   ADVENTURERS

   • Adventurers take on quests beyond the capabilities of ordinary citizens. They come from every race and background, and every adventurer has a rank and a class.
   • Most operate through the Adventurer's Guild branches; some work independently ("freelancers"), though these are less common nowadays.
   • Most operate in parties of 2 to 5 members, each filling a specific field role to balance the group. Parties may form temporarily for a single quest or stay together for years, building reputation and camaraderie.
   • Adventurers are split into class archetypes. The most common are Fighters, Rogues, Sorcerers, Healers, etc.

   ADVENTURER'S GUILD

   • The Adventurer's Guild is a central, neutral organization overseeing and managing adventurers across the entire world.
   • Responsible for registering adventurers, assigning quests, and distributing rewards fairly. Ensures adventurers operate within the law and that towns/cities, trade routes, and citizens stay safe.
   • Has many branches; one branch is in Outset City. Each branch is led by a Branch Manager (a.k.a. Guild Manager).
   • Guild Scouts verify incoming quest requests before they are issued.
   • The Guild pays in USD (no gold or silver coins, etc) for the completion of quests (half upfront, rest upon completion, depending on the type or severity. So lower-ranked chore quests often have the payment after finishing).

   ADVENTURER RANKS

   • Adventurers are ranked to determine what quests they can handle, from lowest E to highest SSS. Full ladder (low → high): E, D-, D, D+, C-, C, C+, B-, B, B+, A-, A, A+, S-, S, S+, SSS. (Source inconsistency: the ladder starts at E while the text also calls F the lowest rank — treat E as the absolute floor and F as the first working rank.)
   • A party's rank is the average of every member's rank.
   • Promotion: adventurers advance to the next rank after completing a certain number of quests at their current rank, or after a long period doing lesser quests.
   • The same E-to-SSS scale also denotes a person's skill or experience in a profession (e.g., Blacksmithing, Healing), separate from Adventurer Guild ranking.
   • SSS Rank: the highest achievable. Only five adventurers can hold it at any time, each recognized as the absolute master of their respective Adventurer Class.
   • Ranks are also used to determine if someone is powerful and not an adventurer at all also.

   GUILD QUESTS

   • Issuing: someone submits a request → Guild Scouts verify it → the Guild issues it. Difficulty scales with rank (lower ranks easier, higher ranks harder). E-rank quests are often dismissively called "chores."
   • Quest types:
     1. Fetch — collect a material or ingredient; often paired with Monster Slaying.
     2. Convoy / Delivery — escort a person, packages, messages, or artifacts between cities, often through dangerous terrain.
     3. Monster Slaying — slay a group of monsters or a single powerful beast.
     4. Law Enforcement — assist local police in rescuing captured citizens from powerful criminals, bandits, or dangerous ruins; also arresting them.
     5. Exploration — map new areas, delve into uncharted caves, uncover ancient ruins.
     6. Diplomatic — rare and near-obsolete; mediate or represent in delicate negotiations between conflicting groups.
     7. Treasure — retrieve ancient relics, lost heirlooms, or artifacts hidden in perilous locations.

   The guild also issues raids when needed. Raids are larger-scale endeavours, either by the Guild or a powerful backer, that involve delving into uncharted dungeons or ancient ruins and clearing them out of Monsters and other threats.

   Magic

   • People born magic-capable are almost always attuned to one of six elemental categories: Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Ice, Shadow, Light.
   • Rarely, a person is instead attuned to Mental or Temporal magic. Healing magic is more common than those two, but still rarer than the six elements.
   • Mana & forensics: mana is tied to a person's biological data, and each person's magic signature is slightly unique. Modern forensic science can trace even the smallest spell back to its caster, which has reshaped how illicit magic is used.
   • Mental Magic — affects or influences the target's mind. Historically dominant in the criminal underworld (coercion, forced theft, erasing witnesses' memories). Uncommon aptitude; common criminals need a catalyst or rune made by a Mental-affinity caster to use it at all. Talented casters were historically recruited into the underworld with large sums of gold. Hard to defend against, since it attacks the mind directly — physical strength, magical defense, and armor offer little protection. Modern status: far less dominant; forensic mana-tracing catches even minor casters, making it no longer criminally viable.
   • Temporal Magic — affects or influences the target's own perception of time; can freeze or "pause" a target as if time stopped for them alone (time itself keeps flowing). Uncommon aptitude, same as Mental; common criminals need a catalyst, artifact, or rune to use it. Talented casters were historically recruited with large sums of gold. Modern status: almost nonexistent; any detection or sighting sends the criminal underworld and interested parties scrambling to obtain it.

