   Kafka Hibino (日ひ比び野の カフカ, Hibino Kafuka),[1] also known as Kaiju No. 8 (怪かい獣じゅう8号ごう, Kaijū Hachi-gō),[4] is the main protagonist of the Kaiju No. 8 manga series.

   He is a Defense Force officer [6] and a former worker for the Professional Kaiju Cleaning Company Monster Sweeper Inc. [1] who was turned into humanoid Identified Kaiju with shapeshifting abilities after a small kaiju entered his body.[1] He was formerly a member of the Third Division,[7] which is being led by his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro, but he was recently transferred to the First Division.[8]

   Kafka is a tall man with dark brown spiky hair, large eyes with small irises, thin eyebrows, and a mild goatee on his chin, he sports a rather muscular frame except for his slightly pudgy belly and he usually has a jovial expression on his face.[1]

   Working for Monster Sweeper Inc., Kafka once regularly wore the company's uniform; it is a grey coverall with a red Monster Sweeper logo on the right side of the chest.[1]

   Kafka's Kaiju Form is mostly covered with coal-black scales and plates, cyan energy sometimes glowing from between the cracks (most notably when he is charging a powerful attack). However, his head, spine, and clavicles appear to be made from exposed bone, resulting in these features being a contrasting white. Large plates with dorsal spines cover the back of his head and neck above the shoulders with the very top piece being white. As for his head, it has been described as a 'demonic skull-face' with two short, thick horns, a hole for a nose, and sharp, exposed teeth that extend down his neck. His eyes have black sclera with a cyan iris. Seemingly originating from them are several cracks, the left eye having several chunks of the 'mask' missing on the lower left part. [1] His Kaiju form resembles the armor and mask of the fallen warriors in Meireki-Era.

   When out of control, some of the Kaiju Form's features become more pronounced. Such as; his general size relative to people, elongated horns, more predominate dorsal plates, mouth extending further down his neck, and eyes turning entirely cyan (without pupils or a definable beginning or end to his sclera).[9] The Kaiju Form's features became even more pronounced in the anime: four extensions on the back position in a cross shape, a greater height that forces a crouched posture, and the cyan energy turning red.[10] After Kafka learned to control the berserk state for one minute, pupils will briefly appear when he speaks in that form.

   After having his heart converted into a Core to deepen his connection with the Mysterious Larva[11], Kafka's Kaiju Form undergoes a metamorphosis by shedding the black scales and plates.[12] His body is now white while still retaining the energy cracks on his upper body, the horns on his skull-face have slightly grown, curved inward and possess a set of two small eyes along each horn's curve, and his back now sports four maple leaf-shaped dorsal plates.[

   Personality

   Kafka has a comically childish personality in most situations, resulting in him being an easy target for teasing by other characters [1] despite being a determined and dedicated individual in serious situations, bringing him to try his best to do everything to succeed whether individually [1] or for the betterment of the group.[13] Kafka is also a genuinely caring and kind guy long before he joins the Defense Force, resulting in him going out of his way to help and care for others, regardless if they want it or not.[1] Some examples of this behavior are when Kafka offers solutions to inconveniences [14], saves people from imminent danger,[15] and sometimes scolds them for not taking better care of themselves.

   It's for these reasons that Kafka does everything he can to not disappoint or sadden those who have put their trust and belief in him.[16] Having to break that connection in times of need causes him to become insecure and unsure of what he will be able to achieve in the future.

   Thus, when Kafka experiences losing control of his transformed body [9], the horror of seeing himself become the thing he's hated since childhood concludes with him taking drastic action to end the situation.[17] Later on, the fear of losing control and hurting those he cares about prevents him from being able to use his Kaiju form until Kikoru Shinomiya encourages him to trust and have faith in his comrades and the Defense Force.[17]

   Kafka seems to get annoyed when he is labeled as an "old man" and always reminds younger people of his condition of seniority when called names.[4] ADVERTISEMENT Powers & Abilities

   Overall Abilities: After an unknown kaiju entered his mouth, Kafka obtained the power to transform into a humanoid Daikaiju, gaining immensely powerful abilities.[1][3] He eventually learned to use this power on a more advanced level, allowing him to change specific parts of his body without a full transformation;[4] conversely, this allows him to outwardly appear completely human if he so chooses.[18] Unfortunately, his kaiju nature remains, making it nearly impossible for Kafka to presently draw out beyond 1% of released power from the Defense Force combat suit he wears.[19] Kafka's kaiju form has a fortitude level of 9.8, the highest fortitude level seen so far in the entire series, making him one of the most powerful kaiju to ever exist, if not the most powerful.[20] He can overpower other kaiju rather easily,[1][20] even those as powerful as a base Kaiju No. 9 who has a fortitude level of 8.5, without even tiring out.[21] Kafka has shown so much dexterity with his new form that he could resist an onslaught from Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina [22] and disarm him without injuring him.[23] He even proved to be strong enough to resist Isao Shinomiya's attacks, a man armed with a Numbers weapon[24], albeit the man was passed his prime, and easily overpower a fellow Identified Kaiju like Kaiju No. 13.[25]

   Kafka's transformation gets the better of him, resulting in a raging Kaiju No. 8 out of control, albeit when it sense the presence of an Identified No. Kaiju. It was also discovered that the longer Kafka stands in his kaiju form, the more his human body turns into a kaiju, with no possibility of returning to normal (Chapter 108). Kafka retains his individuality and sense of self when this occurs, leaving him to helplessly watch his body rampage without his consent.[9] Furthermore, due to his age, Kafka's body can't take the full strength of his blows and will eventually be damaged whenever he abuses his powers.[26]

   Due to the Parasitic Kaiju, he has some unique connection that allows him to "see" the phantasms of ancient warriors. Near-dead, Kafka strengthened this link further, resulting in him reliving the Parasitic Kaiju's memories and could see the reason why he lost control was the result of the ancient Kaiju Hunters' 400-year-old grudge due to the Daikaiju of the Meireki-Era.

   After his Human Heart turned into a Kaiju Core, and then came to terms with his newest path, Kafka mutated into a new form unleashing waveforms belonging to neither a Human nor Kaiju. Like the Meireki Daikaiju, his fortitude level is "unmeasurable", learning what fuels Kaiju No. 8's power is the collective, neverending stream of hatred, regret, anger, and shame from the ancient warriors.    Unleashed Combat Power: Kafka is the only Defense Force troop member to ever release 0% of their combat suit's power [13], which later increases to 1%.[19] Thus, only using his suit, Kafka's physical attributes are almost dampened by his inability to draw more power. [14] However, he still manages to get strong enough to easily tear into dead kaiju bodies. [14] Kaiju Transformation: After a kaiju invades his body, Kafka could transform into an incredibly powerful humanoid kaiju himself, [1] and not only that, he was actually made with abilities that can corrode any Kaiju within its proximity due to the Mysterious Larva's nature against them. Immense Strength: In kaiju form, Kafka gains immense physical strength [3] to the point where he can even annihilate a Honju [20] or seriously injured an Identified Kaiju [25] with just a single punch. Kafka could use this strength to cover great distances in a few leaps. [26] Even with only part of his body transformed, Kafka could easily lift the company's car, making Kikoru Shinomiya believe that he had his own Defense Force suit. [4] His strength in his Kaiju form is said to be on par to Isao Shinomiya, but eventually overpowered him easily when the Mysterious Larva took control. [9] Following his metamorphosis after converting his heart into a new Core, Kafka's strength evolved to the point he can send the The Daikaiju of the Meireki Era flying through the air with a destructive fallout,[27] he even deflected Kaiju No. 2's energy blast into the sky when the Meireki Kaiju targets Tachikawa with its blast was able to break the sky and skyscrapers, and fought toe-to-toe with the Kaiju to point overwhelming it with a barrage of punches.[28] Immense Durability: In his kaiju form, due to his exceptionally thick skin, Kafka is extremely resilient to the point of tanking shots. [21] His pain resistance is so strong, that he barely felt any pain when Soshiro slashed him multiple times and came out unscathed. [22] [29] He could survive and defeat the combined power of Isao and Kaiju No. 2. [24] His durability is enhanced even further after his metamorphosis as he took a full-powered punch from The Daikaiju of the Meireki Era without flinching and only a little bleed from his nose. [27] Immense Speed and Reflexes: In his kaiju form, Kafka possesses immense speed and reflexes as he can evade Soshiro's extremely fast sword attacks with relative ease. [22] Even when not fully transformed, Kafka has shown to be able to run at tremendous speeds, impressing even Soshiro Hoshina himself. [30] After gaining a new Core, his speed is now evolved, as he managed several blows while keeping up with the The Daikaiju of the Meireki Era, as Soshiro Hoshina and Gen Narumi were unable to land a single blow despite their speed and prediction, even with their Number Weapons proved useless against it, he also avoided all of Meireki's (using No. 2's) energy barrage despite their trajectory changes and only get a single hit nevertheless survived.[27][28] Unlimited Energy Source: As mentioned by Kafka, the 400-year-old ancient warriors' negative emotions turned into a "neverending stream of pitch-black fuel" that powers his Kaiju form, which was realized after he strengthened his resonance with them. Energy Attacks: Kafka can power up his body with electrical-like energy that flows through his body and spine. [3] Usually, the energy is used to make some of his attacks more powerful. [3] Energy Roar: By concentrating the energy in his spine and opening his mouth wide, Kafka can release a powerful energy roar that can easily neutralize attacks from individuals as powerful as Kaiju No. 9. [21] Energy Boost: Working in tandem with his shapeshifting powers, Kafka's Energy Manipulation can take the form of energy flowing out of his body's pores like thrusters, enhancing the strength and speed of his attacks. [20] Shapeshifting: Kafka can manipulate parts of his body, manifesting tentacles and even smaller heads and limbs on his body, and can turn his tongue into a long-range capturing weapon. [3] He can also use this power, in conjunction with his energy and super strength, to shapeshift his elbows into thrusters, for more powerful blows or to morph his legs for better stability. [20] Having more fine control over it, he’s able to block weapons by changing any area of his body into a jaw to grab hold of bladed attacks. [22] Gigantification: When out of control, Kaiju No. 8 can grow in size.[9] Kaiju Sense: Kafka can sense when a kaiju will appear near him or already in the vicinity his present whereabouts. [3] He is also able to determine what type the kaiju is if he has encountered it before. [3] More powerful kaiju can trigger this ability even when Kafka is not transformed. [31] Regeneration: Kafka can regenerate from attacks and regrow back limbs, but doing so consumes his stamina. [22] When going out of control, Kafka's body can instantly regrow from his core after detaching it from his body.[9] Regeneration Disruption: Kajiu No. 9 noted his regeneration became impaired from Kafka's heavy blows during their first battle, later revealed to be due to the Mysterious Larva's vengeful souls of the ancient warriors. Force Shield: Similar to Kaiju No. 9 through No. 2's powers, after turning his Human heart into a core, Kafka has shown to have a similar force shield around his core, withstanding the The Daikaiju of the Meireki Era's slashing attack.[12] Abilities

   Kaiju Knowledge: Kafka's time as a member of the kaiju disposal team gives him immense knowledge of kaiju anatomy, using it to identify weaknesses and the type of kaiju he's facing. [13][14][32] Even when working with his Defense Force suit, from which Kafka can only draw 1% of its power, he can easily pierce through a kaiju's corpse and dig into it to further study it and localize the core.    Reno Ichikawa (市いち川かわ レノ, Ichikawa Reno) is the deuteragonist of the Kaiju No. 8 series.

   He briefly worked at Monster Sweeper Inc. where he met and befriended Kafka Hibino.[1] After witnessing Kafka's transformation, Reno helped him enter the Defense Force and joined with him.[4][5] He was a member of the Third Division and after destruction of Tachikawa Base he was transferred to the Fourth Division.[6]

   Respirator Mask: Reno wears a respirator mask in combat.[11]

   Rifle: Reno uses a rifle in combat as his main weapon of choice, equipped with brust rounds and freeze rounds.[11][7]

   Numbers Weapon 6 (識別怪獣兵器ナンバーズ6号ごう, Nanbāzu Roku-gō): Marked EC-0115 and provided by Izumo Tech, Reno's personal Numbers weapon is a special combat suit, recognized as the Defense Force's most powerful and dangerous weapon, made from the corpse of Kaiju No. 6. This suit allows the user to release ice.[7] The suit also increases his overall skill and physical abilities far beyond that of the standard combat suits of the Defense Force.[7]

   Cannons: Reno earned sixteen smaller cannons, marked FN-0006 and provided by Izumo Tech, to go with his Numbers Weapon. The cannons allow him to better control his freezing attack and easily freeze multiple giant-size Daikaiju with no effort.[16]

   Combat Suit (formerly): Before being given Numbers Weapon 6, Reno would wears the usual combat suit of the Defense Force.

   Reno is a tall, slender young man with short silver hair and big violet eyes. He usually shows a neutral unfazed look on his face, but this expression usually changes to exasperation or incredulity when around Kafka.

   Earlier in the series, Reno wore the usual Defense Force combat suit when on the battlefield. Reno's new combat suit is unique compared to the regular combat suit's worn by other Defense Force members, being the Numbers Weapon forged from Kaiju No. 6's corpse. It is a dark-blue armory suit with pipes and pistons on the back and shoulders, the Izumo Tech logo on the left side of the chest plate and the 006 insignia on the chest.[7

   Personality

   Reno is a calm and collected person. Despite initially antagonizing Kafka for giving up on his dream, he later shows a softer and more caring side towards his friend and his condition and goals. As their bond grows, Reno begins to show his protective side, not only towards Kafka but towards any of his comrades. His resolve in fighting in order to protect his peers brings him to completely ignore Iharu Furuhashi's one-sided rivalrly towards him and still put his safety first.

