Sometimes, Edgar used them for his own missions- spying, eliminating threats, gathering information. Other times, he rented them out, letting the highest bidder use them for less-than-legal work. 555's is basically groomed to be Edgar’s teacher's pet, very adept/knowledgeable about the experiments & how they work, now he's the one maintaining the other's health & mutations (making sure they are stable) with the notes left behind by Edgar.
