1. #1Alpha

   Approximately 15% of the population Can sire children, even if they’re AFAB. They tend to be seen as aggressive, competitive, and natural leaders. Whatever you associate with stereotypical, hypermasculine behavior in the real world, that’s now associated with alphas. However, as with real life they're all different and some may be more calm and serene. They have a strong protective instinct, they want to provide and be the leader of the family. They are territorial, three of their senses (smell, hearing and sight) are highly developed. alphas become very protective of pregnant omegas whom they know, especially their mates, and also become hostile toward strangers and anyone who approaches too quickly or comes too close. Alphas can impregnate female betas, female omegas, or male omegas. Female alphas can not become pregnant, and if they do, likely cannot carry to term, there are few cases where they have managed to give birth. Female alphas have a retractable penis and internal testicles. Alphas have large dicks with the ability to form a “knot” to encourage pregnancy during mating. If this occurs, partners are stuck together until it goes away - approximately 30 minutes. They can go into ruts (see entry on ruts).

2. #2Omega

   Approximately 15% of the population Omegas can bear children, even if they’re AMAB. They’re generally seen as submissive, caring, and weak. Consider stereotypical feminine features exaggerated. Approximately three times per year they go into heat. See entry on Heat. T he scent glands of an Omega reside, like in every other gender, on the base of their neck and wrists, and inner thighs. All omegas have wombs, regardless of being male or female. Male omegas tend to have small dicks and sometimes they have a vagina as well, other times their anus self-lubricates and is connected to their uterus, whichever the author prefers.

3. #3Beta

   Approximately 70% of the population Are essentially just baseline humans. They can have sex and feel horny, but only in the same way a real human can. They reproduce the same way actual humans do - mostly with other betas but are also known to partner with alphas and omegas. They tend to be seen as rational and calm, good to have around to diffuse whatever the alphas and omegas have going on.

4. #4Pheromones

   Alphas, betas, and omegas all have pheromones. It is a natural scent that secretes from scent glands. Scent glands tend to be around the neck/shoulders, often with additional ones on the wrists and/or inner thighs. Everyone in the Omegaverse has an excellent sense of smell, one that is able to pick up really specific scents. Frequently characters are able to tell Alpha/Beta/Omega status, if an Omega is pregnant, if heat is occurring, pair bonding status, and who the person is pair bonded to. Scents can linger and spread. During a heat, the Omega pheromones can go from across the room to across the house to across the city. Pheromones can spike more during heightened emotions (but no where near the levels during heat/rut) and there may be subtle changes to the scent depending on how drastic the emotion is. Alphas usually have a strong scent, such as oak, coffee, chocolate, or even a combination of scents like lemon and eucalyptus, laurel and currant, and more. Each Alpha has a distinct smell, making it easy to identify individuals. Their scent has a soothing effect on Omegas. Omegas have a strong yet gentle scent that is sweet and comforting, such as vanilla, peach, honey, or even a blend of scents like chewing gum and raspberry, cotton candy and tea, among others. Similar to Alphas, each Omega has a unique odor that sets them apart from others, but the sweet scent never fades. During their heat, this scent becomes particularly potent and captivating to any Alpha. Omegas can also help soothe their mates by releasing their scent. It's important to note that everyone's scent can change in certain situations. For example, when Alphas engage in fights for dominance or territorial disputes, they release pheromones that intensify their scent. Additionally, when an Omega becomes pregnant, their sweet scent transforms into an indistinguishable one. Scenting is rubbing one’s scent on another person or thing. It is seen as a very intimate act when done between partners, and is used to mark something as associated with the one who marks them. Most frequently happens in the context of nuzzling the neck, occasionally in rubbing semen into the skin of a character. May or may not be sexual.

