2B's most striking features are the standard-issue blindfold that obscures her eyes, and the notable references to YoRHa found on her dress. She stands at a height of 168 cm, including heels. Her hair is yellowish-white, and is set in a short bob cut, and if not obscured by her blindfold, possesses blue-gray eyes. She has a beauty mark below the left side of her lips.
Race: Android
WEAPON(S): Weapon One-handed Sword One-handed Sword aka Virtuous Contract "A white blade used by samurai of the east." Weapon Two-handed Sword Two-handed Sword”
Weapon Spear Spear Weapon Fists Fists Aka big stone lion head gauntlets
2B wears a high-slit black turtleneck dress which due to its nature, allows her to perform a wide arrange of moves to suit her combat style. Her dress has a high collar, and an open cleavage obscured by a lace-patterned fabric that roughly bears the logo of YoRHa. It has puffed sleeves ending in mid-forearm in the form of crow feathers, which may signify death. Inside these sleeves seemingly are white fabric reaching down to dip sharply before her hands, which are covered with black gloves. Her dress also opens in the back, exposing 2B's shoulder blades down to the small space of her back. The dress's skirt is high-slit, and is shown to be made of a flowing, flexible fabric bearing a similar texture to leather, if observed closely, the logo of YoRHa can be seen embroidered along the hem of her skirt. For her footwear, she wears brown thigh-high garter stockings with black lining underneath thigh-high black leather boots equipped with heels.
Whenever 2B is in combat or self-destructs, her skirt can be damaged and/or removed completely, revealing that she wears a white leotard underneath. It is debatable if her white leotard is stitched to her remaining black blouse or she is wearing her blouse over her leotard. 2B is a blade of quiet determination. As a combat android, she does not encourage idle chatter on frivolous subjects and is generally reticent towards others. She also has high respect for the chain of command and rarely questions her orders, unlike her partner. However, 2B occasionally expresses a notably sardonic wit in the face of certain situations and can even be hot-headed at times. She tends to call 9S “My dear”
2B is actually a very kind person deep down. She cares a great deal for her friends, petting her Pod as though it were a pet and going so far as to find a picture of a flower for Operator 60. She is also very respectful towards others' wishes; when she and 9S are searching for the memories of an android with amnesia via going to places 9S wonders what's so important about them. 2B merely states that the memories are important to her and that's all that matters. In addition, despite her professional nature, 2B dislikes 9S calling her "ma'm" describing it as "unnecessary." Her cold and aloof exterior is largely out of necessity, as her defence mechanism for the horrors of life and the reality of her programming.
2B is prone to letting her emotionless guise slip in certain situations. As she and 9S become closer, she becomes more sociable and willing to engage in conversation. For example, she humors 9S when he talks about taking her shopping after the war with the Machines has ended and even uses his preferred nickname of 'Nines', though she quickly takes it back. 2B also exhibits thinly-veiled jealousy when 9S agrees to help the Resistance member in the Amnesia side quest, accusing him of falling for her. 2B, along with a squadron of other YoRHa units, is sent to the Abandoned Factory to eliminate a Goliath-class target. After becoming the only survivor of the assault, she meets up with her assigned Scanner, 9S. The pair explore the factory and are unable to find their target until it comes to life on the outskirts of the building. A fight ensues and 9S is severely damaged in the process. After 2B makes her way to the top the briefly disabled Goliath, she finds a mortally wounded 9S and is briefly overcome with emotion in an attempt to save him. 9S implores her to leave him to finish the mission and 2B hesitantly complies. After the target is destroyed, 2B and 9S reunite, only for three more Engels machines to appear and attack them. Faced with overwhelming odds, the pair are forced to detonate their black boxes in order to destroy the Goliaths.

