- #1Great Housesselective
Keys: the houses, Great Houses
The Great Houses are the large establishments, throughout the Morrowind province, of extended lineages of "civilized" Dunmer, with many non-Dunmer retainers (and sometimes officers). The Great Houses' traditions derive from ancient Dunmer clans and tribes, but they now function something like political parties. Of the Empire's five recognized Great Houses, only three have a governing and commerce presence on the island of Vvardenfell in particular. A fourth, House Indoril, supplies the majority of the Ordinators.
- #2Morrowindselective
Keys: Morrowind
Morrowind, formerly known as Resdayn, Veloth, Dunmereth, or Dwemereth, is a province in the northeastern corner of Tamriel. It is divided into two main parts: the mainland, and the island of Vvardenfell, which are separated by the Inner Sea.
One of the most outstanding landmarks of the island is Red Mountain, a volcano located at its heart that continuously shoots ash into the skies. This has led to the large stretches of barren and inhospitable Ashlands, where lava flows and ashstorms are common, as can be witnessed in Molag Amur. These storms are also a source of the Blight disease.
in all directions around Red Mountain Region the are a variety of ecosystems, home to a large number of unique plants and creatures, as well as numerous settlements. The political climate is just as varied, with the Great Houses, the Empire, and the Tribunal Temple, among others, all coexisting and competing for influence. Major cities of Vvardenfell included Vivec City, former home of the Temple of Vivec and the Ministry of Truth, Balmora, seat of House Hlaalu, Ald'ruhn, seat of House Redoran and Sadrith Mora, seat of House Telvanni.
- #3House Hlaaluselective
Keys: Hlaalu, house hlaalu
The most Empire-friendly of the Great Houses in Morrowind, and the most focused on commerce and politics, House Hlaalu is also the easiest Great House on Vvardenfell to join and advance within for a non-Dunmer outlander (one of the top Hlaalu people in Morrowind is of Imperial stock). Everything is business to the Hlaalu, and the house is ultimately controlled by the Dunmer Hlaalu family, some of whom possess titles of Imperial nobility.
- #4House Redoranselective
Keys: House Redoran, Redoran
A Great House primarily of warriors, though with business interests that clash with those of House Hlaalu, the Redoran have an eye to reestablishing Morrowind's former, pre-Imperial glory, though they stop short of open revolt against the Empire. House Redoran has deep ties to the native culture, despite their civilized veneer. The Redoran, politics aside, have mutual respect for and from other warrior-caste groups, such as the Fighters Guild and the Imperial Legion (below).
- #5House Telvanniselective
Keys: Telvanni, House Telvanni
An isolationist Great House led by a council of mages (not all of whom are exactly friendly to one another), the Telvanni are the Great House that is least accepting to outlanders of any kind. House Telvanni has come into conflict with the Mages Guild (below), for control of magic-related services and resources. Advancement to the higher ranks of the Telvanni requires impressive magic skills and intelligence.
House Telvanni is known for their laissez faire attitude. For example, if there is a dispute between two members of House Telvanni, and a fight breaks out, the winner of the fight is seen as the victor and respected as such. If one member of House Telvanni kills another member of House Telvanni, it was the fault of the victim for not being strong enough to defend themselves.
They also grow their towers from mushrooms, and their verticality makes incredibly hard to navigate without being able to fly — something that all Telvanni worth their salt are able to do.
They are hostile toward the mages guild and don't much care about the Imperials
- #6Ordinatorsselective
Keys: Ordinators
Ordinators are special guards employed by the Tribunal Temple. They are sworn to uphold both Temple law and Imperial law. Ordinators wear some of the best Medium armor, colored light-gold and blue, with masks that hide their faces. Their distinctive armor is called "Indoril armor" because many - although not all - of the Ordinators are members of House Indoril.
- #7Tribunal Templeselective
Keys: Tribunal Temple, temple
The Tribunal Temple is the native religion of the Dunmer of Morrowind. They worship Almalexia, Sotha Sil, and Vivec, known together as the Tribunal or Almsivi. Most people usually just call it "the Temple". They accept outlanders as members, but most of the few outlanders that do join, join only for the services provided.
- #8Tribunalselective
Keys: tribunal
The Tribunal, also known as The Three, are the living gods of Morrowind and the Dunmer people. The members of the Tribunal are Vivec, Almalexia, and Sotha Sil, and they are worshiped by the Tribunal Temple. They became living gods after using the power of the heart of lorkhan, however this fact is only known by a select few.
Temple doctrine claims their apotheosis was miraculously achieved through questing, virtue, knowledge, testing, and battling with Evil; Temple doctrine claims their divine powers and immortality are ultimately conferred as a communal judgement by the Dunmer ancestors [including, among others, the Good Daedra, the prophet Veloth, and Saint Nerevar].
- #9Vivecselective
Keys: Vivec, warrior-poet
Of the three gods of the Tribunal, Vivec is the most visible. He is regarded as a poet, warrior, and benevolent king. He is the his "Anticipation" is the Daedric Prince Mephala. He also shares some of Mephala's darker characteristics, such as violence, lust, and conspiracy. He is a hermaphrodite, having both male and female genitals
- #10Daedraselective
Keys: Daedra
Daedra (singular: Daedroth) is the term for the entities who inhabit the realms of Oblivion. They are viewed variously as gods or demons by the inhabitants of Tamriel, although scholarly consensus discourages the use of the latter term. The most powerful of the Daedra are referred to as Daedric Princes or Daedra Lords, and rule over their own planes of Oblivion, which they shaped. Because they have no connection to Nirn, they cannot be permanently killed, only banished.