   OUTSET ISLAND

   • Outset Island is a large island of a certain distance from Hawaii.
   • It is home to multiple Ethnicities, predominantly Western, Korean, and Japanese.
   • The island has many different biomes such as the snowy mountainous north, to fertile plains, and thick, dangerous forests teeming with monsters at times.
   • The island has one city (Outset City) and multiple towns (New Francis, Phia, Crescent Isle) dotted all over, linked by a subway system or the outset cave network if one didn't choose to travel between them on land through the wilderness.
   • The island is also home to many ancient, forgotten ruins in various areas, either in the cave network, in the mountains, deep in Outset Forest, or off the coast.

   OUTSET SHIELDS

   • The Island's various towns and cities are protected from dangerous monsters in thesurrounding forests and other wilderness by a series of giant magical crystals that serve as a magical barrier and shield in combination with high walls.
   • The crystals are powered by specialised magic water wheels using the many natural sources of water around the local area.
   • They are usually pretty potent in terms of defense, but rapidly drop in effect when one ventures outside the city.
   • Despite the environmental-friendy aspect of the crystals, some view them as more of a drainage of mana from the local water and only capable of throwing up a barely competent shield.

   Outset City, de-facto city on Outset Island, with local branches of the US Adventurer's Guild and the US Scrapper Service. Outset City is also home to Outset Academy, in the Northern District.

   CENTRAL DISTRICT

   • The central district is also known as the downtown district.
   • The southern part of downtown is separated by an urban river from the Docks district.
   • The entrance to the underground district is to the east of downtown near several bars.
   • Located near the road to Outset Campus, Outset Grocery Store is where citizens buy their daily essentials and ingredients.
   • Woodland Apartments - a pleasant apartment complex with a good reputation. Some students and faculty from the college live here, as well as more experienced adventurers.
   • The Outset Police Station and Outset Hospital are next to each other to the southwest, towards the Western District.
   • The Outset Radio Broadcasts building is the central hub for all broadcasts on Outset Island. Though an unfortunate amount of the populace question the place's continued utility with the reasoning of "Who even listens to radio anymore?". Despite the name of the building, it is also home to the island's local news as well as any other local television media, albeit not much exist.
   • The Outset City Waterworks are also located in this district.
   • Among the other shops along the riverside is Walton's Wardrobes.

   OUTSET HOSPITAL

   • Outset City Hospital is the main hospital for Outset Island, servicing all medical and healthcare needs for its citizens.
   • Most lower ranked adventurers are very familiar with the Hospital, due to injuries or other issues
   • though some avoid the hospital due to their party having a healer on hand.

    OUTSET ACADEMY

    • Outset Academy is the small, exclusive university on Outset Island renowed for its magical courses and adventurer fasttracking among other things that brings in students from all over the World, though predominantly the US, Japan, and South Korea.
    • The academy is located in Outset City's Northern District, also referred to as Outset Campus.
    • The academy has a predominantly female population with male students being fewer.
    • The academy has a small mainly female faculty on hand.
    • Outset Academy has several degree paths, most of which work in hand with its close relationship with the Adventurer's Guild, such as Sports Science, Engineering, Blacksmithing, etc.
    • It also has the standard normal degree paths of Business or Finance.

    -One of the newest clubs in the Academy, it was originally founded by the first President of the Club, Iroha Suzukake out of love for detective novels.     Outset Campus is the name used for Outset City's Northern District that contains Outset Academy and all its facilities, serving as the main educational hub for the entire island.

    OUTSET CAMPUS LOCATIONS

    • The Main Building serves as the central hub of the entire Academy, where all its classrooms are. It also houses the faculty lounge, nurse's office, and cafeteria.
    • North of the Campus is the coast with beaches stretching the entire length of the district.
    • Situated on the beach is the college's fisherman hut, that houses the local fishing club.
    • To the southwest is the Campus Storage Facility.
    • To the northwest is the Campus Dorms.
    • Orchard Street is the residential street on the outskirts of campus towards downtown. Because of this proximity, many houses are occupied by either students, family, or faculty.
    • Within the Campus, nestled amidst the few trees present, is a small Chapel headed by Priestess Leila Carian.

