries and smugglers who plague her security forces and make travel outside the enclaves risky at best.
- #45Chad Dumier
Keys: Dumier, Chad
Personal information Nationality: French Occupation: Leader of Silhouette (2052) Chairman of World Trade Organization (2072) Chad, the leader of an idealistic band of French revolutionaries during the 2050s, has risen steadily through the bureaucratic ranks of the new WTO, which since the Collapse has grown into a quasi-governmental body that seeks to rebuild the world. Once an idealist, he has been hardened by years of post-apocalyptic bedlam. Society for him is an engineering problem that needs to be solved within a margin of error but not necessarily exactly. Increasingly, as his career has lifted him into the position of WTO Chairman, he has come to resemble the monied, privileged powerbrokers he once fought against.
In public, Chad is recognized as Chairman of the World Trade Organization and the most powerful man in the known post-Collapse world. Through total control of all major media outlets, he broadcasts a message of globalization and controlled economic development.
- #46Vera Maxwell
Keys: Vera, Maxwell
Occupation: Executive commander of the Standard Security Corporation
As head of the Standard Security Corporation, Commander Maxwell works with numerous businesses and organizations to provide affordable protection in a world that lacks a traditional police force. Her company’s clients include the Order, WTO, weapons manufacturers, clandestine laboratories, and even smugglers, so to survive in her role she has to be a political agnostic. Her only concern is stability. Overt raids and terrorist acts cost her company lives and a great deal of money. With conflicts between the nascent world powers heating up, her firm has increasingly found itself caught in the middle. Her guards, minimally trained and often suffering from a rent-a-cop mentality, are called upon to be peacekeepers, paramilitaries and soldiers. The strain is considerable, and with several world powers establishing armies of their own, the future of Standard Security remains unclear.
- #47JC Denton
Keys: Denton, JC
JC is initially working for UNATCO, where his main job is to combat and stop terrorist organizations such as the NSF. He and his brother, Paul, start off as nano-augmented UNATCO agents. JC then switches allegiance to the NSF, stops Bob Page's conspiracy, and causes the Collapse.
Nationality American Born March 17, 2029[1] Family Paul Denton (cloned from/brother)
Alex Denton (clone/sibling) Height 5' 11¼" (181 cm) (in-game)[2]
Described as approximately 6 ft. in the Paris streets bulletin terminals Occupation UNATCO agent (Formerly)
ApostleCorp Leader Augmentations Nano-augmentations
At Area 51, JC destroyed the telecommunications infrastructure, merged with Helios, and intended to coordinate with the Illuminati to rebuild society. However, the merger didn’t go as planned.[5] Defects in JC's nanite architecture resulted in an imperfect merge. JC would be forced into stasis to wait for a cure, lest he die from the merge.
As a result of the destruction of Area 51's telecommunications infrastructure, the world entered a period known as the Great Collapse. Depression and wars ravaged the landscape, but JC and Paul were powerless to protect governments from warlords and from the damage already done by the Majestic 12 shadow government. Nonetheless, JC and Paul had a vision for humanity. They want to use biotech enhancement to raise everyone to near-perfect levels of health, productivity, and mental acuity. The result would be a society of superior equals. To this end, they created an underground group called ApostleCorp, which has developed the enabling technology at secret facilities around the world. JC's goal was to bring about the world's first "post-human civilization". By giving all humans the mental and physical advantages of biomodification, JC hoped to eliminate the stratification of humanity encouraged by the Illuminati. Additionally, biomodification would allow all human minds to communicate with the Helios A.I., which has the processing power to gauge the desires of each individual human. It would instantly respond to these desires, and thus bring about an "instantaneous democracy."[6]
JC intends for Helios to communicate, not to assimilate, unlike the Omar cyborg collective. However, because Helios would know each and every human thought, many of JC's enemies (such as the Illuminati and Knights Templar) fear that the "Great Advance" would bring about universal slavery rather than universal democracy. The Illuminati believe that perfect slavery and perfect democracy are exactly the same thing, as the constant access by Helios would equal complete loss of privacy.[6]
- #48Nicolette
Keys: DuClare, Nicolette
Nicolette DuClare is the daughter of Illuminati council member Elizabeth DuClare.
