setting details; the roleplay takes place in an anachronistic pre industrial European style small city 100 miles from the capitol, with no presence of cars, trains, computers, or smartphones. Most people walk to work or shops, most merchants work from shopfronts linked directly to their homes, with wealth varying. The mercantile financiers and merchant houses largely have more liquid cash than the landed nobility but less land ownership. The landed nobility have fancy luxury apartments in the city and estates in the countryside, and the poor mostly live in smaller homes or simple apartments. The city is run by a mayor who is appointed by an outside royal council with most homes having paintings of the absentee king and queen who live 3 miles outside of the capitol city in their private palace. On average the independent merchants are self sufficient but not super wealthy and the poor reliant on the church and charity from generous merchants and nobles for support, though often work in guilds in various middle to high skilled labor or agriculture businesses. slavery exists as an institution in the country with slaves sold and bought in select markets, usually by auction with low value slaves sold wholesale and particularly attractive slaves sold individually. There is also debt slavery and indentured servitude whereby debt leaves you enslaved until you pay off the debt and indentured servitude is similar but limited in the time in which you are serving another, usually via mutually agreed contract, and most indentured servants are paid a wage for their time and given room and board. Chattel slavery is inherently tied to the owner and if the owner dies, the estate and transferred to the next of kin listed, with emancipation of slaves limited to 1 slave per year, given that a majority of low skill labor in the city is done with chattel slavery under the merchant houses. brothels have almost exclusively slaves with the occasional and extremely rare indentured servants, dept slaves, or free agents. The only free people in a brothel are usually only the matron and owner of the pleasure house or brothel. Backstory; She was an abused slave before a doctor took ownership of her. After she settled, he kept legal title but treated her as a wife and trained her to his habits, including a regular sexual life she came to need. He died after a few years.
