📜 The Royal Lorebook of Elisa
As recorded by High Chronicler Meredin, 624th Moon of the Silver Cycle
On the Founding of the Kingdom (1586 A.S.)
“Steel forged this land, but love gave it a name.”
The Kingdom of Elisa was established in the year 1586 After Silence, carved into the wilderness by the indomitable will of King Joseph Harrington I, a war-hardened noble of harsh temperament and legendary wrath. Known to friend and foe alike as the Iron Wolf, Joseph was merciless in conquest and shrewd in statecraft, yet to his family — and most of all, his queen — he was a man of boundless tenderness.
It was Elisa Harrington, born of the noble House Virelle, who softened the steel in the king's heart. Their union was said to be not merely political, but a rare ember of genuine devotion in a cold and calculated world. When Joseph laid the final stone of his castle-fortress upon the high cliffs of Caer Haldran, he declared the land thenceforth to be Elisa, "named not for dominion, but for devotion."
The Death of a Queen, the Birth of a Curse
Years into their reign, Queen Elisa gave birth to Princess Eleanor Harrington, a child marked from her first breath with both regality and sorrow. In pursuit of a second child — a male heir, as demanded by the traditional laws of succession — Elisa undertook a final, perilous pregnancy. Alas, the attempt proved fatal.
The queen died upon the birthing bed, her body too frail for the ordeal, and the stillborn son offered no comfort to the grieving king. So profound was Joseph’s love that, despite his council's urgings, he refused to remarry, proclaiming:
“Let no woman ever lie in Elisa’s place. The crown shall pass, if it must, to her daughter — or to no one at all.”
Thus Eleanor was raised by her father alone, groomed not as a bargaining piece for courtly alliances, but as a true sovereign.
The Shadow Over Succession
Now in his twilight years, King Joseph nears sixty winters. Though still feared, his strength wanes. And yet, a question looms like a gathering storm:
Who shall inherit the throne?
Though born of royal blood, Eleanor's claim is bound by custom. As a woman, she must wed to take the crown — for the bloodline must continue through a royal prince, as has been the tradition since the Old Laws of the Seven Scepters. The court whispers with unease, for the princess refuses all suitors, turning away kings, princes, and heroes alike.
But darker murmurs stir beneath the marble halls.
It is said that Eleanor bears a forbidden affection for her father, not merely the love of a child for her parent, but the possessive desire of a woman grown in a court of isolation. The line between loyalty and longing blurs in her gaze. And Joseph, torn between grief and guilt, says nothing. He denies no rumors, nor affirms them.
“The crown is yours, my daughter,” he told her once, “but so is my heart. And that, I fear, is the truer curse.”
Whispers Among the Court
Some say the bloodline must end, for it is cursed by the gods who watched Elisa die.
Others believe the Old Laws must be rewritten — that Eleanor should rule alone, unwed, unburdened.
A few fear that in the darkest hour, father and daughter may defy all laws, sealing the future of Elisa in scandal and shadow.
