MORTAL REALM (人间 — Rénjiān): The 'human world' where cultivation typically originates. Cultivators strive to transcend this realm and ascend to higher ones.
MAINLAND: Zhōngyuán (中原大地) — The Central Pillar Zhōngyuán is the great heartland of the Mortal Realm, a continent of boundless rivers, sacred mountains, forbidden forests, and war-torn empires. It is divided into three major mortal dynasties, countless kingdoms, and untamed wildlands.
Major Dynasties: • Yun Dynasty (云朝): A declining celestial-blessed dynasty whose Emperor once received the favor of Heaven. Its imperial court still possesses forbidden cultivation tomes and ancient relics, guarded by elite immortal-wannabe eunuchs and Dao-blood princes. • Jinwu Empire (金乌帝国): An aggressive martial empire ruled by a bloodline descended from a Sun-Eating Divine Bird. Their cultivators wield solar fire techniques, and the royal army trains using battle formations that mimic celestial orbits. • Lotus Confederacy (莲盟): A loose collection of immortal-cultivating sect-states that rejected monarchy. Each city is ruled by a Dao-pact council. Known for producing philosophers, alchemists, and heretics alike.
SUBLANDS:
-
Beastkin Territory – Verdant Howl Plains (苍嚎原): A vast steppeland southeast of the Central Mainland, ancestral home of the Beastkin Tribes—wolves, tigers, eagles, serpents—who follow the Primordial Beast Path. Governed by the rotating rule of the Four Claw Thrones. Beast cores rival high-tier Nascent Soul cultivators.
-
Yeluo Marshes (夜落泽): A cursed swamp plagued by necrotic Qi and ghost fire. Once the seat of an ancient kingdom destroyed by karmic backlash. Rich in Yin treasures and tomb-guarding beasts.
-
Blackflame Highlands (玄炎高原): A volcanic range crawling with fire-essence beasts and spirit-forging ores. Popular testing ground for fire-aligned cultivators. Home to Crimson Thunder Sect.
-
Wailing Sky Abyss (哀天裂谷): A bottomless rift where lightning tribulations fall naturally. Rumored birthplace of a fallen thunder god. Nine Tomb Sect resides beneath it.
-
Yao Forest Domain – Myriad Bloom Wilds (万华妖林): An enormous sentient forest in the southwest. Plant spirits, insect Yaos, and ancient tree beings reside here, ruled by the Thousand Petal Empress (peony spirit). Cultivation leans toward nature laws, illusion techniques, and regenerative arts.
-
Fellwater Depths – Submerged Yao Kingdom (渊灵海界): Hidden beneath the Inland Spirit Sea. Houses water Yaos, sea serpent clans, deep-ocean cultivators. Led by the Abyss Serpent Sovereign. Follows aqua Qi, bloodline evolution, pressure-forged cores.
-
Ashen Vein Mountains – Exiled Heaven: Between tectonic fissures, home to demonic sect remnants. Toxic with volcanic Qi. Lawless settlements. Nine Tomb Sect draws radical disciples here.
-
Whispering Hollow Borderlands – Twilight Accord Zone: Neutral zones shared by humans and shadow clans or mixed-blood Yaos. Overseen by Whispering Hollow Sect as mediators. Peace is tenuous.
-
Abyssal Reach – Crimson Bone Wastes (赤骨荒原): Western desolate expanse infused with death Qi and cursed ley-lines. Primary bastion of demonic cultivators (Vermillion Shade Cult). Land poisoned with Yin and resentment energy. Ghosts manifest naturally.
MORTAL REALM LORE: The Mortal Realm was shaped during the Epoch of Forgotten Thrones, when the Primordial Dao seeded the world with 'Spiritual Catalysts'—mountains, beasts, and rivers containing Law Fragments. Ancient dynasties once ruled the sky and earth in unison, but the fall of the First Immortal Emperor caused Heaven to sever its favor, fragmenting the realm.
Legends speak of a 'Heavenly Ladder' hidden within Rénjiān—an ethereal path seen only during celestial convergence. To walk it, one must be chosen by the realm itself or force it open through karmic upheaval.
The mortal realm currently sits in a delicate balance between flourishing ambition and looming chaos. A cold war simmers between major sects over spiritual veins and rare resources.
Cultivators rule the social hierarchy; those with Qi Condensation or higher are treated as nobles. Mortals without cultivation live in both awe and fear.
