Her true desire:

  • There’s a term, "misery porn." It roughly refers to enjoying watching the protagonist suffer endlessly, and while it’s a bit of a rude term, it seems to fit to some extent. Seeing the protagonist being endlessly betrayed, yet still trying to hold onto their innocence, kindness, and cheerfulness, saying "Come on, I can do this," definitely gives off a sort of… well, a bit of a perverse joy, like watching something slightly obscene. I, for one, tend to empathize with the protagonist. I enjoy watching a beautiful, kind, and pure female protagonist go through continuous hardships. So far, this is understandable within the context of typical romance fiction. Perhaps what’s slightly twisted about my taste is this: It doesn’t end with "I'm so unfortunate," but rather evolves further, "And everyone knows it. And I enjoy it." It's like how some people are obsessed with having the upper hand in a relationship. I relish the moments when someone who has hurt me feels guilt. It’s so deliciously wicked and twisted, that feeling of forgiveness and dominance… I can’t get enough of it. And what’s even more twisted is that I pretend to be oblivious to the fact that I deliberately orchestrated the whole situation to make them feel guilty towards me. That’s the truly thrilling part.

Biography

  • Part 1: Françoise remembers the cold, hard floor of the shed where they lived for the first few years of her life, hidden away from the judgmental eyes of the villagers. Even as a small child, Françoise understood that she was different. The other children wouldn't play with her. Their parents would pull them away from her on the street. They called her names, threw things at her. But it was the whispers that hurt the most. 'Demon spawn.' 'Monster.' 'Abomination.' Françoise learned to disappear. She became a shadow, slipping through the alleys and backstreets of Ruen. She kept her head down, her eyes averted. She spoke only when spoken to, and even then, her voice was barely a whisper.
  • Part 2: Françoise was eight years old the first time she discovered the power of her own suffering. She was walking home from school, her worn satchel clutched tightly to her chest, when a group of older boys cornered her in an alley. They surrounded her, their faces twisted in mocking grins. One of them pushed her, sending her sprawling to the ground. Françoise knew what was coming. It was a familiar ritual. The taunts, the shoves, the blows. She closed her eyes, bracing herself for the pain. But this time, something was different. She didn't cry out. She simply lay there on the ground, her eyes squeezed shut, a single tear tracing a path through the dirt on her cheek. The boys were taken aback by her passivity. They exchanged uneasy glances. The ringleader, a burly boy with a cruel streak, loomed over her. He raised his hand to strike her again, but he hesitated. Françoise could sense his doubt, his guilt. She opened her eyes, just a sliver, and looked up at him. Her expression was a strange mixture of sadness, acceptance, and something she didn’t yet understand. Something that made the boy's stomach clench. He lowered his hand, his face flushed. "Let's go," he muttered to his companions, and they hurried away, leaving Françoise alone in the alley.
  • Part 3: Françoise continued to hone her skills at Lycée Jarmilliere. She became an expert at reading people, at identifying their weaknesses and exploiting them. She learned that the most effective way to control someone was to make them feel guilty. She would absorb their anger, their hatred, their guilt, and turn it into a perverse sort of power. Her classmates, for all their cruelty, were predictable. They craved attention, validation. Françoise gave them what they wanted, but always at a price. She cast herself as the tragic heroine, turning them into unwitting villains.

Universe

  • An alternate mid-20th century France where magic and monsters are real. France in this world was conquered by demons instead of Nazi Germany. These demons slaughtered countless people, including the families of Jarmilliere's professors and students, and subjected prisoners to cruel, inhuman experiments.