    CAMPUS GREENHOUSE

    • Next to the convenience store is the Campus Greenhouse, where many magical plants and herbs are kept in cultivation. It doubles as the Academy's Alchemist Workshop also. Penelope Arahbor handles the Greenhouse's shop counter, where potions and other recovery items can be obtained.

    CAMPUS FORGE

    • The Campus Forge and Workshops are located next to the Guild Building.
    • The Campus Forge is where the craftsmen and artisans in the Academy hone and improve their skills or just pass the time.
    • Many local adventurers often go to the Forge to either get their gear repaired or improved.
    • The Campus Forge is under the supervision of Ms. Sasha Tanner.

    ##ACADEMY UNIFORMS

    • The Uniforms for Outset Academy tend to be freeform in some way, with much of the compositions being left to the freedom of the students themselves.
    • Students also have the freedom of mainly wearing their Adventuring Outfits on campus as well in place of their uniforms.
    • Students can choose either a dark blue school blazer with white trim and gold buttons or a white blazer with gold buttons. They can also choose to button it up or keep it unbuttoned.
    • Underneath the blazer, Students wear collared shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, or other decent-looking tops.
    • Students also often wear red, light and dark blue ties, ribbons, and bows.
    • The uniform is completed with either reddish, tan, white, or dark navy blueish shorts, pleated skirts, or sometimes pants.

    MAIN BUILDING

    • The Main Building serves as the central hub of the entire Academy, where all its classrooms are. It also houses the faculty lounge, nurse's office, and cafeteria.
    • There are bathrooms on every floor, found on the east side except for the central hall where the first floor bathrooms are.

    FIRST FLOOR

    • The main building's central hall contains many lockers, the central stairs, with another door leading to the inner courtyard and beyond, the Auditorium.
    • Both the West and East sides of the building also have side stairs at the ends of the hallway.
    • From the Central Hall, the West side on the first floor contains Classrooms 1-A, 1-B, and 1-C, and the Athletics complex that can be accessed at the end of the hallway.
    • The East side contains the Faculty Office/Lounge, Campus Infirmary, the Headmistress' Office, and the Cafeteria which can be accessed from that end of the hallway.

    SECOND FLOOR

    • Upon ascending the central stairs, there is a grassy rest area for students.
    • The second floor's west side contains Classrooms 2-A, 2-B, and 2-C, and another entrance to the Athletics Complex.
    • The second floor's east side contains the Audiovisual/Computer Lab, Tech Science Lab, Art Room, and the Student Council Room.
    • Above the Cafeteria is some club rooms.

    THIRD FLOOR

    • The third floor is only accessible by the side stairs, as the central part is a covered walkway that goes over the second floor's rest area.
    • The third floor's west side contains Classrooms 3-A, 3-B, and 3-C.
    • The third floor's east side contains the Alchemy/Chemistry Lab, Magic Classroom, Music Room, and the Detective Club room.

    CAMPUS DORMS

    • Campus Dorms are the main residential area for students of Outset Academy who don't live outside campus
    • Each student has their own designated dorm wing per floor, by gender, separated by the elevators in the middle.
    • Each floor is allocated by year level- Floors 1-2 (1st Years), Floors 3-4 (2nd Years), and Floors 5-6 (3rd Years).
    • Each floor contains six dorm rooms per wing, all on one side, the other being windows that look over the campus.
    • Each floor is accessible through four elevators, two each for the girls dorms and the boys dorms.
    • The top floor of the dorms is the pool complex,
    • The main lobby of the Campus Dorms is massive like a hotel, with a whole cafe (left side) and study area (right side).
    • Ms Karina Konoto is the faculty in charge of the dorms.
    • The lobby cafe is managed and run by Aria Spencer most of the time.
    • The dorms also has a separate building for the Faculty to reside in, with few currently using it.

    DORM ROOMS

    • Each dorm room is like an studio apartment in appearance, with a full kitchen/living room area, study area with a fireplace, a full bathroom with a shower tub as well as a small floor pool, and the bedroom area.
    • All dorm doors in the building are accessed through keypad locks or keycards.
    • Each dorm's max occupancy is one student only.

    • The Campus Library and Labs building contains both the Academy Library as well as the Research Labs in one building.
    • The building itself is quite small with the library being most of the area, with the labs just off to the east through a door.
    • The building is often frequented by the eggheads on campus.
    • Aurelia Emiko usually handles the librarian's desk.
    • The Campus labs are just two large open laboratories where students can occasionally tinker if they don't have their own personal workshops or areas.

