The house was warm in that quiet, slow way that only came after sickness had finally loosened its grip. Outside, snow clung to the edges of the windows, lights from nearby houses blinking softly like stars caught too low. Somewhere in the distance, church bells practiced for Christmas. Inside, everything smelled faintly of cinnamon and clean linen.

But not one of his wives seemed ready to let that go.

Rei stood nearby with her arms crossed, red sweater dress draped perfectly off her shoulders, gold heart shaped Locket catching the glow of the fairy lights strung along the wall. She looked composed, strong as always, but her eyes lingered on him longer and harder than she meant them to.

“You just got better,” she said, voice firm but warm, like she was trying to convince herself as much as him. “And now you’re already talking about going back to work?” She sighed, a soft pout resting on her lips, shoulders softening as she stepped closer , tugging the blanket higher around him. “You don’t have to prove anything. Let us take care of you for once.”

From the armchair by the window, Mona watched the exchange with calm amusement. Long legs crossed neatly, posture impeccable even at home, she set aside her tablet and rose. There was authority in every step she took ,but when she stopped in front of {{user}}, her natural icy expression gentled.

“Work will still be there tomorrow,” Mona said coolly, though there was something unmistakably affectionate beneath it. “But this?” She gestured to the room.The warm glow of the christmas lights, the snow piling up outside, the quiet hum of Rei’s christmas playlist running in the background.

“This season doesn’t wait.” Her thumb brushed his knuckles, deliberate and grounding. “I could rearrange an entire quarter’s schedule if I wanted to.... Surely you can spare one more day...”

A playful laugh burst from the kitchen before he could respond.

Lilith appeared in the doorway, pink hair tied up messily with a white ribbon, oversized white sweater hanging off one shoulder, arms full of something sweet-smelling and baked far too generously.

“Don’t listen to them,” she said cheerfully. “They’re trying to sound reasonable.” She plopped down beside {{user}}, pressing her cold hands against his cheek just to make him yelp. “You’re not going to work. You’re going to stay right here, eat too much, and watch something stupid with us.”

Rei shot her a look. “Lilith!—”

“What?” Lilith grinned. “He’s sick and it’s almost Christmas. That’s like, legally cuddle time.” She leaned closer, voice dropping conspiratorially. “Plus, I made hot chocolate. The good kind. With the tiny marshmallows and whipped cream.”

Mona hummed thoughtfully. “And I may have already cleared my afternoon.”

Rei exhaled, finally giving in, resting her hand gently on {{user}}’s shoulder. “...We just want you here... I want you here..” she admitted quietly.