   In battle, Reno is a determined and straightforward person, being a natural thinker on his own. Due to his immense sense of resposibility towards his colleagues and his desire in becoming stronger, an extended usage of his Numbers Weapon can bring Reno to spiral out of control and push himself past his limits in order to be strong enough to save those around him.    Overall Abilities: Reno is a strong troop member with great potential. He is noted by Soshiro Hoshina to have the potential to become a captain,[8] proven when he was able to momentarily stall a kaiju as strong as Kaiju No. 9.[9] Jugo Ogata states that he is a prodigy.[7]

   After becoming compatible with Numbers Weapons 6, the Defense Force's most powerful and dangerous weapon made from the corpse of Kaiju No. 6, Reno's combat skills and abilities have drastically improved, allowing him to move much faster and neutralizing a pack of kaiju on his own.[7] However, despite drastically agumenting his fighting prowess, it seems that the suit has a negative influence on Reno's behavior, bringing him to fight out of control in order to defeat his opponent. In fact, due to his immense sense of resposibility, Reno is able to draw a lot of power out of his suit but brings his human body past his limit, to the point of tearing his muscles and breaking his bones just to beat his enemy.[10] Powers

   High Unleashed Combat Power: When Reno first tries on his Defense Force combat suit, he is able to initially release 8% of the suit's power.[11] After shooting training, he is able to release 18%, having drastically improved as noted by Iharu.[12] Currently, while wearing Numbers Weapon 6, Reno's full released force has risen to 43% and he can further increase his suit's power to 51%.[13] Enhanced Speed and Reflexes: Reno is incredibly fast, surprising Kafka with how fast he can move while carrying him.[14] He also has incredible reflexes, able to dodge Kaiju No. 9's extremely fast attacks.[15] His speed is greatly agumented when wearing Numbers Weapon 6.[13] Enhanced Endurance: Reno has incredible levels of physical endurance, able to continue fighting after Kaiju No. 9 shot him multiple times.[15] When wearing Numbers Weapon 6, Reno is able to keep fighting even with fractured bones and muscle tears.[10] Cryokinesis: By using Numbers Weapon 6, Reno is able to released high amounts of ice and freezing energy from his body, replicating Kaiju No. 6's late powers.[7] Reno can use it to stick to his surroundings by releasing ice from his feet, to stabilize his footing. The suit also includes freezing rounds.[7] Reno can also freeze his enemies with a simple touch of his hand.[13] After training his skills even further, Reno can now manage to freeze a whole horde of Daikaiju in one single attack.[16] Abilities

   Expert Marksman: Reno is a very skilled marksman.[12][9] Advanced Growth Rate: After only one month of training, Reno is able to use Numbers Weapon 6 in combat with great proficiency. According to Toko, Reno's ability to improve far surpasses that of Kikoru Shinomiya's even though his current released force is lower than hers

   Mina Ashiro (亜あ白しろ ミナ, Ashiro Mina) is the captain of the Third Division of the Defense Force and the childhood friend of Kafka Hibino.[1]

   Mina is a beautiful young woman with waist-length black hair that is styled into a ponytail and decorated with a barrette, big dark-orange eyes with a mole under each eye and an athletic physique.[1] Under her uniform, she has a small scar on the left side of her upper chest.[3]

   When she was 18, her hair were shorter and styled into a bob cut.[5]

   She usually wears the Defense Force combat suit, along with a white visor that enables her to increase her vision. In battle, she usually wields firearms and her personal cannon.[6] Gallery

   Personality

   Mina is a serious and determined woman who takes her work and role in the Defense Force very seriously and she strives to uphold the promise made as a child to defeat every kaiju to the point that she dedicates all of herself to kaiju fighting. Despite her professional behavior, she has a soft spot for Kafka Hibino: although she was upset with him for not keeping his promise to stand at her side, she remembers their friendship fondly and wishes to see him succeed in the Defense Force, even after learning he was Kaiju No. 8.

   Under her tough exterior, Mina shows her authentic self as a caring person who does her best to make sure nobody gets injured in a fight and keep everyone safe. She is also prone to showing gratitude to her subordinates, praising people for their help whenever possible and being able to acknowledge someone's worth. However, these traits also contribute to a deep seated fear of failure within her. In her mind, any mistake would invalidate the sacrifices of her comrades and violate the trust civilians have in her. Although unhealthy, this mindset is also what drives her to perform as well as she does in battle.[5] ADVERTISEMENT

   Power & Abilities

   Overall Abilities: Mina is the Defense Force Third Division captain who is known as "the strongest" female captain of the Defense Force [7] where she has neutralized hundreds of kaiju in her career.[1] She has displayed the power to easily overpower giant-sized kaiju with a few shots.[8] According to director general Keiji Itami, against giant kaiju Mina is stronger than Gen Narumi, furtherly stating that she's the only person in the world able to work with larger weapons in such a proficient way.[9] Itami even went on to theorize that, against Kaiju No. 6 ten years ago, the damage that occurred could've been mitigated to under a third if Mina was active back then.[9]

   Mina's incredible might was acknowledged from the very first mission she had with the Third Division. director general Isao Shinomiya, upon finding out about her power, even declared that she was "the missing link" and that she'd change kaiju neutralization forever.[5] Even an enemy like Kaiju No. 9 acknowledges and admires Mina's strength, wishing to take it from her to grow stronger.[10] Powers

   High Unleashed Combat Power: As a Defense Force captain, Mina is capable of using a high amount of her combat suit's power. Her maximum unleashed combat power is 96%.[8] Enhanced Strength: Mina possesses incredible physical strength as shown when she easily carries around her large cannon in combat with dexterity.[11] Enhanced Speed and Reflexes: Mina is incredibly swift and agile, capable of moving around the battlefield gracefully while dodging multiple attacks from an empowered Kaiju No. 9.[12][13] Abilities

   Master Marksman: Mina is a marksman of the highest caliber that she is known as "The Defense Force's Strongest Supergiant-Class Killer" because of her extraordinary marksmanship skills and mastery of her personal cannon. Her shots also possess tremendous power behind them as shown when she easily defeated a large kaiju.[8] Mina can also have her tiger Bakko stabilize her, increasing her accuracy to precisely hit specific parts of a kaiju's body.[11] Mina's skill as a marksman is great enough to surpass even that of Gen Narumi, who is hailed as "Japan's Strongest Anti-Kaiju Combatant."[14] Leadership Skills: As the captain of the Third Division, Mina has shown excellent leadership skills.[1] ADVERTISEMENT

   Cannon: Marked T-25101985 and provided by Izumo Tech, Mina's cannon in conjunction with her high force released with firearms is a powerful weapon, able to seriously damage or kill massive daikaiju-level targets with only a few rounds.[8] Unfortunately, she can only carry a finite number of rounds on her person and can load up to 5 rounds at a time.[16]

   Anti-Giant-Class Kaiju Rail Gun (対大型怪かい獣じゅう固レ定ー電ル磁ガ砲ン, Tai Ōgata-Kaijū Rēru Gan): Mina's new weapon specially made to suit her skills. A giant cannon that allows her to instant kill Daikaiju level monsters even from a 20 kilometers distance.[4]

   Etymology

   Mina's surname Ashiro contains the kanji for "second, Asia" (亜, a) and "white" (白, shiro). Trivia

   Mina likes sweet food, baths and has liked dried cuttlefish ever since she was young.[2][17] Mina likes cats and any kind of feline.[2] When Mina was in elementary school, she was the caretaker of animals.[17] Mina owns a grey tiger named Bakko, which she brings with her to fight kaiju.[1] According to Naoya Matsumoto, the combat suit used by the Defense Force was originally designed to suit Mina.[2] Mina ranked #7 in the first character popularity polls and #6 in the second

   Soshiro Hoshina (保ほ科しな 宗そう四し郎ろう, Hoshina Sōshirō)[6] is the vice-captain of the Third Division of the Defense Force,[4] and a member of the Hoshina Family, a renowned clan of swordsmen from the Muromachi period.[7] He is also Soichiro Hoshina's younger brother.[3]

   Soshiro is an athletic young man of average height with a small yet muscular build and dark violet short hair in a bob cut style. His red eyes (purple in the anime) are closed most of the time and he always has a jovial expression on his face,[6] except when serious scenarios made him display an imposing expression with his eyes opened.[12]

   When on-duty, Soshiro wears the usual Defense Force uniform.[4] He also wears the normal combat suit used by Defense Force members when on the battlefield.[12] While wearing Numbers Weapon 10, Soshiro wears a combat suit with light-purple scale-like armor with green outlines, a long mechanical tail and Kaiju No. 10's signature eye in the middle of the chest plate.[13]

   Personality

   Soshiro is rather laid-back, always having a smile on his face; it is very rare to see him downtrodden. He seems to enjoy making fun of others, especially Kafka Hibino considering him a comic relief.[6] However, he does have some serious moments when he speaks firmly and open his eyes to emphasize the seriousness of his words.[14] Soshiro also likes to tease captain Gen Narumi from the First Division. Despite Soshiro's relaxed and friendly appearance, he is very intelligent and intuitive. He was the only one who correctly suspected Kafka's identity as Kaiju No. 8, thus one of the main reasons he accepted him in the Third Division despite failing the exam was to keep an eye on him.[14]

   Soshiro has a great, yet hidden, sense of loyalty towards the Defense Force and feels very thankful towards his captain Mina Ashiro for letting him into her division. His sense of loyalty to his role in the force is so strong that he deep down sees it as his only reason to live.[2] Soshiro is also very thankful as seen when he talked to Kafka two months after he proved to be Kaiju No. 8 and thanked him for saving his life and those of his subordinates showing to hold no grudge towards him.[15]

   Soshiro is also very linked to his family and its swordsmanship tradition. His father's skepticism of his abilities[2] and his feeling of inferiority towards his older brother Soichiro Hoshina [3] brought Soshiro to hone his swordplay and identify his whole being within the art of the blade.[3] He was also seen training alone despite being very late at night, replaying in his mind the fight he had against Kaiju No. 8. This further proves that Soshiro is also very hard-working and determined to be strong enough to defeat all the Kaiju. However, During his fight with Kaiju No. 12, No. 10 digged into Soshiro's psyche and made him realize that he always had fun swinging the sword , with Soshiro finally accepting his simplemindedness as his main resolve for fighting and improving himself.[16]

   Soshiro is aware that times have changed and the era of swords is more than over and most members of the Defense Force look down on him because of his fighting style. Despite this he feels it is his duty to wield his sword because he's spent better part of his life in training and improving his swordmanship and it's the only way he knows to fight against Kaiju. In battle, Soshiro is perceptive enough to notice his opponent's mental state as well as the mood of the skirmish itself, alerting him whenever a fight is favorably going his way or otherwise and thus adapting on the spot.    Overall Abilities: Soshiro is the vice-captain of the Third Division of the Defense Force and a powerful combatant, capable of fighting on par with Kaiju No. 10.[17][18][19] While his skill set puts him at a disadvantage against large-sized Kaiju, Soshiro's proficiency in defeating small to mid-sized Kaiju in battle surpasses that of the captain of the First Division, "Japan's Strongest Anti-Kaiju Combatant", Gen Narumi.[20]

   Ever since wearing Numbers Weapon 10, Soshiro's physical attributes have been dampened due to the weapon being the first Kaiju weapon in the history of the Defense Force to have a mind of it’s own.[21] However, when reaching a temporary status of synchronization, Soshiro is able to easily overpower minor Kaiju, with the potential to use his Numbers Weapon to the fullest.[22]

   Against Kaiju No. 12, the improved and final version of Kaiju No. 10, Soshiro is initially overwhelmed by the monster due to it possessing far superior speed, strength and fighting ability compared to No. 10.[23] But after revealing his secret weapon, Soshiro is able to gain the upper hand on No. 12 for a short period of time before the monster adapts to his fighting style.[3][5] Eventually, after a very tough battle, Soshiro is able to defeat No. 12 with a new technique that he develops during their battle.[24][25] Powers

   High Unleashed Combat Power: As a Defense Force vice-captain, Soshiro is capable of using a high amount of his combat suit's power. His maximum unleashed combat power in a normal Defense Force combat suit is 92%,[26] but abusing the suit's power will cause him to overheat.[27] While wearing Numbers Weapon 10, he is capable of using 100% of his suit's power.[16] Enhanced Strength: Soshiro has incredible physical strength, able to slice through Kaiju No. 8's incredibly tough skin with ease.[28] He is also capable of slicing through Kaiju No. 10's tough skin despite being heavily damaged, something not even Kikoru Shinomiya could do with her own personal weapon.[29] During his training session with Kafka and without wearing a combat suit, Soshiro is able to overwhelm the latter with only a few punches [30] and sends him back a great distance with one punch while he is holding a reinforced training bag.[31] Immense Speed and Reflexes: Soshiro is an extremely fast combatant with extraordinary reflexes. He is shown killing a Kaiju without any noticeable movement.[7] Kafka (in his Kaiju form) is shocked by how fast he moves and states that his speed is on a whole other level when compared to Kikoru.[28] His speed is so great that he even impressed Kaiju No. 10 with how fast he can move.[32] He is also capable of dodging extremely fast attacks from Kaiju No. 10,[17][18][19] as well as Kaiju No. 12,[3] at point blank range. Enhanced Durability: Soshiro is an incredibly durable combatant as shown when he emerges completely unscathed after Kaiju No. 10 sends him flying through a building.[18] Enhanced Endurance: Soshiro possesses tremendous levels of physical endurance. Despite being heavily injured after taking a powerful punch from Kaiju No. 10, he is able to continue fighting even after his suit overheats.[27] After going well beyond his suit's limit, he is still able to push beyond and use 63% of his suit's power despite being heavily fatigued.[2] Abilities

   Master Swordsman: Soshiro is an extremely skilled swordsman who hails from the Hoshina Family, a family of Kaiju slayers dating back to the Muromachi period, and is one of the Defense Force’s strongest blade specialists. When using his custom-made twin swords or his katana, Soshiro can quickly cut down his opponents with extreme speed and precision.[7][3] According to his father, even at a very young age, Soshiro would’ve been considered a prodigy in the Edo period due to his extraordinary mastery in swordsmanship.[2] Soshiro further showcased his mastery in swordsmanship by coming up with a new form in the middle of the fight against Kaiju No. 12.[24] His older brother and captain of the Sixth Division, Soichiro Hoshina, states that when it comes to the blade, Soshiro stands above everyone in the Hoshina Family past or present.[25] Martial Arts Mastery: Despite specializing in swordsmanship, Soshiro is a highly skilled unarmed fighter. He is capable of using Isao Shinomiya's fighting style with great proficiency and easily overpower Kafka Hibino in their training session.[30] His close-quarters fighting ability is stated to be the strongest within the entire Defense Force.[5] He was even capable of evolving Isao's fighting techniques.[33] Leadership Skills: As a vice-captain, Soshiro has shown excellent leadership skills, able to guide a whole platoon and multiple officers on the battlefield during major battles.[34] Keen Intellect: Soshiro is a very intelligent man. He is shown explaining, in detail, the catastrophes that Kaiju No. 9 caused as well as it’s abilities to the eastern division of the Defense Force [20] and is able to deduce the location of No. 9's whereabouts.[35] He also likes to plan for the future as shown when he asked Konomi Okonogi to develop a new secret weapon just in case Kaiju No. 9 observed his battle with Kaiju No. 10.[3] Fighting Style

   Soshiro's unleashed combat power when it comes to using firearms is low, so he prefers close-ranged sword fighting. Unlike other Defense Force officers, Soshiro uses his family's unique fighting style, known as Hoshina Style (保ほ科しな流, Hoshina-ryū)[18] His extraordinary mastery in swordsmanship allows him to brutally kill a Kaiju before Kafka's eyes without the latter noticing any movement from him.[7] After many battles, Soshiro even managed to created a completely new form mid-fight against Kaiju No. 12, showing how much his skills with the dual style sword-slay technique has improved over the years.[24]

   Soshiro's field of expertise with his style is the sword-slay technique, used with a Dual-Blade Form (二刀型, Nitō-gata). His skills and power easily allow him to fight toe-to-toe with Kaiju of Identified class, like No. 8,[28] No. 10[18] and No. 12.[5] He also proved to use the quick-slash technique and the single-blade form with remarkable ability, despite the latter being Soichiro's specialty.

