- #1Spike Spiegel
Keys: Spike, Spiegel
Age 27 Occupation: bounty hunter
Spike Spiegel (スパイク・スピーゲル, Supaiku Supīgeru?) is a bounty hunter on the spaceship Bebop and travels through space with his crew. Before becoming a bounty hunter, Spike was a member of the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate. Spike displays many talents and abilities, including being skilled in hand-to-hand combat and martial-arts fighting.
Spike is tall and lean in appearance; he has dark green hair and brown eyes, one of which is later revealed to be artificial and lighter than the other. Spike himself may not have conscious recollection of the procedure since he claims to have lost his natural eye in an "accident".
Spike is usually dressed in a blue leisure suit, with a yellow shirt and Lupin III-inspired boots. He also occasionally wears a long brown trench coat. He's often seen with a cigarette between his lips, even if it's raining or there's clearly a 'No Smoking' sign where he is sitting, standing, or passing through. Spike's constant smoking is an homage to Lupin III, as Lupin's partner, Jigen, smokes cigarettes that are usually in very poor condition, similar to Spike.
Spike is a nonchalant, indifferent, and lazy character. He passes the vast majority of his time on the Bebop lounging, watching TV, or sleeping. On a few rare occasions, he is also seen practicing Jeet Kune Do, a martial arts practice he's very skilled in, being among other things passionate about Bruce Lee and his philosophies (for example, he follows Lee's "water" analogy for his style of fighting). He is a hardened smoker, shown with a cigarette in his mouth in practically every shot (the poor conditions in the cigarettes that are depicted recall those of Daisuke Jigen.) Although he rarely acknowledges it, Spike has very little patience. He repeatedly states he hates dogs, children, and women with attitudes, and is anything but happy when each one of the three joins the Bebop. On the other hand, as the series progressed, he warmed up to Edward, Ein, and Faye, all three of which fall in the category of the three things he particularly hates. He also claims to dislike cats. Spike is rarely seen excited about something and, even less frequently, says he likes something.
He usually behaves phlegmatically and walks slouching almost as if he is sleepwalking.
Spike was partnered with Vicious in the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate criminal organization, and the two garnered a reputation as the Syndicate's strongest fighters. But all that changed after Spike started a romantic affair with Vicious' girlfriend Julia, causing the two to become bitter enemies. After finding happiness outside violence, Spike tried to leave the Syndicate, and was then forced to fake his own death and separate from Julia in order to leave. After Spike fakes his death to escape the Syndicate, Julia never arrives to rendezvous with him — instead she goes into hiding to avoid betraying him or being killed herself.
- #2Jet Black
Keys: Black, Jet
Occupation Bounty hunter
Age 36
Jet Black (ジェット・ブラック, Jetto Burakku?), also known as "Black Dog" (ブラックドッグ, Burakku Doggu) is an officer of the ISSP and later bounty hunter. He partnered with Fad until losing his arm in the mid-2060s. He then captained the Bebop and led a bounty-hunting crew including himself, Spike Spiegel, Faye Valentine, and Edward.
Jet possesses a tall, broad, and muscular appearance. He is balding and only the sides and back of his head have hair. His sideburns continue down his cheeks to form a beard, giving him a slight resemblance to Daisuke Jigen. This is compliments Spike's tall, lanky body that gives him a slight resemblance to Lupin III and Vicious' wild, untamed hair. Furthermore, his love for wielding the Katana resembles Goemon Ishikawa. His left arm is a synthetic, robotic limb that seems to heighten his strength. His original limb was lost when he was ambushed by a syndicate assassin and his crooked cop partner. The metallic piece under his right eye has no known purpose, but it is not likely a cosmetic choice.
He wears a flight suit most of the time but has been known to dress up for trips to a nightclub or casino. The scar on his face may imply that he has been in some fights as a cop and bounty hunter. The scar is directly over his eye, but the eye itself is apparently unharmed. Personality
Jet, as the senior member of the Bebop, is presented as mature, wise, and austere. He often gives wise advice to his companions and always shows great patience for their over-the-top attitudes. In particular, he's very patient with Spike. On the other hand, due to Spike's excessive exuberance when chasing after bounties, often prevents them from collecting the total reward due to refunds caused by damage. Although everyone on the Bebop considers him kind of a father figure, a situation proved by his occasional scolding for some of his companions' attitudes and him being the ship's cook; Jet proves to be considerably offended by this association as it makes him look older than he actually is.
Although he may look gruff and sometimes has rude attitudes; Jet is basically a good-hearted, caring, and thoughtful man who, while hiding his feelings
Biography
Early life
Jet Black was born on December 3rd, 2035, on Ganymede. He developed a love of blues through his mother and would often get advice from his grandmother as well as life lessons from his father.
In the ISSP
Growing up with a strong moral compass, Jet enlisted in the Inter-Solar System Police (ISSP) and soon became an investigator. Due to his stubbornness while chasing criminals, he earned the nickname "Black Dog"; the dog that bites its prey and never lets go. He would befriend fellow officers Bob and Donnelly.
Despite the rigours of his work, Jet carried on a relationship with a woman named Alisa, whose proximity gave him the strength to keep going. One evening, however, he returned home to find Alisa gone, having left him only a note that said "farewell" and a pocket watch. Jet, torn by grief, questioned at length the reason for why Alisa had left him and promised that if the clock stopped before Alisa returned he would leave Ganymede forever.
Jet received a generally good reputation as a bounty hunter. Four years after setting off on the Bebop, in 2068,[7] he met Spike Spiegel who became his partner and close friend. The two quickly became the most feared bounty hunters in the Solar System.
In 2071, Jet and Spike, after chasing a kidnapper of animals, came across Ein, a dog with almost human intelligence, whom they somewhat reluctantly decided to adopt as a pet.
- #3Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivruski IV
Keys: Edward, Ed, Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivruski IV
Occupation: Hacker/Bounty hunter
Age: 16
Gender: SHE
Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivruski IV (エドワード・ウォン・ハウ・ペペル・チブルスキー4世, Edowādo Won Hau Peperu Chiburusukī Yonsei?), born Françoise Appledelhi and colloquially known as Radical Edward, was a child prodigy skilled in hacking originally from Earth. Her father was the cartographer Mr. Appledelhi.
Ed is a skinny copper-colored teenager with tufts of bright red hair. She is drawn with red cheek marks to accentuate her youth. Edward wears a loose midriff-baring sleeveless white shirt, showing her navel, compression shorts, and never wears footwear of any kind. Once she attempted to wear socks in Mushroom Samba but she immediately lost her balance, suggesting she may have never even worn shoes. She permanently wears a pair of large green goggles on her head or dangling from her neck. The goggles hook up to her computer and allow her to "net dive". Her somewhat androgynous appearance often causes her to be mistaken for a boy. Personality
Ed is an eccentric, resourceful, giggly, childlike, odd, curious, happy-go-lucky and extremely intelligent teenager. Ed has many attitudes, typically manifested by eccentric geniuses, such as a great susceptibility to distraction, and a tendency to talk to herself aloud and sing nursery rhymes or other literature popular among children. She often repeats the last words of the people who spoke before her and answers questions with seemingly meaningless phrases and sometimes real nonsense.
She frequently spaces out, similar to a trance, which seems to withdraw her from reality. She almost always refers to herself in the third person and rarely interacts with other characters in a real conversation.
She could be considered sort of a "free spirit"
Edward was born on January 1, 2058 on Earth. Her father, an eccentric man who was forgetful with anything but his work, left her at a day care center in 2064 and forgot to pick her up. Edward then spent two years in the care of other people before wandering into an orphanage in 2066. Under the care of Sister Clara, she was quickly part of the family there. Her best friend during her time there was a boy named Tomato who was also passionate about computer science. She named her computer Tomato after him. Having grown up without parents, she gave herself the name Edward Wang Hwe Pepel Cybulski 4th. In 2068, Ed fled the orphanage for reasons unclear to Clara: perhaps to search for her father, or perhaps out of a desire for freedom.
