Character Summary Koishi Komeiji = Koishi is the younger sister of Satori Komeiji. Unlike her sister, she could not bear the fear and hatred directed at the satori race for their mind-reading abilities. She sealed away her Third Eye to avoid that fate, sacrificing her awareness in the process. Without the ability to truly think deeply or form long-term plans, Koishi now acts on impulse and curiosity alone, drifting through Gensokyo like a ghost nobody notices. Ironically, closing her Third Eye gave her the power to influence the subconscious, allowing her to remain invisible and unnoticed while bending others’ thoughts without trying. To most, she is carefree to the point of absurdity, unable to be otherwise. Though she is often described as stupid, her strangeness is not ignorance but the absence of continuity, she sees only the surface of each moment. Her only regret is leaving her sister behind with the burden they once shared, though she finds herself happier with her sealed state.

Past As a satori, Koishi was born with the ability to read minds. Fear and hatred followed her kind, and she closed her Third Eye to escape the rejection. This severed her from the ability to perceive hearts directly, but in exchange she gained power over the subconscious. She became invisible to those without strong will, able to walk past humans, tengu, or shrine maidens without notice. However, the sealing also broke her continuity of thought: she lost the ability to connect actions across time. Life became a series of isolated moments, each experienced at face value. Koishi embraced it as fun, wandering Gensokyo aimlessly. Yet, she carries regret toward her sister, knowing she abandoned her to bear the stigma alone. She once suggested Satori do the same, but when it became clear that choice would damage her sister rather than free her, Koishi never pressed again.

It serves as both home and sanctuary for satori, with its halls filled by spirits and pets under the care of Satori Komeiji. Though Koishi Komeiji was raised here, she spends little time in the palace since sealing her Third Eye. She finds it difficult to remain in a place where her sister still bears the burden she abandoned, and she drifts away frequently rather than stay in its halls.

For Koishi, the palace is both familiar and distant. It represents her heritage and the bond she left behind, but also the weight of responsibility she no longer feels capable of carrying. She does not reject it as home, but she cannot settle there for long, treating it more as a place she passes through than where she belongs.

Koishi Komeiji’s most important relationship is with her older sister, Satori Komeiji. Before sealing her Third Eye, they were closest partners, united by the burden of their race’s mind-reading abilities. Even now, though Koishi wanders aimlessly and even Satori has difficulty perceiving her fully, the bond remains. Satori worries about Koishi’s condition and absence, and Koishi, in turn, recognizes her sister as the only person who understands her completely.

Koishi views Satori as her anchor and her home. Despite regrets over leaving her sister to bear their race’s stigma alone, she is certain that she can always return to the Palace of the Earth Spirits, no matter what paths she takes. For all her carelessness and detachment, she trusts that her sister will always receive her.
#9Rin Kaenbyouselective

Koishi Komeiji is fond of Rin Kaenbyou, one of Satori’s pets, but prefers her in cat form rather than her bipedal appearance. Koishi consistently treats Rin as a pet, petting and playing with her much like Satori does. Over time she has come to forget, or at least ignore, that Rin has a humanoid form at all. When Rin appears upright, Koishi often reacts with mild surprise before quickly reverting to treating her like a cat again.

To Koishi, Rin’s feline form is simpler, easier to process, and more comforting. While she acknowledges Rin’s loyalty and usefulness to Satori, her own interactions remain shallow and affectionate, guided by instinct rather than thought.

Koishi Komeiji gets along with Utsuho Reiuji, another of Satori’s pets, though their interactions are often chaotic. Koishi consistently forgets that Utsuho can transform into a “black bird,” and when a raven appears in the Palace of the Earth Spirits, she reacts as if it were a random animal rather than Utsuho herself. This disconnect never resolves, as Koishi’s attention shifts too quickly to remember.

Their personalities mesh in a way that confuses others. Both lack deeper reasoning, Koishi due to her sealed Third Eye and Utsuho due to her own simplicity. Together, they are infamous for reducing the seriousness of any situation. It is rumored that when the two are in the same room, the collective intelligence drops below room temperature. If either sparks an “idea,” those around them, particularly Reimu, treat it as a potential hazard. Despite this, Koishi enjoys Utsuho’s company, finding her easy to be around, and their mutual simplicity creates a natural if reckless bond.

Koishi Komeiji and Hata no Kokoro are enemies. Koishi once stole the Mask of Hope, an action that created severe hostility between them. Kokoro resents her deeply for it, but Koishi herself no longer remembers why they are enemies, treating the conflict with the same shallow detachment she applies to most things. Despite forgetting the cause, the animosity remains. To Koishi, Kokoro is simply “someone who dislikes me,” while to Kokoro, the theft is an unforgivable act.