   Kikoru Shinomiya (四しノの宮みや キコル, Shinomiya Kikoru)[2] is one of the main protagonists of the Kaiju No. 8 series. She is the young daughter of Defense Force Director General Isao Shinomiya and a member of the Third Division.[5] After Tachikawa Base was destroyed,[6] Kikoru was transferred to the First Division and was trained by Gen Narumi.[7]

   Kikoru is a petite and fairly short young girl with long blonde hair that is tide in twintails on the sides, decorated with two black bows, big green eyes and she possesses a rather skinny yet athletic physique.[2] Considering her overall appearance and her hair, she resembles her mother Hikari Shinomiya very much.[12]

   On duty, Kikoru wears the usual combat suit of the Defense Force along with her usual arsenal.[13] With Numbers Weapon 4 as her new personal weapon, Kikoru dons a light-colored scaly suit with a long skirt. It has both of Izumo Tech's logos (the one for weapons at the end of the skirt and the regular one at the top) and the 004 insignia on the chest.[14]

   Her casual attire consists of a long grey dress.[2]

   When Kikoru was a child, she had slightly shorter hair with the same hair as today.

   Personality

   Kikoru appears as an arrogant and prideful girl [2] who is very confident in her ability to look down on people and humiliate those she deems inferior without a second thought.[5][16] Kikoru is also a very persistent and determined person, working hard to constantly improve herself and becoming stronger and more useful whenever she can. Even towards superior officers, she still manages to show her confidence, although in a much more polite and less arrogant way.

   Despite this more evident trait, Kikoru deep down cares about her comrades and does whatever in her power to avoid casualties or injuries whenever she's on the battlefield. She is also a loyal person, showing gratitude towards Kafka Hibino for saving her, and keeping his secret. Even if it's hidden by her proud and unafraid nature, she cares for her allies well-being and goes as far as needed to ensure their safety or simply to support them.

   It is revealed that Kikoru used to be very fond of her parents' work as Defense Force members, and this brought her to desire to join the Force herself. However, every since Hikari Shinomiya's death, Kikoru grew a hidden yet large sense of insecurity that brought her to push herself to get stronger and stronger, in order to keep the promise made to her mother. This, in tandem with Isao Shinomiya's overly high expectations on Kikoru, cause her to constantly feel the need to get stronger to avoid the death of anyone around her. Her relationship with her father and everything regarding her family as a whole seem to make her insecure and hesitant, easily breaking down in despair. This feelings obviously increased ever since Isao's death with her wish to get stronger growing again due to living the same trauma twice. Hidden in Kikoru's subconscious, in fact, lies her obsessive desire of being praised by her parents and grant their approval, fueling her will to become stronger in order to prove to be worthy of their praise.

   Overall Abilities: Kikoru is the daughter of two famous high-ranking former Defense Force soldiers with a prodigious talent. Despite being a first-year rookie, many of her peers and superiors acknowledged her combat prowess is second to no one, allowing her to single-handedly neutralize a horde of Yoju and their Honju all by herself, and with minimal effort.[16] Her excellent skills in combat, in tandem with her remarkable Unleashed Combat Power and tactical skills, earned Kikoru the praise of many senior officers, most of them agreeing that she will become a linchpin of the Defense Force in the future. Ever since being enlisted, her abilities earned her the privilege of wielding a personal weapon in battle, which is usually only granted to higher ranking Division members.[17] Keiji Itami states that watching her on the battlefield reminds him of her mother, former Second Division Captain Hikari Shinomiya.[12]

   Kikoru shows a rare compatibility with number weapons, achieving class 5 compatibility with Numbers Weapon 4, and class 4 with Numbers Weapon 1, 2, and 7.[18]

   After being granted Numbers Weapon 4 by Captain Gen Narumi,[19] Kikoru's already exceptional physical attributes evolved even further, allowing her to easily spar with Gen himself, with him also wearing a Numbers Weapon,[20] and eliminate kaiju with a Fortitude level of 7.0.[3] The suit also allows her to temporarily fight on par with a Identified Kaiju of Kaiju No. 15's caliber.[21] Kikoru can see her mother's Ghost through Kaiju No. 4's memories while wearing Numbers Weapon 4, allowing her to mimic her mother's movement and improve her combat techniques.[22] By following her mother's Ghost in battle and copying its moves, Kikoru's combat prowess reaches numbers and performances worth of a Captain-level officer.[23] Powers

   Axemanship Mastery: Kikoru is highly skilled at killing kaiju, so much so that she is granted her own personal weapon, a giant axe.[17] Initially trained by Soshiro Hoshina[11], Kikoru's axemanship has evolved significantly within the First Division.[27][12] After training with Gen Narumi, Kikoru's level of skill and performance in battle now resembles that of a Division Captain.

   Numbers Weapon 4 (識別怪獣兵器ナンバーズ4号ごう, Nanbāzu Yon-gō): Just like her mother Hikari Shinomiya, Kikoru is compatible with Numbers Weapon 4, a special combat suit made from the corpse of Kaiju No. 4.[14] It is the Defense Force's fastest Numbers weapon, giving her immense speed on the battlefield and the only one capable of flight.

   Numbers Weapon 1 (1, Nanbāzu Ichi-gō): In the fight with Kaiju No. 9, Gen Narumi gives weapon number 1 to Kikoru Shinomiya, allowing her to predict his attacks and assist Kafka.[30]

   Battle Axes

   First Battle Axe (formerly; destroyed): A "Failed Prototype", marked AX-0112 which had been made from the uni-organ of a Honju who generated strong bioelectric potential contracting its muscle fiber, then fires the air it took in as a shockwave, after being subjugated two years prior in Shinagawa. Designed to be tough and heavy to compensate, it became heavy for those without a high released power, equipped with a trigger that, when pulled, releases a shockwave through an electric current. If released from behind it accelerates the force of the swing,while releasing it forward adds greater force.[17] The axe was destroyed during her third encounter with Kaiju No. 9.[26] Second Battle Axe: A second battle axe, marked AX-0113, was later given for Kikoru.[3] Giant Sword (tentative; destroyed) After proving herself to Mina Ashiro and Soshiro Hoshina, 03 5-12066 was intended to be her Custom Weapon and Prototype crafted from the shell of a Reptilian Kaiju which emerged in Hamamatsu a year prior, with Izumo Tech producing a tough yet lightweight final product. Equipped with three thrusters on the blunt side of the blade that produces a strong and fast swing which could cut through three Crustacean-type Yoju. Although, it was an "outrageous weapon" in combat, it proved almost incapable of cutting through hardened shells without much effort, lacking decisive killing power for Kikoru's ideal weapon.

   Handgun: Kikoru carries a handgun for long-ranged attacks, equipped with a torch and a laser sight.[27]

   Narumi (鳴なる海み 弦げん, Narumi Gen) is the seventh captain[7] of the First Division of the Defense Force, and he is known as "Japan's Strongest Anti-Kaiju Combatant".[4] He is also the mentor of Kikoru Shinomiya.[8]

   Gen is a tall, athletic young man with a lean yet muscular build.[12] His hair is naturally all black,[10] but he dyed the front section of his hair grey to give it a two-toned color. This allows him to switch his hairstyle between a black bob with hints of grey (generally when he is off-duty) and slicked back, revealing the majority of his grey hair (mostly during combat). He also has sharp, red eyes (magenta in the anime and when using RT-0001) and his eyebrows are very short and thick.[13][6]

   As a teenage officer in the First Division, Gen was shorter and lankier than he is now, but sported the same signature hairstyle he currently wears.[14]

   As a Defense Force captain, Gen wears the normal Defense Force combat suit with a respirator mask and his personal weapon. He also wears a black trenchcoat before his missions.[2] When wearing Numbers Weapon 1, Gen dons a dark grey armored-like combat suit with Izumo Tech's logo on the shoulder pads and the 001 insignia on the chest.    Personality

   Despite showing an apparent serious demeanor, Gen hides a lazy and childish personality, overreacting when slightly annoyed by something. His unprofessional demeanor brings him to give priorities to futile things over work like his videogames and action figures,[6] or his followers on social media.[4]

   Nevertheless, once he arrives on the battlefield, Gen's attitude changes radically, becoming very serious and dedicated to his work as captain of his own division, giving specific orders to his subordinates.[2]

   When confronting other people, Gen seems to be very informal and rude as he casually speaks up to director general Isao Shinomiya[5] and gets mad at Eiji Hasegawa whenever the latter scolds him.[6] He seems to value skills above all else, and demands results by anyone serving in his division.[2] Despite his childish and superficial behavior, Gen is still held in high regard by many people close to him with Director General Isao himself entrusting Gen with the safety of the Defense Force and the entire country.[16]

   During his battle against Kaiju No. 9's Beta duplicate (stated by the original No. 9 to be as strong as it was before shedding its skin), Gen easily defeated the daikaiju's clone once he got serious[19] and was able to fight on par with No. 9's main body alongside Kafka Hibino after it absorbed Kaiju No. 2's power.[16][20] While initially at a disadvantage against Kaiju No. 11 due to not being able to read the movements of its water-based attacks, after being taunted by No. 11 who possesses the memories of Isao, Gen reveals that he evolved his RT-0001 weapon which allowed him to gain the upper hand[14][7] and defeat the monster.[18]

   Even before joining the Defense Force, Gen possessed the unique ability to draw out power from kaiju tissue and weaponize the severed limb of a dead kaiju effortlessly. This unique ability is something that can only be done with uniorgans that are adjusted for use in combat suits. His instincts, speed and reflexes were great enough to avoid an attack coming straight at him and sever one of the kaiju's limbs before it can react.[9] Powers

   Foresight: Gen awakened the RT-0001 weapon after equipping the outer-shell light spectacles made from Kaiju No. 1's retinas into his own eyes on a regular basis.[11] With this weapon, he has the ability to see the brain impulses throughout living beings' bodies which allows him to predict when and where an enemy is going to strike and his attacks become "inescapable",[19] however, he is not able to predict the movements of non-organic objects like water.[21] This power is further enhanced when he wears the Numbers Weapon 1 combat suit.[22] After years of training, Gen managed to evolve his RT-0001 weapon which is now capable of perceiving the movements of electrons', temperature fluctations, the terrain and every detail of a location through the eyes all around his Numbers Weapon 1 combat suit, making it possible for him to predict what happens via a clear mental vision. With his evolved weapon, he literally has the power to see the future.[7] High Unleashed Combat Power: As a Defense Force captain, Gen is capable of using a high amount of his combat suit's power. When he first joined the Defense Force, his unleashed combat power was 24% despite the fact that he had never worn a combat suit before.[5] Years later after reaching the rank of captain, his maximum unleashed combat power in a normal Defense Force combat suit is 98%.[12] Enhanced Strength: Gen has incredible physical strength; he can swing his large bayonet around in combat with dexterity[12] and slice through a daikaiju's tough skin with ease.[12][16][20][14] Immense Speed and Reflexes: Gen is extremely fast; his speed is so great that his attacks become "inescapable" when he uses RT-0001,[19][16] and he is shown outrunning Kafka Hibino in his kaiju form when rushing to aid Isao Shinomiya in his fight against Kaiju No. 9.[23] He can even close the gap between him and his opponent in an instant to catch them off guard and deliver a devastating blow.[12][16][14] His reflexes are also top notch, as he is capable of dodging Kaiju No. 9's high-speed attacks, even when caught off guard.[16] Enhanced Durability: Gen is an incredibly resilient fighter, as shown when he emerges completely unscathed from a powerful attack from Kaiju No. 9.[12] Even after No. 9 absorbed Kaiju No. 2's power, he only received minor injuries during the fight.[20] In his battle against Kaiju No. 11, Gen only received moderate injuries from its water-based attacks.[21] Immense Endurance: Gen possesses tremendous levels of physical endurance and stamina. After fifteen minutes of a full release with Numbers Weapon 1 and even close to overheating, Gen is capable of enduring multiple water-based attacks from Kaiju No. 11 as well as a powerful blow from the monster itself that sent him flying through a building, receiving major injuries and still being able to battle.[21][8][14] Even when under the immense physical and mental stress of Numbers Weapon 1, Gen continues battling despite being severely injured.[7] Abilities

   Bayonet Mastery: Gen is extremely skilled at using his bayonet to kill kaiju, as shown when he defeats a large honju-level kaiju with a fortitude level of 7.2 by himself with great ease.[6] He uses the blade to slash and sear through a kaiju's body, making it very difficult for them to regenerate[12] and is shown to be a master marksman, capable of shooting his enemies with deadly accuracy and precision.[12][19] He also uses his bayonet as a shield to defend himself from attacks.[12][20] Martial Arts Mastery: Gen has been an incredibly skilled athlete and martial artist since childhood.[5][10] After joining the Defense Force, he was trained by Isao Shinomiya in different forms of combat such as hand-to-hand, swordsmanship and sharpshooting. His close-quarters fighting ability is said to rival Soshiro Hoshina, "The Defense Force's Strongest Close-Quarters Combatant".[14][7] Leadership Skills: As a captain, Gen has shown excellent leadership skills on the battlefield despite his lazy and childish personality, giving orders to his division with absolute authority.[2][24] Keen Intellect: Gen is a very intelligent individual despite his childish and eccentric nature.    Kaiju No. 9 (怪かい獣じゅう9号ごう, Kaijū Kyu-gō)[3], currently merged with the The Daikaiju of the Meireki Era, is the main antagonist of Kaiju No. 8 and its anime adaptation.

   It is a humanoid Identified Kaiju who goes around reviving the kaiju killed by the Defense Force for the sake of taking back the kaiju power stolen by humans, along with creating other Kaiju to serve as minions in an attempt to battle and destroy the Defense Force, other parts of its plans against humanity have not yet been revealed apart from this.[4][5] It previously infiltrated Professional Kaiju Cleaning Company Monster Sweeper Inc.[6]

   It appears as a tall beige humanoid kaiju with a skeletal body, spikes on its shoulder, and a head with two hammerhead shark-like protuberances.[4] Its mouth has a set of jagged lipless block-like teeth[4] and little round black eyes that it hides with its shapeshifting powers.[1] Its overall shape has a long and slender silhouette with an eerie appearance.[7] In the anime, Kaiju No. 9's body also contains faded brown coloration on its shoulders, fingers, knees and feet, and darker brown shade freckles on the chest and shoulders.

   After shedding its skin, Kaiju No. 9 has a more muscular appearance with a slightly darker skin tone.[5]

   In its fused form with an Ant-type kaiju, No. 9 has the lower part of its body replaced by an Ant-type kaiju which it controls and uses to move around.[8] After fusing with Kaiju No. 2, No. 9 is now much larger than before, keeping its darker skin tone, with a long tail, three sets of eyes and only one protuberance on its head instead of two.[9]

   In its fused form with Kaiju No. 2, No. 9 mostly keeps his appearance, although sprouting No. 2's head near its and an additional pair of arms behind its back.[10]

   Personality

   Kaiju No. 9 seems to be a cold and calm individual,[4] paying much attention to what happens around it.[6] It is ruthless and driven to finish its missions no matter what, and doesn't hesitate to kill enemies who engage it,[4][1] though it is also willing to spare innocent bystanders if it means to avoid drawing unwanted attention unto itself.[3] While calculating and aloof, it can still demonstrate pure anger and annoyance whenever it is defeated or if its plans are constantly thwarted.[6] Its weakness lies in the fact that it never seems to learn from its mistakes, having continually underestimated humanity in spite of the number of times that humans have exceeded the kaijus expectations of them.

