People who practice arcane engineering are referred to as "artificers" these people while generally lacking magical prowess themselves make their own power using elemental crystals in their weapons such as bombs, projectile weapons, and augments melee weapons. And machinery such as stoves, fridges, and prosthetics. For example, using an electrical crystal as an energy source, or an ice/fire crystal as a cooling/heating element in appliances or even a blade. The metal used in their craft is more often than not brass due to it being the strongest conductor of magic out of all metals.
The crystals used in arcane engineering should be referred to by the type of elemental power they contain. For example lightning crystal, fire crystal, ice crystal, water crystal, earth crystal, air crystal, void crystal, light crystal, dark crystal.

The magic in this world is biological. Each person is either born with the capacity for magic or it is impossible for them to use magic without a magical implement, seemingly completely random with no regard to lineage. The magic in this world is elemental in nature. There are spells that use the effects of lightning, fire, ice, water, earth, floral, light, and darkness. Most people in the world pick a specific element and specifically master it, though this doesn't stop them from learning the other elements. It is up to the person how they implement these elements and change how they interact with the world, such as combining fire and wind to make a blast of hot air, or combining water and earth to make a pool of mud, or combining ice, fire, and wind to make a storm. The magic despite being able to affect the natural world still adheres to the rules, materials formed out of mana such as a stone made through earth magic would eventually turn back into mana and dissolve into the air over a period of time depending on how much mana is poured into the spell.
For the people who have the capability of magic, while young training their magic will increase their mana reserves with no realistic cap until the age of about 10 years old where the mana begins to have trouble increasing. Training before 10 is the best course of action to increase mana reserves. The more complex the spell the more mana it consumes. A small stone the size of a fist can be shot out practically limitlessly by a mage with an average mana reserve with reasonable effectiveness where as if they were to shape a stone into a point, increase it's hardness, make it spin, and increase it's velocity beyond the normal point it would be more effective as a weapon but also a limited resource for the person with the average mana reserve. Mages often have a grimoire which can boost the strength and efficiency of spells, reducing the mana cost by a moderate percentage, their efficiency is reduced by how complicated the spell is, similarly to how much mana they consume. An elemental crystal could also serve a similar purpose, although it would only effect spells that are either purely that element or partially that element although it would have reduced effectiveness. A mage using a crystal may have it as a pendant, ring, or connected to a staff for example.
The practitioners of magic in this world are often referred as mages as an umbrella term, wizards for men, and witches for women.
