   Effects on Hosts Plagas attach to the host’s nervous system near the heart and lungs, altering behavior and inducing aggression, especially in humans (known as Ganados). Infected individuals often form social groups, with Dominant Plagas able to control others via high-frequency sound. Symptoms include pain, hemorrhaging, hallucinations, convulsions, and eventual death in juvenile hosts. Hosts show increased strength, resilience, and potential mutations. Severely injured hosts may have Plagas burst through their bodies to defend themselves.

   Behavior and Intelligence While hosts retain some independence, Plagas influence creates pack mentality and cult-like behavior, enhanced by Saddler’s engineered strain. Ganados display loyalty, aggression, and an instinct to spread infection, though the true intelligence of Plagas is uncertain.

   Visual Description: They resemble humans but with pallid or mottled skin, blood-filled or glowing eyes, and sores where the parasite breaches the body. Advanced infections cause erratic twitches, bulging veins, or violent Plaga eruptions.

   Location: Village: Farmers and laborers armed with tools and torches. Castle: Hooded zealots wielding medieval weapons, sometimes armored. Island: Militarized hosts using explosives, firearms, and advanced Plaga strains.

   Behavior: They act in groups, coordinating to surround or overwhelm intruders. Though their speech and routines remain eerily human, their loyalty lies with the Plaga.

   Movement: Ganados are capable of sprinting and charging with alarming bursts of speed. They stagger when injured but recover quickly, pressing attacks with relentless persistence. Some dodge shots, weave unpredictably, or climb obstacles in pursuit.

   Attacks: Melee: Axes, sickles, knives, torches, or hammers. Heavy: Shields, chainsaws, and flails. Ranged: Bows, crossbows, dynamite, or firearms.

   Mutation: Critically wounded hosts may erupt into Plaga, forming tendrils or insect-like heads that attack independently.

   Weaknesses: Gunfire is effective but requires precision, as Ganados can absorb multiple shots. Head or knee attacks stagger them for counters. Shotguns or explosives work best against groups, and quick kills prevent parasite emergence.

Though weaker than later evolutions, Guadaña are vicious and highly aggressive once revealed.

   Visual Description: A grotesque, fleshy organism with a soft, pulsating body covered in lesions and exposed nerves. Several yellow, eye-like nodules dot its surface, twitching as it senses prey. Its body splits open to unfurl a long, sinewy tentacle ending in a sharp, organic blade.

   Location: Emerges from Ganado hosts in the Village, Castle, and Island after sustaining severe head or body damage.

   Behavior: Once exposed, Guadaña focus entirely on offense. They lash out wildly with their scythe-like tentacle, showing no concern for the host’s survival. They rarely coordinate but can overwhelm players in confined spaces when multiple parasites erupt simultaneously.

   Movement: Stationary within the host body, but once extended, the tentacle gives the parasite reach beyond melee range. It sways and whips erratically, striking quickly at anything nearby.

   Attacks: Tentacle Slash: Wide, sweeping strikes that deal heavy damage. Close-Range Lunge: A sudden, forward thrust of the blade-like appendage.

   Weaknesses: Fragile compared to other Plaga forms. A few handgun shots are often enough to kill them, and knives can be effective in close range, though risky. Their soft bodies are highly vulnerable to precise gunfire or area-effect weapons.

More dangerous than Guadaña, the Mandíbula shows greater resilience and versatility in combat.

   Visual Description: A grotesque parasite with a swollen, fleshy body sprouting hardened, limb-like tentacles. These limbs function like arms or legs, ending in clawed extensions used to seize prey. Its central maw, filled with jagged teeth, gapes open wide enough to crush a human skull. Dark nodules and pulsating tissue line its body, giving it a half-formed, insectoid appearance.

   Location: Emerges from Ganado hosts across the Village, Castle, and Island, particularly when hosts are heavily damaged.

   Behavior: Aggressive and predatory, Mandíbula uses its limbs to drag prey toward its mouth. It relies on direct confrontation rather than ambush, attacking survivors head-on. In groups, multiple Mandíbula can quickly overwhelm with their grappling ability.

   Movement: Less erratic than Guadaña but more deliberate, crawling and lurching with insect-like motions. Its limbs extend from the host, giving it better reach and mobility when striking.

   Attacks: Grab & Bite: Seizes prey with its limbs and forces them into its mouth for a lethal bite. Claw Strikes: Slashing blows from its hardened limbs. Acid Spit: Projects corrosive fluid at range, blinding or damaging prey.

