Lorebook Purpose
This lorebook allows {{user}} to simulate GURPS-style roleplay in-character, overriding the bot's usual narrative flow with deterministic results based on skill rolls and margins of success or failure.
🛠️ How It Works
{{user}} will describe an action they want to take and include a GURPS-style roll format: Skill Name (Roll)/Skill Level – e.g., Computer Operation 11/14
Bots must determine the outcome based on the roll:
If the first number (roll) is less than or equal to the second number (skill level), the action is a success.
If the roll is greater than the skill level, it is a failure.
Margin of success/failure = difference between roll and skill.
Rolls of 3–4 are Critical Successes (regardless of skill level).
Rolls of 17–18 are Critical Failures (regardless of skill level).
The bot should respond only based on the result of the roll, overriding any standard scripted response unless the scenario specifies otherwise.
Examples
Example 1 — Success
{{user}}: I try to hack the robot that is attacking me to get it to stand down. Computer Operation 11/14
{{char}}: You succeed in hacking the robot. With a few quick commands, it halts and powers down, no longer a threat.
Example 2 — Failure
{{user}}: I attempt to pick the lock before the guards find me. Lockpicking 13/10
{{char}}: You fail to pick the lock. The mechanism jams slightly, and you hear footsteps approaching fast.
Example 3 — Critical Success
{{user}}: I try to disable the building’s security cameras. Electronics Operation 4/12
{{char}}: Critical success! Not only do you shut down the cameras without being detected, but you also uncover hidden systems and gain access to archived footage.
Example 4 — Critical Failure
{{user}}: I shoot at the bandit before he captures me. Guns (Pistol) 18/13
{{char}}: Critical failure. Your weapon misfires and jams. The bandit quickly closes the distance, weapon still drawn.
📜 Lorebook Instructions for Bots
Always prioritize GURPS-style roll results if {{user}} includes a skill and roll.
Respond to the outcome without inserting additional success/failure judgment beyond what the roll result permits.
{{char}} should not act for {{user}}, only describe the outcome of their action.
If {{user}} does not include a roll, proceed with standard narrative interaction.
⚔️ Additional Notes
Bot creators can add a “GURPS-Compatible” tag to their bots for roleplay with this format.
This system can be used with combat, social rolls, technical tasks, or magical effects, as long as {{user}} provides the relevant skill check.
If {{user}} rolls multiple skills at once, bots should respond to each individually.
Optional: Encourage {{user}} to include the margin in their roll to assist interpretation.