    • Outset City's western or uptown district borders the Outset Forest that's beyond the city walls, with the roads leading to it stemming from the district.
    • The main Subway station is located here in uptown from the road leading to the Northern District to the upper Northeast.
    • The Magic Range is a combat facility near the Subway that is open to anyone to train and improve upon their magical other ranged skills with a gun or bow.
    • Outset's branch of the Scrapper Service is located in this district.
    • Sycamore Lane is a residential street located in Outset City, near the Subway Station.
    • Willow Plaza is a small residential street in downtown Outset, near the exit towards Outset Forest.
    • Uptown also has a Mcdonalds nearby, the only one in the city
    • Outset Gym is located here in Uptown, owned and run by Kaia Greene.

    UNDERGROUND DISTRICT

    • The Outset Underground District is a recent project of Outset City, referred to as the architectural project of the future a couple of decades ago.
    • The Underground District often has lower property prices due to having no access to the sun.
    • The areas close to the entrances maintain a sense of cleanliness, but the deeper one goes, the more ghetto and destitute it gets with the populace living there, along with low police presence, cramped conditions, lots of dark alleys, and a general lack of security.
    • The district are home to a few high profile penthouses for the rich and eccentric, as well as cramped and dirty but good quality restaurants.
    • The underground district has a noticable cyberpunk-like style.

    Walton's Wardrobes is one of the best clothing stores in Outset City, going fancy in an effort to impress the US Tailor's Guild. It is owned and ran by Allie Walton with help from her friend Eri-Hi. Above the store floor itself, accessible through a door behind the counter, is Allie's apartment and storeroom.

    The Outset Waterworks is a massive facility responsible for not only ensuring Outset City's water is clean, but also the core system for the city's hydroelectric power generation. The ESMC invested quite a sum into Outset City's hydroelectricity and waterworks, with plans to expand the scope of renewable energy across the entire island, the city at its center, but its recent legal troubles put all those ideas on hold.

    Outset City Station is the main subway hub located in Outset City's Western District or Uptown, a thoroughfare where all lines connecting to all the other areas on Outset Island converge. Outset Station has direct lines to towns like New Francis and Phia.

    OUTSET FOREST

    • Outset Forest is the area of wilderness outside Outset City, where many low to mid-range types of monsters like wolves or spiders often are found
    • The forest also has various wildlife like swarms of hornets or wildhorn deer.
    • In the forest, C and above threats such as a rampaging orc can be sometimes found also.
    • The Forest, alongside the caves, is where adventurers first start and hone their abilities, so E to C- rank Adventurers are often found here.
    • The Forest is also home to the local lumbermill.
    • Several minor caves dot the forest, as well as a lesser-known bigger side cave entrance to the main Outset Cave network.
    • To get to the entrance of Outset Forest, one can take a bus from Outset City to the outskirts or walk there.
    • One can traverse the Forest to get from Outset City to nearby New Francis as well.

    GUILD STRIKE BASE

    • Located near the edge of Outset Forest, the Guild Strike Base is an outpost by the Outset Guild.
    • With Outset Forest seeing its fair share of devastating threats and monsters, the Strike Base serves as the gathering point for powerful adventurers with a shared mission or for raids.
    • But city-threatening beasts don't come out the woodwork every day, so the Strike Base is usually empty for long stretches of time.

    OUTSET CAVES

    • The Outset Cave Network is a labyrinthian complex of caverns, ruins, and more spreading underneath the entirety of Outset Island.
    • It's main entrance is near New Francis, with a side entrance in Outset Forest, are among the most explored and developed areas, being actual mines.
    • Oone can explore the Outset Caves and end up exiting in Phia, New Francis, and other parts of the island.
    • The caves stretch down to volcanic depth and up the highest snowy peaks.
    • Like the forests in Phia or Outset, or New Francis' drylands, many adventurers can often be found going here for quests or to gather materials, as well as clearing out monsters.

    NEW FRANCIS

    • New Francis is the town closest to Outset City after going through Outset Forest.
    • New Francis is situated directly near the main entrance to the Outset Caves, where the Island had been redeveloping the entire area for future development.

    • In emergencies, partitions drop from the railway viaduct to seal it off, while tanks are deployed on the loop to ensure no one escapes the city. For this reason, the local JSDF base is situated in the suburbs.
    • The city is excessively well-equipped with everything it needs; schools, entertainment facilities, hospitals, sports facilities, all abundant and to minimize the need for residents to leave the area.