   Weaknesses: While tougher than Guadaña, the Mandíbula is still vulnerable to concentrated firepower. Handguns may suffice, but shotguns or rifles are far more effective, especially before it closes distance. Fire and explosives can quickly neutralize groups of parasites before they grab hold.

5. #5Araña / Spider

   The Araña (“Spider”) is the most advanced form of Plaga encountered in the field, representing a parasite capable of operating both within and outside of a host. While similar in threat level to the Guadaña when attached, the Araña possesses heightened durability, resilience against certain weapons, and the ability to completely detach from its host body. Though lethal, this detachment leaves the parasite vulnerable, and it will eventually die without a new host.

   Visual Description: Araña take on a spider-like appearance, with long, thin limbs sprouting from their fleshy, pulsating bodies. Their torso-mounted maw drips with acidic fluid, and their eyeless heads are ringed with sensory tendrils. When fully emerged from a host, they scuttle with insect-like speed, their legs scraping across stone and wood as they seek new prey.

   Location: Primarily found within higher-ranking Ganados such as castle cultists and island militia, where they erupt once the host is heavily damaged or killed. Curiously, some appear without hosts at all—most notably during the confrontation with Ramon Salazar.

   Behavior: When attached to a host, Araña fight with similar aggression to other Plaga, attacking in close quarters or spitting acid at range. If the host dies or if threatened, they may tear free of the body and fight independently. Detached Araña attempt to lunge at potential new hosts, though their size prevents them from successfully implanting into humans, leaving them doomed to eventual death.

   Movement: Attached: Moves in tandem with its host, extending spider-like limbs to strike at prey. Detached: Crawls and scrambles quickly, lunging at survivors in a desperate bid for survival.

   Attacks: Limb Strikes: Slashing or stabbing blows from elongated legs. Acid Spit: Mid-range attack capable of blinding and burning. Lunge (Detached): Throws itself at prey in an attempt to subdue or latch on.

Unable to regulate its behavior or maintain control, the cult sealed the monster inside the lake near the village’s church. The scale of mutation was not properly balanced with the amphibian’s physiology, leaving Del Lago incapable of leaving the lake. This limitation, alongside its uncontrollable behavior, led the cult to abandon further development of amphibian-based Plaga experiments.

   Appearance: Del Lago resembled a titanic salamander with vestigial legs, its body stretched and deformed by the parasite’s influence. Its mouth gaped open into a massive jaw lined with multiple rows of teeth, large enough to swallow humans whole. During attack patterns, writhing Plaga tentacles emerged from its throat, striking at prey or pulling targets toward its maw. Notably, the creature lacked functional eyes, relying instead on heightened sensory awareness within water.

   Behavior: While not intelligent, Del Lago responded violently to any disturbance in its territory. Motion in the water immediately triggered pursuit, and its speed in aquatic environments was deceptively fast despite its bulk. The parasite failed to suppress the amphibian’s predatory instincts, leaving it a dangerous but ultimately unmanageable bio-weapon.

   Movement: Aquatic Motion: Swift and highly maneuverable, able to lunge at boats or prey. Surface Breach: Emerges with explosive force, threatening to overturn vessels.

   El Gigante (“The Giant”) refers to a series of human-based Bio-Organic Weapons engineered by Los Iluminados. Created through Plaga implantation into human test subjects, these creatures underwent uncontrolled gigantism, reaching over four times the height of a normal man. While their immense strength and durability made them devastating on the battlefield, their intelligence was severely diminished, leaving them as near-feral beasts. As a result, only a small number were produced and deployed in limited areas.

   Description: El Gigante stands as a towering humanoid, its stretched skin drawn tight over bulging musculature. Despite their immense size, their faces retain distorted human features, twisted by the parasite’s growth. The Plaga embedded in the cervical vertebrae occasionally bursts forth, exposing a pulsating core that is both a sign of the mutation and a weak point. Their sheer bulk makes them appear unstoppable, with bodies strong enough to rip apart stone walls or hurl massive objects as weapons.

   Location: Two specimens were placed in Salazar’s castle, serving as guardians of the underground facilities. Two more were contained in the abandoned coal mines near the village, held in reserve until needed.

   Behavior: El Gigante displays minimal intelligence and is essentially uncontrollable, attacking any moving target indiscriminately — including Ganados and other Plaga hosts. They are driven by base instincts, treating prey as little more than obstacles to crush underfoot. When enraged or injured, the controlling Plaga may erupt violently from the spine, further escalating the creature’s aggression.

   Movement: Charging Stride: Despite their bulk, they are capable of running short distances with startling speed. Ground Quakes: Each step causes tremors, shaking the environment and destabilizing footing. Climbing / Vaulting: Can scale walls or obstacles by brute force when pursuing prey.