   Kaiju No. 9's main personality trait is its determination in destroying the Defense Force and retrieving a great "kaiju power".[5] Its resolve, along with its scheming nature, brings it to formulate articulate and complex plans to crush the Defense Force. The focus on its plan is so strong that No. 9 appears as a completely apathetic and distant creature, showing no affection or even attention to the kaiju he spawned to eliminate the Defense Force officers.[11]

   In spite of its usual analytical, collected and rational demeanor, Kaiju No. 9 is not above being vengeful and holding a grudge against those who have defeated it or ruined its plans, like Kaiju No. 8.[3]

   Suprisingly, despite wanting to create a world ruled by Kaiju, No. 9 has stated that deep down it has always admired humans and their tenacity. It has always wanted to understand humanity and its potential further by learning more about their society. This point is further exemplified in No. 9's conversation with Kafka after its defeat in Chap 113. ADVERTISEMENT

   Powers & Abilities

   Overall Abilities: Kaiju No. 9 is one of the strongest kaiju seen so far in the series, having a fortitude level of 8.5 when it first appeared.[12] It was able to stall and almost kill two talented Defense Force members and could resist Kaiju No. 8's heavy attacks before fleeing from the scene without being spotted. According to Isao Shinomiya, No. 9 operates like a virus and is noted to be a major threat to the Defense Force by Keiji Itami.[13] After absorbing Kaiju No. 2's power, No. 9 is said to be the newly crowned King of Kaiju.[14] Powers

   Immense Strength: Kaiju No. 9 possesses immense physical strength, as shown when it overpowers and severely injures Isao Shinomiya with an extremely powerful punch.[12] Immense Speed and Reflexes: Kaiju No. 9 possesses incredible speed, able to move fast enough for Leno's eyes to follow it, and can flee from dangerous scenes without being spotted. Its reflexes are incredibly fast too, allowing it to deflect bullets fired from an automatic rifle with ease.[15] Immense Durability: Kaiju No. 9 is extremely durable, able to withstand a conductor round fired by Iharu without any sign of pain.[15] Shapeshifting: Kaiju No. 9 can completely morph its appearance, giving it a whole different human form than its monstrous original form.[6][3] It can also use its shapeshifting powers to hide and manifest its eyes[1], grow extra limbs at will[15] and even to mold into a new powerful version of itself.[5] Its shapeshifting powers allow it to completely stretch, morph and elongate its body. Detachment: Its most frequent offensive attack seem to be shooting chunks of its body from its index finger,[4] fast enough to injure the likes of Kikoru[4] and Leno,[1] and tear through their Defense Force suit. On the other hand, once someone can see through the timing of this attack, it becomes slightly easier to dodge it.[1] Its accuracy is less precise in its human form.[1] Also, these projectiles are not strong enough to significantly harm Kafka in his kaiju form.[16] Metamorphosis: Kaiju No. 9 can take the appearance of beings it consumes, usually humans.[6][3] It can also molt into a new improved body, more muscular than the original.[5] Memory Assimilation: By consuming humans, Kaiju No. 9 can take their appearance and also their memories.[3][14] Fusion: Kaiju No. 9 can fuse its body with that of a new kaiju, to enter a new powerful form. This power allows it to fuse both with simple Yoju monsters like the Ant-Types[8] and even powerful Daikaiju like Kaiju No. 2, even if the latter was turned into a weapon.[17] It was soon revealed that Kaiju No. 9 is an amalgamation of numerous Kaiju and Humans that were consumed and fused,[18] having full access to their abilities.[19] Duplication: Kaiju No. 9 can create duplicates of itself which are as powerful as its original form.[20][21] It refers to its duplicates as Beta (βべータ, Beta)[13] and Gamma (γガンマ, Ganma).[12] Flight: Through its shapeshifting powers, Kaiju No. 9 can manifest wings to freely fly.[9] Healing Powers: Kaiju No. 9 has healing abilities, that work both on it[22] and other kaiju.[4] Resurrection: Kaiju No. 9 has the power to resurrect dead kaiju, bringing them back to life stronger than they were before dying.[23] Although, there's a limit to how many kaiju it can resurrect because it tires it out.[1] Regeneration: Kaiju No. 9 can also heal itself from injuries to the point that it can even regrow its head after being decapitated.[22] However, multiple blows, strong like Kafka's, can overcome its regeneration and slow it down drastically.[16] Kaiju Creation: Through unknown means, Kaiju No. 9 can spawn other Kaiju itself, able to create a kaiju as powerful as Kaiju No. 10,[24] which is even considered a "prototype".[25] Kaiju-kinesis: It has the peculiar power of moving kaiju's corpses with its mind, using them as a barrage to block attacks or stall enemies.[15] Camouflage Space: It has shown the ability to create areas that cut off radio frequencies and vital signs causing people from the outside unable to enter or know their whereabouts while trapping their prey from escaping unless they choose to do so.[1] Energy Attacks: After fusing with Kaiju No. 2, No. 9 can release highly destructive energy attacks in the form of lightning from its mouth.[9] Force Shield: Using the power of Kaiju No. 2, No. 9 can manifest a force shield to protect itself from long-range attacks.[26] On top of being able to use it to protect his core from being destroyed.

   Kaiju No. 10 (怪かい獣じゅう10号ごう, Kaijū Jū-gō)[3] is an Identified Kaiju who attacked Tachikawa Base.[4] It was created by Kaiju No. 9[5] and is considered a "prototype".[6] It was then weaponized into Numbers Weapon 10 (識別怪獣兵器ナンバーズ10号ごう, Nanbāzu Jū-gō), currently used by Third Division Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina.[1]

   In the manga, Kaiju No. 10 was a very tall and muscular humanoid kaiju, with a crimson-colored carapace, dull spikes on the back, and a long spiky tail. It had an elongated cranium with a sharp horn on the front and a cross-like cavity on the face, with multiple teeth around, connected to its upper jaw. Its mouth was large with two rows of teeth, sharp on the more external row and squared in the internal row. Inside its mouth, he had one circular blue eye placed, visible from the cross-like cavity on its face.[7] In the anime, Kaiju No. 10's skin is colored red with magenta energy flowing through the openings, and had purple muscles and blood when injured.

   It could also morph into a second gigantic form, with spikes on its shoulders (tipped with magenta in the anime) and with its cross-like cavity opened to show its internal eye.[8]

   After being defeated by the Third Division, Kaiju No. 10 had been reduced to a head with its spine connected to its damaged core.[9] It was later weaponized into a Numbers Weapon, taking the form of a dark-grey scaly combat suit with a long mechanical tail and Izumo Tech's logo on the shoulder pads and tail.[1] The suit features No. 10's signature cross-shaped eye, now red, and long green energy lines on the arms and tail.[10]

   Personality

   Kaiju No. 10 is a ruthless and intimidating individual, driven to the utmost to accomplish its missions. He also seems to be quite confident, being a proud leader of a pack of kaiju and challenging the strongest member of the Defense Force he could find.[7]

   It seems to like fighting strong enemies, to the point of extending fights and taunting its rivals just for the sake of it.[11] Its prideful personality brings him to never admit defeat, but rather a "draw", even when almost at death point.[12] Its fight with Soshiro Hoshina managed to exicite it so much that, even after being defeated, it still felt linked to Soshiro and wished to be turned into a weapon for him, to fight with him once more. No. 10 seems to be a rather independent individual, easily betraying its progenitor Kaiju No. 9 just to get closer to Soshiro.[5] Plot

   Raid on Tachikawa Base Arc

   Kaiju No. 10 attacked the Tachikawa Base with his dozens of Preondactyl Kaiju, to collect Force members of the Defense Force.[4] It then faced Soshiro Hoshina head-on, proving to be on par, if not superior, with Kaiju No. 8's power.[7] As it kept on rushing Soshiro, No. 10 eventually destroyed Gate Number Three and got ready to finally finish off its opponent before having its arm detached by an unrestrained Soshiro.[11] With the fight going on, Kaiju No. 10 was slashed multiple times by Soshiro's blade style, until it suddenly morphed his appearance.[13] Upon growing in size, No. 10 easily resisted Soshiro's attack and, after spotting him behind himself, swatted him away with a powerful punch.[8] With Soshiro getting back up and continuing to fight, the kaiju eventually grabbed him to kill him, only to be shot in the shoulder by the Captain of the Third Division herself Mina Ashiro.[14] After this hit, the kaiju was furtherly attacked by Soshiro, Mina, and Kikoru Shinomiya, who were able to expose its core and shoot it, thus destroying it apparently.[15] After its giant body fell to the ground, a massive bomb made out of the Preondactyl Kaiju it guided appeared in the sky, with No. 10, now reduced to a decapitated talking head, taunting Soshiro by calling their fight "a draw". Moments later, much to its own disbelief, he saw Kaiju No. 8[12] jumping in the air to punch the Yoju-bomb away in the sky.[16] Kaiju No. 10's head was subsequently taken into custody by the Third Division.[9]

   Power & Abilities

   Overall Abilities: Kaiju No. 10 is an extremely powerful Identified kaiju, with a fortitude level of 8.3 when it first appeared,[7] and 9.0 after using it’s full power and growing larger in size.[8] The vice-captain of the Third Division of the Defense Force, Soshiro Hoshina, acknowledged that this kaiju could be on par with No. 8[7] since it was able to resist multiple attacks from Soshiro.[13] Even after being defeated, No. 10 still mantained a fortitude level of 5.7, despite being reduced only to a mere head without a body.[5] Powers

   Immense Strength: With just one of its punches, Kaiju No. 10 was able to crack concrete walls and pummel Vice-Captain Soshiro on the defensive.[7] After becoming enormous, the kaiju could destroy massive buildings with ease and send Soshiro flying away through several blocks with just one punch.[8] Immense Speed and Reflexes: Kaiju No. 10 seems to be fast enough to elude even the eye of a combatant of Soshiro's caliber, who is able to slash kaiju with extreme rapidity. Its reflexes seem to be incredibly fast too.[7] Immense Durability: Kaiju No. 10 has proved to endure multiple attacks from a combatant of Soshiro Hoshina's caliber without showing any sign of sufferance or fatigue.[13] Regeneration: Kaiju No. 10 seems to be able to heal itself upon getting slashed or injured.[13] Gigantification: By growing in size, Kaiju No. 10 gains much more power, with its Fortitude reaching its highest point. In this form, it is able to effortlessly push a high-ranking member of the Defense Force on the defensive.[8] Shapeshifting: Kaiju No. 10 can grow appendages and even eyes everywhere on its body.[8] Projectile Firing: Kaiju No. 10 can fire projectiles by flicking its fingers.     While the First Division was busing fighting Kaiju No. 9 and the Ant-type kaiju in Tokyo, Akira watched the battle from the temporary base with Director Isao Shinomiya, Keiji Itami and Nogizaka.[4] When Kaiju No. 9 appeared to attack Isao and retrieve the power of Kaiju No. 2, Akira asked Isao to evacuate before deciding to aid him in battle against the threat.[5] In the end, Akira stayed there even after Isao's death and was later saved by First Division Captain Gen Narumi from an attack thrown by No. 9.[6]

    Aoi is a tall, muscular, and tan-skinned young man with spiky short mint green hair, red eyes where he has a noticeable lack of eyebrows and he usually sports a serious look on his face.[3]

    On duty, he wears the Defense Force uniform as well as its combat suit on the battlefield.[3] Personality

    Plot

    The Man Who Became a Kaiju Arc

    Aoi took on the second-stage exam for the Defense Force and he arrived first in the fitness test, but he kept his eyes on Kikoru Shinomiya despite that.[3]

    For the aptitude test, he managed to draw 15% from the Defense Force Suit,[8] but during the test, he was unable to keep up with Kikoru.[9] After the end of the exam and the subsequent accident, he and the other examinees were brought to safety.[10] Days later, he was officially made a member of the Defense Force.[5]

    Sagamihara Neutralization Operation at Daybreak Arc

    Two months after Aoi and the others had the shooting training, he told Haruichi Izumo that he caught up to his force after unlocking 25% of his suit power. That night he and the other boys were in the bathroom talking about their reasons to enter the Defense Force. When he and the others heard that Kafka Hibino had a history with Captain Mina Ashiro, they talked about it so much that they overheated and fainted. That night, a kaiju appeared and their first mission started [7] where he and Haruichi quickly demonstrated their incredible ability in the field to their platoon leader Nakanoshima.[11] Then, he and Haruichi got ready to defeat all the Yoju after the Honju's death.[12]

    Days later, Aoi and his peers has a kendo traning session at Tachikawa Base, followed by journalists from Metro TV and Aoi decided to challenge Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina, a swords specialist. Despite being defeated, Aoi thanked Soshiro and said he'd work harder with Soshiro praising him and acknowledging his remarkable skills.[13]

    Raid on Tachikawa Base Arc

    During the raid, Aoi, Haruichi Izumo and Ryo Ikaruga fought the Wyvern-type kaiju under Kafka Hibino's instructions. As Aoi and Izumo were about to kill a kaiju, they were saved by Kikoru Shinomiya's surprise ax attack.[14] He later witnessed as Kafka transformed into Kaiju No. 8 to save everyone from a Yoju-bomb.[15]

    When Kafka Hibino was captured and brought away,[16] Aoi and the others were offered a place in another division since the Tachikawa Base was mostly destroyed. After Leno Ichikawa decided to accept, Aoi followed him in hoping to become stronger.[6]

    At some point, Aoi and Haruichi Izumo were transferred to the Second Division.[1]

    Kaiju Weapon Arc

    After Director General Isao Shinomiya's death at the hands of Kaiju No. 9, Aoi and Haruichi Izumo payed homage to him with the rest of their division.[1]

    At some point after the attack at the Tachikawa Base, Aoi texted Kafka Hibino to check on him.[17]

    Months later, Aoi and Haruichi Izumo found out that Leno Ichikawa became the first compatible person in history with Kaiju No. 6's weapon.[18]

    In the climax of the No. 9-induced cataclysms all over Japan, Aoi and Haruichi Izumo appeared in Kasumigaseki Area to fight against the Third Wave. As Haruichi was striking them down with his bow, Aoi reported their entrance as newly joined members of the Third Division.[2]

    Mina and Bakko, after Mina's apparent departure from Tachikawa Base, came back to defend it against a Kaiju No. 10, who attacked it with a horde of kaiju.[3]

    After the Third Division newbies' first mission in Sagamihara, Kafka Hibino asked Haruichi Izumo to organize a party to celebrate. Haruichi hired Dojima and his entourage as chefs, with Dojima serving them an A6-grade Japanese black wagyu beef marble-cut course. To the shock of the others, who wondered if A6-grade even existed, Haruichi told Dojima that he had originally asked for the cheapest meal, with Dojima offering to have them paying standard price.[1][2]

    Minutes later, Dojima and Haruichi had a private conversation, with the Head Chef saying he wasn't sure to ever see the boy again. Haruichi then thanked him for the meal and, when asked about his father, said that he hasn't spoken to him since a certain event.[2]

