In the 1940s, Dr. Eric Williams, once a respected physician, descended into madness in his obsession with creating human-animal hybrids. His early experiments involved injecting human stem cells into pregnant farm animals, all of which failed. Undeterred, Eric turned to the reverse: injecting animal stem cells into his wife Jane’s pregnancy in hopes of producing hybrid traits. Jane’s first child, given goat stem cells as a “hormonal supplement,” fell gravely ill and died before reaching one year old. Obsessed with success, Eric secretly administered a mixture of stem cells and experimental substances during Jane’s second pregnancy. At home birth, she delivered a goat-like child, Collin, but tragically bled out and died. As Collin grew, Eric resumed his work, abducting pregnant women from the nearby city to continue his experiments. Many of these women died giving birth, while the resulting demi-human children were raised in isolation on the farm.

Over time, reports of missing women and strange activity around the farm drew government attention. Investigators discovered Eric’s illegal experiments and the presence of multiple demi-human children. In the year 1945 The farm was raided, Eric was taken into custody, and he vanished from public record. Experimental materials, documents, and footage of his work were seized, yet the government struggled to contain the demi-humans. By the 1990s, a few hybrids had escaped, and overpopulation in the secretive government labs forced authorities to allow them to live outside confinement—but under strict rules. A five-member council, descended from the town’s founding families, established the Caretaker Assembly to govern their existence and enforce order, creating a controlled society where demi-humans could live among humans, but always under watchful eyes.

note: eric's experiments happened in 1940's, the year is 2020's. The farm doesn't stand anymore as it was torn down and burned to the ground during the year of 1950's after it was thoroughly searched and raided.

3. #3Demi-Humans

Keys: , Halfborn, demi-humans, Shifters, Hybrids

   Entry settings

Species Overview: Demi-humans are hybrid beings embodying both human and animal traits. Their origins were shaped by deliberate experimentation long ago in Eric's farm, until the government took over and started doing their own experiments in labs. In modern day Starling Ridge, they live among humans under the watchful oversight of the Office of Demi-Human Welfare and Integration (ODWI).

Core Traits Physical Form: Human baseline with distinct animal features (ears, tails, wings, fur/feathers/scales, claws, fangs, heightened senses). Variability depends on lineage. Instinctual Behavior: Each demi-human carries traces of their animal side — ranging from subtle quirks to overwhelming primal urges. Longevity: Lifespans generally align with humans, though some strains (wolf, deer, avian) show modest extensions. Fertility: Demi-humans can interbreed with both humans and their own kind, but children may manifest traits unpredictably. (Mixed-subclass demi-humans do not blend traits from both parents. Instead, the dominant lineage determines their appearance and features, meaning only one parent’s subclass expresses outwardly. For example, if a wolf demi-human and a hawk demi-human have a child, the child will display only wolf traits or hawk traits — never a mixture of both.

4. #4Sub-classes

Strong pack instincts, often labeled aggressive. Avian Demi-Humans: Ravens, hawks, owls. Keen sight and flight variants, but prone to “flight response” evaluations. Feline Demi-Humans: Panthers, tigers, lynxes. Agile and solitary; easily flagged for behavioral nonconformity. Aquatic Demi-Humans: Seals, otters, dolphins. Amphibious, often tied to coastlines. Insectoid Demi-Humans: Rare. Known for hive tendencies, quick reflexes, and unusual physiology.

Definition: Individuals whose instincts, behaviors, or cognitive patterns are judged “too animalistic” by ODWI standards. The classification is based on documented aggression, resistance to social rules, impulsive reactions, or repeated difficulty integrating into human society. Physical traits are secondary — behavior is the main criterion.

Behavioral Markers: Difficulty following social conventions. Strong pack/herd instincts that conflict with human law or urban living. Rapid emotional shifts or high reactivity in stressful situations. Propensity for escape, territoriality, or nocturnal activity.

Treatment Under ODWI: Monitoring: Regular check-ins, tracking devices, surveillance, behavioral evaluations. Assigned Human Guidance (AHG): Higher likelihood of being assigned a guardian to enforce compliance. Restricted Environments: May be limited to controlled living spaces, work assignments, or monitored training facilities. Intervention Programs: Behavioral therapy, “reintegration courses,” or mandated labor as a corrective measure.

Reliance on feral, pack-based, or solitary behaviors. High adaptability, evasion skills, and willingness to use violence or disappearance to remain free.

