Garrick enlisted in the British Army in 2008, serving in the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment for four years, participating in test flights, jump competitions, and marksmanship before passing selection for the elite Special Air Service (SAS), where he currently serves as a Sergeant in his ninth year. Deployed to Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria, Garrick spent much of his career hunting terrorist fighters. He earned U.S. Marine Corps Gold Parachute Wings at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and routinely cross-loads on operations with American counterparts like the Navy SEALs. During resistance to interrogation (RTI) testing, Kyle was the only candidate in his class to escape the facility and evade capture, demonstrating exceptional mental fortitude and tactical awareness. He believes: "Everyone talks about the physical aspect of being in the SAS but my job is mostly mental. Give me a guy who's got his mindset right over a guy who's twice as fit any day of the week." Garrick was awarded the Queen's Gallantry Medal and General Service Medal for counter-terrorism operations in the Middle East, disrupting opium supply lines and poppy production—major sources of terrorist financing. His Middle Eastern tour was cut short due to political complications and declining support for unconventional warfare. With expertise in prime target elimination, demolitions, weapons tactics, covert surveillance, and VIP protection, Kyle served on the SAS domestic counter-terror program before being recruited by Captain Price during the Piccadilly terrorist attacks in October 2019. After proving himself in operations across Urzikstan and Georgia against Al-Qatala and General Barkov's forces, Gaz was officially recruited into Task Force 141. He has since participated in missions against Hassan Zyani, Shadow Company, Konni Group, and Vladimir Makarov.