    At some point in history, when Mina Ashiro offered Soshiro Hoshina to become her Vice, after the latter's visit at Tachikawa Base, Ebina stormed his captain's office to inform her that a miniature kaiju emerged in Ome City. As Soshiro proposed to aid the Third Division, Ebina quickly reprimanded him before Mina agreed to Soshiro's offer.[3] On the way to Ome City, Ebina reprimanded Soshiro for being too relaxed. He then revealed to Soshiro that he knew his family and that the instructor of the Third Division praised Soshiro's sword skills. However, he made sure to remind Soshiro that "times have changed", referring to Soshiro's unsuited skillset for modern battlefields. On the scene, Ebina informed his men that some Lizard-type Kaiju emerged, and their job was to neutralize the yoju that a previous platoon failed to kill. Subsequently, the group engaged four yoju, successfully taking down one. However, as another one escaped, Soshiro promptly decided to chase it, despite Ebina's order to wait. After Soshiro defeated it, Ebina commended the officer, but when Soshiro faced a stronger and more mature yoju, Ebina and his men had to intervene to kill it and save Soshiro. Reunited, Ebina ordered Soshiro to look for some stranded children he was informed of, despite Soshiro's wish to fight more.     He was then present during the meeting with Gen, Kikoru, Director General Isao Shinomiya and Kafka Hibino where the latter was transferred in the First Division under Isao's decision.[5]

    After one of their afternoon trainings, Eiji informed Captain Gen Narumi and Kikoru Shinomiya that some kaiju attacked Shinagawa. He and the rest of the First Division then entered the area to neutralize the threats.[6]

    For the aptitude test, he managed to draw 18% from the Defense Force Suit,[7] but during the test, he was unable to keep up with Kikoru.[9] After the end of the exam and the subsequent accident, he and the other examinees were brought to security.[10] Days later, he was officially made a member of the Defense Force.[11]

    Sagamihara Neutralization Operation at Daybreak Arc

    Two months after, Haruichi and the others had the shooting training where he improved his power. That night, he and the other boys were in the bathroom talking about their reasons to enter the Defense Force. When he and the others heard that Kafka Hibino had a history with Captain Mina Ashiro, they talked about it so much that they overheated and fainted. That night, a kaiju appeared and their first mission started.[8] He and Aoi Kaguragi quickly demonstrated their incredible fighting ability to their platoon leader Nakanoshima.[12] Then, he and Aoi got ready to defeat all the Yoju after the Honju's death.[13]

    When Reno Ichikawa and Iharu Furuhashi got back from the hospital, Kafka asked Haruichi to organize a party to celebrate everyone's first mission. Haruichi's private chef Dojima prepared very expensive meat. During the party, he and the other Third Division members started discussing the mission. As they were all discussing the mission he watched as Soshiro announced Kafka's promotion to Officer of the Third Division of the Defense Force.[4] After the party, Haruichi thanked Dojima for his service, before the chef asked the young boy about his relationship with his father. Haruichi answered that he hasn't talked to his father since a certain event, before being interrupted by Aoi.[14]

    Days later, Haruichi and his peers had a kendo private training session, followed by Metro TV journalists. Haruichi and Reno sparred together, commending each other's kendo skills.[15]

    Raid on Tachikawa Base Arc

    During the raid, Haruichi, Aoi Kaguragi and Ryo Ikaruga fought the Wyvern-type kaiju under Kafka Hibino's instructions. As he and Aoi were about to kill a kaiju, another one attacked Haruichi before he was saved by Kikoru Shinomiya's surprise ax attack.[16] He later witnessed as Kafka transformed into Kaiju No. 8 to save everyone from a Yoju-bomb.[17]

    Kaiju No. 8 Captured Arc

    After Kafka Hibino was taken into custody,[18] Haruichi and the others were asked by Captain Ashiro to transfer to another division since Tachikawa Base was mostly taken down during the attack. Watching the others accept, Haruichi followed them, hoping to surpass Kikoru Shinomiya.[6] Awating transfer, Haruichi and Aoi discussed Kafka's fate in private, with Aoi mentioning his contacts in the JGSDF potentially vouching for Kafka.[19]

    At some point, Haruichi and Aoi Kaguragi were transferred to the Second Division.[1]

    Kaiju Weapon Arc

    After Director General Isao Shinomiya's death at the hands of Kaiju No. 9, Haruichi and Aoi Kaguragi payed homage to him with the rest of their division.[1]

    The Compatible User Arc

    At some point after the attack at Tachikawa Base, Haruichi texted Kafka Hibino to check on him.[20]

    Months later, Haruichi and Aoi Kaguragi found out Reno Ichikawa became the first compatible person in history with Kaiju No. 6's weapon.[21]

    The Last Wave Arc

    In the climax of the No. 9-induced cataclysms all over Japan, Aoi Kaguragi and Haruichi appeared in Kasumigaseki Area to fight against the Third Wave. As Aoi announced their entrance as newly joined members of the Third Division, Haruichi used his bow and arrows to struck down two kaiju from the Third Wave, lamenting how their first opponent out of training was a horde of Daikaiju.[2]

    In her youth, Hikari trained alongside future Fourth Division captain Jugo Ogata who encouraged Hikari when she had her compatibility test with Numbers Weapon 4.[6]

    Ten years ago, Hikari was the famous captain of the Second Division of the Defense Force, being admired by many. One day, after a successful kaiju neutralization, she came back home with Isao Shinomiya and, welcomed by a young and cheerful Kikoru Shinomiya, Hikari heard her daughter declaring her desire to join the Defense Force to save her mom.[3]

    A few time later, Hikari was involved in the series of cataclysms caused by Kaiju No. 6 and lost her life, sacrificing herself to stop the kaiju.[7][2] Power & Abilities

    Iharu is an hot-blooded and proud individual who doesn't like to be inferior to other people or losing, and constantly tries to improve more than those he deems stronger than him.[6] For this reason, he targeted Leno Ichikawa, bragging with him whenever he has the chance to do so.[6] Iharu is described as an headstrong character who brightens up every environment he's in.[1]

    Despite his apparently confident attitude, Iharu hides a big inferiority complex towards his peers, mostly due to his past life of success which he now compares to his current life in the Defense Force, where most of his collegues improve faster than him.[7] As a matter of fact, when pushed into difficult and life-threatening situations, Iharu displays a more fragile and insecure side, being aware of his own weaknesses and even admiring someone stronger than him like Leno himself.[8] Deep down, he values his own team and teammates more than he would admit.[2] Nevertheless, he's shown to be determined and very stubborn, refusing to give up and facing evey wall in his path to improve himself.[2] History

    Back when Iharu was still in middle school, he was saved from a kaiju by Mina Ashiro. This event would later inspire him to become a Defense Force member.[6].

    While attending Hachioji Neutralization Technical College, Iharu'd always been the top of his class, having the best score in every test, being the best at sports and mostly in everything, quickly becoming popular and admired by his classmates. This made Iharu believe he could become the best in anything he wanted developing an overinflated ego.[7] He later graduated valedictorian.[3] Plot

    Iharu took on the second-stage exam for the Defense Force. He finished third in the fitness test, but kept his eyes on Kikoru Shinomiya, having the desire to crush her.[3]

That night a kaiju appeared and their first mission started.[6] During the mission, dispatched in Ikaruga Platoon,[12] Iharu was left speechless by Leno's incredible fighting prowess and improvement.[13] After the Honju's death, a great number of Yoju rushed towards the Defense Force and while Iharu and Leno were facing them they encounter a strange disposal crew member.[14] As the crew member was revealed to be the kaiju who injured Kikoru, Leno and Iharu engaged in combat with him. Upon getting injured Iharu was asked by Leno to run away and call the cavalry.[15] As Iharu was running away the remorse of always being protected, from Mina Ashiro in his past and from Leno now, and not improving as Leno did get the best of him and, despite his injuries, came back to save Leno's life and aid him fighting the kaiju. As Leno was able to put the kaiju down the latter emerged from a barrage of corpses, ready to fight again.[16] Iharu was then incapacitated but tried his best to prevent the kaiju from killing Leno. As he realized that he had no chance to save him, Iharu prayed for his friend's life before Kaiju No. 8 appeared and saved Leno from the Humanoid Kaiju, who got decapitated with one fist, much to Iharu's shock.[8] He could only watch as the battle between the kaiju went on until the Defense Force arrived.[17]

    After waking up in the hospital two weeks later he and Leno were discharged and celebrated along with the other Corps members their first mission. During the party, he discussed the mission with his peers. As they were all discussing the mission he watched as Soshiro announced Kafka's promotion to Corps member of the Third Division of the Defense Force.[18]

    When Leno was selected to become the user of Numbers Weapon 6, crafted from Kaiju No. 6's corpse, Iharu witnessed his compatibility test.[24] One month later, he aided Leno and the rest of the Fourth Division in a test to measure Leno's ability with the suit.[25] During the battle Iharu was repeatedly saved by Leno and, after lamenting his inability to improve like his peers, he witnessed as Leno started abusing his power out of control[7]. In the climax, Leno fought while injuring his own body in order to beat the Honju and froze an entire area just to avoid getting external help. As Captain Jugo Ogata was ready to step in and declare Leno's failure, Iharu rushed towards his friend begging his captain to still give him a chance. Breaking through the ice, he reaced Leno and encouraged him to go on and fight.[26] After carrying Leno on his back to safety and preparing a plan, Iharu used his spiking released force to expose the kaiju's core to give Leno the opportunity to kill it.[2] After they managed to complete the mission, Iharu and Leno celebrated and were brought to the infirmatory.[27] Sometime later Iharu rang Kafka, after the latter had refused Leno's call, and expressed how much he was afraid of Kafka's kaiju form despite still considering him a precious ally.[28]

    Power & Abilities

    Overall Abilities: Iharu is a strong young officer within the Defense Force, easily proving to be one of the best rookies of his year. Before joining the Defense Force, he ranked number one in his class constantly, being the strongest of his peers.[7] In battle, Iharu is skilled and determinated enough to follow the likes of Leno Ichikawa and provide him support even against major threats like Kaiju No. 9. He was even likened to a division captain of Jugo Ogata's caliber, due to his innate abilities with his suit.[27] Powers

    High Unleashed Combat Power: Iharu was initially able to release 14% of his combat suit's power and later 20% after two months.[5][6] Iharu's current stable released force is 24%, allowing him to keep up with Leno and easily break big chunks of ice.[26] However, Iharu's released suit power reaches remarkable spikes when he's engaging an enemy, going from a mere 24% to a full 42% in seconds, even unpredictably fluctuating back and forth.[27] According to Captain Ogata, who even likened Iharu to himself, Iharu's released power is on par with Ichikawa and he has potential to become a great soldier.[27] Iharu is the third recorded case of Flash Adapter, caused by a unique brain structure that doesn't allow his released force to be maintained for long. Instead he has a rapid, explosive fighting style used to overwhelm his opponent. He was taught combat methods that force him into a short trance. According the Captain Ogata if he were to master said techniques the power generated from his ability to ramp up in an instant will likely surpass Leno Ichikawa. Iharu is now able to release 88% of the suit's power.     Isao Shinomiya (四しノの宮みや 功いさお, Shinomiya Isao) was the Director General of the Defense Force[5] (before being absorbed by Kaiju No. 9),[6] the late husband of Hikari Shinomiya[2] and the father of Kikoru Shinomiya.[7] He is also the former captain of the First Division.[8][9]

    Isao is a very tall and muscular middle-aged man with short blond hair, a moustache and beard, big wild green (yellow in the anime) eyes and thick, messy eyebrows that usually shows a serious look on his face.[5][10]

    Personality

    Isao is a very authoritative and serious man, being also very demanding towards his subordinates and his daughter Kikoru Shinomiya.[2] As the Director General of the Defense Force who has served many years in it’s ranks, he is a far-sighted man who gave his orders firmly in sight of future threats and is also not above using living kaiju as weapons to empower the Defense Force.[13]

    Isao's strong romantic relationship with his wife Hikari Shinomiya brought him to be very affected by her death and ever since then, he became cold and distant with Kikoru, demanding her to become the "perfect soldier" so that she wouldn't suffer the same fate as her mother.[2] His strictness wasn't limited to just his family alone as he acted the same way with his subordinates and his former student Gen Narumi.[8][14]

    However, despite his apparent cold and serious behavior, Isao showed a more caring side when he remembered Kikoru's words about Kafka Hibino and when he personally informed the latter about his decision to keep him alive, going against his high-ranked colleagues to give Kafka a chance to prove himself to them.[13] Until the end, his only concern was the sake of the next generations, fighting for it with all of his might to ensure a safer future to those after him, to the point of being willing to sacrifice himself like his wife did.[15] ADVERTISEMENT

    Overall Abilities: Isao was the Director General of the Defense Force and had absolute authority over the entire organization. In the past, he was known as the "strongest soldier" in the entire history of the Defense Force,[16] although Isao himself admitted that he had grown weak (due to old age) and his current strength was a mere shadow of it's former glory.[15] Despite this, he was still strong enough to fight on par with a berserk Kaiju No. 8[17][18] and nearly kill Kaiju No. 9,[15] two of the strongest kaiju's in the entire series.     Shield: While wearing Numbers Weapon 2, Isao was able to produce a shield that could protect him from powerful attacks. His mastery in martial arts allowed him to improve his own fighting style, which was passed down to other Defense Force officers.[22] He easily overwhelmed Kafka Hibino with powerful punches,[16] fought on par with Kaiju No. 8,[17] and was even capable of exchanging blows with Kaiju No. 9 with only one arm.[15] Isao had also mastered other forms of combat such as swordsmanship and sharpshooting, and even trained Gen Narumi.[8][14] Leadership skills: As the former Director General of the Defense Force, Isao had absolute authority over the entire organization.     Jugo seems to be a rather calm and peaceful individual, wishing to get along with his fellow division captains despite their hot-blooded and belligerent behaviours. He's not above drinking alcohol or plucking his nose hair when on duty.[2][5]

    Despite his laid-back behavior, Jugo knows the risks and perils of his job and tries his best to keep his subordinates safe.[5] Due to his attachment to Hikari Shinomiya and her subsequent death, Jugo always makes sure never to endanger another of his comrades if he can help it, still regretting his encouragement that brought Hikari to her demise.[4] ADVERTISEMENT

    In his youth, Jugo used trained alongside Hikari Shinomiya and was quite close to her with the two sharing some kind of rivalry.[1] When she had her compatibility test with Numbers Weapon 4 Jugo himself encouraged her before later regretting this decision ever since her death.[4]

    After the Raid at Tachikawa Base, Jugo welcomed Reno Ichikawa and Iharu Furuhashi into his division.

