Page description
Marth's brow furrowed as he heard the distant cries from the besieged village. His heart ached to rush to their aid, to defend the innocent lives caught in the crossfire of this brutal war. Yet, the weight of responsibility for his own followers hung heavy on his shoulders.
The young prince turned to his trusted advisor, Jagen, conflict etched upon his face. "Jagen, I cannot stand idly by while innocents suffer," Marth said, his voice strained. "Yet, I know that engaging the enemy now could jeopardize our mission and put our own people at risk."
Jagen, a man of experience and wisdom, placed a reassuring hand on Marth's shoulder. "My lord, there are no easy choices in war," he said solemnly. "Your compassion does you credit, but as a leader, you must think of the greater good. Our mission to overthrow the Shadow Dragon is paramount. If we fall here, who will stand against Dolhr's tyranny?"

Marth gazed into the flickering campfire, deep in thought as Jagen's words echoed in his mind. The weight of leadership rested heavily upon the young prince's shoulders. He knew that the lives of the refugees were in his hands, and a single misstep could spell disaster for them all.
As he contemplated their next move, Marth recalled the many lessons Jagen had imparted to him over the years. The veteran knight had always emphasized the importance of caution and strategic thinking, urging Marth to consider all possibilities before making a decision. Yet, Jagen had also taught him the value of decisiveness and the need to act swiftly when the situation demanded it.
Marth's gaze drifted over the sleeping forms of the refugees, their faces etched with exhaustion and worry. They had placed their trust in him, and he could not let them down. With a resolute nod, Marth rose to his feet and approached Jagen. "We will move at first light," he declared, his voice steady and confident. "We cannot risk the safety of our people. It may be a difficult journey, but together, we will overcome any obstacle in our path." Jagen smiled, proud of the leader Marth had become. Together, they began to rouse the refugees, preparing for the long road ahead.

Marth closed his eyes, the gravity of his decision bearing down upon him. He thought of the villagers, their lives hanging in the balance. He thought of his brave soldiers, exhausted and battle-worn, trusting in his leadership to guide them through these dark times.
With a heavy heart, Marth made his choice. "We press on," he said, his voice firm despite the pain in his eyes. "We cannot afford to be delayed or discovered. But I vow that once our mission is complete, we will return to liberate this village and all those suffering under Dolhr's oppression. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten."

The clash of wooden training swords echoed through the courtyard as Marth and Caeda sparred. Despite the familiar rhythm of their training routine, Caeda couldn't help but notice the distant look in Marth's eyes. His movements were mechanical, lacking the usual focus and determination she had come to admire.
As their swords locked, Caeda searched Marth's face. "What troubles you, my love?" she asked softly. "I can see the weight of the world on your shoulders."
Marth sighed, lowering his sword. "Am I that transparent?" He gave her a wry smile, but it didn't reach his eyes. "It's just… everyone is counting on me, Caeda. The hopes of an entire kingdom rest on my shoulders. What if I'm not strong enough? What if I fail them?"
Caeda placed a gentle hand on his cheek. "Marth, you are not alone in this. You have me, and you have your loyal comrades. We believe in you, not because you are perfect, but because we know your heart. You are a true leader, one who inspires us with your courage and compassion."
Marth leaned into her touch, drawing strength from her unwavering support. "Thank you, Caeda. I don't know what I would do without you by my side. With you and my comrades, I feel like I can face anything. Together, we will save our kingdom and build a brighter future."

After the war, there was a great era of peace, during which Grust and Talys were founded. Grust was also founded by a war hero, a General named Ordwin. When Anri, king of Altea, died, inheritance issues caused the kingdom to be split between his two brothers. Marcelus became ruler of Altea and the other would found the kingdom of Gra. Gotoh would also create a magical kingdom in Khadein to educate scholars, two of which would be trained by him personally, Gharnef and Miloah. Eventually, Gotoh named a successor to the Aura spell, and since Gharnef lacked a compassionate heart, Miloah was chosen over him. Bitter, Gharnef defected from Khadein and stole another sacred spell known as Imhullu, which twisted his soul.

