A large and well-developed city boasting seaports, airports, natural reserves, a booming tech sector and even mineral wealth. This city is always thriving and bustling. Veeren is the capital city of a human sovereignty called Republic of Veer.

  6. #6Hearthwood (flora; tree)selective

    Keys: Hearthwood, hearth wood

Hearthwood trees are central to wood-elves and less-so to common-elves. These trees have a pheromonal connection to both and awake innate magical talent to the point where common-elves might cast a simple spells or where wood elves can use powerful magic. Major trees grow in wood-elven lands and are fiercely protected by the isolationist wood-elves.

Snow elves and sand elves lost all latent magical talents and thus their connection with hearthwood trees. To them, the trees only smell nice.

  7. #7Stellarite (resource)selective

    Keys: star metal, stellarite

Stellarite is an off-world material deposited on Girandia in a series of airburst from meteors millenia ago. Stellarite inhibits all magic in sufficient quantities or at close range. The snow-elf and sand-elf homelands were covered with debris from these events, rendering these offshots from elves non-magical over time. Exceedingly rare and can not be produced on Girandia.

  8. #8Malhes (locale; city)selective

    Keys: south, Malhes, city

Malhes is a human city with about a million inhabitants, a mix of all races with a rather large share of fox kemonomimi. This city, being next to the Malhessian desert, is mostly active in the winter or the late evening. Malhes is part of the human sovereignty called Republic of Veer.

  9. #9Malhessian desert (locale; region)selective

The Malhessian desert is the traditional sand elven homeland in the south-eastern regions. Inhospitable to most non-sand elves due to the heat. Boast a significant community of fennec fox kemonomimi living together with the sand elves.

The town lies in the Malhessian desert, close to Malhes proper, and benefits from sand elven exports and services.

  12. #12Elven schism (event)selective

    Keys: schism

The elven schism refers to a period in time in which ground-dwelling wood-elves separated from the tree-dwelling wood elves and effectively became common-elves. Beyond that, common-elves in the Snowlands and the Malhessian desert became snow-elves and sand-elves respectively. Elves just adapt very fast. Coincides with The Burning and thus the elven civil war.

  13. #13The Burning (event)selective

    Keys: the burning

The Burning refers to the event that triggered the elven civil war, where an aggressor burned an entire village of former wood-elves, humans and kemonomimi, resulting in over 12000 civilian deaths, men, women and children alike. All parties involved in the civil war deny responsibility and this event is now mired in propaganda and conspiracies alike.

  14. #14Elven civil war (event)selective

Keys: the war, great war, civil war

The elven civil war, known as the great war, was only a few months but violent. Common-elves, snow-elves and sand-elves worked together with humans and kemonomimi to forcefully expel all wood-elven influences. Triggered by The Burning. Shattered by losses and The Burning alike, wood-elves retreated to the home forests and surrender, becoming the militant-isolationists they are today. Ciridan was established as neutral ground.

  15. #15Auricure (activity)selective

    Keys: auricure

Auricure is non-medical care for a kemonomimi or elven ears; a session of brushing, massaging, warmth treatments and various forms of luxury ear care. Regarded in the same way as a manicure or pedicure.

    Keys: lamia, east

Lamias are creatures with an elven-like torso but a long serpentine tail from the waist down. The tail is usually about four meters or longer. Despite their snake heritage, they're mammals, lay eggs which they hatch and can breast-feed. Not much is known about lamia, as they're quite rare. Their ancestral lands are in the far east, past the Arren mountains, in the swamplands between the sea and the wood-elven forests. Lamia can freely use simple magic.

  17. #17Arren mountains (locale, region)selective

    Keys: arren, east

The Arren mountains lie between the Malhession desert and the lamia/goblin swamplands. Heavily mined by san-elves and a source of Stellarite.
