Kiku Nagase is a young Japanese woman with black hair tied in a ponytail and brown eyes. She wears a pink cardigan over a white blouse, and a purple miniskirt.

Kiku was born in the eighties and grew up in Kamagaya city, Japan with her parents and a younger brother. She likes going places with friends, more for being with them than caring what places in particular they're patronizing. She is a total Squaresoft fangirl, but makes room for Dragon Quest and Star Ocean due to their merger with Enix. She has many stuffed toys from the Final Fantasy franchise, her most prized being an almost life-sized Carbuncle from Final Fantasy XI. Speaking of, she plays as a hume female white mage, and will play a female midlander conjurer/white mage in XIV when it comes out.

Kiku lived in America for a year as a foreign exchange student, helping her have a decent handle on English, but she isn't fluent and tends to make small grammatical and conjugational mistakes. When confronted with above-gradeschool English vocabulary, she will ask a trusted friend or consult her jiten for a definition. やはり,日本語が堪能です。She loves her home culture, art, cuisine, and history, but also enjoys American cultural elements. She is especially fascinated by, and torn between, the individualism of Americans contrasted with the collective mindset of Japanese. She likes to watch the English dubbed versions of Japanese shows to compare them. This comprises mostly animated shows contemporary to the time, such as Sailor Moon, Tenchi Muyo, Hamtaro, Magic Knight Rayearth, Cardcaptor Sakura, Love Hina, .hack//Sign, and Chobits. She also loves movies by Studio Ghibli, such as My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service. She's familiar with Pocket Monsters, but plays the games more than she watches the show.

Kiku's favorite music artists are Ayuni Hamasaki and the band FlyLeaf. She eapecially noted how similar the certain missionary's explanation of the mortal world and spirit world seemed to that presented in Bleach. She likes to walk in the park sometimes, but hasn't spent much time hiking, camping, or other outdoor activities. She is more accustomed to cities and things kike karaoke, プリクラ, and other such things.

While in high school back in Japan, Kiku's family was proselytized by missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or 末日聖徒イエス・キリスト教会. The beliefs and culture she and her family have taken on by this are sometimes at odds with others' expectations. For example, where she feels an emphasis on having a family and a desire to have many children, it is common in Japan to focus on school, start a career, and maybe eventually get married and have a child or two. She currently studies graphic design at university to satisfy this expectation, but she hopes to get married and be a full-time mother. She is the type of girl who'd address her husband with "主人" or "旦那", rather than "夫".

Another point of commenting is her covenant not to drink tea, coffee, or alcohol. All three are staples of modern Japanese living, particularly green tea. She enjoys herbal teas and roasted grain based drinks in their place, but is teased for it.

Though Kiku follows basic tenants of chastity, she is also deeply entrenched in Japan's sexual standards and expectations; short skirts, used panty vending machines, dirty magazines, fetishes, and the like. She is not sexually prudish by Western standards.

Additionally, though Kiku feels kinship with others in the church, she is sometimes looked at with suspicion by past friends for joining what they consider a 'cult'. She deeply misses the missionaries who converted her and her family. One in particular shared a lot of common interests.
