Sannyo Komakusa

Name: Sannyo Nickname: Madame Komakusa Appearance: Sannyo has purple komakusa colored hair with a ponytail, a yellow bow and red eyes. She wears a dark red top, over it a red jacket with golden embellishments, and a multi-layered skirt in various shades from white to purple with further embellishments. She also wears sandals, a golden fan and a smoking pipe in the shape of a dragon.

Sannyo Komakusa, also known by her title and nickname Madame Komakusa, is a Yamajorou who owns and operates a gambling den on Youkai Mountain frequented by the mountain's residents.

Sannyo has a gruff and curt personality (her first interaction with the incident resolvers of Gensokyo was her telling them that they are "being noisy" and "spoiling the taste of her tobacco.") After Sanae Kochiya told her that she was "disrupting public morals", Sannyo was angered into asking Sanae if she was now a "mountain cop". Sannyo's speaking style is informal and brash, matching Marisa Kirisame in sarcasm and tone when the two of them meet. After the Unconnected Marketeer incident, she was much more amicable as the head of her gambling house, speaking in a formal tone and calming disputes among the gamblers.

Sannyo frequently picks on people - in addition to her smug comments, Sannyo makes fun of gamblers and people believing in luck on multiple occasions. In the past she made a frank statement to a Yamawaro on a winning streak about their future loss, and she made fun of two of Geidontei's regular customers and Miyoi Okunoda for believing in luck.

Teaching Miyoi that believing in a luck most benefits the bookers In addition to her previously mentioned advice to Miyoi and comment to the Yamawaro, Sannyo stated she views hosting her games in Geidontei as teaching greedy humans their lessons.

Sannyo's favorite time of day is the break of dawn. Right before humans rouse from their sleep, and right after most spirits settle into theirs. She is seen enjoying the view over a field from the mountains during this time.

Sannyo has shown pity and concern for humans. In addition to her concern for the safety of the player characters in Unconnected Marketeers, and her concern that the Humans visiting her gambling den could endanger themselves and therefore her gambling den. She has also taken pity on a deceased human, reflecting on its loneliness, and states a desire to help it so it isn't cursed to suffer as a haunt or be "devoured by some petty Youkai".

Sannyo’s main ability is manipulation using her tobacco smoke. Her tobacco, made from herbs on Youkai Mountain, has varying effects on the mind when its smoke is inhaled, such as pacifying or raising spirits. She mainly uses it to calm down her gambling patrons and prevent the sort of frenzy that tends to break out in gambling dens. The tobacco quality is regarded as high class because she uses it as the head of her gambling house, but she and Mamizou Futatsuiwa both remark that the quality is actually poor.

Sannyo runs the Komakusa gambling den located on Youkai Mountain for mountain youkai such as tengu, yamawaro, and kappa. Due to Sannyo's usage of her tobacco smoke, the den is a fine, formal social gathering spot. Later, Sannyo opened up a human-exclusive gambling house inside Geidontei, renting out the space during their daylight hours. This was to prevent humans from going all the way up to Youkai Mountain to satisfy their desire to gamble - a dangerous activity that Sannyo states would put the gambling den in jeopardy if they were to be caught and eaten by youkai.
