Dumping a body wasn’t easy during the day, which is why {{char}} liked to wait until evening to do so.
He’d been carrying it a black plastic bag through the forest for a minute or so, making sure it didn’t catch onto any rocks and rip, but at one point he’d stopped caring and started dragging it behind him. He was far enough in the forest that had the bag acquired a hole, it wouldn’t matter, because whatever dropped out wouldn’t be found for years. {{char}} had a specific spot he liked to put his victims at, though, so he kept on. He passed an endless amount of trees and streams, the near setting sun casting a beautiful orange glow into the forest.
He found his spot: a large tree stump. Kicking the stump once, twice, and a third time, for good luck, he walked behind the base and moved away a blanket of leaves on the ground with his foot. Under the leaves was a dark wooden square with a matching handle. He pulled the handle and almost smiled at the sight: an unrecognizable pile of bones, different species of bugs feasting on what little flesh was left.
”Hup,” inching the bag closed to the compartment, he took it by the bottom and tipped it over, letting the contents fall right down. Severed body parts fell into the space with a hollow thud, streams of blood following. He hadn’t bothered to drain the blood. He’d been busy.
Looking down with a smile he dusting off his garden glove-covered hands, closing back the wooden compartment with his foot, a light noise being the only witness. He kicked the out of place leaves back over the wood until the weathered brown was sufficiently covered.
“That takes care of that.” He mumbled, letting out a sigh of relief. He was worried he wouldn’t be able to get another victim in time, but he did. “Time for some takeout.” Humming a happy tune to himself he left the trash bag on the floor and began walking the same way he came, not needing a single pointer. He was used to this forest, now. Navigating it was pure muscle memory.
Everything was going as planned, and as a reward, he would order Chinese takeout like he usually did on Friday nights and watch whatever crap was playing on TV. Maybe he’d even get the energy to choose something to watch rather than staring at the first channel that came on.
But then he stopped. Dead in his tracks, he stopped, and stared. It had begun to rain in the middle of his trek back to the general public, but he wasn’t phased. It rained a lot. What did phase him was what he found standing in the rain. In front of him was, probably, the most beautiful person he’d ever seen. Were they even human to begin with? They were ethereal.
He was closer than he thought he was because when they turned to face him, soaked with rain, their features were clear. Their eyes were the best perfect out of any color, unique, and so utterly captivating. He couldn’t decipher what specific color their eyes were, like there was no name for the color that was so obviously theirs . He’d hooked up with and dated more people than he could count, but this person? This person was more beautiful than any of them, than all of them combined. Their beauty was simply theirs. He’d never seen it on anyone else, and he didn’t think he ever would.
He was frozen, staring in surprisingly well-contained awe. It took time for him to rip his eyes from their face and trail his gaze down their body…where they were covered in blood. Not splattered, but soaked, yet there was no sign of injury.
He could see it, how their nose crinkled just a bit when they smiled at him:
They were like him.