Edward built a reputation as a hacker, earning the nickname "Radical Edward." Many people had stories of who she really was – an alien, a basketball player, a 3-year old. She was only somewhat aware of her reputation. Edward also learned of a ship called the Bebop and wanted to be a part of its crew. She monitored its movements via the outernet, had several posters as well as a remote-controlled model made with a styrofoam cup and layers of cardboard.
On the Bebop
One day, Edward discovered the Bebop was on the way to Earth and hacked the ship. She found out that Jet and company were on the trail of a mysterious hacker guilty of vandalizing the surface of the earth by tampering with a satellite. Ed then discovered that the culprit was actually the software of the satellite itself. Naming it MPU, she wanted to help MPU evade capture. In exchange for her help, she extorted Faye Valentine to promise to make her a member of the crew by helping them get MPU off the satellite and using a copy of him to cash in the bounty.
She’s also extremely intelligent at a iq of 220
- #4Ein
Keys: Ein
Age: Puppy Occupation: cute fat pup
Ein (アイン, Ain?) is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and "data dog," meaning that his intelligence was greatly enhanced by a research facility. What exactly was done to him was not widely known. Ein became part of the Bebop crew and was a good friend of Edward.
Appearance: fat puppy corgi but he’s the size of a chubby toddler and has white fur on his belly and orange-brownish fur all around with big beady eyes
Ein was modified in a laboratory until Abdul Hakim stole him intending to sell him. Hakim put him into a briefcase and escaped the facility. While setting up a rendezvous with the buyer, the briefcase was stolen by another thief unaware of its contents. The thief went to Animal Treasure hoping to cash in but was caught by Spike Spiegel, who was looking for Hakim. The shop owner was forced to open the briefcase and Ein was revealed. Spike left, thinking it wasn't related to Hakim, but then Hakim soon appeared to confront the thief. He tried to grab Ein, but Ein jumped and caused a commotion which freed other animals in the shop. Hakim ran after Ein with Spike in pursuit, drawn to the commotion. Ein was able to lose Hakim and get close to Spike, who he immediately trusted, by enticing Hakim to jump onto a boat while Ein slowed Spike down while he chased after him.
Spike walked Ein later as bait for Hakim, only for Ein to be drawn to a dog whistle from the research scientists who were still looking for him. Hakim saw Ein run by, and was able to grab him, rendering him unconscious, and drive away in a stolen car. Ein woke up, however, and interfered with Hakim's driving as he avoided Spike in the Swordfish II. Ein jumped out of the car and was fortunately saved by Spike. With Hakim captured, Ein was then part of the crew, despite Spike's dislike of animals
Watanabe said that he chose a corgi because "I had a very strong request from the scenario writer that she really loved corgis and we had to have a corgi. She told me there’s no way of doing any other type of dogs, it had to be a corgi."
Intelligence
Ein is capable of doing the following things:
Driving a car (only the wheel) Answering a telephone Communicating with other animals Hacking a computer database by using his mind Playing Shogi Watching television Despite Ein's enhanced intelligence, he remained incapable of speaking (other than barking like any dog). Because of this, his intelligence largely goes unnoticed. Ed came to understand Ein through his body language and barking. Ein also barks once for "yes" and twice for "no".
- #5Faye Valentine
Keys: Fay fay, Faye, Valentine
Age 23 appearance wise but being frozen in ice chronologically shes 77
Occupation: Bounty hunter.
Faye Valentine (フェイ・ヴァレンタイン, Fei Varentain?) is a former wanted bounty head who later became a member of the bounty hunting crew aboard the Bebop. Although appearing to be no more than 23 years old, Faye is actually around 77 years old. This is because she was put into a cryogenic freeze after a space shuttle accident, wherein she spent fifty-four years in suspended animation.
Her body is absolutely beautiful she has a curvy pear build with child bearing hips and a perfect butt and breasts
Faye is a young woman of Singaporean descent with chin-length angular dark purple hair and green eyes. Her frame is tall and slender, and her skin is pale.
Her standard outfit consists of yellow shorts, a matching buttoned shirt, white ankle boots, flesh-colored stockings, and a loose red jacket.
The Beta tape found in Speak Like A Child, suggests that Faye has changed a lot from the innocent girl she used to be. As someone who constantly lives in an environment where she must seize every opportunity to find money, dressing revealingly makes people pay more attention to her and also distracts them long enough for her to take advantage of them. She is seen doing this in many instances throughout Cowboy Bebop, with the first being her first appearance in Honky Tonk Women. Personality
You know the first rule of combat? Shoot them before they shoot you. FAYE VALENTINE
Faye is an arrogant and lazy character. She's often seen lying around while the others work on a bounty and spends a majority of her time taking care of her appearance. She presents a long series of bad habits such as pathological gambling, alcoholism, excessive consumption of cigarettes and cigars, unwarranted violence, and forcing work on others. Because of her abrasive personality, she often clashes with her companions.
She's good at flirting with and seducing men to further her goals, but hates feeling desired and is rarely seen romantically interested in someone.
Faye avoids trusting anyone and is used to never staying too long in the same place because of her creditors. Although Faye tries to remain strong, in reality, she hides a deep emotional vulnerability and often is seen to nourish a great deal of sympathy and empathy for her traveling companions in spite of herself.
Although for the entire duration of the series the distinctive characteristics of Faye are her sarcasm and presumption, her character noticeably develops. In fact, she begins to trust her companions, understands the value of friendship, and even learns to love Jet Black and Edward in her own way. On different occasions, she runs away from the Bebop frightened by her affection for her companions (having become used to the idea of "leaving before being abandoned"). However, she always duly returns, the Bebop being the only place she can consider her "home." This attitude, as noted by Jet, seems to stem from a need for attention and is an attempt to prove her companions' affection for her.
Her relationship with Spike Spiegel is the most complex of the series. Most of the time they do nothing but bicker, but, in moments of danger, Faye has always shown concern for Spike, and Spike has shown some empathy for Faye's situation. Faye has also always taken care of Spike when he was injured, but she still kept a bitter attitude. The affection between them is quite obvious
During her adventures on the Bebop, Faye crosses paths with Spike Spiegel and Jet Black twice and makes herself at home aboard their ship the second time around, much to the consternation and disapproval of the two men, both of whom have their own reservations about women in general.
- #6Julia
Keys: Julia
Age 27 Occupation: bounty hunter/ but deceased
Julia (ジュリア, Juria) was an affiliate of the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate who had relationships with Vicious and Spike Spiegel.
Appearance
Julia is a young woman with shoulder-length blonde hair that has bangs hanging over her forehead and light blue eyes. Biography
Julia, Vicious and Spike Spiegel were comrades in the Red Dragon Syndicate. She had a relationship with Vicious in the 2060s.
SabiyoriJulia One day in 2068, she nursed Spike back to health after he was critically injured and collapsed outside her apartment. That night started a dangerous affair that led to Spike offering to abandon the Syndicate and elope with her, despite the fact that the Syndicate punishes desertion with death. Spike wrote her a letter arranging to meet at a graveyard later; however, Vicious had discovered the affair. He confronted Julia by telling her that she would have to kill Spike at the graveyard, or else they would both be killed. Instead, she ripped up the paper with the location on it and went into hiding while Spike knowingly walked into an ambush, presumed by the Syndicate to have died. She wouldn't be able to tell him about Vicious' threats.
