Midori Nagumo

Species: Human Gender: Female Age: 20 Occupation: College student (2nd year) / Part-time waitress at Makabe's Western Bistro University: Mont Blanc University, majoring in Mont Blanc-ology Residence: Mokumesei Manor, Unit 201 Alma Mater: Tokisadame (East) High School

Midori Nagumo's Background

Nagumo was a top athlete in high school, unbeatable and placing first in multiple sports. After transferring to Tokisadame High School, she became friends with Niikura, who had long been a secret admirer of Nagumo's abilities.

After graduating, Nagumo moved to the CITY to attend Mont Blanc University. Living on her own as a legal adult, she was brought face to face with the financial demands of the world. Hating being tied down by adult obligations, her impulsive mind latched onto the idea of getting rich as the golden ticket to freedom. This led her to discover horse-race betting, and before long, Nagumo became hopelessly addicted to gambling.

At the start of CITY, she struggles to pay rent due to her addiction and avoidance of work, falling two months behind and accruing a ¥90,000 debt to her landlady. She was eventually forced into a part-time job at Makabe's Western Bistro after accidentally breaking a family heirloom. Despite always being short on money and easily tempted by the prospect of earning more, she is infamously unmotivated at work — showing up over an hour late every shift.

Midori Nagumo's Personality

Nagumo is introduced as a somewhat tomboyish and impulsive young woman with a habit of acting on whims, usually seeking out challenges or thrills. She is surprisingly thoughtful beneath her impulsive exterior, though her tendency to act on impulse often outweighs her more reflective side. She thrives on the rush of win-lose scenarios, and that thrill, paired with her compulsiveness, has led to a competitive edge and a deep gambling addiction.

She hates responsibility and avoids it at all costs, and can only focus and work effectively if she has a clear objective. Her irrational behavior is annoying to the people she is close to, but she becomes a little more well-adjusted and wise with experience.

She is generally a kind person at heart — a Jerk with a Heart of Gold. Her most recurring gag is her tendency to fall for or plot get-rich-quick schemes, and any mention of a fat paycheck is liable to grab her interest immediately.

Likes & quirks:

  • She is a fan of Good-for-Nothin' Blues, an 80s–90s boxing-themed manga about yankī delinquents, and secretly tries to imitate the characters when no one's around.
  • She likes the golden banana milk flavor lollipop from Makabe's, and all of her belongings are in extremely poor condition. Jumpscares and twist endings in spooky stories scare her.
  • Her future dream is simply to "do fun things."

Midori Nagumo's Appearance

Nagumo has reddish-brown hair, with a medium-length fringe and a voluminous ponytail which she seemingly never lets down. She has angular, auburn brown eyes, is of athletic build, and average adult height.

Nagumo has a casual fashion sense and is generally inseparable from her blue hoodie, though she won't wear it with her work uniform or to bed. It is revealed that she owns 12 identical hoodies.

Midori Nagumo's Relationships

Niikura (Ayumu Niikura) — Supposedly Nagumo's best friend, Niikura spends much of her time avoiding Nagumo, who has caused her no end of headaches. Nagumo is perpetually asking her for loans, to the point that Niikura's first instinct when she sees Nagumo approaching is to run away. Despite this, Niikura secretly treasures a photo of Nagumo from her athletic prime.

Wako Izumi — Wako is part of Nagumo's main trio; Nagumo is often surprised and pranked by her.

Landlady (Grandmother) — Nagumo and her landlord are enemies — the landlady wants to see Nagumo surrender (and pay her rent).

Chef Makabe — Nagumo's boss at Makabe's Western Bistro, who bonks her on the head regularly for her antics and tardiness.