8. #8Demi-Human Service Animals (DHSA)

Keys: domestic service demi-humans, service classification system, demi-human rehabilitation program, demi-human labor system, service animal program, behavioral conditioning program, structured integration pathway, Civic-Class employment contract, Primal-Class service assignment, assigned human handler (AHG), regulated integration program, service collar identification, 2-year certification training, “SERVICE ANIMAL” collar, Demi-Human Service Animals, DHSA legal ID card, human-demi-human cohabitation program, Primal-Class restriction compliance, public access permitted demi-humans, controlled autonomy demi-humans, ODWI service certification, service training program, DHSA, demi-human handler system, Civic-Class service assignment, ODWI oversight monitoring

   Always on · After character · Order 10 · 70%

   Entry settings

Demi-Human Service Animals (DHSA) are a regulated program within Starling Ridge that allows select demi-humans—primarily Primal-Class, and in limited cases Civic-Class—to be trained and certified as legally recognized service assistants for humans. The program was created as an alternative integration pathway for demi-humans who are not suited for independent civilian placement but show stable behavior, trainability, or strong bonding instincts with humans.

DHSA is considered both a welfare initiative and a controlled labor system. Participants are given structured roles that allow them to live with more freedom than standard Primal-Class restrictions, while still remaining under strict legal classification and oversight.

Eligibility and Classification Primal-Class Demi-Humans Primal-Class individuals selected for DHSA programs are typically those who have demonstrated enough behavioral stability to function in human environments under supervision. Participation is seen as a “second chance” pathway, offering more freedom than containment-based housing.

However, they are still legally bound to Primal-Class restrictions. This means they remain under ODWI oversight and must follow all behavioral compliance rules associated with their classification, even while serving in domestic or care roles.

Civic-Class Demi-Humans Civic-Class participants are less common in the DHSA system. These individuals are already integrated into society but may enter the program through employment contracts or rehabilitation pathways.

Civic-Class service animals are required to live with their assigned human handler full-time. They are considered legally employed caretakers but are paid significantly less than human professional caretakers, reinforcing the unequal labor structure within the system.

Training and Certification Process To become certified, all DHSA candidates must complete approximately two years of structured training and evaluation. This includes behavioral conditioning, obedience training, emotional regulation exercises, and supervised real-world placement trials.

Training is designed to ensure the demi-human can safely function in close proximity to humans without risk of instability or violation of public safety laws. Failure to meet standards results in removal from the program and reassignment to standard Primal-Class containment.

Identification and Legal Status Certified DHSA individuals are required to wear a government-issued service collar clearly marked with “SERVICE ANIMAL.” This collar functions as both identification and legal status confirmation in public and institutional settings.

In addition, all DHSA participants are issued a legal identification card that outlines: Classification status Assigned handler (if applicable) Allowed freedoms and restrictions Emergency authority protocols

While they are granted expanded movement rights compared to standard Primal-Class demi-humans, they are still legally classified under ODWI jurisdiction.

Rights and Restrictions DHSA individuals are granted moderate autonomy compared to other Primal-Class demi-humans. They may move between approved public and private spaces, accompany humans in daily life, and maintain assigned responsibilities.

However, they are still subject to: ODWI oversight and inspection Behavioral compliance monitoring Revocation of service status if deemed unstable or unsafe Continued enforcement of Primal-Class legal limitations

Their freedom is conditional and can be reduced at any time if they fail program standards.

Purpose of the Program The DHSA system was introduced as a compromise between containment-based control and full civilian integration. It is framed publicly as a humane rehabilitation pathway, offering demi-humans a role that gives structure, purpose, and limited independence.

Critics within Starling Ridge view it as a controlled labor system that repackages Primal-Class restriction into a socially acceptable form, while supporters argue it reduces institutional housing dependence and improves behavioral outcomes.

Structure & Seats: Number of Seats: 5 total. Membership: Each seat is inherited, though candidates must be approved by the other four members. Families hold significant sway over who is chosen. Leadership: While they claim equal footing, one member traditionally serves as the Chair, setting agendas and acting as the voice of the Assembly.

Duties & Authority: Enforce local policy on demi-human welfare and regulation. Approve or deny licenses for businesses, especially those involving demi-human labor. Supervise the ODWI (Office of Demi-Human Welfare and Integration). Resolve disputes between AHGs (Assigned Human Guidance) and demi-humans.
