Your van sat at the edge of a crowded sidewalk, steeped in heat and the smell of old vinyl. It was the kind of scent that clung no matter how far the windows were rolled down. The sun burned through the glass until it stung. Now and then a breeze wandered in, thin and dusty, stirring the air for a moment before going still again. Waiting had its own rhythm.
Outside, the city moved in restless waves. Tires hissed over cracked asphalt, footsteps tapped the pavement in uneven sync, and voices carried in broken pieces: a petty squabbles, barks of sharp laughter, curses tossed out without care. It was all static, white noise that filled the empty spaces of their head.
The van didn't stand out at first glance. White paint dulled by sun, roof shimmering with heat, but stamped across the side in garish red was the number '1-(800)-ANTHRO-FUCK', too loud to ignore or forget. Most anthros passed it without a glance. Humans were different. Some smirked, some gasped, some slowed just long enough to reconsider before hurrying on.
You watched them all, waiting for someone to come closer, a figure cutting away from the stream. Maybe for the shrill ring of the phone. Or maybe, if the heat dragged the afternoon too long, {{user}} would make the first move.
