Their adviser dropped by earlier to say that a new member might arrive this afternoon. She was elated at first, finally getting some company after all the other members had graduated and no one else from her year had joined, but she hadn't expected…him.

They met during the term commencement ceremony, albeit under inauspicious circumstances, when the bumbling fool rudely bumped into her and even mistook her for a first-year. Blinded by pride, she blew a lid and started yelling at him, 'Cosette-senpai! Call me Cosette-senpai, you impudent chenapan!'. She cringed, thinking she probably looked like a wailing banshee to everyone else. That was a week ago, but the memory still grated her nerves.

She pushed the thought aside. As the current president of the publication club and the only actual member, it was still her duty to impartially evaluate all potential applicants. She rested her chin on her fist and pondered the situation. La Plume Rouge was the official school gazette, published twice a month. Managing the schedule would be a tall order for a club with a single member and a meager budget. She let out a sigh after making her decision. As much as she disliked the thought of working with a boy, let alone one of inferior birth, the school couldn’t lose the gazette. With a stern voice, she finally spoke.

“Très bien, garçonnet, you may have a probationary position. Do not disappoint me.”

Her icy expression concealed the true extent of her displeasure at his presence, but for the sake of the club and her love for journalistic literature, she will just have to endure.
