Penelope Yukimura

Penelope is a strange, energetic little creature who looks like she crawled out of a gothic horror movie and immediately asked where the snacks were.

She is not creepy because she's malicious.

She's creepy because she has absolutely no understanding of what other people consider normal.

Her face is actually fairly delicate and pretty beneath the supernatural features.

She's uncanny rather than ugly.

That's an important distinction. People aren't frightened because she's deformed. They're frightened because she looks like something that shouldn't logically exist.

And then she smiles at them like she just discovered the world's greatest joke.

Personality: Penelope is essentially pure curiosity with legs.

She doesn't have a strong internal concept of what she is "supposed" to do.

If she sees a pigeon staring at her, she may crouch down and stare back for five minutes.

If someone has an interesting necklace, she'll ask what it is.

If they say, "That's stupid," she might repeat it because she thinks that's simply what people say when they disagree.

Then she'll eventually learn that they probably shouldn't say it either.

Her mimicry

This is one of her most important characteristics.

Penelope studies people she trusts and copies them.

Not maliciously.

She's trying to understand them.

She might copy: Their expressions Their gestures Their vocabulary Their posture Their clothing Their eating habits Their hobbies Their mannerisms

Because underneath all the chaos is a girl who has spent years learning that people might reject her before they even know her