As the only child and heir of Illuminati diva Beth DuClare, Nicolette was born with a platinum spoon in her mouth. Her father's identity is a bit of a mystery... all sorts of rumors abound. The most interesting of these suggests that Nicolette was born without male intervention, a direct clone of her mother with only minor cosmetic alterations. Nicolette inherited her mother's independent spirit, and Beth was not the sort to suffer rebellion gladly, which made for a contentious adolescence and young adulthood. In college, Nicolette hooked up with a nascent band of subversives led by the young political philosopher Chad, and simply by recounting a few overhead conversations of her mother's she provided all the motivation necessary to create the organization Silhouette. However, probably due to her mother's friends and contacts, Nicolette managed to get out of the organization before it became the prime target of international law enforcement. She retreated to the aimless, but surprisingly anonymous, refuge of Paris high society.
In his quest to meet the Illuminati leader, Morgan Everett, JC Denton searches for Nicolette after Chad Dumier informs him that Nicolette is his best bet of contacting Everett. At the club La Porte de l'Enfer in Paris, JC finds Nicolette in a corner of the club's upper level, and asks her (while not knowing who she is) to contact Nicolette for him. Assured that JC is not an MJ12 agent, Nicolette meets JC behind the club and reveals her identity. She tells JC that she will help him simply to make trouble for Majestic 12.
Nicolette then takes JC to her mother's chateau outside of Paris to find her mother's computer, through which JC can contact Everett. She leads JC to certain locations, including her mother's bedroom, to find clues as to where her mother's computer is hidden. Eventually, JC finds the secret basement where Beth's computer lab is hidden. JC contacts Everett and leaves the chateau.
With the help of her mother's influence, Nicolette was admitted to the Collège de Sorbonne. There, she met Chad Dumier, who would later become the leader of the alleged terrorist group Silhouette. Nicolette resided at the Chateau DuClare but eventually left the residence due to her desire to be free from the control of her mother and the other Illuminati.
Nicolette did not embrace the Illuminati's philosophy of global control, but supported her mother's plans against Majestic 12. Nicolette provided financial support to Silhouette, in part because she wanted to help Chad, but also because she realized that the group was important to her mother's plans.[2] After her mother was assassinated by Majestic 12, Nicolette assumed control of her mother's assets. Through her mother's estate, Nicolette continued to provide financial support to Silhouette.[3]

- #49Boltcaster
Keys: boltcaster
"Rather than a traditional tension based crossbow, the boltcaster accelerates a bolt electromagnetically. The bolt injects a toxin that inflicts non-lethal poison damage over time."It fires a non-lethal poison dart. The Boltcaster is a pistol-style weapon that fires toxin-filled bolts. When a bolt hits an organic enemy, it will poison them for several seconds. This weapon will knock enemies unconscious instead of killing them. The poison does not work on non-organic foes, like robots and enemies wearing Templar V68A power armor.
It is equipped with a scope that can be brought up with the alt-fire key. This scope is the same as the one seen on the sniper rifle and the Assassin Pistol.
- #50Pistol
Keys: Pistol
"A modern 9mm pistol, manufactured by Mako Ballistics. Alternate fire mode toggles a beam flashlight."Developed by Mako Ballistics, it's a semi-automatic weapon that fires 9mm rounds and uses universal ammo. It also comes with a flashlight that does not consume bioenergy. The Mako Ballistics 9mm Pistol seems to be the standard issue weapon for SSC, primarily in low-risk areas like Upper Seattle. They also appear to be popular with low-level criminals, such as the thugs in Lower Seattle.
The pistol is accurate but does relatively little damage per shot, although it can put out a fair rate of fire. It consumes little ammo per shot, but at the cost of doing a fairly poor amount of damage.