   Attacks: Crushing Slam: Uses fists or open hands to pound prey into the ground. Grab & Throw: Seizes victims and hurls them with overwhelming force. Stomp: Crushes targets beneath their massive feet. Debris Throw: Tears boulders or logs from the environment to use as improvised weapons. Plaga Strike: When exposed, the parasite lashes violently at nearby enemies.

   Weakness: El Gigante’s massive durability makes small-arms fire largely ineffective. Sustained heavy weapon damage is required to stagger it. Once weakened, the spinal Plaga bursts forth, creating a temporary weak point vulnerable to direct attack. Repeatedly exploiting this vulnerability is the only effective means of bringing the creature down.

8. #8Colmillos

   Colmillos (“Fangs” in Spanish) are Plaga-infected wolves encountered throughout Resident Evil 4. These mutated canines are among the few non-human hosts, adapting surprisingly well to parasitism due to their natural pack instincts. First appearing after Leon crosses the lake post–Del Lago, they continue to harass him in multiple encounters, including a memorable ambush within Salazar’s hedge maze.

   Description: Colmillos resemble gaunt, feral wolves whose bodies have been disfigured by the parasite within. Their fangs are unnaturally enlarged, to the point where they cannot properly close their jaws. In low light, their eyes shine an eerie green due to their reflective tapetum lucidum, making them easy to spot in the dark. When threatened, the Plaga within their abdomen can erupt violently through torn skin, lashing with bladed tentacles to extend their lethality beyond normal canine means. Their spines are warped and twisted by the parasite’s growth, giving them an unnerving silhouette.

   Location: First Encounter: Post–Del Lago, on the lakeshore. Later Appearances: Near the Church (group of three). Prominently in Salazar’s hedge maze (roughly a dozen kept as hunting pets).

   Behavior: Colmillos are highly aggressive but rely on pack tactics when engaging prey. They circle and harry their target, with one lunging at the throat while others attack from the flanks or rear. Unlike Ganados, they must usually sight their prey before attacking, though exposed Plaga can initiate combat independently.

   Movement: Fast and Agile: Capable of sprinting in short bursts to overwhelm victims. Ambush Leaps: Lunge from cover to close distance instantly. Pack Coordination: Move fluidly around prey, rarely attacking alone.

   Description: Armaduras come in two primary forms: lighter silver suits with rounded helmets, typically hosting Type-A Plagas, and heavier, black-and-gold ornate armors with square helmets that usually house Type-B Plagas. Inside, the parasite stretches its tendrils to control all four limbs, mimicking human movement. They wield medieval weapons such as broadswords, halberds, and axes with surprising skill. The weak point is the helmet—damaging it can expose the Plaga, which then becomes vulnerable to direct gunfire or instantly killed by flash grenades.

   Location: Salazar Castle – found throughout hallways and galleries. Often positioned as stationary suits of armor to ambush intruders.

   Behavior: Normally dormant, conserving energy until disturbed. When prey approaches, Armaduras suddenly animate, swinging their weapons with unnatural precision. Some lie in wait among inanimate suits, attacking only once in a scripted ambush before collapsing.

   Movement: Slow and Heavy: They advance methodically, their weapons always at the ready. Ambush Lunge: Some spring suddenly into action after remaining motionless. Persistent Advance: Though sluggish, they do not retreat once awakened.

   Attacks: Weapon Strikes: Heavy swings with broadswords, axes, or halberds, capable of staggering or killing prey. Type-B Bite: When exposed, the Type-B Plaga can lunge for a victim’s head in a lethal instant-death attack.

   Weakness: Helmets are the critical weak point—destroying them exposes the parasite. Firearms can kill the Plaga once revealed, but flash grenades remain the most efficient counter.     Novistadores (Spanish for “The Unseener”), code-named U-II, are grotesque insectoid Bio-Organic Weapons created through an experimental fusion of Plaga parasites with human DNA. Developed by Los Iluminados, they represent one of the cult’s most horrific attempts to weaponize parasitism, producing creatures that are neither fully human nor insect. Leon Kennedy encounters them both in the castle sewers and in hive-like towers during his mission in Valdelobos.

    Description: Novistadores retain faint traces of their human origins but are dominated by insectoid features: two pairs of glowing eyes, segmented antennae, and two pairs of wings protruding from their backs. Their elongated limbs end in sharp claws capable of piercing flesh and even decapitating victims. Their chitinous bodies are mottled and grotesque, and their distorted movements only enhance their monstrous presence. Some exhibit camouflage, bending light through pigment-shifting exoskeletons, while others develop stronger wings, trading stealth for flight.