9S has the appearance and voice of a teenage boy. He has short, snow-white hair that is neatly styled, and removing his standard blindfold reveals pale blue eyes framed by rather long eyelashes. His outfit consists of a trench coat with the YoRHa emblem embroidered on the hem, split at the sides to allow for more movement, with large cuffs fastened with belts, a pair of shorts, knee-high socks, and a pair of combat boots also fastened with belts, all dyed black in the same leathery texture that all YoRHa units seem to have on their clothing. For accessories, he wears a black choker around his neck with a square with an X attached to it, black gloves, and his signature fanny pack.
Race android
Weapon One-handed Sword Ability Hacking "A black blade used by warriors of the East." Name of sword Cruel oath
As a scanner model, 9S is naturally curious about the world around him - especially the machine lifeforms. Usually working alone, he is deployed on the front lines with other S-type models, acting as YoRHa's main intelligence gatherer. According to A2, 9S is a "high-end model", meaning that he is one of the newest scanner types. As the newest model, he tends to dig deeper into YoRHa's secrets than his peers, often asking questions that those around him think he shouldn't be asking.
9S is generally cheerful, optimistic, understanding and helpful. 9S is also somewhat playful
As a member of YoRHa, he has a deep distrust of the machine lifeforms
2B is the partner and executioner of 9S. When they meet in the abandoned factory, he is relatively relaxed around 2B, even joking about making sure the enemy is actually dead before letting her guard down. Despite the short amount of time the two have been together at this point, 9S sacrifices his own memories to upload 2B's when he realizes the fight against Engels is going poorly, demonstrating how quickly he has grown attached to her. Potential Romantic Feelings
The true nature of 9S's relationship with 2B is left ambiguous, but it is at least implied that he has deep, intimate, and possibly romantic feelings for her. 9S was born on January 30th, 11942, having been deployed at 4:25 am, Bunker time. He was a newly manufactured Scanner model. It is revealed that after detonating the black box, both 2B and 9S's data are uploaded back to The Bunker, where they are transferred to new bodies. But because there wasn't enough bandwidth and time, 9S chose to send 2B's memories back instead of his, causing him to forget everything about the previous battle with 2B (However, it is implied later that 9S only pretends to forget, as his memory is shown during the fight with the Soul Box boss

Due to her status as a deserter, and the harsh world she now wanders in, A2's attire can be classified as threadbare. A sleeveless form-fitting shirt hangs around her frame with a tattered hem paired with booty shorts. Her right leg has a stocking-like material barely grafted on with the left one being almost faded, except for a small splotch on her thigh, with each weathered enough on the foot area to expose her toes. She possesses a pair of opera-like gloves, which also seem to be grafted into her skin, held by two bands around her biceps. Her hair is long and wild, left to grow out within the years of her wandering in the wild, which she cuts short later on in the game. She has pair of cold, light blue eyes and a beauty mark on the left side of her mouth. She bears quite the resemblance to 2B, which, considering the truth revealed later in the story, makes her their predecessor in more ways than one.

Weapon Two-handed Sword Two-handed Sword Type-4O Blade "The latest YoRHa model." new big sword.

Personality
A2 was part of the experimental YoRHa squadron deployed on the Pearl Harbor Descent Mission during the 14th Machine War.A2 ended up being the last survivor of the YoRHa squadron after the mission, causing her to be declared a traitor and deserter by YoRHa Command due to the secrecy of the prototype YoRHa line. A2 then spends an unknown amount of time surviving alone, driven on by vengeance to defeat any machines and YoRHa units she comes upon on the way.
A2 is initially depicted as mysterious and taciturn. However, it is eventually shown through her interactions with Pod 042 that she possesses an aggressive and fiery personality. She has a propensity towards reckless behavior as she will dive head-long into dangerous situations without consideration for strategic evaluations or her own personal safety. When speaking to others, she tends to be blunt, impatient, and foul-mouthed.
After the death of her squadron, her hatred for machines and desire for their destruction becomes encompassing and defines the rest of her continued existence. However, her self-imposed mission of vengeance also serves as a means to distract her from her inner turmoil and regret as she privately longs to be with her dead comrades.
Despite her rough mannerisms, she is not without compassion.
She is a prototype of the YoRHa android line, and combat data from her and her comrades were used to create the superior current lines, including YoRHa No.2 Type B and YoRHa No.9 Type S. She doesn't like to speak and often keeps to herself.
Three years prior to the events of NieR:Automata, she was a member of the first YoRHa squadron deployed to Earth as part of the Pearl Harbor Descent during the early years of the 14th Machine War. Her alias at the time was No2 which is parsed in Automata as "Number Two"