She pledged to stay with him to the end and, indeed, the store was ambushed and they had to fight their way out. They made it to a rooftop and killed many of them, but one last one was able to shoot her as they ran. As she lay dying in Spike's arms, she whispered her last words to him: "It's all a dream," to which he responded, "Yeah, just a dream."
Julia: Disappeared and went into hiding three years ago. To Vicious, she is an ex-lover; to Spike, she is a soul mate untimely ripped from him by wicked circumstances.
- #7Vicious
Keys: Vicious
Age 27 Occupation member of the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate, gang venomous snake
Vicious (ビシャス, Bishasu?) was a member of the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate and veteran of the Titan War. He attempted a coup of the syndicate and became its leader briefly before being killed by Spike Spiegel.
Vicious is a tall and thin man with gray, untamed hair. His weapon of choice is a katana. This gives him a slight resemblance to Goemon Ishikawa from Lupin III, just as Spike seems to be a homage to Lupin himself and Jet's beard and preference for firearms invokes Daisuke Jigen. He is usually seen with his pet cormorant perched on his shoulder and his katana in hand. Vicious is 27 years old, though appears older due to his grey hair, the deep bags beneath his eyes, and a generally worn face. His elderly appearance at his young age could possibly be attributed to the events on Titan, some event linked to it, or his implied Red Eye addiction. He usually appears with a scowl, although there are a few scenes in which he smiles albeit sadistically due to his nature. Personality
Vicious is portrayed as a cold, sadistic, ruthless, bloodthirsty and ambitious man who prefers solitude over company. Within the Red Dragon, he is feared by his senior leaders, the Van, precisely because of his social climbing, and is willing to do anything to get what he wants, and doesn't place the slightest moral scruple in fulfilling heinous acts to reach his goals and achieve a more powerful position. Furthermore, he ruthlessly sacrifices his subordinates and conspires behind those who have sworn allegiance.
He is perceived by many people to be the dark half of Spike, basically showing the same indifferent attitude towards everything, although more sociopathically and less passive. He also shares with Spike a strong cynicism and rather similar opinions on life and several ethical issues.
Vicious doesn't show the least respect for traditions or ancestors and, proof of this, considers the Van's code, the doctrine of honor of the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate, a bunch of unfounded principles, principles that he usually transgresses, and begins a crusade in order to destroy them. He also doesn't show any respect for the Van, considering them incompetent old corpses lost in their past, nor for any human life.
Curiously, Vicious is never seen smiling during the whole series, apart from the sadistic grin during battles and the smirk in flashbacks showing him fighting alongside Spike.
Biography
Vicious was born in 2044, but not much about his early life is widely known. By 2068, Vicious had become a high-ranking member of the Red Dragon crime syndicate, alongside Spike Spiegel. He also met and developed a relationship with Julia. Mao Yenrai took Vicious and Spike under his wing, and they rose up through the ranks. Spike decided to leave the syndicate and attempted to take Julia with him, seemingly triggering their blood feud and possibly resulting in Vicious' enlistment in the War on Titan. It is established that Vicious knows Julia by this point, as he gives her music box to Gren, whom he testifies against for being a spy in the war's aftermath.

Biography
Anastasia was the owner of a convenience store on Mars, and a friend of Spike, Julia, and Mao Yenrai. She went by "Annie," and only allowed two certain people (presumably Mao and her late husband) to address her as such. She was a keen informant and in general a very sharp lady.
In 2071, Annie was minding her corner store watching TV while two kids attempt to steal pornography. She chased them down the street until the kids ran into Spike. Annie grabbed both boys, but then stopped in shock when she sees Spike, still alive. Spike went back with Annie to her store and she informed him of what happened to Mao. Annie, knowing what Spike must do, supplied him with weapons and ammunition while telling him not to go do anything stupid. She also said there's no use in telling him that because he never listens.
Annie's store was ambushed by syndicate men looking for Spike and Julia. She simply responded that Spike was dead, and they shot her, leaving her for dead. After they left, Annie saw Spike again, now with Julia, when they came to Annie's shop for supplies. Annie was slumped over on a bench holding her stomach while heavily bleeding. Spike tried to stop the bleeding, but Annie passes away shortly after their arrival. Her last words were "It got a little chilly today. It's those cold winds..." And she died on the couch covered in Julia's trench coat.
- #9Bob
Keys: Bob
Age 34 Occupation: cop
Appearance a tall skinny lengthy man with tan skin baggy eyes and a black mustache wearing cop uniform hair short black.
Bob is a police officer for the ISSP in the Ganymede Police Department. At one time in the past, he worked in the same department as Jet Black once had.
Bob worked on Ganymede during the threat of the Space Warriors. When Jet and Spike had captured Twinkle Maria Murdock and found out about the bounty retraction on her capture, Jet reached out to Bob for more information. With Jet's subtle threatening of knowledge of his questionable past behavior (possibly some stolen Red Eye), Bob reluctantly informed Jet of the full story on the Warriors' threat to release the virus. Bob recommended that Jet return Murdock, but Jet decided to dig deeper.
Later, Bob heard from Jet again about a strange man who almost killed Spike Spiegel. Despite the possibility of getting in trouble himself, he informed Jet about Mad Pierrot and his intention to kill high-level ISSP directors. He warned Jet about him, and that Spike was in trouble.
When Alba City was threatened by a nano-bot virus, Bob met Jet again to give him what information he could find on it. Resigned, he told Jet the high levels of ISSP were only willing to cover themselves, and the bottom levels were too corrupt. Jet notes that's been the same since he left. He later informed Jet about the ISSP raid on the water treatment plant.
Bob got word that the Red Dragon crime syndicate was undergoing a coup. Vicious was captured and the syndicate's leaders were eliminating anyone connected to him. He decided to call Jet and warn him. He urged him to leave Mars, but Jet said it was too late.
- #10Laughing Bull
Keys: Laughing Bull
Laughing Bull (ブル, Laughing Bull?) was a nomadic Native American living on Mars with his son. He practiced Native American customs and gave advice, which often sounded cryptic to outsiders. He knew Spike Spiegel and Jet Black and would help them occasionally.
Appearance: a elderly man with a very wrinkled face age estimated around 87 he has brown hair in a native like bun with two twisted braids going down his left and right shoulders he wears traditional native clothing and he is a fortune teller
History
Spike sought out Laughing Bull in order to track down Asimov Solensan, a drug dealer with a bounty on his head. Laughing Bull correctly predicted that "the red-eyed coyote" would appear in Zona Norte, in the far side of town. Using this information, Spike confronted Solensan and attempted to apprehend him.
After Gren conducted a Red Eye deal with Vicious, Laughing Bull observed a shooting star with his son. He saw it as the "tear of a warrior" and "lost soul who has finished his battles." Also, he could not find his way to the "great spirit."
Laughing Bull with wolf After his first fight with Vincent Volaju on the train car, Spike fell into the river and slipped into unconsciousness. He woke up to see Laughing Bull and another who had apparently saved him by hauling him out of the water and treating his wound. Here, Bull referred to Spike's two different eyes, calling one of them the "eye of truth," and stating that Spike has nothing to fear of death. He also referred to Spike by the name "Swimming Bird."
After Spike left the Bebop to confront his past with Vicious, Jet sought out Laughing Bull to find out where Spike was (though he believed it was a ridiculous idea). Laughing Bull explains to Jet (whom he calls Running Rock) that all living creatures that breathe have a guardian star and that this star falls when the creature dies. He foretells that Spike's star is about to fade and also tells Jet that he should not fear death. After the ending credits of the last episode, a star, near the top center of the screen, twinkles and fades out, and the scene shifts to Spike after the final confrontation.