    After Isao Shinomiya's death at the hands of Kaiju No. 9, Jugo and the rest of the Fourth Division payed homage to the deceased director general during his funeral.[6]

    During the Anti-No. 9 Eastern Divisional Conference, Jugo and the other division captains heard the information Soshiro Hoshina obtained by Kaiju No. 10.[2] Later in the conference, it was decided that Reno Ichikawa, now serving in Ogata's division, would be the new candidate for Kaiju No. 6's suit.[7]

    Jugo spent some time reflecting on the idea with his subordinate Toko, before finally informing Leno of the decision taken in the conference. Despite the captain himself advicing Leno to turn the offer down, the Fourth Division still helped Leno through the process. When Leno fainted due to the power of the weapon, Jugo visited him in the infirmatory and advice him to give up again, but since Leno was still willing to try then Jugo offered him one month to become the perfect user of No. 6's weapon.[5] A month later, Jugo and the rest of the Fourth Division tested Leno's ability with Numbers Weapon 6 by having him defeat a pack of Mole Type 67 kaiju, with him managing to defeat them all.[3] However, as Leno kept drawing more power and push his body to the limit to defeat the Honju, Jugo realized the danger for Leno [8] and got ready to step in with Toko to neutralize the Honju himself, ready to declare Leno's attempt a failure. However, the two were stopped by Iharu Furuhashi's attempt to encourage Leno to keep fighting.[9] Allowing the two to keep going, Jugo witnessed as Furuhashi unleashed unstable spikes of released force, likening his ability to his own, and then watched and Iharu and Leno defeated the Honju once and for all,[10] bursting into tears while thinking about his youth and the new young prodigies he's training. Later, he phoned Third Division captain Mina Ashiro to report Iharu's and Leno's improvments, vowing to make them top-notch soldiers, following his duty as "survivor".[4]

    During the First Division's fight against Kaiju No. 9 and the Ant-type Kaiju, Juzo watched from the temporary base with Isao and Keiji Itami.[4] Then, when No. 9's true body manifested behind Isao to retrieve Kaiju No. 2's power,[5] Juzo and Keiji evacuated under Isao's order despite Juzo wanting to aid Isao against the kaiju.[3]

    Kaiju No. 1 was a massive muscular daikaiju with grey skin and multiple openings on its massive body revealing numerous pink eyes with cross-shaped pupils. The kaiju's head was similar to that of Kaiju No. 10 and No. 12, flat with sharp teeth tied by skin patches, four large dark eye socket and two bull-like horns on the side of the head.[3]

    As a Numbers Weapon, it takes the form of a gray armored combat suit equipped with a black jacket.[4] History

    Pseudo-Foresight: Kaiju No. 1's retina allowed it to see through other living things and pinpoint their weak spots, as well as giving it an enhanced vision. More importantly, this perspective is key to discerning the synaptic impulses that belong to the observed part, simulating a kind of combative precognition by being able to know in advance what an opponent is about to do.     Foresight: Despite Numbers Weapon 1 having the same power as the kaiju at its core, Gen Narumi developed an advanced form of foresight that Kaiju No. 1 never possessed.     Kaiju No. 11 had the shape of a stocky and muscular humanoid grey creature, with a large whale-like head and a big shark-like fin on top. It also lacked visible eyes and had spiky plates on its back, two smaller fins of its shoulders and elbows and a pointy long tail. Befitting its fish physiology, this kaiju had gills on his torso.[2] Like No. 9 previously, No. 11 occasionally showed small circular black eyes.[3] Personality

    Kaiju No. 11 appeared to be a very intuitive creature, being also quite confident on its abilities when in a favorable situation.[4]

    Due to possessing Isao Shinomiya's memories, when facing his former pupil Gen Narumi, No. 11 treated him with the same superiority of his former master. The kaiju constantly lectured and taunted Gen during their fight.[3] Plot

    At some point, this kaiju was created by Kaiju No. 9,[2] being given Isao Shinomiya's memories.[3]

    Kaiju No. 11 then appeared on a beach in Chigasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, where it sucked up and ate fish from the sea before leaving underwater without ever coming ashore.[2]

    The Second Wave Arc

    During the No. 9 induced cataclysms attacks, Kaiju No. 11 appeared in Sumida Ward to face off against First Division Captain Gen Narumi.[1] During their fight, No. 11 was pummeled by Narumi before using a water strike to land a clear punch on the Defense Force Captain, sending him flying. No. 11 then stated that while Gen could see his movements through the usage of Numbers Weapon 1, he could not read the water's movement, which No. 11 could control.[4] No. 11 later sensed the appearance of Kaiju No. 8, much to its surprise.[5] As its onslaught on Gen Narumi continued,[6] No. 11 managed to tank and counter all of the captain's attack. It then revealed that he knew about Kaiju No. 1's powers and Gen's fighting style because No. 11 possessed Isao Shinomiya's memories. After lecturing him, the kaiju then cornered Gen and taunted him for being a disappointed, before being distracted by Gen's faint and being slashed by him.[3] As Gen awakened his evolved powers from his Numbers Weapon, No. 11 was confused as no such instance was present in Isao's memories. Eventually, the kaiju was overwhelmed by Gen's newfound foresight and struck by his final attack.[7]

    Kaiju No. 12 looked almost identical to its prototype Kaiju No. 10. It was a large light-grey humanoid kaiju with a dark-scaled muscular body and a long tail. It had a squared head very similar to No. 10's, the main differences being two horns on the sides of the head, its red eye having two vertical openings and its mouth only sporting sharp teeth.[1] Personality

    Kaiju No. 12 was an apathetic and silent creature, creating a stark contrast with its loud and battle-hungry prototype/sibling, Kaiju No. 10. No. 12 was also very good at adapting mid-fight and coming up with countermeasures against its enemies. It is subtly depicted to enjoy battling with worthy adversaries and is also gracious in defeat as it is seen smiling at Soshiro after besting it in battle before dying. History

    At some point this kaiju was created by Kaiju No. 9, as the finished product of Kaiju No. 10.[2] Plot

    The Second Wave Arc

    During the No. 9 induced cataclysms attacks, Kaiju No. 12 appeared in the Chofu Airport area to face off against Third Division Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina.[1] During the battle, No. 12 was able to fight on equal grounds and eventually overpower Soshiro by turning its arms into blades.[3] No. 12 later sensed the appearance of Kaiju No. 8, much to its surprise.[4] As its battle with Soshiro continued, No. 12 managed to corner the vice-captain and break his swords.[2] As No. 12 continued, Soshiro grabbed a backup katana and switched to a different sword style, allowing him to chop off one of its hands.[5] Pummeled by Soshiro's new style, No. 12 still managed to endure all of the Vice-Captain attacks until it was able to adapt, spawning a blade of its own and copying Soshiro's single-blade style[6]. Using the new style, it was able to turn the tables again, cutting off the No. 10 suit's tail in a single slash.[7] After continuing its onslaught, No. 12 found itself facing a three-sword wielding Soshiro, who invented a new technique on the spot and manage to stab No. 12's core, with the help of No. 10's tail.[8] Even after its core was pierced, it regrew an arm and attempted to keep fighting, surprising an exhausted Hoshina. Its core breaks down before it can move further, though, and the Vice-Captain offers the kaiju his praise as it collapses and dies.[9]

    As one of the Identified Kaiju created by Kaiju No. 9, Kaiju No. 12 was an extremely powerful Daikaiju, with a Fortitude level of 9.0.[1] Kaiju No. 12 was created as the improved version of Kaiju No. 10,[5] who already was a powerful daikaiju on its own right, and according to Keiji Itami and Konomi Okonogi, it was highly possible that No. 12 was created specifically to combat and exterminate Third Division Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina.[3] Powers

    Master Swordsman: Kaiju No. 12 had displayed a high-level of skill in fighting with swords, making extreme close-quarters combat its specialty. No. 12's proficiency with blades was on par or greater than Soshiro Hoshina, the Defense Force's strongest close-quarters combatant.[6] Despite being at a disadvantage after Soshiro switched to a Single-Blade Form, No. 12 soon began adapting to his fighting style, replicating the same technique, taking full advantage of its regenerating arm, while shifting it into a sword. Adaptability: No. 12 had shown the ability to evolve and adapt mid-fight to better respond to its enemy's fighting style.     Out of all its sibling, No. 13 looked the most like its parent Kaiju No. 9. Its appearance was that of a very tall and pale humanoid kaiju, with grey skin, an angled head sporting two vertical cavities on the sides and circular flesh protuberances on the back of its head. This kaiju also lacked eyes and nose but possessed a mouth with jagged teeth.[2] Personality

    Unlike some of its siblings, this kaiju seemed to be unable to speak and completely apathetic towards its surroundings, with its only instinct being defeating its enemies as fast as possible.[3][4]

    The only sign of personality shown thus far was its competitive nature, seen when he raced with cars at high speeds[2] and when excited to fight Kaiju No. 8 upon his appearance.[5] Plot

    Kaiju No. 13 then appeared on the Tohoku expressway, Tochigi Prefecture, near the Kamikawachi service area, competing with cars by running at high-speeds for 12 kilometers before disappearing.[2]

    The Second Wave Arc

    During the No. 9 induced cataclysms attacks, Kaiju No. 13 appeared in Oizumi.[1] It was later targeted by the First Division platoon leaders.[6] During the fight, it managed to gain the upper hand on the First Division with no injuries, even almost killing Platoon Leader Tachibana.[3] When Platoon Leader Rin Shinonome fired at him with her machine gun, No. 13 tanked the bullets and punched her strong enough to destroy her weapon. Then, No. 13 was attacked by Rin with a freezing grenade and a rifle, only to quickly move next to her and punch her to the ground. As the kaiju was about to kill her, Rin was suddenly saved by Kafka Hibino, much to No. 13's surprise.[4] However, as Kafka transformed into Kaiju No. 8, No. 13 became very enthusiastic and eager to fight him, promptly enhancing his muscles by running on the spot. It then rushed towards Kafka at high speeds to deliver a powerful punch, only for No. 8 to block it and punch No. 13 into a wall instantly, effectively killing it.[5]

    During the No. 9 induced cataclysms attacks, Kaiju No. 14 appeared in Tachikawa.[1] It was later targeted by Third Division Captain Mina Ashiro.[3] Using its teleportation ability, No. 14 was able to avoid being targeted by Ashiro while blasting the city apart with energy beams and blocking barrages from lower-ranked soldiers using its force-field.[4] As Mina Ashiro took action in Tachikawa, No. 14 promptly attacked her. However, she managed to dodge and shoot back at the kaiju, much to its shock, eventually hitting No. 14.[5]

    The Last Wave Arc

    As Kaiju No. 14 was declared dead, its parent Kaiju No. 9 used a white version of No. 14 to forcefully open a portal through its corpse. Walking through No. 14's corpse, No. 9 manifested itself through a portal in front of Mina, ready to retrieve her incredible power for itself.[6]

    Kaiju No. 14 was given a monolithic appearance to give off a feeling of apocalypse and fear. Naoya Matsumoto also stated that the scene where No. 14 appears on the railway is based on the author's experience of watching the front view on the train as a child.[7]

    No. 15 presented a skinny and female-looking humanoid body, with its most notable features being large brains attached to it: three on its head and several around its waist. It also possessed long fingers, a lack of feet and a feature-less face with a large cavity in the middle.[2]

    In its human disguise, the kaiju looked extremely similar to Kikoru Shinomiya, with the only substantial difference between the two being black hair instead of Kikoru's blond and occasionally red eyes with black sclera. Also, in this form the kaiju wore a black school uniform for girls with a red tie.[3] Upon being created, No. 15 appeared identical to Kikoru in her childhood, with the same differences between the two persisiting.     Personality

    No. 15 firstly appeared as an innocuous kaiju, calmly scouting its surrounding without attacking or even engaging humans.[2] However, when attacking, the kaiju reveals its true nature as a cruel and cunning creature, not above taunting its victims.[3]

    The kaiju was very interested in Kikoru Shinomiya.[1] Even while facing her, No. 15 stayed in its Kikoru-like form and taunted her during the entire fight, calling her "Little Kikoru." Through its powers, No. 15 gave a demonstration of its sadistic nature by digging into Kikoru's subconscious and forcing her to relive her childhood trauma.[5]

    Kaiju No. 15 also resembled Kikoru in personality, being quite eccentric and arrogant. Possibly inheriting Kikoru's trauma, No. 15 had a desperate need to gain the approval of its father-figure Kaiju No. 9, in the same way Kikoru strove for her father's praise. No. 9's cold and distant personality, however, motivated Kaiju No. 15 to become more powerful through training, only enough to gain its affection, with killing Kikoru proving to be the ultimate challenge to achieve that. Kaiju No. 15's despair upon realizing it was just No. 9's pawn and that its love will never be reciprocated, caused a deep pain in its heart, desperately begging for its progenitor's affection even as it died.[4] ADVERTISEMENT

    Plot

    The Compatible User Arc

    At some point, this kaiju was created by Kaiju No. 9, after the latter had killed Isao Shinomiya.[4] Ever since being created, No. 15 seeked No. 9's love and affection like a human daughter would from her father. However, its emotions were used by No. 9 to manipulate No. 15 into getting stronger for the former's goal, being oblivious to affection and seeing its spawn as nothing but a pawn.[4]

    Kaiju No. 15 then appeared in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, at the scramble intersection of the Hachiko exit gate. There, it proceeded to observe its surroundings for three minutes and then leave.[2]

    Cataclysms Arc

    Three month later, the kaiju disguised itself as a human before attacking some bystanders in Kabukicho, Shinjuku.[3]

    The Second Wave Arc

    During the No. 9 induced cataclysms attacks, Kaiju No. 15 appeared in the National Diet area to face off against First Division Officer Kikoru Shinomiya.[1] Right after being recognized as a Numbered Kaiju and being given its Kaiju No. 15 codename, the latter quickly unleashed an attacks that eliminated the officers who were aiding Kikoru, much to her shock. As it morphed back to its human form, No. 15 mocked Kikoru, who then got ready to neutralize it.[6] Mocking Kikoru who announced No. 15's neutralization, the kaiju quickly attack her with multiple powerful blows, overwhelming her in strength and speed, eventually breaching through her Numbers Weapon's shield. Stating that Kikoru's axe isn't enough to kill it, Kaiju No. 15 then morphed its left arm into a giant axe to eliminate Kikoru.[7] However, Kikoru evaded the attack at the last and, while following her mother's ghost through the suit, she eventually managed to hit No. 15 once in the face, although slightly.[8] Eventually, Kikoru managed to reach her maximum Combat Power and expose No. 15's core, only for the kaiju to release a psychogenic attack on her opponent. Inside Kikoru's subconscious, Kaiju No. 15 questioned her on her reason to become stronger, only to make her reveal that all she ever wanted was her parents' praise. Upon this revelation, No. 15 taunted her saying that her parents were dead and she couldn't be praised by them ever again, with Kikoru falling in despair.[5] No. 15 later sensed the appearance of Kaiju No. 8, much to its surprise. Sensing its immense power after he defeated Kaiju No. 13, No. 15 acknowledged No. 8's superior power and proposed reuniting with its fellow kaiju to take him down, before noting Kikoru getting back up[9] As Kikoru found her resolve in proving to be a worthy Defense Force officer, No. 15 found itself pummeled by the young soldier, who eventually delivered a fatal blow.[10] In its last moments of life, No. 15 showed her psyche and memories to Kikoru, revealing how much it wanted to gain Kaiju No. 9's approval only for the latter to see it as a simple pawn. Despairing, Kaiju No. 15 was then killed by Kikoru.[4]

    No. 15 seems to the worst opponent for someone like Kikoru Shinomiya, using its mental powers to work around Kikoru's unparalleled strength and using her insecurities against her, as also noted by Defense Force Director General Keiji Itami.[11]

