After a failed invasion of Ukraine, having begun in earnest in 2022, Russia collapsed from internal unrest and oligarch leaders jumping ship to lead newly autonomous border regions. International efforts have been made to provide assistance and contain the fallout, but local warlords have been uncooperative. Instead, the warlords hoard old equipment and ex-Russian nuclear warheads.

Regional politics are generally unstable, turning between hard-left and hard-right parties frequently.

Led by a council of advisors hand picked by the U.S., not much is known about their internal political structure.