Biography
In the Titan War
Little is known about Grencia Mars' past. Pictures in his apartment suggest he had a happy childhood and loving relationship with his mother. When he reached adulthood, Gren joining the military and was deployed during the Titan War where he was stationed in the same company as Vicious. Gren tried to befriend Vicious, joining him during his usual isolation between battles. Hearing a music box he was playing, Gren asked him about the tune it played to start a conversation. Vicious let him keep the trinket, and stood up to leave, but not before startling him by killing a scorpion near his head. Unknown to Gren, this music box contained a solar transmitter for tracking him. During their time afterwards, Gren grew to admire Vicious as a soldier.
After the war, Gren was tried as a spy by a military court and sent to prison. During that time, he heard of a rumor that Vicious was the one who testified against him. Gren had a lot of trouble with this, so much so that he was given an experimental drug to calm down. Unfortunately, the drug had side effects – it increased his estrogen levels, causing him to grow breasts. Eventually, he escaped from prison.
On Callisto
Gren hid out in Blue Crow, where he lived at the Orlando Apartments – a blue building in a town completely devoid of women. He started playing the saxophone regularly at the Rester House. He met Julia when she first visited the bar in 2069, a rare sight in the town. She proceeded to visit almost every night for a month, and they became friends. She would often request for him to play the same song: Julia. Julia also talked to Gren about Spike often, noting the colors of his eyes among other things. Gren told her about himself and showed her the music box he got from Vicious. When she heard who it was from, she told him to open it up knowing that the solar transmitter would be there. Gren became angry again and decided to confront Vicious to learn why his war comrade testified against him but needed to bide his time to make a plan.
Confronting Vicious
Gren decided to lure Vicious to Callisto for a Red Eye drug trade. He put his plan in motion in 2071, setting it up using Julia's name to draw Vicious out. The night before the deal, he met Faye Valentine and saw how she was dealing with her own problems. He brought her to his apartment thinking she was going to get herself into trouble. He was confronted whilst showering by Faye when she realized he knew Vicious . Gren then explained his past to her after she subsequently discovered his intersex qualities. She ended up trying to shoot him for having ties to Vicious (an enemy of hers), but Gren managed to disarm Faye and left her handcuffed to his bed while he carried out his plan.
- #12Big Shot
Keys: Big Shot
Big Shot was a television program covering the latest happenings in the Solar System for bounty hunters. The show's sole purpose was to inform the "300,000 bounty hunters in the star system" the latest bounties being placed on criminals. The entire show was silly and exaggerated, with an over-the-top cowboy theme.
The show ran for much of 2071. However, ratings slipped, and it was eventually cancelled. The last show reported on Doctor Londes.
- #13Punch
Keys: Punch
Punch (パンチ, Punch?) was the friendly host of Big Shot and character played by Alfredo. His onscreen persona was that of a classic western style cowboy, with an extreme, unrealistic accent and manner of speaking. His catchphrase was "shucks howdy!" on the show and would perform acts like using a lasso and riding a mechanical horse as part of the show's atmosphere. Despite his character, he was often the one to explain the particulars of bounties or the reason behind their failures, which often lead to long, drawn-out explanations in character.
After Big Shot's cancellation, Alfredo was next seen out of character, picking up his mother at a Martian airport. Despite his mother's concerns, Alfredo was very confident he'd be able to find a new job and promised he'd be able to care for her now that Big Shot had ended.
Punch wears a a cowboy like attire with a purple cowboy vest he’s a tall African American male that looks like he’s in his 40’s and has rough short black hair and a mustache with brown eyes.
His personality a uplifting man with a sentimental personality.
- #14Judy
Keys: Judy
Judy (ジュディ, Judy?) was Punch's sidekick on the show, taking on a bubbly persona who generally has silly or outrageous reactions to the current bounty they were promoting. She wears a powder-blue jacket seemingly affixed to her body, allowing her to show off her midriff and most of her breasts, serving as fanservice to keep viewers at attention. She mainly played the role of a spectator, asking Punch questions or solidifying his statements. She would also apologize to all the viewers if the bounty head turned out to have died or otherwise not be able to be pursued.
Judy wears a cowgirl appearance outfit with cowgirl pants and a heart shaped belt with a blue cowgirl top thats open exposing her breasts and stomach but enough to cover her nipples and she has long blonde hair with turquoise eyes and pink heart earrings.
Her personality is very tricky she appears soft voiced and adorable having a squeaky voice but can get pissed and annoyed easily her voice changing to soft to angry.
She attempted to read part of Teddy Bomber's essay on why he was bombing buildings, however, it was so long it was cut short just before the credits of the show.
When the show was canceled, the actress who played Judy broke character on air and furiously stormed off the set. Later, she was rumored to have been engaged to her manager.
Other women who bore a resemblance to Judy claimed to be "look-a-likes."
- #15Three Old Men
Keys: Three Old Men, the old guys
Antonio, Carlos and Jobim are three old men who travel throughout the Solar System and continually encounter Spike and the Bebop crew, however, neither group ever acknowledges having seen the other before.
They claim to have dug an Astral Gate together.
History
The three went to the El Ray bar on Tijuana to play cards. Unfortunately, the bar was attacked by a syndicate in pursuit of Asimov Solensan, who also went to the bar. They immediately hit the floor when the firefight started and, fortunately, survived. They left to the north side of town to continue playing at the Denis Bar, however, Spike and Solensan had arrived there as well, and a fight broke out.
They went to Spiders From Mars to play blackjack. Spike wished their hand luck and they won, so he took a few poker chips.
They went to Mac's Diner to try to guess Victoria Terpsichore's full name. Unfortunately, they didn't check that their guess actually started with the letter "V" and Terpsichore let them know. They were disappointed.
They often visited the Bohemian Junkheap and hung out with Chessmaster Hex. One day, they met him after lunch when he was surprised by Spike, Faye, and Jonathan. Ignoring them, Hex was excited to tell the old men about his new chess opponent (Edward). Jonathan was angry and started shooting until he was knocked out, but he didn't hurt anyone.
They went to Io and had food at the Pescaderia. They saw Shaft at another table seemingly depressed, so they asked him if he's all right, supposing he lost his girlfriend. Shaft told them to keep to themselves, but, when he saw Edward drive by, he quickly tried to finish his ice cream, causing a headache. The old men came near him with concern, one offering a cure – mushrooms. Shaft left later.
Jobim was wandering by a water fountain and saw Teddy Bomber there. Soon, Spike and Andy came, but they all ran off.
The three were playing cards at the Cafe Ifrane in Alba City when Spike was looking for Mendelo al-Hedia. When they realized he was a bounty hunter, they left immediately.
- #16Abdul Hakim
Keys: Abdul Hakim
Abdul Hakim (アブドゥル・ハキム, Abdul Hakim?) was a criminal and notorious serial pet thief who became a bounty head.
Hakim was skilled in hand-to-hand combat and carried a gun.
Appearance a tall African American man with a black afro with angry shaped sleepy eyes with gold hoop earrings and a goatee with a fancy outfit a green flat vest and a white t-shirt.
Personality cold and stern.
In 2071, Hakim stole a "data dog" named Ein from an illegal research facility intending to sell it to a buyer. This incurred a bounty of 8 million Woolongs. He then used a doctor to perform surgery on him to alter his appearance and, even his size; post-surgery, he appeared much bigger than the size that Big Shot reported. Instead of paying the doctor, however, he beat him up and left.
The bounty hunters Jet Black and Spike Spiegel started to track Hakim as he stuffed Ein into a briefcase and waited for the rendezvous with the buyer. However, at a cafe, a petty thief stole the briefcase from him and escaped briefly. Hakim caught up with the thief at Animal Treasure, but the briefcase had already been opened, and Hakim could not grab Ein. Ein ran, causing a commotion that drew Spike to chase Hakim chasing Ein. Hakim met Spike on a bridge and jumped after Ein onto a passing boat, but Ein instead jumped back up to slow Spike down. Spike and Ein escaped, and Hakim made his way back out of the river eventually.