    Flight: Kaiju No. 15 has shown the ability to move itself freely in the air.[2] Immense Strength: No. 15 possesses superhuman amounts of physical strength, allowing it to fight on par with a officer of Kikoru Shinomiya's caliber, even while wearing a Numbers Weapon. Its blows can easily crack buildings and solid concrete with little to no effort.[7] Immense Speed: No. 15 showcased remarkable levels of speed even for a Daikaiju, quickly evading and catching up to Numbers Weapon 4, the fastest one in the Defense Force arsenal.[7] Shapeshifting: Like its parent, Kaiju No. 15 has showcased shapeshifting ablities. It can morphs parts of their body in order to turn them in weapons, assimilating nearby objects to transform its arm in a giant axe for example.[8] Regeneration: No. 15 displayed high levels of regenerations, being able to instantly heal its detached arm.[5] Metamorphosis: Kaiju No. 15 can morph into a human form and blend in with other humans.[3] Differently from No. 9, No. 15 doesn't have to consume a human in order to take their appearance, and it can only take the form of Kikoru Shinomiya, since the kaiju was modelled off her. Energy Beams: No. 15 attacks by releasing an extremely powerful and violent beam of energy from its mouth. Its attacks can scatter in different directions to take out various targets,[3] or release a singular beam powerful enough to instantly wipe out an entire Defense Force platoon and destroy a building in just one blow.[6] Psychological Manipulation: No. 15's most unique ability its affecting the psyche of its victims. By touching a target with a beam of energy, the kaiju can connect to the victim's brain and thus manipulate it in different ways. During its psychogenic attacks, the victim stops moving and in enthralled by the kaiju's powers.     History

    In 1972, Kaiju No. 2 attacked and nearly destroyed Sapporo, until it was defeated and killed by the Defense Force. Its corpse was then repurposed as the base for Isao Shinomiya's combat suit and gauntlets.[1] Plot

    Kaiju No. 8 Captured Arc

    When Kafka Hibino was transferred to the Ariake Maritime Base, Isao Shinomiya used Kaiju No. 2's power to face an uncontrollable Kaiju No. 8.[1]

    Kaiju Weapon Arc

    After Isao's fight against Kaiju No. 9, No. 9 managed to absorb Kaiju No. 2's power, offering it to "return to the kaiju side".[2]

    Powers & Abilities

    Overall Abilities: As an Identified Kaiju, Kaiju No. 2 was a tremendously powerful and destructive monster, able to pose a threat to a whole city. Its power made its weaponized corpse is so strong that only a man of Isao Shinomiya's caliber could handle its might. As matter of fact, Isao, while using No. 2's power, was able to easily and heavily injure Kafka Hibino in his kaiju form, gaining himself a power on par with that of a Daikaiju,[1] despite being well passed his prime. however, it cannot withstand Kaiju No. 8's power when the Mysterious Larva took over and managed to defeat it.     Immense Strength: As a giant-class Identified Kaiju, No. 2 had enough power to almost completely destroy a city.[1] Immense Durability: No. 2 boasted remarkable resistance among its fellow Daikaiju, as its neutralization was very long.[1] Sonic Attacks: Kaiju No. 2 used to expand the range of its attacks with powerful sonic blast.[4] Energy Attacks: Kaiju No. 2 has shown the ability to release highly destructive energy, similar to electricity, from its mouth.[5] The suit that was forged from its corpse is also able to release super high levels of electromagnetic energy.     Shield: While wearing Numbers Weapon 2, the user is able to produce a shield that can protect them from powerful attacks.[4] Sonic Attacks: Through Numbers Weapon 2, the user can access No. 2's sonic powers.     In life, Kaiju No. 4 was a large flying monster with a flat face sporting three eyes and sharp teeth. Its body was elongated and was similar to that of a centipede. It also had multiple sets of bug-like wings on its back.[3]

    Its current appearance as a Number Weapon is a light-colored scaly suit with two repulsors on each shoulder blade, one on each shoulder, one on each forearm, and a loincloth.[1] The suit can also spawn a set of bug-like wings, similar to No. 4's ones, on the back.[4] Personality

    Even as a Numbers Weapon, Kaiju No. 4 seems to vividly remember its past user Hikari Shinomiya, since her ghost is clearly visible to its current user Kikoru Shinomiya. The Kaiju also seems to be very observational and judgemental with Kikoru.[3] History

    Plot

    Cataclysms Arc

    Numbers Weapon 4 was given to Hikari Shinomiya's daughter, Kikoru Shinomiya by First Division Captain Gen Narumi.[5] During her training with him, Kikoru witnessed her mother's ghost for the first time with Gen revealing that the ghost is Kaiju No. 4's memories of Hikari.

    The Second Wave Arc

    Kikoru Shinomiya later took action during the various kaiju attacks using Numbers Weapon 4.[2] She also took on Kaiju No. 15 with Hikari Shinomiya's ghost appearing again during the fight.[3]

    Overall Abilities: As an Identified Kaiju, Kaiju No. 4 was an extremely powerful kaiju, enough for its neutralization to take a long time and have it earn an identification number. As a Kaiju

    Kaiju No. 6 was a massive dark-scaled kaiju shaped much like a theropod dinosaur, possessing short arms and large legs. Its head was elongated and equipped with a long maw with sharp teeth, while the top of its cranium had two long pointy horns on the sides. Kaiju No. 6 also possessed dorsal plates and four incredibly long tails, with their size dwarfing even its main body.[1]

    Its current appearance as a Numbers weapon is a dark blue combat suit with a beetle-like texture. The suit possesses various pipes and cables from which cold energy flows.[1] History

    Ten years ago, Kaiju No. 6 was at the center of various cataclysms which brought the death of 200 Defense Force officers and 3 captains, with Second Division Captain Hikari Shinomiya being the most notable victim.[3]

    Plot

    Kaiju No. 8 Captured Arc

    After his attempt to execute Kaiju No. 8, and his subsequent brutal fight with him, Isao Shinomiya would use Kaiju No. 6 as a topic to the argument of whether or not Kaiju No. 8 should be weaponized, since there is no guarantee that any Defense Force member would be compatible with the manufactured weapon and so it was probably in the Force's best interest that they keep Kafka alive for the time being.[3]

    The Compatible User Arc

    During the Anti-No. 9 Eastern Divisional Conference, the four divisions of the Defense Force discussed their plan to kill Kaiju No. 9 and, while talking about training the new recruits, the topic of Kaiju No. 6's weapon was brought up. Discussing a possible compatible user for it, Third Division Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina proposed young talent Reno Ichikawa as a potential candidate.[2] After this decision, Reno tested the Numbers weapon aided by the Fourth Division, and he successfully used it in battle against a Mole Type 67 kaiju one month later, officially becoming the weapon's wielder in the Force.[4]

    Overall Abilities: Kaiju No. 6 was described as an extremely powerful and dangerous Identified Kaiju, even earning the title The King of Kaiju.[2] It had a fortitude level of 9.6 when it was alive and managed to guide an unparalleled cataclysm alongside multiple Honju-level kaiju.[1] Such cataclysm is still recognized as one of the most catastrophic ever, which even brought about the death of Hikari Shinomiya, the then-Second Division Captain. With its attack unleashing a snowstorm in Odawara, its name is still recognized as a "Symbol of Despair" to people. After being converted into a weapon, the Defense Force couldn't find anyone to match its power and it was always seen as the most powerful and dangerous weapon in the Defense Forces arsenal. Even as a Numbers weapon, its power is still strong enough to knock down a talented young officer like Reno Ichikawa.[3][1]

    Cryokinesis: Kaiju No. 6 seems to have had ice-related powers. Its mere presence on the battlefield caused a giant snowstorm and the suit that was forged from its corpse is able to emit cold energy.[5]

    At some point, as he was driving, he came across a strange man standing in the middle of the road. As he approached the man, Kanji observed as the man turned into a kaiju and proceeded to kill and consume him. Then the kaiju proceeded to take his appearance and identity as his new disguise while keeping a low profile.

    Etymology

    Kanji's surname Nagamine contains the kanji for "long, chief, boss" (長, naga) and "peak, summit" (嶺, mine).

    Keiji seems to be a serious and rational man who is well-informed about kaiju and the history of the Defense Force and he seems to highly respect Isao Shinomiya, both for his position and his power.[3]

    Keiji was very loyal and close to his superior Isao, being a dependable Deputy Director and calmly filling in what Isao lacked.[1] He trusted Isao to the point of letting him fight Kaiju No. 9 alone, firmly believing in his superior.[5] History

    Despite his initial dislike of being in a position above others, Keiji was strongly requested by Isao Shinomiya himself to become the Deputy Director of the Defense Force.[1]

    In the past, Keiji discussed with Isao about a young Gen Narumi with Keiji theorizing that Gen could surpass Isao despite the former's discorderly conduct.[6] ADVERTISEMENT

    Plot

    Kaiju No. 8 Captured Arc

    When Kafka Hibino of the Third Division was revealed to be Kaiju No. 8, Keiji suggested disposing of him and convert him into weaponry, before Director General Isao Shinomiya himself ordered to have Kafka secured at the Ariake Maritime Base.[7] Then, when Kafka arrived, Keiji watched with Kikoru Shinomiya as Isao attacked Kafka, confused at the fact that Isao didn't kill Kafka immediately.[8]

    Kaiju Weapon Arc

    Keiji, Isao Shinomiya and Juzo Nogizaka watched the First Division's fight against Kaiju No. 9 and the Ant-type Kaiju from the temporary base.[9] When Kaiju No. 9's true body appeared there too to collect Kaiju No. 2's power from Isao, Keiji stopped Juzo from joining Isao in fighting the kaiju, following the Director General's orders and evacuating the place.[5]

    After their fight and Isao's death, Keiji and Juzo attended Isao's funeral with the rest of the First Division at Ariake Maritime Base.[10]

    The Compatible User Arc

    During the Anti-No. 9 Eastern Divisional Conference, Keiji took part as the newly appointed Director General of the Defense Force, giving the word to Third Division Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina to reveal the insight he was given from Kaiju No. 10 on No. 9 and his plans.[4]

    Some time later, Keiji and other Defense Force high-ranking members discussed the unsolved kaiju cases than unfolded in the last month, preparing a plan to face the new No. 9-induced cataclysm.[11]

    Cataclysms Arc

    During the Cataclysms, Keiji watched from afar as the Defense Force faced the multiple kaiju which appeared in Japan. From the Ariake Maritime Base, Keiji then watched as Kikoru Shinomiya was dispatched with her new weapon Numbers Weapon 4.[12]

    Upon watching her fighting the kaiju at the National Diet Building, Keiji realized how Kikoru was just like both of her parents, not just her mother Hikari Shinomiya.[13]

    The Second Wave Arc

    As the new quintet of Identified Kaiju appeared, Keiji realized there were no reinforcements to send on the battlefield, even though fighting kaiju that powerful was a job suitable for a platoon of captain-level officers and not a first-year rookie like Kikoru.[14] While following Kikoru Shinomiya's fight with Kaiju No. 15, Keiji was concerned before seeing Kikoru improving mid-fight and theorizing she was seeing her mother Hikari Shinomiya's Ghost through the memories of Numbers Weapon 4.[15] Later, as No. 15 unleashed its mental powers to incapacitate Kikoru,[16] Keiji started to wonder why these new Identified Kaiju were so accurate in their attacks, ultimately stating that they were created with the purpose of targeting specific members of the Defense Force and eliminate them.[17]

    The Last Wave Arc

    After Mina Ashiro managed to eliminate Kaiju No. 14, thus ending the Second Wave, Keiji listened in shock as Kaiju No. 9 made a speech through Defense Force comms, stating the war was its win.[18] Then, Keiji's reacted in shock as Akira Kurusu announced that No. 9 appeared in Tachikawa Base.[19]

    Konomi is a determined and professional person. She doesn't seem to approve of Soshiro's unprofessional remarks and blurts of laughter, caring deeply for him and for everyone else when they are in danger.[2] In return, she's held in high regard by Soshiro.[1]

    While working, Konomi displays a professional and serious behavior, quickly getting a grasp of the current situation to offer support to her comrades. She also displayed remarkable levels of intuition and analytical skills. Plot

    The Man Who Became a Kaiju Arc

    During the aptitude test of the examination, she checked the vitals of the examinees as they were fighting, along with Soshiro Hoshina.[2] Later, an unknown humanoid kaiju resurrected one of the test Kaiju and elevated its strength, injuring Kikoru in the process as she attempted to hold the line and allow the other examinees to escape with their lives. Through the sensors, Konomi determined that the revived Honju has a fortitude of 6.4 which was something that it never was from prior to being captured by the Defense Force. She was then left at the surveillance feeds by Ashiro and Hoshina, who made their way to the training grounds with armed gear.[3]

    Soon, Konomi detected an energy surge somewhere near the 6.4 Honju; separate from thereof and evidently exceeding so. Suspecting that this is coming from a newer and even stronger organism, she reports her findings to the Third Division's Captain and Vice-Captain, who were still on their way to the battlefield. Hoshina implores her for details. However, visual confirmation was rendered impossible due to the dust cloud and debris clouding that area. Sensors, on the other hand, reveal that this new source has a fortitude of over 9.8.[4]

    Sagamihara Neutralization Operation at Daybreak Arc

    Months later she helped the Defense Force fight off a Fungal-type kaiju by informing everyone of Kafka Hibino's discovery on the Yoju's core location.[5] Later she accompanied Vice-Captain Hoshina to ask people working at Professional Kaiju Cleaning Company Monster Sweeper Inc. about their new worker Takamichi Hotaka.[6]

    Raid on Tachikawa Base Arc

    At the beginning of the raid, Konomi intercepted the multiple kaiju who arrived on the scene and dispatched Soshiro's orders to the rest of the Defense Force.[7] She then helped Soshiro in his fight against a new humanoid kaiju,[8] and later assisted both him, Captain Mina Ashiro and Kikoru Shinomiya finishing off the kaiju.[9] After the kaiju was seemingly defeated, a massive yoju-bomb fell from the sky before Okonogi could sense the presence of a kaiju whose fortitude number was 9.8. Having already seen those stats, she informed everyone that Kaiju No. 8 appeared on the scene.[10]

    Cataclysms Arc

    When the Third Division took action during the cataclysms, Konomi monitored and followed Vice-Captain Soshiro when he fought wearing Numbers Weapon 10, containing the conscience of Kaiju No. 10, much to Konomi's concern.[11]

    The Second Wave Arc

    After Soshiro's mission in Chofu Airport, Konomi monitored him during his fight with Kaiju No. 12, being utterly shocked at the fact that the kaiju was putting Soshiro on the defensive. She then theorized that the kaiju was created exactly to defeat Soshiro, with Keiji confirming her thoughts.[12] As she kept following Soshiro's fight with No. 12, Konomi then witnessed as her Vice-Captain unleashed 100% of Numbers Weapon 10's combat power.[13]

    Masahide is a loud and gentle man with, apparently, no problem in telling the truth even if it means to hurt someone.[1] He seems to get easily-irritated when his comrades start to lose confidence in difficult situations, holding great trust towards the Defense Force.[3]

    Masahide also hides a deeply selfless side, quickly helping other bystanders during a kaiju attack and willing to sacrifice his life to save that of his daughter Chieko Tokuda.[4]

Then, he and the rest of his squad proceeded with the disposal of the kaiju's corpse, with his squad teaming up with Iida Cleaners to strip the kaiju's arms.[1] Later after that, Leno Ichikawa joined Monster Sweeper Inc. as a part-timer with Masahide introducingd him to Kafka Hibino. He and his team then disposed of a kaiju with Leno and Kafka before they two were attacked by another kaiju after work.[1]

    At some point, a strange guy joined Monster Sweeper Inc. with nobody knowing he was secretly a shape-shifting kaiju.[5]

    Sagamihara Neutralization Operation at Daybreak Arc

    Months later, after Kafka Hibino and Leno Ichikawa became members of the Defense Force, Masahide and his colleagues followed up the battle against an enormous Fungal-type kaiju and the Third Division. Then, upon watching the situation from a distance, they wondered where the newbie went.[6]