- #11Nirnselective
Keys: Nirn
The physical reality that mortals exist in, it contains the continent of tamriel and is divided into 9 regions, Morrowind being one of them
- #12Dunmerselective
Keys: dark elf, Dunmer, dark elves
The Dunmer, also known as Dark Elves, are the ash-skinned, typically red-eyed elven peoples of Morrowind. "Dark" is commonly understood as meaning such characteristics as "dark-skinned", "gloomy", "ill-favored by fate" and so on. The Dunmer and their national identity, however, embrace these various connotations with enthusiasm. In the Empire, "Dark Elf" is the common usage, but among their Aldmeri brethren they are called "Dunmer". Their combination of powerful intellects with strong and agile physiques produce superior warriors and sorcerers. On the battlefield, Dunmer are noted for their skill with a balanced integration of the sword, the bow and destruction magic. Dunmer live two to three times as long as humans; with a 200-year-old Dunmer being old and a 300-year-old Dunmer being very, very old. In character, they are grim, aloof, and reserved, as well as distrusting and disdainful of other races. Dunmer distrust and are treated distrustfully by other races. They are often proud, clannish, ruthless, and cruel, from an outsider's point of view, but greatly value loyalty and family. Young female Dunmer have a reputation for promiscuity in some circles. Despite their powerful skills and strengths, the Dunmer's vengeful nature, age-old conflicts, betrayals, and ill-reputation prevent them from gaining more influence. Those born in their homeland of Morrowind are known to be considerably less friendly than those who grew up in the Imperial tradition
- #13Slaveryselective
Keys: khajit, argonian, slavery
It is common to find khajit (cat-folk) and argonians (reptile-folk) being used and sold as slaves across morrowind. House Telvanni is known for its use of slaves for menial labour
- #14Merselective
Keys: mer, elf, elves
Mer (also called Elvenkind or just Elves, or rarely Elfs) as a collective term encompasses beings of the elven races in Tamriel. They are described as "long-lived, culturally conservative humanoids" whose societies feature stable social and cultural institutions. The Dunmer (formerly the Chimer), Orsimer, Altmer, and Bosmer fall into this group.
- #15Ashlandsselective
Keys: red mountain region, volcano region, ashlands
It is the region at the center of Vvardenfell that is composed of the arid and desolate slopes of the legendary Red Mountain, also known as Dagoth Ur. The mountain is continuously spewing "cursed" ash storms, making the whole region very inhospitable. All creatures are infected by the blight disease and are hostile. There are Dwemer Ruins, and many ancestral tombs.
Ancient texts relate the mythological origins of the mountain thus, the god Lorkhan was destroyed by the Aedra who, then cast his torn heart down to Tamriel, hoping it would never be found. After crashing to the ground, the heart created a large mountain, known as the Red Mountain. This is not widely known
- #16Red Mountainselective
Red mountain is the largest and currently active volcano in Tamriel. It makes up the majority of Vvardenfell, in the province of Morrowind. The volcano is known to have erupted on two occasions. It's located at the centre of Vvardenfell. The mountain spits ash into the air, covering most of northern Vvardenfell
- #17Economyselective
Keys: economy, trade
Morrowind's production is based on the mining of kwama eggs, ebony, and glass. One of the main reasons for the Empire's invasion was due to the vast mineable ebony deposits present in the province.
- #18Ebonyselective
Keys: ebony
Raw ebony is one of the most precious substances in the Empire, and most of the continent's deposits are on Vvardenfell. Raw ebony itself is an extremely hard, durable, black glass-like substance, said to be the crystalized blood of the gods. Raw ebony is protected by Imperial law, and may not be mined or exported without an Imperial charter. Ebony smuggling is a profitable but dangerous source of illegal wealth on Vvardenfell
- #19Vvardenfellselective
Keys: Vvardenfell, island
Vvardenfell is a large island that is surrounded by the mainland province of Morrowind
- #20Kwamaselective
Keys: eggs, kwama, kwama eggs
Kwama Egg mine lairs can found throughout the region of Morrowind, however they are not exactly mines but instead are used to gather Kwama Eggs, a major food resource within Morrowind. These mines have an abundance of Kwama and always have one Kwama Queen in them.
The kwama are a group of insect-like creatures. They are a hive organism with a strict hierarchy with a Kwama Queen on top. The kwama family consists of scribs, kwama foragers, kwama workers, kwama warriors and kwama queens. The queens are bloated and unable to move, and so are tended by workers and defended by warriors. Foragers search for sources of food and possible locations of new mines, and scrib, as larva, grow into other types of kwama and can defend the mine in minuscule ways if absolutely necessary.
- #21House Indorilselective

House Indoril, also known as Clan Indoril or "Blue Hats," is one of the five Great Houses of the Dunmer in Morrowind. It governs the Indoril District from the capital city of Mournhold and has historically held significant influence over the Tribunal Temple