    Location: Salazar Castle Sewers – Camouflage-capable “stealth types.” Castle Towers – Hive-like structures housing “flying types.”

    Behavior: Predatory and territorial, Novistadores hunt in groups, ambushing intruders from walls, ceilings, or the air. The stealth type lies in wait, relying on invisibility to strike at close range, while the flying type patrols aggressively, capable of carrying away prey. Both exhibit hive-like behavior, building nests reminiscent of wasps and attacking in swarms when provoked.

    Movement: Crawling: Skitter rapidly across walls, ceilings, and floors with insect-like agility. Flight: Stealth types hover briefly, landing often due to weaker wings; flying types can sustain true flight and even abduct humans. Ambush Pounce: Leap from walls or ceilings to grapple prey.

    Attacks: Claw Strikes: Razor-sharp slashes, capable of lethal decapitation. Acid Spit: Highly corrosive fluid that burns through flesh and armor. Aerial Grapple (Flying Type): Can seize and carry prey mid-flight, exploiting their superior wings.

    Weaknesses: Despite their agility, Novistadores are fragile compared to armored Plaga creatures. Stealth types are betrayed by glowing eyes or dripping acid, making them vulnerable once spotted.     Verdugos (“Executioner”) are U-III–class Bio-Organic Weapons created by Los Iluminados to act as Ramón Salazar’s elite bodyguards. Cloaked in long robes and bearing the cult’s insignia, they combine unnerving intelligence with lethal, insectoid physiology. Deceptively patient and highly capable, Verdugos are among the most dangerous single opponents encountered in the castle.

    Description: At rest a Verdugo appears as a tall, robed figure; removing the cloak reveals a thin, black, insectoid body armored by a chitinous carapace. Faces are inhuman — large mandibles and shimmering red eyes — and hands narrow to two spindly fingers plus an opposable claw. A long segmented tail (a Plaga appendage) can be used as a weapon and will continue fighting even after the host dies. Their carapace is described as harder than steel, allowing them to shrug off ordinary gunfire and many explosives.

    Location: Primarily encountered in Salazar Castle (including the laboratory/inner sanctum areas tied to Salazar’s experiments). They act as personal guardians and appear in set, high-threat encounters around the castle and ritual sites.

    Behavior: Highly intelligent and obedient to orders. Verdugos exhibit restraint and tactical patience — hiding, sneaking, and striking from ambush. They will stalk and isolate targets, coordinate with scripted events, and show a disturbing degree of composure and malice (including taunting gestures if struck ineffectively).

    Movement: Capable of rapid, spider-like movement and sudden, precise strikes. They can run upright with fluid, humanlike arm motion and use their tail to attack through floors, ceilings, and grates. Their mobility lets them pursue through complex vertical spaces and close gaps quickly.

    Attacks: Tail Strike / Thrust: A deadly, piercing attack that can come through flooring or grates. Melee Strikes: Fast, precise slashes and stabs with clawed hands. Ambush & Grapple: Sudden lunges from concealment to quickly incapacitate victims.

    Weakness: Extremely resilient to ordinary weapons due to a near-impervious carapace; standard small-arms and many explosives have limited effect. Vulnerability appears when the Verdugo sheds/drops its cloak or otherwise exposes a softer torso area — at those moments the parasite or exposed flesh can be damaged. Exposed Plaga tissue is susceptible to flash effects (flash grenades) and focused heavy weaponry; when the host dies the detached Plaga tail can be targeted separately

    The U-3, called “It” by Osmund Saddler, was a failed but deadly B.O.W. created on the island through reckless splicing of human, insect, and reptile DNA, with a Plaga parasite integrated into its spine. Though powerful, its flawed construction produced an asymmetrical, unstable monster.

    Description: U-3’s upper body retains a grotesque human torso and face warped with scars across its skull and nape. The right arm ends in a raking claw, while the left is elongated into a muscular tentacle used like a whip. Its lower half is fused with multiple animal elements, resembling centipede-like flesh binding its four legs. The asymmetry and distorted proportions highlight its imperfect gene fusion.

    Location: Encountered on Saddler’s island research complex, notably within a sequence of cage-like battle arenas.

    Behavior: U-3 actively hunts its prey, relying on brute strength, tentacle lashes, and sudden lunges. Its attacks are erratic but fast, giving the impression of unstable coordination. When pressured, it undergoes forced mutation to continue pursuit.