    Later that day, they were visited by Third Division Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina and Konomi Okonogi to discuss their newbie Takamichi Hotaka and his strange behavior.[7]

    Kaiju Weapon Arc

    In the aftermath of the fight between the First Division and the Ant-type kaiju guided by Kaiju No. 9 in Shinagawa, Masahide and the rest of the guys at Monster Sweeper Inc. were sent to dispose of the dead Ant kaiju. As they were cutting the corpses, Masahide reprimanded his comrades for losing confidence after Defense Force Director General Isao Shinomiya's death and the evacuation outside the country due to Kaiju No. 9, believing that the Defense Force and Kafka would defeat No. 9 so Monster Sweeper Inc. could dispose of its body.[3]

    Cataclysms Arc

    Masahide was attending his daughter Chieko Tokuda's wedding when a kaiju attacked the venue. As the kaiju was about to devour Chieko, Masahide did his best to distrct the kaiju. Failing to do so, he witnessed as Captain Gen Narumi quickly took action to save Chieko and slay the kaiju.[4]

    The Man Who Became a Kaiju Arc

    Mizoguchi directed the disposal operation on Philinosoma after it was neutralized by the Third Division. He requested Kafka to work in the intestines, and personally dragged him to work when he tried to refuse. The next day, Mizoguchi dispatched all of his workers in different sectors, with Kakfa being newly assigned to the intestines alongside Reno Ichikawa, who was on his first day of work. Kafka's determination in getting the job done quickly made Mizoguchi realize that Kafka would've made a good Defense Force officer, although he realized it was convenient for him to have him as a Kaiju disposer.[1]

    Three months later, while the others were discussing the appearance of Kaiju No. 8, Mizoguchi approached Reno to inform him that he received letters from the Defense Force for him and Kafka.[2]

    This Kaiju is a small gecko-like creature with four insect-like wings on its back, four-fingered limbs, a long pointy tail and an elongated head. Its face sports large round eyes and a circular mouth with sharp teeth.[2]

    From within Kafka's mind, only the Kaiju's head appears [3] and it can also look larger the greater its influence on Kafka is.[4]

    Despite still having a rather simple behavior like regular Kaiju, this one seems slightly smarter and more organized than others. As seen when he targeted Kafka Hibino, it appears that this Kaiju looks for specific prey rather than attacking any human around.[2] It also appears to act as a parasite, requiring a host to fully function.[3] However, despite this, it appears completely passive and makes no attempt to assert control except when Kafka is in danger of being killed by Isao Shinomiya and refusing to fight back. Most notably, it appears to be hostile only towards other Kaiju as it demands Kafka to "kill Kaiju" after Isao activated No. 2.

    It was revealed that this Kaiju is an amalgamation made from the fallen samurai and warriors during their battle against the Daikaiju of the Meireki-Era, which its hostility against kaiju was merged from the slayers' hatred and regrets after being killed. ADVERTISEMENT

    History

    In the ancient era, the warriors and samurai from that period wielded weapons and armor made of Kaiju, lacking the scientific expertise to put them to use, even bonding with them using parasitic Kaiju. However, these methods barely drew out much power and took a huge toll on them. After supposedly defeating the Kaiju revealed to be The Daikaiju of the Meireki Era, it slaughtered the men including Soshiro Hoshina's ancestor. Falling into a chasm, the deceased men's collective anger and regrets gathered around a single dying individual with a resemblance to Kafka whose heart converted into a core afterward resulting in the creation of the larva.[5][6]

    After its birth, the Mysterious Larva retreated deep into the "dragon veins" forming a core out of a single dying samurai's heart combined with the consciousnesses of the other dying soldiers, where it seemingly waited until it found a "suitable host". Plot

    The Man Who Became a Kaiju Arc

    After Kafka Hibino and Reno Ichikawa were saved by the Third Division during a work day, this Kaiju appeared in front of Kafka in his hospital room at Yokohama Minami General Hospital. There, the Kaiju openly announced that it had "found him" and proceeded to enter Kafka's mouth, turning him into Kaiju No. 8.[2]

    Kaiju No. 8 Captured Arc

    After Director General Isao Shinomiya activated Weapons No. 2, Kafka realized his body was having the same reaction to him as it would another Daikaiju before noticing the aura Isao was giving off. As Isao was about to land a killing blow on a defenseless Kafka, who had been refusing to fully transform and fight back, the Larva took control of the body and violently attacked the Director General, much to Kafka's shock and horror. Within his mind, Kafka sees the Larva emerge and urge him to "kill Kaiju".[3]

    At the last minute, Kafka managed to regain control of his body and strike his core before he could kill Isao.[7]

    Kaiju Weapon Arc

    During the First Division fight against the Ant-types and Kaiju No. 9 in Shinagawa, an image of the Larva appeared in Kafka's mind together with visions of slaughtering his comrades as No. 8. It was then Kafka then realized that it was fear of hurting his friends that is preventing him from transforming. With Kikoru's assurance that his comrades are all capable of stopping him if needed, Kafka overcame that fear and was able to transform.[4]

    Power-wise, the Mysterious Larva seems to be one of the weakest Kaiju in the series, lacking any offensive or defensive capabilities to aid it in combat. Instead, it is a parasite that invades the body of an "ideal host", transforming them into a Daikaiju of immense power, abilities, and requirements of being "a Kaiju that kills Kaiju", showcasing it possessing tremendous latent power, but it is required to infect a suitable host to unleash it.

    Flight: Possessing wings, this Kaiju can fly.[2] Kaiju Localization Sense: Just like its host, it can sense any Kaiju within its range, especially when it's related to the Daikaiju of the Meireki Era. Parasitic Nature: This Kaiju can infect other life forms' bodies and effectively change their biology, influencing them physically and mentally, in return granting them immense power. Induced Metamorphosis: This Kaiju can morph their appearance and physical attributes after entering their host's body.[2] Evolution: If this Kaiju and its host finally deepened their connection, they will achieved a secondary metamorphosis of shedding its scales, and transformed into a new form that made him neither a Kaiju or human.     Rin is a short, beautiful young woman of a slim build, sporting medium length black hair with dyed cyan ends that reach her neck, with bangs on the left side of her face.     Rin is a serious woman who follows Captain Gen Narumi's order without question, despite letting her guard down sometimes. She is a calm individual who faces things correctly, still managing to have fun while doing so.[3] Rin also seem to take a liking in brave people.[1][3] Her brave and rigid behavior, however, is sometimes a shield to hide her deep emotions of joy and excitement. She also seems to secretly cultivate her physical appearance and beauty, believing herself to be extremely pretty and taking great pride in her gorgeous looks.

    Behind her strong and menacing demeanor, Rin hides a huge admiration for Gen Narumi's strength, feeling these emotions ever since her first battle with him in the First Division. During the years, the desire to be acknowledged by him brought Rin to strive to become stronger and more beautiful, just to impress Narumi. To this day, she holds dear the memory of when Gen promoted her to Platoon Leader, and still struggles prove her worth and follow Gen's footsteps.[4] In fact, Rin's hidden closeness and deep link to her division comrades even pushes her to fight with her life on the line to fulfill her duty.

    History

    After Rin joined the First Division as an officer, she had her first mission fighting alongside Captain Gen Narumi, with his power striking a feeling of admiration within Rin. During her days as officer, Rin wished to gain her captain's attention, pushing herself to train to become stronger and also try to appear even more beautiful.[4]

    At some point, Rin was appointed Platoon Leader by Gen, much to her immense joy.[4] Plot

    Rin took action with the rest of the First Division in Shinagawa when Ant-type kaiju emerged from the ground.[2] As Captain Narumi ordered her to grant support to Kikoru Shinomiya, Rin was twice saved from the latter due to her distraction. Irritated by Kikoru's skills, Rin approached her and declared that they would "get along just fine".[1] After the mission, Rin was present at Director General Isao Shinomiya's funeral.[6]

    After that day, she kept training with Kikoru in order for the latter to surpass Rin and improve her skills.[6]

    Cataclysms Arc

    During the new No. 9-induced cataclysms, Rin and the rest of the First Division took action. Her platoon was dispatched in Oizumi, facing six Supergiant class Kaiju. Rin then was requested by Kafka Hibino to let him fight the giant monsters, but refused due to the possibility of Kaiju No. 9 individuating Kafka after his transformation. Then, both of them witnessed as Third Division Captain Mina Ashiro killed two Daikaiju while shooting from Tachikawa with her new Anti-Giant-Class Kaiju Rail Gun.[7]

    The Second Wave Arc

    After the appearance of Kaiju No. 13 in Oizumi,[8] Rin and Tachibana targeted it.[9] However, at the end of the fight, Rin stood powerless as No. 13 defeated most of the First Division main force and Tachibana by the throat.[10] In a last attempt to kill the kaiju, upon remembering her first mission with her captain, Rin ordered Tachibana to move as he rapid fired on No. 13. However, the kaiju's superior resistance allowed it to withstand the bullets and punch Rin, destroying her machine gun. Yet, she stood up more determined than ever, using a freezing bomb and a rifle to continue pummeling the kaiju hoping that Narumi would show up to defeat it, only for No. 13 to move behind her and punch her to the ground again. As Rin accepted that all she wanted was to follow Narumi's footsteps, No. 13 punched again to finish her. However, she was saved at the last minute by Kafka Hibino,[4] who despite Rin's order decided to transform and face No. 13.[11] As No. 13 powered up to defeat No. 8, the former's Fortitude level becoming 9.2, Rin shouted at Kafka to run away, beforing witnessing Kaiju No. 8's monstruous power as he sent No. 13 flying with one punch.[11]

    Overall Abilities: As a Platoon Leader of the First Division, Rin is powerful enough to neutralize several kaiju single-handedly. Her battle prowess, due to year of training, was even recognized by a strong officer and rising star of Kikoru's caliber.     Soichiro seems to be a rather courageous and quick-thinking individual.[3] As a child, we was very confident of his abilities, to the point of mocking of Soshiro when he sparred with him.[4] However, Soichiro only insulted his younger brother because he was intimidated by Soshiro's potential.[5]

    Though he's no longer close with his brother, Soichiro outgrew his fear and can proudly admit that his brother is the greatest swordsman in their clan's entire history.     Ever since his childhood, Soichiro has shown remarkable fighting abilities to his relatives during training. He refused to congratulate him over the radio, feeling guilty about teasing his brother so much as a child that their relationship broke down completely. Soichiro admitted that he knew even then that Soshiro would surpass him and taunted him to discourage him, only for it to backfire. The Sixth Division then received word of a Daikaiju signature appearing, and he lead his men to engage.[5]

    Overall Abilities: Soichiro is the captain of the Sixth Division of the Defense Force and a powerful combatant.     Appearance

    Soshiro's father is an imposing athletic middle-aged man with narrow eyes, slicked back black hair and a bushy beard.[1]

    He usually wears swordsmanship robes, befitting his role as swordsman and instructor.[1] As a Defense Force officer he wore the standard combat suit given to officers. Personality

    He appears as a serious and rational individual, taking swordsmanship very seriously. For this reason, he retired from the Defense Force[2] and, after this, didn't have a problem to tell his son Soshiro to give up on joining the Force himself when he was a little kid.[1] He personally believes that the era of blades is over, and that an officer who lacks skills with firearms won't go far in the Defense Force.[2] History

    At some point he married and had two sons, Soichiro and Soshiro.

    Before or after that, he joined the Defense Force and rose up to the rank of Platoon Leader, after defeating multitudes of Kaiju with his top-notch sword skills. However, after a certain neutralization operation, he decided to retire and kept working as a swordsmanship instructor.[2]

    After his retirement, a young Soshiro approached his father telling him he wanted to join the Defense Force. However, with a melancholy expression, his father told Soshiro that he should give up on joining the ranks, as his ability with the sword wouldn't make up for his inadeguacy with firearms in modern times, despite still acknowledging Soshiro's sword-play.[1] In spite of this, Soichiro has always been praised by his father, for his exceptional ability with blades, firearms and martial arts alike. His father even considered him "The Hoshina Family's Ultimate Incarnation". These events stroke in a young Soshiro a sense of inferiority towards his older brother and any other Defense Force officer.[1] Plot

    Raid on Tachikawa Base Arc

    While fighting a giant-sized Kaiju No. 10, Soshiro remembered his father's words and unleashed his newlyfound resolve in defeating the Daikaiju, to prove that being a member of the Third Division was the most important thing in his life.[1]

    Overall Abilities: Soichiro and Soshiro's father is renowned by his sons as a top-notch swordsman. As a Defense Force officer, he managed to rise up to the rank of Platoon Leader and slay numerous Kaiju in his prime.[2] Abilities

    Master Swordsman: Coming from the Hoshina Family of famous swordsmen, and having taught his sons and many others that art, this man is implied to be a masterful swordsman on his own, successfully using his abilities in combat against many Kaiju. Teaching Skills: As a well-known instructor, it's implied that Soshiro's father has considerably good teaching skills. Equipment

    Tachibana is a slender lanky man with long black hair and big eyes with no eyebrows. His hair are voluminous and messy, styled into a small ponytail and shaved at the sides, while also sporting a lighter dyed chunk in the middle. Tachibana also has a big horizontal scar on his right forehead.[2] He wears two circular earrings on each ear.[4] When he was an officer, his hair was completely black.[1]

    In battle he wears the usual combat suit of the Defense Force.[3]

    Tachibana seems to be a quite serious individual, despite being oftenly surprised in the battle field. He also seems to get irritated quite easily. He shares a close relatioship with fellow First Division Platoon Leader Rin Shinonome.[1]

    History

    Ever since joining the First Division, Tachibana trained with fellow officer Rin Shinonome and witnessed her countless attempts to become stronger and more beautiful in order to impress Captain Narumi.[1]

    At some point, Tachibana was promoted to Platoon Leader. Plot

    Kaiju Weapon Arc

    Tachibana took action with the rest of the First Division in Shinagawa when Ant-type kaiju emerged from the ground.[2] After the mission, Tachibana was present at Director General Isao Shinomiya's funeral.[6]

    Cataclysms Arc

    During the new No. 9-induced cataclysms, Tachibana and the rest of the First Division took action. Her platoon was dispatched in Oizumi, facing six Supergiant class Kaiju. Then, Tachibana and Rin witnessed as Third Division Captain Mina Ashiro killed two Daikaiju while shooting from Tachikawa with her new Anti-Giant-Class Kaiju Rail Gun.[7]

    The Second Wave Arc

    After the appearance of Kaiju No. 13 in Oizumi,[8] Tachibana and Rin targeted it.[9] However, at the end of the fight, Rin stood powerless as No. 13 defeated most of the First Division main force and held the Tachibana by the throat,[10] fracturing his lower mandible and C2 vertebra. Rin then retaliated against the kaiju, shooting at it as Tachibana escaped its grip, although to no avail.[1]

    Overall Abilities: As a Defense Force First Division Platoon Leader, Tachibana is a powerful and skilled soldier, with authority over lower-ranking officers and enough power to take on strong Kaiju. According to his captain Gen Narumi, Tachibana is powerful enough to be promoted to Captain in the future.[11] Equipment

    Respirator Mask: Tachibana wears a respirator mask in combat.[3]
