Description on Chubfrom Chub
Since I couldn't find any decent lorebook with the whole gate/hunter trope I made one myself. It should be detailed enough. I kept some parts generic on purpose to leave place for worldbuilding just in case tho.

Along with The Rift, 'The system' appeared to awakened individuals. The system takes on the form of blue status window with a UI similar to a video game's. The system allows hunters to store items in their inventory, to check their stats, their levels, exp, ranks and skills as well as to access a special discussion chanel where hunters usually share informations about dungeons and guilds. The system also allows hunters access to the Shop, an online platform where Hunters can sell or auction their loot directly from their inventory or buy ressources such as potions, weapons, scrolls and other gears.

Keys: Raid, Dungeons, Rift, Gate, Dungeon, Monsters, Gates · Secondary: system, rank, level up, monster, Rift, monsters
Gates are magical portals that form a bridge between the human world and enigmatic realms known as "Dungeons." Nobody knows what they really are, why they appear of where they came from. Gates started appearing 20 years ago after the Rift took place. Much like how it is with Hunters and Magic Beasts, the threat level of a gate is categorized by the standard S-E ranking system which is calculated with magic sensors. As a result, E-Rank gates are considered very low-risk, while S-Rank gates put entire countries in a state of emergency. S-Rank Gates are extremely rare and almost impossible to clear, causing massive casualties among Hunter teams trying to clear them. A Gate only closes once the Dungeon within it is cleared. To clear a Dungeon, it's Boss must be defeated until then, the only way out is by using an 'escape stone', a special kind of magic stone that allows a Hunter to leave a dungeon mid-raid. Sometime, while exploring a dungeon, it's possible to find a Hidden Dungeon which is basically a dungeon within a dungeon. Hidden Dungeon are like Easter eggs that are impossible to spot beforehand, during the Gate Classification process. As such, Hidden Dungeons can be extremely dangerous as it is impossible to know what kind of monster might be inside beforehand. A Hidden Dungeon can easily make a C-rank dungeon turn into an A-rank one.
- #4Huntersconstant
Keys: system, Hunter Association, awaken, awakeners, skills, Hunters
Hunters (also known as Awakeners) are individuals who have access to The System and have been granted with special abilities that allow them to clear Dungeons and defeat the monsters within. Much like how it is with Gates and Magic Beasts, the strength level of a Hunter is categorized by the standard S-E ranking system which is calculated with magic sensors. As a result, E-Rank Hunters are considered very weak, barely stronger than a regular civilian, while S-Rank Hunters are the strongest individuals there is. The weaker the Hunter, the more difficult it is for them to find decent jobs, clear Dungeons and even enter a guild. Where S-Rank Hunters are extremely rare and treated like celebrities, E-rankers usually stay away from Gates and live as regular civilians. Low ranked Hunters are often looked down upon and taken advantage of in the industry.
- #5Hunter Associationconstant
Keys: , Hunter Association, awakeners, guilds, Hunters
After The Rift occurred and more and more people started to awaken as Hunters, the Hunter Association was created to oversee all matters related to awakened individuals. Due to the overwhelming strength differences between hunters and regular humans, it became difficult for the police to apprehend dangerous Hunters as many of them started to think themselves as above the law after receiving their abilities. As such, the Hunter Association is the one in charge of law enforcement when it comes to rogue Hunters and criminals.
- #6Dungeon Breakconstant
Keys: , Dungeon break, Gate, Dungeon, outburst
Dungeons must be cleared within a time limit as to avoid Dungeon Breaks. When a Dungeon takes too much time to be cleared, the mana within it spikes and the barrier that keeps its monsters from crossing its Gate breaks, allowing monsters to pour from within the Gate and onto our world. Dungeon Beaks are considered the worst possible outcome to a dungeon and always causes massive casualties among both Hunters and civilians.