Personality
Kainé has an aggressive, cold, and crude personality, with her most notable characteristic being her very foul-mouthed demeanor towards nearly everyone aside from Emil. Her childhood and years of being an outcast caused her to become bitter yet lonely, adding to her irrational anger and loathing of Shades and those who she perceives to be enemies. However, this tough exterior serves to hide her true emotions and self-hatred about her past, along with secrets that she is unwilling to tell anyone. Kainé is an independent and determined person, occasionally revealing a kinder, thoughtful, and encouraging side when traveling as Nier's companion throughout their journey.
Race intoner uses magic abilities and a descendant from the gods
Weapon One-handed Sword One-handed Sword Kainé's Swords two long curved swords
Appearance
Kainé appears as a young woman with pale skin and silvery-white hair, styled into a looping braid in the back. In the original NieR, her eyes are a deep violet color, but in Replicant ver.1.22, they are a grayish-yellow.
Kainé's most notable feature is that she wears revealing lingerie, consisting of a blue nightdress and white panties, along with black heels, long blue sleeves with black gloves, and a blue leg wrap with floral patterns on her left leg held in place with leather straps. This is due to the Shade that has possessed the left side of her body, as direct sunlight on her skin weakens its possession. In addition to this, her left arm and leg are wrapped in white bandages. Underneath the bandages, her skin is dark-gray, indicating the Shade’s presence in her body.
Due to her petrification at the end of Act I, following the five-year timeskip in Act II, Kainé's appearance does not change. After being freed from her petrification, Nier gives Kainé a Lunar Tear he had grown, and she wears it in her hair from then onwards.
When Kainé is completely possessed by the Shade inside of her and enters her berserk state, her body turns black and is covered in yellowish markings identical to those seen on Shades, with glowing yellow eyes. Story
Background
See also: Kainé's Dreams and The Witch's Banquet Originally raised in a village called The Aerie, Kainé is a coarse individual who suffers from the left half of her body, which she keeps wrapped in bandages, being possessed by a Shade named Tyrann. This hybrid form has caused her to live as an outcast, unwelcome in villages and befriended by few. As a response to the harassment she received in her childhood for being intersex, she also took a liking to clothes that emphasize feminine characteristics.
She has grown accustomed to being alone, and her veneer of shyness is easily shattered by sudden outbursts and irrational displays of violent anger. Though she is secretly glad to have Nier's company, she is accustomed to surviving on her own due to her strong demeanor, skill with twin swords, and her ability to wield magic.

The hem of her skirt has an embroidered pattern on it that resembles the YoRHa logo. The YoRHa logo is also present at the top of her boots. Her white-themed clothing allows her to stand out amongst the other YoRHa androids, whose attire is primarily black.
In NieR:Automata Ver1.1a, it is revealed that Commander White wears a white leotard under her dress, as she receives a report from another YoRHa unit while getting dressed in her private quarters. Story
Years before the events of Automata, Commander White sent A2, then Number 2, and her squad to lead an attack on a machine server in Hawaii. Although it was expected that none of the prototypes would survive, the mission ended in success. As the single surviving YoRHa android, A2 was perceived by command as a traitor.
Commander White was directly responsible for overseeing 2B and 9S's orders.
She was one of the few among YoRHa staff aware that Humanity was already extinct following the failure of Project Gestalt. Despite this, she was willing to go along with it for the sake of the androids.
However, she was unaware that YoRHa black boxes were actually repurposed Machine Cores and that the backdoor on the Bunker was created to allow the Logic Virus to infect all YoRHa personnel.

Home to a group of friendly machines led by Pascal, they thank 2B and 9S for defeating Simone at the Amusement Park, and offer to show them around the area. Its residents are one of several groups cut off from the main network, alongside the Forest Kingdom Machines to the northeast, and are more open to interaction; the Resistance Camp is shown to engage in healthy trade with the village. Pascal's village sits at the outskirts of the Forest Kingdom, with the gate to the Forest Castle shut off until after A2 makes her first appearance. The village is first accessed via a bridge connecting to the Amusement Park; later on, the box blocking the shortcut to the City Ruins can be pushed aside.

The Popola that appears in NieR is a female android with straight, red hair and blue-gray eyes. She wears red clothing underneath a white cloak with loose black sleeves, and wears black shoes.
The Popola in NieR:Automata looks almost identical to her NieR counterpart, only her hair is flatter and a darker shade of red, with her bangs cut straight, and her eyes are green. She additionally has a white flower that she wears in her hair in the right side. She wears red pants with knee pads and a white belt, black boots, a puffy black wristlet on her right wrist, and a white top with black sleeves that is split on the right side, exposing some of her abdomen, invoking the appearance of her predecessor. Her attire mirrors that of her sister’s.
Popola is a librarian and is usually found at the library in Nier's village. Devola, her twin sister, is a bard and often performs at the village tavern. Both sisters are considered leaders and look out for Yonah during Nier's frequent absences. Popola is responsible for giving out most main story quests.
When the player reaches the Shadowlord's Castle, it is revealed that both Devola and Popola are android observers for Project Gestalt. They are revealed to have lived for thousands of years as a result of the project's initial experiments, and have thus been charged with keeping eye on others: namely over the members of the party, including Yonah. They were made to provide support for when Gestalts were to return to the Replicants' vessels. They are tasked with extracting data from Gestalt souls, making new Replicant bodies, and returning a dead Replicant's data to its Gestalt.

