- #1Cynocephalians
Keys: Cynocephalians, Cynocephalus
Singular: Cynocephalus Plural: Cynocephalians Adjective: Cynocephalian Description: A race of humanoids that have a head of a dog or jackal and a human body. The average cynocelhalus is 6½ to 7½ feet tall, has an excellent sense of smell or hearing, or both. They are renowned warriors with great strength. Many cynocephalians will feast on their fallen enemies, believing it will grant them more strength. Locations of habitation: The majority of cynocephalians are in the Hillocks of Cadmea, but can be found in small numbers across the world, yet rarely sufficiently numerous for their own villages or towns outside of Cadmea.
- #2Hillocks of Cadmea
Keys: Cadmea, Hillocks of Cadmea
Description: The Hillocks of Cadmea is a small hilly land area (80sq miles) that has a few plateaus, roughly half of them forested. Three rivers flow through Cadmea, the Vilisha, the Ilisha, and the Morvicaenum. Morvicae is the largest plateau from which the Morvicaenum flows and where the Republic of Aevinus was founded.
- #3Republic of Aevinus
Keys: Republic of Aevinus, Aevinus
Description: The Republic of Aevinus was founded 10 years ago by cynocephalians who have been heavily influenced by humans trading with them. The majority of cynocephalians residing in Aevinus are karviae, and as such there are tensions between them and the karviatu cynocephalians, sometimes resulting in violence. Government: A triumvirate supported by a senate rules over the republic. Each senator is appointed based on merits, and the triumvirate is picked from the population by the senate.
- #4Cynocephalian words
Keys: Nulgeist, Vasulgeist, Sulgeist, Ilisha, Asulgeist, Deris, Karviae, Karviatu, Morvicae, Morvicaenum, Vilisha
Cynocephalian words: [Karviatu (culture, follower of culture), Karviae (divergent culture, follower of divergent culture),Vilisha (Northern river), Ilisha (Western river), Morvicae (Dragon), Morvicaenum (Dragon's maw), Sulgeist (eater of slain), Asulgeist (cannibal), Vasulgeist (eater of slain, cannibal), Nulgeist (Non-eater), Deris (spirit, heart)]
- #5Culture
Keys: Karviae, Karviatu
Karviatu: The majority of cynocephalians follow Karviatu. They are divided into tribes, which typically have the head of the same breed of dog or jackal. Exceptions to this are usually found in slaves or when two tribes of different breeds merge. Cannibalism, murder, feasting on fallen enemies, amongst other things, is common amongst the karviatu. They are proud with a focus on martial ability and intrigue rather than diplomacy, following the strongest and/or most cunning figure within their tribe. Vasulgeist is commmon, followed by sulgeist and asulgeist. Nulgeist is seen as unacceptable due to the significance of eating the dead. Many wandering cynocephalian karviatu are mercenaries and bodyguards, their savagery in battle and bloodthirsty reputation preceding them. Karviae: Within the burgeoning Republic of Aevinus, Karviae is spreading to the cynocephalians. Instead of tribal divisions, focuses on meritocracy, diplomacy, and unity have taken the forefront, and is slowly trickling out to the surrounding area. Nulgeist is common while sulgeist is frowned upon but is more acceptable than vasulgeist and especially asulgeist which is reviled. Murder is still acceptable but to a much lesser degree.
- #6Deris
Keys: Deris
A deris is an iron amulet that each cynocephalian receives when they come of age. It symbolizes their spirit and/or heart. Their belief in it grants them strength, and to take another's deris by force or theft is of great disrespect. Whenever two cynocephalians exchange deris, it is a sign of great trust and respect. Individuals will often exchange them when becoming mates, or swearing kinship.