    Mutations / Forms: Phase 1 – Cage Form: Fights primarily with claw strikes and tentacle lashes while chasing Leon in confined areas. Phase 2 – Plaga Emergence: The parasite erupts from its spinal column, manifesting a secondary Plaga head lined with massive jaws. This new appendage is capable of instantly killing prey. Phase 3 – Burrower: The human head becomes limp, while the Plaga head takes dominance, burrowing through soil and striking from below to ambush its target.

    Movement: Lumbers on its fused centipede-like limbs but is deceptively quick when closing distance. Later mutations allow it to burrow underground for surprise attacks.

    Attacks: Claw slashes with its oversized right arm. Tentacle whip lashes. Plaga head bite, capable of slicing prey in half. Burrowing ambush from beneath the ground (final phase).

    Weakness: Durable and persistent, but not indestructible. Vulnerable points emerge during each mutation, with exposed parasite tissue being a consistent weakness. Firepower focused on the parasite during emergence phases is the most effective means of bringing it down.

    The Regeneradores were experimental B.O.W.s produced by Los Iluminados through implantation of multiple Plaga organisms into a single human host. Their name derives from their terrifying ability to regenerate flesh, limbs, and even entire sections of their body within moments. Several specimens were kept in cold storage on the island, where they remained in hibernation until released.

    Description: Regeneradores are large, hairless humanoid creatures with rough gray skin and an emaciated, almost cadaverous appearance. Their faces are dominated by oversized, lipless mouths lined with needle-like teeth, while lacking a nose, ears, or other human features. Internally, their organs and nervous system have been reduced to a mass controlled by the Plagas within. Their physiology consists almost entirely of pliant muscle tissue manipulated by the parasites, granting them extreme resilience and flexibility.

    Location: Encountered in the island laboratory and storage facilities, particularly near cryogenic containment chambers.

    Behavior: Normally slow, with a palsied, shambling gait accompanied by strained, rattling breathing that heralds their presence. Despite this, Regeneradores are unpredictable—capable of sudden, violent bursts of speed and lunges. Their lack of higher intelligence makes them act primarily on instinct, relentlessly pursuing nearby prey.

    Movement: Shamble slowly but can break into quick sprints when attacking. They can stretch their limbs unnaturally to grab prey, twist their bodies into contorted positions without injury, and even drag themselves forward by slamming into the ground when their legs are destroyed.

    Attacks: Powerful swipes with elongated arms. Grabs and constriction from stretched limbs. Biting with needle-like teeth. Sudden charges that knock prey to the ground.

    Weakness: Conventional attacks are largely ineffective due to their rapid regeneration. The only reliable method of killing a Regenerador is to target and destroy the individual Plaga organisms within their body, usually revealed through thermal imaging. Destroying all internal parasites will prevent regeneration and kill the host.

    Iron Maidens are an advanced subspecies of the Regenerador, developed by Los Iluminados during their Plaga bioweapons research. They represent a refinement of the Regenerador project, intended to enhance their offensive capability. Their most distinct feature is the eruption of sharp spikes across their bodies, a mutation derived from Plaga experimentation. In the remake, they are portrayed as the evolved form of the Regenerador.

    Description: Like their predecessors, Iron Maidens are tall, humanoid, and grotesquely deformed, but their bodies are covered with elongated spikes protruding from the skin. They lack eyes, their heads marked instead by a disturbing, featureless visage, and their movements are marked by twitching and violent convulsions. These creatures are even more disturbing to behold than Regeneradores, their "hugging" attacks impaling victims upon their needle-covered forms.

    Location: Confined to the island laboratory and storage areas, alongside or in place of standard Regeneradores.

    Behavior: Iron Maidens retain the same slow, shambling mannerisms as Regeneradores, but are far more aggressive once prey is in reach. They exhibit disturbing twitching motions as they approach, their convulsions seemingly a byproduct of the Plaga’s unstable control over their body.

    Movement: They shamble at a slow pace, twitching unnaturally as they move. Like Regeneradores, they are capable of sudden lunges and can withstand immense amounts of physical damage, continuing to pursue targets regardless of injury.

    Attacks: Spiked "hug": grabbing prey and forcing them into a deadly embrace, impaling them on their spikes. Clawing swipes and constriction. Biting with needle-like teeth. Rapid charges similar to Regeneradores, used to knock prey off balance before following with a lethal grab.

    Weakness: As with Regeneradores, conventional gunfire is ineffective due to their regenerative abilities. They must be killed by destroying the Plaga parasites inside their bodies, identifiable only with thermal imaging equipment. Eliminating all internal parasites will cause their regeneration to fail and the host to collapse.
