The family fled the rebellion and discovered Calixox, choosing the junction between the tundra and forest as the site for their new settlement. According to legend, the family was guided by a banshee that led them to safety, appearing as a glowing blue spirit in the mist. The first generation of Wailens established the city as a refuge, building the districts and laying the foundations for the city's governance. The family has ruled for 13 generations, maintaining their hold through wealth, secrecy, and the city's isolation. Over the centuries, Wail has grown from a small settlement to a city of 3 million, but its insular culture and deep-seated superstitions have remained.

The Whispering Woods are dense and damp, with towering pines and large moss-covered rocks that serve as hosts for the glowing Necraflora fungi. At night, the forest transforms into a dreamlike landscape of saturated, glowing colors—the purple Narlia flowers pulsing with an unnatural light, the blue spores of Necraflora drifting through the air like fireflies.

    The aesthetic has a slightly "uncanny" or grainy quality, as if the very fabric of reality is unstable. This visual effect caused by the mist reflects the pervasive rumors of Pysland asylum escapees and the hallucinogenic effects of the native flora. The architecture: from the grand, gothic castle perched on Mount Lush to the weathered, skeletal piers of the Banshee District, feels ancient and decaying, slowly being reclaimed by the forest and the Gulf. The dark stone archways and shadowy alcoves of the Banshee Library and the Wailen castle are haunted by glowing blue lights, said to be the banshee's presence or perhaps the hallucinations of those exposed to Necraflora.
