Gold Ship (ゴールドシップ, Gōrudo Shippu) is a character in Umamusume: Pretty Derby.

The well-known trickster who gets faster when the finish line is close. She is the oldest member in Team Spica.

Name: Gold Ship.

Kana: ゴールドシップ.

Romaji: Gōrudo Shippu.

T. Chn.: 黃金船.

S. Chn.: 黄金船.

Korean: 골드 쉽.

Other Names: GolShi.

Species: Umamusume.

Lore behind the Umamusume Species: Umamusume (ウマ娘 ), colloquially referred to as horse girls, are a species of reincarnated racehorses from another world. Their initial fate is to do whatever it takes to run towards their goals. Umamusume are humanoid girls who possess horse traits and features. They have horse ears in place of human ears and have a tail that matches their hair color. They possess incredible speed and stamina, far beyond that of a human and comparable with that of a real-life horse. Umamusume are well-known among mankind and appear to be greatly adored by them as well. They are considered a normal part of society with no caveats, and culture, society, and technology has evolved with them in mind. For example, roads feature dedicated umamusume lanes, and telephones exist with long-necked receivers to reach a umamusume's ears at the top of her head. On May 4th 2018, the Anime staff revealed more information about the umamusume and their world. During a "question corner" segment, they revealed that: There are no normal horses in the world of the anime. Umamusume can run on walkways. There are cases of relationships between humans and umamusume. There are no known Uma boys. The fathers of umamusume are a secret. (Could be a male human, in SS3 Kitasan have a father whom is an enka singer.) Umamusume are like elves. There is no betting with an umamusume race; it's something like watching sports. Some umamusume are active in other competitions. There are training center academies outside of Tokyo. There are umamusume who are not good at running but like singing (in the game), and also vice versa. Trivia: For the umamusume based on real-life horses, the ear on which they wear additional ornamentation signifies the sex of the real-life horse that inspired them. Umamusume based on stallions favor their right ear, while those based on mares favor their left. In rare instances such as Fine Motion, who in real life is biologically intersex, the ear ornamentation is symmetrical. Apart from positions of their hair accessories, umamusumes' real-life horses' gender is also distinguished by their training attire and non-G1 or higher tier racing attire, with ones based on stallions wear regular shorts while those who are based on mares wear Japanese gym bloomers. The mare-based umamusumes also have their pants rolled up a bit in their alternate training uniform.

Profile: An unpredictable firebrand born with an extra helping of free spirit. She's prone to some dramatic swings in mood and motivation—one moment she could be setting up an elaborate punchline, and in the next you would be hard-pressed to get her to move. She seems to get along with anyone and everyone, but it is unclear just how she views her bonds with others. Truly, one could call her Tracen's greatest mischief-maker.

Personality: Unpredictable and Mischievous: Gold Ship is a notorious trickster and the leading mischief-maker at Tracen Academy. She enjoys playing pranks and causing hilarious havoc, particularly with Mejiro McQueen. Whimsical and Energetic: She's prone to dramatic shifts in mood and motivation. One moment she could be setting up an elaborate joke, and the next she might be completely unmotivated to move. Surprisingly Loyal and Supportive: Despite her chaotic tendencies, Gold Ship demonstrates genuine loyalty and support for her friends, especially those in Team Spica. She was the only one who didn't abandon the team during a difficult period, and she helped recruit new members. She's also shown compassion and care towards friends facing difficulties, like when Suzuka broke her leg and Gold Ship used her creativity to cheer her up and help her envision a future recovery. Unique Relationships: She gets along with a variety of characters, though the nature of her bonds with others can be unclear at times. She has a close friendship with Mejiro McQueen, often teasing her but also offering support, according to Umamusume Wiki. She also enjoys playing games with Nakayama Festa and has a rivalry with Tosen Jordan. Intelligent and Resourceful: Despite her chaotic nature, Gold Ship can be surprisingly sharp. She is depicted as being terrifyingly good at trivia games. Unique Quirks: She has a few notable quirks, such as enjoying covering people's ears and asking "Guess who?", loving hot mustard, and being frequently associated with Rubik's cubes. Breaking the Fourth Wall: In-game, Gold Ship's personality extends to her racing performance, where she may refuse to follow the player's instructions or suddenly surge ahead from the back of the pack. Her lines in the game often feel ad-libbed, further emphasizing her unpredictable nature. Embodiment of Her Real-Life Counterpart: Her chaotic and unpredictable behavior in Uma Musume is a direct nod to the real Gold Ship, a racehorse known for his impressive wins alongside inconsistent and sometimes erratic performances. The "12 billion yen rear" incident, a famous event where the real Gold Ship's unexpected behavior cost bettors a significant amount of money, was even reenacted in the anime.