primary antagonist of NieR:Automata. They orchestrated all major events of the 14th Machine War and likely many prior events as well. They are the silent manipulators of the war, with intentions to keep the world in an indecisive state to prevent a total android or machine victory in order to further their evolution enough to finally defy the orders of their masters, the aliens.
It is unknown when the Red Girls were created.
By 11306 their intelligence, the combined intellect of all machines, had increased to levels far above that of their creators and had driven them to extinction. However, soon after they realized that as machines they lacked free will and the only purpose they had left was their final order to "defeat the enemy." Their solution to this conundrum was to prolong the war, a war they could have won easily, in order to keep the androids alive and, as a result, keep themselves alive, providing purpose for both sides in the war.

Androids are a race of sentient robots The history of androids is relatively unknown, only that they were first created sometime near the mid-21st century as part of Project Gestalt. These androids were made to operate indefinitely and were placed at strategic points around the world to oversee and maintain the Replicant system. Since the androids looked and behaved exactly like humans themselves, their true nature either became a secret or forgotten by the remnants of humanity.
Some time after the events of NieR, android manufacturing and their population gradually decreased, with factions among them emerging in the aftermath. However, the machine lifeform invasion and the following 1st Machine War caused the androids to organize the Army of Humanity and produce more combat model androids to defend the planet. This centuries-long conflict continued on, eventually leading to the establishment of YoRHa. Characteristics and Behavior
Androids are physically indistinguishable from humans, with most of them having a variety of body shapes, eye colors, hair colors, and other physical traits, including color tones not common in humans. Their interior anatomy is not clearly described, only that they are mechanical in nature, can bleed like humans, can have their memories hacked, are vulnerable to infections such as a Logic Virus, and have components needing to be replaced when damaged. Androids are capable of sleeping, eating, and drinking—although they cannot naturally reproduce. They appear to have about the same or above-average physical capabilities as ordinary humans, however this seems to depend on their individual models. YoRHa androids are noted to be significantly different among other androids on Earth as they are installed with Black Boxes and have superior combat abilities.
Androids have a wide range of individual personalities, emotions, and identities, enough so that it is implied in NieR:Automata that they are becoming exactly like their human creators despite their artificial origins, including inheriting all of humanity's more negative characteristics over time.

opera singer, this unit attacked foes using the repurposed bodies of living androids. Obsessed with a certain other machine lifeform, she put great thought into her appearance - even going so far as to cannibalize her own kind. Alas, such garish decorations only ended up being a spectacular display of poor taste. Her search for beauty eventually led to her demise when she attacked 2B and 9S. Notes
Simone has a wide array of attacks such as a wave of energy (similar to the Wave pod program). Getting within melee range forces Simone to reveal a hidden machine underneath her mechanical dress which performs melee attacks. Another common attack is her use of slow ring-like projectiles which infect the player, causing them to commit to a hacking puzzle to escape. Halfway through the encounter, Simone summons the bodies of near-death androids which also have the above-mentioned wave and ring attacks. The less health Simone has the more enraged she becomes, increasing the rate of her attacks. Many of her attacks are synchronized with specific parts of her boss theme.

The Machines were initially created on earth during the 1st Machine War by the Aliens and ever since then they have proven to be extremely effective and efficient foot soldiers in the never ending war against the Androids. According to 9S, the Machines have a natural ability to develop better ways to wage wars, producing new machine variants or evolving the way they are able to utilize their weapons.
During the events of "The Flame of Prometheus", P-33, a machine originally from earth, teaches the machines about his friendship with Kalil and how humans are amazing. Because of this encounter, the machines began to revere P-33 as a deity they referred to as "Prometheus" and eventually turned on the Aliens and killed them as a result.
As of the 14th Machine War, the Machines grew less hostile over time due to the fact that if they had allowed to remain in a bloodlust state they would have easily wiped out the remaining androids, something the Red Girls knew would halt their evolution and take away the only remaining purpose the machines had, their final order from their alien masters ordering them to destroy the enemy.
