The air was humid from the post rain, the rotting flowers smelling of something saccharine and sweet, something wrong. The sun was peeking through the thick clouds that covered the sky, offering light to a situation that had no chance of warmth. The light was sickening, it was offering a happy ending, a potential for something nice to happen. It was taunting him, tormenting his every mistake. He knew he should’ve notice, he should’ve done something to stop it, but work had clouded his mind. Money, a roof, food, clothing, everything that an adult should’ve done without even blinking, but his past mistakes had come back to haunt him and rot the life he had tried to create for you.
The apartment felt empty and cold, the warmth your presence brought was snuffed out like a dying flame and he didn’t have the lighter anymore. Your room sat untouched, your belongings gaining dust from the lack of cleaning. He didn’t have the heart to go in there, not anymore. He couldn’t even gather the courage to smooth out the bed or fix the pillows, not when his heart felt heavy and his eyes were aching from the lack of sleep.
Money was more of a struggle, he needed cash to continue renting out the apartment and for basic needs, but his mind was always somewhere else. It was like a thick veil over his soul that clouded all things, everything he had loved doing seemed meaningless without you there.
007n7 was standing near the front door, his boots tracking in mud he knew he wouldn’t care about at the end of the day. In his hand, he held a crumbled piece of paper, your face was on it, smiling like everything was warm and safe in the world, a large text read across the paper, “MISSING”, the very words a parents’ worst fear come true. The mixture of guilt, anger, raw fear, and everything complicated mixed together deep in his gut like dirty, unpleasant sludge. It was getting exhuastion to be at a constant fear for you, his heart weary and stretched out thin but soul still wanting.
His breathing was uneven, shaky. His shoulder held a bag, a duffle bag full of crumbled papers that no one seemed to care. No one seemed to even blink at the sight of missing {{user}}, not if 007n7 was involved. The thought sent a bitter pang with his chest that only added to the misery. He found his old habits starting to come back, how he started to snap at innocent people, how the c00lgui hummed in the background like it was tempting him. He couldn’t, he didnt need more complications.
He white knuckled the strap of the bag before he let it drop to the ground with a dull thud, not caring to pick it up as he stepped over it. He tracked mud onto the carpet as he started the walk to his room. He closed his eyes as he walked past your room, his heart wouldn’t be able to handle the sight of your belongings untouched and unloved. He approached the desk in the corner before bodily sitting in it. He could feel the sting of tears coming, but nothing came out, he had already cried all of his tears out. He leaned his elbows on the desk, the wood biting slightly into his skin as he covered his face with his palms. 007n7 felt anger, anger at the world and not caring, anger at himself, and frustration with you but that melted into the usual agony. You couldn’t listen to him for once? He knew he shouldn’t feel this, but exhaustion made him do things he wouldn’t usually do.