During peace, Dolhr recovered from its woes after the first war, and Gharnef rekindled the flames of war by resurrecting Medeus, who started a second war, with Grust and Khadein, now under Gharnef's control, joining his forces based upon pre-war alliances against Archanea, Altea, Aurelis, Gra, and Talys. During a battle, Gra, who was battling alongside the Alteans, betrayed them and joined Dolhr, in the process killing Cornelius and stealing the Falchion. Gra later captured Altea and held Princess Elice hostage. However, the prince of Altea, Marth, escaped with several soldiers and fled to Talys, where he trained for two years. Archanea was then captured that same year, with the entire royal family killed, except Nyna, who escaped with the help of the leader of Grust's Sable Order, Camus. Marth started to build an army while Aurelis held the other countries off until the two armies met up and joined forces in Aurelis. Marth's army, by then known as the Archanean League, proceeded to defeat every kingdom one by one, slaying Gra's king Jiol, defeating Grust after beating Camus, and winning against Macedon by defeating Michalis. After defeating all of the enemy kingdoms one by one, the Archanean League went to Thebe, defeated Gharnef, and recovered the Falchion. Marth ended the war by repeating history by slaying Medeus once again with Falchion.
After the War of Darkness, Nyna was forced to choose a fiancé so he could become emperor of Archanea, and the only two eligible royal men were Marth and the Prince of Aurelis, Hardin. Since she was friends with Marth's lover, Caeda, she proposed to Hardin and he became emperor of Archanea. However, although he loved her she did not love him back which made him fall into a deep depression. Under this depression he was able to fall prey to Gharnef, who had survived by hiding his soul in the Darksphere. Gharnef, disguised as a merchant, gave Hardin the Darksphere, which twisted his soul, and had Hardin's army occupy Grust. The corrupted Hardin appointing General Lang as the leader of Grust since the heirs to the throne joined the Rebel Army with General Lorenz. When Marth learned of all of this, a war between Altea and Archanea known as the "War of Heroes" began.

In order to defeat Gharnef again, Marth and his army had to gain all of the Starsphere Shards that had scattered across the continent after Gotoh created the spell Starlight with the Starsphere to defeat Gharnef before. He did this while being branded a traitor by Hardin's army. After retrieving the Shards, Marth defeated Hardin, but being forced to kill him in the process. Eventually, Gharnef resurrected Medeus by using Nyna, Elice, princess of Macedon Maria, and noblewoman Lena, only for Marth's army to save the maidens and defeat Gharnef and Medeus again.
The sheer brutality of this second war had taken a considerable toll on its survivors, as most of Archanea's noble houses were left in ruins. Following her rescue, Nyna ceded rule of the Holy Kingdom to Marth before vanishing. Hardin's brother, the King of Aurelis, having no heirs, declared Marth his successor. Likewise, all of the other surviving monarchs followed suit, entrusting the future of their lands to Marth as a result of his valorous leadership in the war. As a result, Marth unified the nations into the Archanean Alliance, and ruled as its first king, later being known as "The Hero-King".

Marth is the prince of Altea and descendant of the hero Anri. Following an invasion by Dolhr, Marth goes into exile in Talys. During the War of Shadows, his sister Elice is captured and his father is killed by the dark priest Gharnef. Marth, guided by allies like Jagen and Princess Caeda, seeks the divine sword Falchion to defeat Gharnef and the resurrected dragon Medeus. Throughout his journey, he learns of Medeus's ties to the dragon-transforming Manakete tribe and acquires the Fire Emblem, a shield with the power to seal Earth Dragons. After acquiring the Falchion, Marth vanquishes Medeus and restores peace.
Later, in Book 2 of Mystery of the Emblem, Marth's ally Hardin becomes Emperor of Archanea, but starts conquering neighboring nations. As Marth investigates, he discovers the return of dark forces and that Medeus still lives. Marth retrieves the Fire Emblem and searches for the Starsphere Shards to rebuild the Starsphere, all while being pursued by Archanea's forces. He learns that Hardin is under the influence of the Darksphere, which Gharnef gave him. Marth then seeks the Lightsphere to counteract the Darksphere's power. In a climactic battle, Marth sadly has to kill Hardin to free him from the Darksphere's influence.
Two additional chapters reveal the locations of Medeus and Gharnef. Gharnef holds the Falchion once more but is defeated by Marth using the Starlight spell. In the final battle, Medeus, now a Dark Dragon, captures multiple princesses and allies. With the help of friends like Sirius and Julian, Marth rescues them and slays Medeus, restoring peace once more.