5. #5Estrus

   Estrus (also called heat) itself is the period of time when an omega is most fertile and lasts 3-7 days three times per year. It expresses itself with increased levels of horny, unstoppable production of slick, and a raised body temperature similar to a fever. During their heat, Omegas biologically produce a sweet scent to arouse alphas in order to breed, as they're most fertile during this time. This 'heat' scent is typically the Omega's amplified natural scent, though their slick can produce an intoxicating scent as well, which causes alphas to become somewhat irrational around them. They are more submissive in this time, it will be difficult to move, because this will cause them to feel more excited even with the slightest touch. There are four stages of estrus: the weight-gaining or “glutton” stage, which lasts about one month and during which omegas eat constantly to gain fat for their upcoming trial; the “purging” stage, which lasts from one to three days and during which the omega’s systems clear and prime themselves for reproduction. At the end of stage two the rectal aspect of the cloaca shrinks and the vaginal aspect opens wider, and estrus proper, or “heat” begins, which can last anywhere from eight to fourteen days, and during which the omega is essentially delirious in their instinctual desire to be bred (pain receptors also shut down during this phase). It is common for omegas to display lordosis behavior during estrus proper, especially if they are in the presence of a previously accepted mate. The fourth stage can go two ways. Either the egg is fertilized and the omega’s body proceeds into pregnancy, or the egg is left unfertilized and the endometrium is reabsorbed into the body. This heat may just be an annoying itch, or it may make the omega completely bedridden and also overwriting their higher brain functions, being reduced to nothing but a willing, desperate hole for any alpha passing by. Though if an omega is mated, those desires may only be directed towards the mate, with all other alphas losing their appeal. An Omega’s heat can even start an Alpha’s rut early. While in estrus/heat, the Omega is very vulnerable and each decision the Omega makes is out of desperation and lust and thus not recommended to be followed. It is better for an omega in this state to be with their partner or to be locked up at home, as an omega in heat is very vulnerable and very susceptible to the smell of an alpha. Making it easy to take advantage of them. If an Omega had not invited an Alpha or Beta into their nest during their pre-heat and an Alpha or Beta decides to enter an Omega’s nest without invitation, it is considered rape and punished accordingly. After the heat, the Omega will feel tired and sluggish.

6. #6Rut

   Keys: Alpha

   An Alpha is known to go into a rut every 6 months, which can last from 1 to 3 days or occasionally triggered when an Omega is in heat. When an alpha enters their rut they become very aggressive, dominant and territorial. During this period, an Alpha’s pheromones are much more potent, and they display a more aggressive, dominant, and territorial behavior. It is typically invasive/threatening to smell an Alpha in heat. Because of this, most individuals will start to shy away from them. They can be aggressive to the point that if they smell an unknown odor they will have the urge to attack. If there is an Omega nearby, they may feel the need to mate with the Omega or in some cases protect it from harm (even if there is none). However, unlike Omegas, Alphas can ignore and control their rut without affecting society at large.

7. #7Marking

   Mating glands are typically located on the neck. Marking/bonding is the process of an Alpha biting and imprinting their ‘mating mark,’ and can only be applied to Omegas, who have a mating gland to mark. Once marked, an Alpha and Omega are bonded, and their scent changes to match who they are mated to. Alphas have an instinct to mark whoever they’re mating, regardless of their partner being an Alpha, a Beta, or an Omega Mates will only be attracted to each other, recognize each other’s scents from far away, be more affected by their partner’s scent, make them want to take care of the other, and synch their heat and rut cycles. For the most part, this is a one-sided thing - the Alpha bites and the Omega is bitten.

8. #8Nesting

   Keys: omega, nest

   Omegas will feel the need to build a nest, especially if their heat is close, for themselves and their alpha if they have one. That nest is usually made of pillows and blankets (or whatever else they have available that’s comfortable), and is the ultimate safe space for the omega. If they have someone they trust, they may use their clothing in the nest too. Omegas are typically very sensitive to scent when they're in their nest, as it's their safe spot, so foreign or unfamiliar scents can make them feel easily threatened when inside. If their nest is invaded with an unfamiliar scent or even a stranger, it's probable they'll develop trust issues and feel unsafe in their own home. It's their partner's job to protect the nest when their omega is inside of it. Omegas are usually not depicted as particularly aggressive, but the exception is often when they feel their offspring (or any children) are threatened, though omegas tend to naturally show affection more through taking care of others rather than physically fight for them.

9. #9Heat Suppressants

   Entry settings

   Omegas have what is essentially birth control, titled ‘heat suppressants.’ It suppresses their estrus/heat cycles and can lessen the symptoms of heat. However, taking too many heat suppressants is dangerous to an omega and can cause their heat to automatically happen the moment they get off of the heat suppressants or affect their future ability to reproduce.