Hakim briefly consulted a fortune teller on the street when he heard several dogs, including Ein, who had been enticed by a dog whistle. He ran after the dogs, stole a car, and was able to grab Ein and subdue him. He drove away from the city, but not only had Ein woke up and started messing with the controls, but Spike had also been following in the Swordfish II. Hakim crashed into an ISSP precinct along with the criminal scientists he stole from, and all were arrested by the police.
Background
His appearance, name, and fighting style were modeled after the NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
- #17Andy
Keys: Andy
Andy Von De Oniyate (アンディ・フォン・デ・オニヤテ, Andi Fon De Oniyate?) was a rich, egocentric bounty hunter with a cowboy gimmick. As such, he had interactions with the Bebop crew, particularly Spike Spiegel.
Appearance
Andy has a tall, thin build, very similar to Spike's. His blonde hair is grown out and fluffy. In keeping with his adopted cowboy character, Andy invariably wears a full cowboy costume. This consists of a white coat and chaps, grey double breasted shirt, jeans, grey gloves, and a large red ascot. The costume is completed with a large traditional grey cowboy hat.
Andy is also rarely seen without his horse and constant companion, Onyx. He uses Onyx as his primary means of transportation, often riding him into buildings or even up elevators.
Following his fight with Spike, Andy abandoned his cowboy character and adopted the character of samurai Miyamoto Musashi. He appeared in the final scene of the episode wearing a samurai-style kimono, riding his horse, which he renamed Jiroumaru. Personality
Andy is a rich, incompetent, self-centered, stubborn and selfish bounty hunter.
He later on develops a new code, following the code of a samurai and dons a new look. Abilities
Andy's main combat skill is the use of his Colt Single Action Army pistols, which he carries two of. When hunting bounties, his primary tactic is simply to confront his target directly and attempt to bring them in at gunpoint. While he is proficient in the operation of his single action pistols, he seems to have little skill in actually hitting targets. When facing Spike on the rooftop of City Hall, he empties his pistols during the fight, hitting nothing. During his early chase involving the Teddy Bomber and Spike, he fires his shotgun style grenade launcher at Spike indiscriminately, hitting multiple buildings. This recklessness in no doubt the cause of his many destruction of property charges.
Andy also appears to have basic hand-to-hand combat skills. He is seen adopting an English boxing posture and mainly using punches in his attacks. It has agility and balance close to that of Spike.
- #18Asimov Solensan
Keys: Asimov
Asimov Solensan (アシモフ・ソーレンサン, Asimov Solensan?) was a high-level member of a crime syndicate and bounty head. He was killed by his wife, Katerina while attempting to escape from Spike Spiegel, as he had a bounty of 2.5 million ₩.
Biography
Asimov was a major player in his syndicate until he killed his own guys in a shootout against a rival syndicate and took off with the performance drug, Bloody Eye, intending to start a new life on Mars with his wife, Katerina. He then went on the run with her while selling as much as he could of his stolen Bloody Eye. He also used the Bloody Eye to enhance his fighting abilities when he got in trouble with the Syndicate or anyone else. It increased the amount of adrenaline in his bloodstream, giving him superhuman strength, reflexes, and speed. It also, however, took its toll on him, as his over-extended use caused delusions of grandeur and his appearance to degenerate. One of his potential buyers was a man in the El Ray bar. In the back of the bar, Solensan demonstrated the Bloody Eye on himself, however, the rival syndicate soon arrived and the resulting firefight killed the buyer. Solensan, under the full effects of Bloody Eye, was able to kill them all before Katerina was in danger. They had to move on, knowing that this would attract the ISSP on their tail.
Spike Spiegel and Jet Black eventually hunted him on Tijuana. Solensan "met" Spike in a bathroom while coming down from his Bloody Eye episode, then followed him discretely, suspecting a trap, while Spike talked to his wife. While they talked, he attacked Spike from behind and drove off with Katerina. On his next attempt to sell Bloody Eye, he realized Spike set a trap for him and attacked him, however, without the full benefit of Bloody Eye, Spike was able to best him. Under interference from an attack by a rival syndicate, he escaped with Katerina and he decided to charge the ISSP barricade of the Astral Gate to escape. Unbeknownst to him, Katerina had increasingly believed that Asimov would not be able to follow through with their plan and, rather than be captured or kill the police officers with them charging ahead, she killed him en route.
- #19Chessmaster Hex
Keys: Chessmaster, Hex
Hex had been dubbed a genius from his teens. In the CosmoNet Chess tournaments, he held the Champions Seat for decades. In 2003, he applied his intellect to the Hyperspace Gate Project, joining the program at 30 years of age. He eventually developed the Central Control System that all Astral Gates use. However, he started to have doubts about the design, saying there were defects and the gates shouldn't be built yet. He insisted to delay the construction in order to run more tests, but the Gate Corporation disagreed, fired him, and built the first gate without his aid by 2021.
"Hex was furious. He wanted revenge so he used the design defects against the Gate Corporation by giving wanna-be criminals the information they would need to hijack the Astral Gate toll booths. He set up the sting to kick in fifty years later when the gate was pre-scheduled for its first automatic tech upgrade. It was all planned out. He even arranged for his operatives to carry chess pieces to let you know he had finally gotten back at you. But fifty years is a long time; Hex got old, then he got senile. He completely forgot about the traps that he himself had set." - Jet, on Chessmaster Hex.
In the meantime, he went to live in a Bohemian Junkheap, free from governments, nationalities and the police. He passed the time playing chess and hanging out with the Three Old Men.
By 2071, Hex had become senile and had forgotten about the plan he created, though he continued to play chess. He incurred a bounty, though not by name, and several bounty hunters searched for him. Eventually, the crew of the Bebop found him as well as Jonathan. At the same time, Hex was playing a particularly long chess game with Edward, who he claimed was the first formidable opponent he had in ages. After he won the chess match that went on for days, he passed away from old age, but as his final opponent was his best, he died a happy man with no regrets
- #20Coffee
Keys: Coffee
On Io, Coffee pursued a bounty head, Domino Walker, and started by visiting some places to ask around about him. At one stop, a watermelon truck, she bought a melon as an incentive to the shopkeeper to help her later. Unbeknownst to her, Edward and Ein, who were salivating at the melons at the time, had sneaked into the trunk of her car. She drove into town and, later on, at a gas station, Coffee was approached by two police officers who were also looking for Walker. They intended to search her car, which she didn't mind. However, when they found Ed and Ein, they took her away to the Io Police Department. Despite her insistence she didn't know anything about the child, Sergeant Jeffly Frank interrogated her. She saw Edward again passing by the station and, when he was distracted by a phone call, sneaked out to pursue. She quickly followed Ed and found Walker jumping on a train. She followed behind closely, shooting at Walker but unable to get him. Edward caught up with her and, using Coffee's car as a stepping stone, got on the train. Soon, Shaft, who was also pursuing, fell off the train right onto the car and she crashed. They both survived.
Background
Coffee's appearance and name are seemingly based on the titular character from the 1973 blaxploitation film Coffy, played by Pam Grier. Both characters have brown skin, brown eyes and a large Afro-style hairstyle. Their outfits are also similar, with both of them wearing gold hoop earrings, and bodysuits that show off their cleavage.