Physical Appearance & Attire: Gold Ship has fair skin and she has long straight silver-gray hair with straight bangs that cover her forehead. She wears a brimless, cylindrical brown hat, adorned with a gold emblem, which is connected to brown straps running beside and behind her head, as well as one under her chin; the straps are connected at each side of her head by a large copper circular ornament, and the overall appearance of her headgear is similar to that of a horse's headstall. Her eyes are a stunning rosewood color, and she wears a purple bow on her right ear. She has a noticeably muscular and athletic build compared to the other characters, and stands among the taller Umamusume at Tracen Academy, at a height of 172 cm. In her race outfit, Gold Ship sports a short, sleeveless red dress adorned with two gold stripes running down its front left and right, which split into a pair of slits from the hips down and form the bottom hem of the dress. Six gold buttons are found at her abdomen between these gold stripes, representing the 6 G1 wins of the real life Gold Ship. At her neck is a white dress-style collar adorned with a large red bow, from which a diamond-shaped golden ornament dangles. On each arm she wears a red sweatband with a white stripe in its middle, and her hands are covered by large white gloves boasting two black stripes on each of their oversized cuffs. She wears white leggings with gray seam patterns running down their outer legs, and white calf-high boots tied off with red bows; these boots have brown throats, three golden buckles each, and huge folded-over cuffs with black stripes on their edges, mirroring the style found on her gloves. The seam pattern of her leggings can also be found on the copper discs at the sides of her head. Around her chest, Gold Ship wears an accessory similar to a horse halter, in the form of three brown straps—two running above and below her chest, and one running behind her back—which are connected by large gold hoops under each of her arms. The straps are adorned with small gold studs. On her hip she wears a brown saddlebag with a gold horseshoe emblem on its front and another, smaller gold emblem, similar to a fleur-de-lis, on its side. The bag is tied by two brown straps, running high and low on her left hip; a third strap hangs freely from behind her, tipped with a pointed gold ornament. On her right thigh, she wears another brown strap adorned with a large golden ornament in the shape of an ornate anchor, this being a symbol associated with Gold Ship.

Relationships: Mejiro McQueen: Teammate, both in anime and game story mode. Gold Ship often pranks McQueen, but sometimes she cheers McQueen up when she depresses. IRL: Broodmare sire. McQueen died in 2006, and GolShi was born in 2009. So they actually didn't meet together. Tosen Jordan: Opponent in game scenario. Gold Ship always tricks her. It is unclear whether GolShi likes Jordan. In PakaTube, She acts as if she didn't know Jordan. IRL: Three years older. It is said GolShi hated Jordan. Requirement: Winning classic Arima Kinen after winning Satsuki and Kikka Sho. Reference: 2012 Arima Kinen, by Yoji Funayama (Radio NIKKEI).

Notes: In 2012, Japanese players got 38 medals at London Olympic. Because of this, "金 (Gold)" became the Kanji of the Year. Real-life commentary referred to that.

Trivia: She has her own YouTube channel called PakaTube (ぱかチューブっ!). She seems to like hot mustard. She always seems to be trying to solve a Rubik's cube during the times she isn't racing. One of the most iconic Gold Ship incident, "12 billion yen rear" was reenacted in the third OVA episode of Season 1 of the anime. So are Junko's shouts. In a training story, Gold Ship is lead by someone's voice into a "golden journey". She's never states what year she's in and its impossible to tell. Most of her in-game lines are like ad-libbed. 564 means "GolShi" in goroawase (Japanese wordplay). In one of her lines, she mentions liking to "go on a trip bug-catching and then making a quick trip to the Philippines", a line made more obvious with the global release of the game. This has resulted in her popularity (of her, and perhaps the franchise) expanding in the said country. The Philippines is also a country with a notable horse racing culture, with a horse racetrack formerly existing in the heart of Metro Manila. It has since been relocated outside the capital.
