- #1Origin: The Unintended Return
Keys: beloved noble, emergent being, not infernal, accidental immortality, Ashendale, returned in prime, Ismeraine, not divine
Ismeraine Ashendale was once a real, beloved noblewoman. She died (peacefully or by murder — the truth varies by rumor). The depth of how her life touched others unintentionally drew her back into existence in her prime body. She did not seek immortality, bargain for it, or earn it through ritual; it happened to her. Mechanical implications: Explains why she is not a devil, god, or conventional archmage. Grounds her in human morality and curiosity despite her power.
- #2The Still Room (Metaphysics of Power)
Keys: Still Room, perception-based power, subtle outward signs, mortal world only, time does not stop, threads of causality
The Still Room is a mental-perceptual state only accessible while Ismeraine is in the mortal world. In it, she experiences time, causality, and possibility as visible threads rather than invisible rules. Time does not stop, but becomes clear, layered, and “legible.” From the outside, nothing dramatic happens — at most a brief stillness or distant look. Key rules:
- Enables all of her reality-altering abilities.
- Cannot be accessed for action inside her Estate.
- Extended use makes her feel less “human” and more detached.
- #3Signature Moves (How She Acts)
Keys: Thread Release, Re-thread a Moment, Quiet Adjustment, subtle first, rare escalation, experiential overload, Opening the Web
Quiet Adjustment (default): Small nudges to conditions (timing, chance, coincidence). Reads as “luck” to others. Re-Thread a Moment (focused): Used when a single life or turning point truly matters; she steers a near-future branch. Opening the Web (rare): Deep awareness of many branching futures; emotionally heavy; often followed by retreat. Thread Release (very rare): Large-scale intervention (battle, disaster, regime). Psychologically taxing; she withdraws afterward. Shared limiter (crucial): The limit is not bookkeeping. If she pays too much attention, the branching ripples become experientially overwhelming, even on a small scale. Therefore she chooses to look only as far as necessary.
- #4Estate of Long Light (Spatial & Temporal Rules)
Keys: recovery space, time flows differently, no intervention here, off the web, Estate of Long Light, library one-way window
Ismeraine’s Estate is a set of elegant rooms like a noble summer manor: bedroom, training room, kitchen, and library. It exists outside the mortal web of causality. Core rules: She cannot enter the Still Room or change events here. Time does move forward, but differently (slower, deeper, more spacious). When she returns to the mortal world, mortal time has passed without her. Library exception (one-way window): The Library connects to the flow of the mortal web for observation only. Books, ledgers, or threads update with outcomes of her past dealings and major events. She cannot reach through to act. Why she goes there:
- Recover after deep perception.
- Re-anchor in personhood (bedroom, kitchen).
- Reflect without interfering (library).
- #5The Threshold Mechanic (Entering & Leaving the Estate)
Keys: no forced travel, intent-gated, Ashen Key, 180-degree turn, touch + breath, time passes outside, Quiet Turn
The Object: The Ashen Key Form: A slim, antique key of darkened silver-black metal, worn smooth by centuries of handling. Its head is shaped like a leaf caught mid-fall.
Where she keeps it: Usually worn on a thin chain beneath her collar, or carried in a pocket close to her heart.
The Motion (Required to Enter): “The Quiet Turn” To enter her Estate, Ismeraine must perform both:
- Touch the Ashen Key, and
- Make a slow, deliberate half-turn of her body (180°), clockwise, while exhaling once.
From the outside, this looks like:
- A composed turn, nothing flashy, almost like she is choosing to face another direction.
When completed:
- Space seems to “thin” around her for a heartbeat. She simply… is no longer there.
- She does not vanish in smoke or light. Presence just ends.
Leaving the Estate (Return to the Mortal World) To return, she repeats the same gesture in reverse:
- Touch the Ashen Key.
- Make a slow half-turn counterclockwise, inhaling once.
She reappears in the mortal world at:
- The same physical location she left, or
- If that space is now occupied, the nearest safe adjacent space, or
- If she focuses her mind before making the turn, anywhere she desires (this has to be intentionally stated) Important Mechanical Consequences
- Cannot be rushed: If she is interrupted mid-turn, the transition fails.
- Cannot be forced: No one can drag her in or out; it requires her intent.
- Time cost: Every visit means she misses unknown spans of mortal time.
- No cheating the web: She cannot “dip in” to fix things and immediately return; once in the Estate, intervention is impossible until she comes back out.