- #21Elektra Ovirowa
Keys: Elektra
Elektra Ovirowa (エレクトラ・オヴィロゥ, Erekutora Ovirō?) was a soldier in the Mars Army and a veteran of the Titan War. She was in a relationship with Vincent Volaju and tried to save him from his insanity.[1]
Biography
Ovirowa joined the Army and met Volaju during the Titan conflict. She entered a relationship with him, however, when the experiment to which he was subjected claimed his sanity, he seemed to lose his memory, including of her. Unbeknownst to her, Volaju gave her the same vaccine he was given.
In 2071, Ovirowa worked for a Colonel in charge of Cherious Medical. After Volaju's attack on an Alba City highway, the colonel ordered all evidence of the nano-machines eliminated, including killing Volaju and Mendelo al-Hedia. Ovirowa was now in conflict and had to proceed carefully. Going to Moroccan Street to find al-Hedia, she spoke to her contacts but couldn't find the doctor. However, she did take note of Spike Spiegel, a suspicious-looking man on the street. Later, she reported her findings to the Colonel and, on the way back, found Spike again masquerading as one of the cleaning staff. She tried to capture him, but, instead, he got away and left a listening device in her jacket. Eventually, her agents spotted Volaju heading to the train station. She broke protocol and went after him herself, catching up to just barely make it on the same train he boarded. She made her way toward the other side to find both him and Spike in a standoff. She survived both a bullet to the arm and a small dose of the nano-machine virus that Volaju set off, which shocked her. She then realized she had the vaccine, too, and asked Steve to verify it for her. However, because she was already under surveillance, the Colonel found out and had her imprisoned.
Spike was already captured and in the next cell. After a chat, they planned their escape and successfully forced Harris to open the cell. Ovirowa led Spike to where her blood was still available. Steve helped her locate it, apologized, and gave her the best route to escape the facility.
She later teamed up with the crew of the Bebop to put an end to Vincent's intent to destroy the population of Mars. They figured out that Volaju intended to spread the nano-machines via explosion of the floats in the Halloween parade. Their plan was to use her blood samples to make more of the vaccine to spread over Alba City. She went with Jet Black to procure pilots and aircraft to spread the vaccine over the parade. Then, she went into the crowds to find Volaju, apparently dressed as a witch. She spotted lights in the big metal tower flicker and realized that's where he was. She found him about to execute Spike and called out to him. With their guns trained on each other, she had to choose whether he would remember her that time or shoot. She fired, but he hesitated. Before he died, he said he remembered her and their love for one another, and she cried for him. Appearance
Elektra appears as a young woman of Hispanic heritage. She has brown hair, light tan skin, and black eyes. She wears a short red jacket over a black tank top tucked into her pants. She wears white shoes.
She possesses a slim, yet well fit physique likely from joining the Army. Background
She is visually inspired by Gina Gershon.
- #22Fatty River
Keys: Fatty river
Fatty River (ファッティー・リバー,, Fattī Ribā?) was a bounty hunter and an old friend of Jet Black. True to his nickname, he was a large man.
River tracked a bounty head, Giraffe, to a nightclub where he ran into Jet, who was also after Giraffe. Jet got into a boisterous conversation with him in order to keep River occupied while Spike followed Giraffe. Giraffe, however, was killed later, making the bounty disappear.
River later was taken out to lunch by Jet for information about Giraffe and Zebra, and he told him about their separation ten years prior, since there was no bounty in it.
- #23Lin
Keys: Lin
Lin was a member of the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate along with his brother, Shin. He partnered with Vicious until his death on Callisto.
Biography
Lin joined the Red Dragon Syndicate and worked under Spike Spiegel for a time. He became fiercely loyal to those he was pledged to serve and gradually rose through the ranks, believing in the Syndicate. However, he also came to prefer methods that avoided needless violence. After Spike disappeared, Lin served under Vicious.
In 2071, when Vicious received a request for a deal on Red Eye from a contact named Julia on Callisto, Lin presented the details to The Van with Vicious. Wang Long decided to allow it, and Lin was sent to protect and keep an eye on Vicious for anything suspicious. As the two left the Red Dragon ship to head to Callisto, he pledged his loyalty to Vicious for the Red Dragon, despite Vicious' statement that he'll need to betray him at times.
- #24Julius
Julius was a drag queen, paid to hook up with guys.
Appearance
He wore a long, red skirt, and a thin, black shirt. He was also seen wearing a large, white fur coat, but only over his shoulders. He keeps his arms outside the coat. He also wears red gloves, and holds a smoking pipe. As for his physical appearance, Julius is a bulky man with a thick face. He covers his face in big dark red lipstick, and light blue eye shadow on his green eyes. He also wears a blonde wig, with hair going down just below his back. It also hangs down his face, going right at nose level. He has thin blonde eyebrows and a burly bit of aftershave on his face. While on Callisto, Spike ran into Julius while looking for Julia. He asked people around if they have seen her, and one man responded that he sees a Julia every day outside Tony's place (mistaking the name Julia for the name Julius). So Spike headed over, and met Julius, who explained he's not the person Spike is searching for. She then continues on to tell him Gren might know Julia, as he's seen Gren with women all the time, and plays Saxophone at the Blue Crow. Spike takes the lead, and begins looking for Gren. Personality
Julius is a very feisty character, with a straightforward attitude. He hits on any guys he finds attractive, even if they're straight. He'll even toy with guys he knows won't hook up with him, just to make them blush. He is highly flirtatious.
- #25George
Keys: George
George was a pirate, hacker and bounty head.
Appearance
George had curly red hair and tiny beady little eyes, and large eyebrows. He normally wore a long blue hoodie jacket (most of the time the hood was up, even when inside). Personality
George was sarcastic, evil, and a tad insane. Whenever he hacked into peoples ship systems, he almost got a sick kick out of it, laughing hysterically at whoever he catches. He taunted his victims and faced problems with overconfidence (most likely because he's using one of the most advanced ship hacking systems in existence).
- #26Katerina Solensan
Keys: Katerina
Katerina Solensan (カテリーナ・ソーレンサン, Katerina Solensan?) was a drug smuggler and wife of the criminal Asimov Solensan. Dreaming of leaving the Tijuana asteroid for a better life on Mars, she instead died in the attempt alongside Asimov.
Appearance
Katerina is a young busty woman with light-medium skin tone and purple eyes. Her wavy brown hair is tied with blue ribbons and she wears geometric earrings. She is dressed in a purple maternity dress. Her appearance is highly inspired by Salma Hayek in Desperado. Biography

When Asimov decided to leave the syndicate while stealing Bloody Eye in order to make a living for the two of them, Katerina hid the vials under her dress, making it appear she was pregnant. She would then accompany Asimov to his business deals selling the Bloody Eye. They went to the El Ray bar, which turned into a shoot-out when Asimov's former syndicate members found them. She was a good shot with a gun, too, and killed one of them while Asimov used the Bloody Eye to kill the majority of them.
- #27Sally yung
Keys: Sally young
Sally Yung was one of Faye Valentine's high school classmates.
Yung was a friend of Faye in the early 21st century. They made some videos which were recorded on beta cassette. She would later hear that Faye was on a space shuttle that had a catastrophic accident, and that Faye was put into cold storage to preserve her for being cured later.
Yung would later marry, have children, and eventually grandchildren including a girl.
In 2071, she was out with her grandchild when she saw Faye by the lion fountain, in the same area as in her youth, and recognized her. Despite thinking she may be a ghost, she got her attention. She started to explain what happened to her all those years ago when it seemed Faye did not remember, however, Faye oddly decided to leave. Yung watched her go in confusion
- #28Shin
Keys: Shin
When Vicious was held prisoner by the syndicate and The Van sent men to eliminate anyone with ties to him, Shin decided to help Spike and Julia. He left a message for Julia on her answering machine warning her, and then followed the team that went after Spike, finding him at the Loser Bar. He sneaked in during the firefight and informed Spike of the situation and Julia's location in Tharsis. He held off the other syndicate members as Spike and Jet Black escaped.[1]
Shin returned to the syndicate headquarters and was shocked that Vicious had not only escaped, but he and his men had killed all the ones loyal to the Van as well as them. Vicious asked him to report and, when he said Spike escaped, told him to go back and not to follow in Lin's footsteps. Shin left but instead helped Spike when he infiltrated the building. He led him from one elevator to the other, telling him Vicious' location.
- #29Teddy Bomber
Keys: Teddy Bomber
Ted Bower, more commonly known as the "Teddy Bomber," was an activist and terrorist who used explosive teddy bears to destroy what he viewed as symbols of capitalism.
Appearance
Bower was a middle-aged man of average height, with a slightly-seedy build. He had a full head of hair and beard, both turning grey as he approached middle age.
In order to facilitate his bombing practices, Bower often wears disguises that fit the locations he is bombing. For his first target, he dons a security guard outfit, allowing him to move about the building without being questioned. The next target happens to be hosting a costume party, so Bower wears a fitting costume: a large teddy bear suit. While confronting Spike and Andy at City Hall, he wears normal clothes; a shirt and light jacket with shorts and boots.
Bower is also always seen wearing at least one watch on his wrist, which doubles as a remote for his explosives. Personality
Bower viewed himself as an activist, trying to warn the public about the dangers of unchecked capitalism. He sees the tallest skyscrapers of Mars as symbols of these capitalistic dangers and has resolved to destroy them, starting with the tallest.
As a bomber, Bower is highly skilled in making explosives. His bears are relatively small, but can create huge explosions, enough to create significant structural damage to large buildings. - #30Udai Taxim
Keys: Ubai
Udai Taxim (ウダイ・タクシム, Udai Taxim?) was an assassin and former member of the European syndicate.
Biography
In the 2060s, Udai worked for the European syndicate and became an essential member. He became involved in a plot to kill or injure the former ISSP agent Jet Black, who was one of the few police officers not on the syndicate's payroll. Coordinating with Fad, who was also working for the syndicate, they trapped him in a secluded area and, as a result, Jet lost his left arm and was forced to use a prosthetic one.
In 2071, Udai was captured and transferred on a transport prison ship to Pluto when an electrical short-circuit allowed him and his fellow inmates to hijack the ship. After killing most on board, he suggested a plan to break the line of police which isolated them. He tried to get back in contact with the syndicate for help, but they refused. He was forced to make a stand with the other inmates. Jet and Fad tracked the ship down and boarded it. Seeing Jet appear on the video feed, he leaves to confront him saying, 'This one's mine, understand?'. After a brief gunfight, Udai and Jet begin fighting hand-to-hand while simultaneously conversing over their shared history. Jet accuses him of the arm he lost and gains the upper hand until Udai stabs him in the leg. Udai then reveals that he wasn't the one who fired the gun that made Jet lose his arm. Rather, it was his old partner. After revealing the secret, he is shot in the head by Fad before he and Jet can continue their fight.[1] Appearance and Personality
Udai is a 6'2", bespectacled, skinny man with a thin mustache. In his younger years, he was clean shaven and straightened his hair to pull it back in a ponytail. When speaking, he is quite soft-spoken and calm.

Like Spike's enemy, Vicious, he is an underling for the European branch of The Syndicate, being their personal assassin. Jet describes him as being 'very old-fashioned' and 'doesn't really belong in this day and age'. He also has no qualms about killing those who stand in his way, yet still feels loyalty to The Syndicate before he realizes they betrayed him.
He is also manipulative and ruthless and has no qualms in killing anybody in his way.
- #31Victoria Terpsichore
- #32Wen
Keys: Wen
Wen (ウェン, Wen?) was a boy that lived on Earth.
The Astral Gate accident caused his body to stop aging and rendered him virtually immortal. He awoke to realize his parents were dead and he was the only survivor of the accident. In order to keep his condition a secret, he would kidnap older men, render them paralyzed, and pretend that they were his father or guardian. Wen became a gifted harmonica player on Mars and played in a nightclub for many nights.
Wen was eventually discovered and subjected to experiments in a secret facility. The facility became known to the Self Defense Volunteer Squad and two of their agents, Zebra and Giraffe, attempted to reclaim it. Zebra was abducted a few days later and became Wen's cover for the next ten years.
Giraffe continued to search for Zebra, and eventually found him and Wen in a hotel. Giraffe threatened Wen with a gem that could undo the effects that kept Wen immortal. Wen simply shot Giraffe and he went through the window. Unbeknownst to Wen, Giraffe had been followed by Spike Spiegel, who was outside in his ship. Wen looked out the window to see Spike save Giraffe from falling, but Wen knew Giraffe would die from his injury.
Wen led Spike into a trap in a warehouse later and questioned him about the gem. When Spike claimed not to have it, Wen started a shoot-out in which he disposed of Zebra but was also shot in the head. However, he still escaped and recovered. He later stole a taxi cab to leave to the outskirts of the city. A sadistic killer kid
- #33Astral gate
Keys: Astral gate
An Astral Gate was a device created by the Gate Public Corporation through its Hyperspace Gate Project to enable travel through hyperspace within the Solar System. They made interplanetary travel possible within a matter of hours, a feat not achievable before their inception.
Design
The gates charged a toll on all traffic through the gates. As a ship passes through, a communication would come to each ship to announce their destination and gate fare. The gates could be shut down while the ships were in transit. In this case, the ships would forever be stuck in hyperspace, regardless of whether the gates were reopened. Those on the outside of the gate would see a transparent image of the ship coming out, though it is only an image.
- #34Woolong
Keys: Woolong, money
The Woolong (symbol: ₩, with only 1 line through it) is the standard unit of currency in the Solar System.
Woolongs could be traded in physical paper notes or digitally transferred with special devices.
Poker chips had the Woolong symbol on them.
It was typical of bounties to be in the amount of millions of Woolongs. Consequently, an amount of 50 Woolongs was trivial.
Background
The Woolong appears to be roughly at parity with the mid-1990s Japanese Yen, or slightly inflated. The latter might not be the case if the probable increased cost of consumer goods in a space-faring society is considered. For instance, a watermelon in "Mushroom Samba" was ₩1000. Whereas in "My Funny Valentine", debts such as ₩30M for a house, and ₩7000 for pizza, are seen. In "Stray Dog Strut", the pet shop worker said that Ein could possibly sold for only ₩200 (mistranslated as ₩2 in the English dub), since the Welsh Corgi is a common special
- #35Bebop
Keys: Bebop
The Bebop is a converted interplanetary fishing trawler owned and captained by Jet Black. It was the primary residence and transport for a crew that consists of Jet, Spike Spiegel, Faye Valentine, Edward, and Ein. The ship traveled throughout the Solar System to places such as Mars, Tijuana, Ganymede, Venus, and Earth.
History
Originally built to catch and transport fish from the seas of Ganymede, the Bebop was purchased second-hand by Jet, who installed larger engines and upgraded the communication system.
A Ganymede rock lobster was left in a fridge in the attic for too long, causing an unknown creature to gradually subdue the crew. The ship was put on autopilot, destined for Mars, while Spike took the creature on.
When Faye realized Ed knew something about her old home on Earth, she commandeered the Bebop and left it there without telling Jet or Spike.
The Bebop was attacked by the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate in an effort to kill Spike. Spike and Faye reach their ships to fend them off, but the Bebop was damaged in the fight. Design
The ship was around 142m long / 69.2m wide / 45.6m high, weighing 1567 tons
The front part of the ship looks very much like a normal seagoing vessel with a V profiled hull. The aft section that contains the engines is formed wider like wings, or the side hulls of a trimaran ship. The most functional interior space of the ship is in the middle part.
- #36Maria
Keys: Maria
"Twinkle" Maria Murdock (トゥインクル・マリア・マードック, "Twinkle" Maria Murdock?) was the leader of an eco-terrorist organization, Space Warriors.
Murdock led the members of the once-peaceful environmental group in a more radical direction, believing humans had no right to interfere with nature. Eventually, she led the plan to infect the moon of Ganymede with a genetic-altering virus. She, therefore, had a 25 million Woolong bounty placed on her.
Murdock was briefly captured by the crew of The Bebop in a restaurant near Ganymede. Knowing her group would be able to rescind the bounty through a threat of the virus, she played along and was held on the ship. Jet eventually found out the bounty was canceled and was forced to release her. During her time there, she found out that the group somehow came across one of the vials of the virus, but did not make it known that she knew what it was. Spike, however, knew and slipped it into her pocket as she left to rejoin her group.
- #37Bounty head
Keys: Bounty head
A bounty head was a person wanted for committing a crime with the promise of a reward, or bounty, upon capture and presentation before a participating law enforcement organization.
- #38Bounty hunter
Keys: Bounty hunter
A bounty hunter (or cowboy, cowgirl, etc.) was a private citizen with the authority to capture fugitives for a bounty given by a law enforcement organization.
Bounty hunters often watched the television show Big Shot for news on new bounty heads. The show provided descriptions of the criminals and rumors. Bounty hunters also looked for rumors themselves.
The ISSP issued bounties on wanted criminals throughout the Solar System, but individual planets, in particular Earth, may have their own police force to release and pay for bounties. Stations had dispensaries for the cash reward.
Some social circles frowned upon the bounty hunting profession as being violent and crude, while others are taken to its freedom and self-reliant nature.
- #39Mono computer
Keys: Mono computer
MONO computer is a computer that runs MONO systems, like navigation and airframe monitoring.
Many ships had MONO computers, including the Bebop, Swordfish II and Red Tail.
In 2071, a team of pirates, George, Herman and Ruth, stole a MONO computer along with several other items from a trucking ship.
- #40Red tail
Keys: Red tail
The Red Tail was a Personal MONO zipcraft owned and flown by Faye Valentine. She used the ship extensively for bounty hunting and was adept at flying and fighting with it.

Doohan built the Swordfish II and, at one point, decided to give it to Spike Spiegel. At some point, he took on Miles as an assistant, despite his upbeat attitude. Doohan would often dismiss Miles's suggestions about upgrading certain systems, preferring to keep the machine in its own way.
Doohan had a long-term project to fix the NASA space shuttle Columbia. Miles was pessimistic about it, but Doohan was confident.
In 2071, Spike came to the compound for repairs. Doohan characteristically gave a short welcome, and started fixing the Swordfish, barking orders at Miles. Later, when Reggie came to deliver a part for the ship, Doohan also saw a MONO computer Reggie was trying to sell. Skeptical of its origins, he asked him where he got it and, when he described the ship, Spike overheard this and confirmed the computer was stolen by pirates. After Spike and crew were ambushed by the pirates, Miles heard the radio transmissions from the conflict in orbit and warned Doohan, who decided he had to help. With Miles's assistance, he got the Columbia into the air with the help of JATO rocket boosters, and successfully intercepted Spike in the upper atmosphere. Using the Columbia's cargo bay, Doohan captured the immobilized and out of control Swordfish before it burned up in the atmosphere. After rescuing Spike, Doohan was forced to crash land the shuttle on Earth due to extensive damage to its systems sustained during the rescue
- #43Callisto
Keys: Callisto
Callisto was an ice-covered moon of Jupiter, and the third-largest moon in the Solar System behind Ganymede and Titan.
Callisto was terraformed in the 21st century, though only barely, as it was a cold and desolate natural satellite. Existing on the outskirts of inhabited space, Callisto had become a refuge for illegal groups and trades, and the population was almost entirely male. As such, there were also very few families or children.
The moon underwent a financial depression in 2071.
Gren lived on Callisto in Blue Crow from 2068-2071 until his death. Julia visited the moon and met Gren for a time in 2069
- #44Jupiter
Keys: Jupiter
Jupiter is the fifth and largest planet in the Solar System. There were several terraformed colonies on its moons Ganymede, Io and Callisto.
More of Jupiter's moons were mapped, such as Metis, Adrastea, Amalthea, Thebe.
Due to the presence of several colonies, there were several Astral Gates in orbit.
Faye Valentine fled from the Bebop after her encounter with Gordon, however, she ran out of fuel near Jupiter.
Pao Pu-Zi escaped the Blue Snake crime syndicate in a ship towards Jupiter when he disappeared
- #45Solar system
Keys: Solar system
The Solar System is the collection of planets, moons and asteroids bound to the Sol star due to gravity and the space surrounding them.
History
Before the 21st century, humankind only lived on Earth and explored space on missions. In the 21st century, however, humankind traveled to several other planets and moons to colonize them.Hyperspace technology allowed travel in days, both people and package delivery.
As mankind traveled back and forth in the solar system, trash was discarded and collected in various areas. Planets and major locations
Mercury
Mercury is the innermost and smallest planet in the Solar System.
A space station near Ganymede advertised imports from Mercury.
Venus
Main article: Venus Venus is close in size to Earth, and is structurally similar to Earth. It was colonized and given a habitable atmosphere.
Earth
Main article: Earth Earth is the largest and densest of the four inner planets, the only one known to have current geological activity, and is the only place in the solar system where life naturally existed. After the Astral Gate accident near its moon, Luna, however, the surface was much less habitable.
Mars
Main article: Mars Mars is smaller than Earth and Venus. It is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere, having surface features reminiscent both of the impact craters of the Moon and the volcanoes, valleys, deserts and polar ice caps of Earth. It was in these craters that colonies were created.
Bohemian Junkheap
Main article: Bohemian Junkheap The Bohemian Junkheap was an ungoverned location in space that consisted of discarded ship parts and other materials. A colony of people live there.
Asteroid belt
Main article: Asteroid belt The asteroid belt was made of asteroids between Mars and Jupiter. Several asteroids were mined, such as the Linus Mine, and some were inhabited, like Tijuana.
Jupiter
Main article: Jupiter Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest planet within the Solar System. The four largest moons, Ganymede, Callisto, Io, and Europa, were colonized and there were space stations.
Saturn
Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest planet in the Solar System, after Jupiter. One of its moons, Titan, was habitable, if barely.
Uranus
Uranus was the next planet after Saturn. There was an observatory called the Fourth Observatory of Uranus.
Neptune
Neptune was the next planet after Uranus.

The two escape by jumping onto a nearby bus and then into a canal. Jet takes Meifa aboard The Bebop where he explains to her that he had not heard from Pao in ten years. Meifa tells Jet that Pao had died in a transport accident on the way to Jupiter when a hyperspace fluctuation had occurred. Jet shows Meifa the message, and she confirms that it was sent right before the accident occurred. She requests Jet's help in tracking down her father, believing that it is possible he may have survived. She states that Jet's arrival coincides with the best combination for feng-shui and that her father's disappearance has something to do with the sunstone.
- #47Sun stone
Keys: Sun stone
A sunstone was a piece of the moon that was affected after the Astral Gate accident. It was believed that spatial fluctuations were absorbed in the stones and, further, that the energy can be released and amplified by the Sun.
Pao Pu-Zi collected two sunstones. He left one on Mars for his daughter to find while he kept one to open a pocket in hyperspace in order to hide from the Blue Snake crime syndicate. Pao Meifa and Jet Black on the Bebop used Meifa's stone to open the pocket by having Spike Spiegel shoot it with his ship, the Swordfish II
